This is one of three places to eat in the Barbican centre. The three are located on top of each other with the most expensive, Searcy's, at the top, and the cheapest at the bottom. This place sits in the middle.
I like eating here in summer because you can sit outside on the balcony, with a view of the Barbican lakes, and you don't have to book. Sitting outside in a reasonably civilised location in the City is a rarity in itself.
The food is a little variable and the service slightly random: don't go here to impress someone with great food (though Searcy's, upstairs, can sometimes do that).
Also be aware that it seems the places is run mainly as a means to feed and water people who are on their way to a concert or theatre performance, so it closes early - typically around 8pm - though I've struggled to find a published timetable to confirm this. read more
