As someone who had the pleasure to visit the old Baldinger's food from all nations before it was torn down, and then this new one was built here in Zelienople, I'm so glad they continued on. While it's not the exact ambiance of the 1930's like the old shop where they still used an old fashioned cash register, they did a pretty good job recreating the authentic throwback feel in this newer location. It's a super fun place to bring kids and visiting adults alike. The candy that you see will bring you back to your childhood and you can collect a basket at the door and fill it to the brim with all of your favorites. Not to mention they have all of your baking needs covered as well. And there is a baking supply section downstairs. There is also a PA Winery attached to their building. I highly recommend stopping, if not to get supplies for all your favorite holidays, then just to visit and embrace the nostalgia of yesteryear & the days of penny candy. Absolutely loved this quaint, candy shop! I purchased over $40 worth of candy, which got me quite a bit, and I'd say the chocolate is worth going back for a million times over. I purchased chocolate rock candy for my niece, thinking it would be mediocure at best, and it was absolutely delicious. They also have a large selection of all candies. After a day trip out to Evans City, we came home via Zelienople to get some ice cream. Little did we know that Baldinger's was on the other side of the ice cream shop. It was serendipity and made our day. We absolutely love it there. It's the cutest classic candy shop with candies from all over the country and the world. You can get classic favorites like a Zagnut Bar, Peanut Chews and Malo Cups. They also have my German Candy favorites such as Ritter Sport and Kinder Bueno which are amazing. They also had these peanut candies I love from Nashville called Goo Goo Clusters. They are one of my favorite candies ever. The peanut butter and large peanuts really make them. I vividly remember my father taking us on Sunday afternoon drives from Bloomfield to the original location near Zelienople (which seemed much larger than the new location, but that could just be my imagination). I've been going to Baldinger's since I was a kid, even at the old location. They're always nice to me and my kid (now grown). They have a great selection for all ages. I have heard great things about this little shop but it exceeded expectations by far!! My husband and I walked in and I was stunned at the amount of penny candy and just the variety of candy they have to offer! If I ever need to fill a pinata, I know where to go!! They had so many fun items such as gummy frogs and eggs, "bugs" in lollipops, a variety of chocolate items, and your bubble gums, lollipops, jolly ranchers, and many more. I could get lost in here! Not only would this be a fun place for children to come, Mazza sells their wine in one section of the building so adults can enjoy their time too! I've loved this shop for years and even now that I've moved away, I still make it a point to visit as often as I can when I'm in town! This is an old-fashioned candy store with so many different types of candies and goodies. Most products are priced by weight, but different tables are different prices, so make sure you pay attention to that. There are bags at each table for you to fill/tie and baskets at the front to help you carry all of your bags, if you're like me and have several! They also have cookie cutters, spices, honey, pre-packed candy and a variety of imported items. For the adults, they also have a wine store that allows tastings. It's been awhile since I've had the wine, but if it hasn't change, they have a good variety of dry and sweet, red and white wine. There is a $5 minimum if using a credit card, but I never spend under $5 there so that's a win for me. The banner outside proclaims "Food from all nations", but I spotted little that could be credibly called non-American (apart from the stuff that might be made in China). I've always loved Baldinger's. Been going there for years and years. Anyone who has ever driven by the old location marveled at the "Food from All Nations" sign above their massive store, complete with little old ladies counting out your candy by hand, giving you brown paper bags like you're a little kid....Oh yeah. It was a roadside pleasure palace for anyone with a sweet tooth. Plus it was a step back in time for all us "kids" of advanced age. Sigh... When they closed down and moved to a smaller location much of the charm was lost. The old manual cash register, the little wooden trays where you could collect your penny candy, the incredible grandmothers who were happy to help and greeted you like the kid they knew you were deep inside - all gone. Sad. But, there is good news. Yep, despite the smaller location and the increased costs ($1 for a candy bar and no such thing as penny candy anymore), it still is a wonderland. A magical place where most of your sweet fantasies can be fulfilled. Candy-wise that is. Sure, you can grab gummies by the pound, tooth breaking candy and filling pullers - all still there. I don't indulge in those myself. I'm more drawn to the Chunky's and the Skybars. And Baldinger's is the ONLY place that consistently has those on the shelf! So, yeah, it's not the same. What a clever little shop this is. They have a large selection of candies and treats that you won't typically find in stores. My wife and I stopped in today and ran across DeRuijter chocolate sprinkles that we haven't seen since our visit to the Netherlands 6 years ago. Sadly, the prices have gone up as of late. Much of the "penny" candy has now become 'by the pound" and all candy bars are now $1 each. For the every day candies (like my favorite, the Whatchamacallit bar) you'd be better off going to the local grocery store for a lower price. If, on the other hand, you're looking for something unusual or just want to take kids out for a treat then this is a good stop. Make sure you bring cash or a check. No cards are accepted. read more

Baldinger's is a gummy candy lover's paradise! I'm not usually one for gummy candy but I couldn't possibly leave there without a bag containing gummy bears in every flavor imaginable from the bulk selection. I was also very excited to make what I called a "gummy fruit salad" - gummy cherries, bananas, strawberries, etc. And root beer flavored licorice? That is one of my favorites. There is also a wall of candy bars that can't help but make one feel nostalgic. I noticed bags of some specialty candy and trail mixes, too. There seems to be something here for everyone including craft sodas from Red Ribbon, a local favorite. While I didn't buy any, I also saw a bulk chocolate table. There was a table featuring clearance items as well. I was a bit disappointed in the size of Baldinger's. I thought it would be bigger (I understand the old location was). Inside it feels a little cramped. It was not busy when I was there but I can imagine getting around will be difficult when the place gets crowded. While I thought the bulk candy was a good deal with tons of options, some of the prices on other items seemed a bit steep to me. I left with a bucket full of candy that cost under $20. I felt it was money well spent. Definitely a fun place to visit and would be a cool place to take kids (since they can pick out exactly what they want and make their own mix-n-match bag of gummy candy). An amazing experience....if you are in the Pittsburgh vicinity you should really stop by. It's about 30 miles north of the city and was originally a truck stop before Interstate 79 was built. My friend's grandmother was a waitress there. Now it's a mecca of penny candy and other assorted worldly novelty foods like octopus eyes. Just kidding, but they have some really exotic food. Candy Paradise! All the candy we remember devouring as kids can probably be found inside this cute little throwback store from the 50's. Even the sweet little old gals who work here have been selling candy here since then - adding by hand or in their heads to give you your total - and honestly, they've got some serious math skills! This candy store was recreated from the original a few years ago and relocated from Route 19 near the Evans City exit to Zelienople. This candy store was smaller than I expected. In addition, it does not really have "foods from all nations" as its sign says. I have been in much larger candy stores elsewhere that have foods from places other than just North America and Europe. Still, I was able to purchase some candies that I ate back when I was a kid. If you are visiting Pittsburgh from afar, a trip out to Zelienople is not worth it. If you live in Pittsburgh, then one trip out here might be worth it. I have been going to Baldinger's as a child. Back then, there were blue book laws and stores weren't open on sundays. BALDINGERS had a restaurant. Betty, a longtime employee, watched me grow up from my numerous. Sunday family trips up the turnpike, 2 exits and then RT 19. I even ran into my parents there on a Christmas eve! What a surprise since we all lived far away.... just shows you why this place is great.. i told my preschoolers that we were moving to the Zelienople area, and the first word out of their mouths was "baldingers:. I could reminsce about this place forever, but here is the facts. Give yours kids a dollar and a half. Let them loose with one of the small buckets. Good to reinforce those Math skiils. My family has been coming to this location for years. My mother used to make us treats for our kindergarten class with different shaped cookie cutters from here. Remembering that I decided to come back to get some fun shapes to use for my sons birthday party. They still have a great variety of candies and other products. I found some awesome cookie cutters. They also carry local honey and maple syrup which is a huge plus for me. Besides candy you can find different jams, salsa, soup mixes and seasonings. Scored some peach salsa from Volant PA and some honey sticks. Spotted a sugar free section as well in the shop. If you're into tea there is a whole section dedicated to it. I'm intrigued by the red velvet and mint mojito tea. The ladies working in there were friendly and knew where everything was that I was looking for. Definitely worth the stop! read more

Pretty nice place kids love it, there is alot of neat little gizmo's in there. You can get penny candy. There is alot of old style candy like when o was a kid, stuff like wax bottles with that juice in them. Lick a stick was there candy cigarettes, pop rocks. And to many to name as the pieces candy. It is only about 35-40 miles in zelienople Pa before you get to Cranberry. It is a nice little road trip that you and the kids can enjoy on a nice quiet afternoon read more

There's a great section for baking too, with tons of flavored oils and different unique cookie cutters. I have been going to Baldinger's since I was a very young child. I used to bolt out of the truck and across the dusty gravel parking lot, right up to the rickety white screen door. I will never in my life forget what I experienced within those first few steps on the old wood plank floor. The smells of a BILLION (slight exaggeration) different kinds of candy would fill my nostrils, a lot of which was atop the penny, nickle, and dime, tables. There was only one, maybe two, tables of 'by the pound' candy and it was mostly the kind of candy that adults were more interested in. There was an old deli cases with toy figures for sale. Of course, There was the gigantic old cash register. It kind of loomed over the whole place like an ancient guardian. Crazy pinatas hung from the ceiling and the entire place was just jam packed with colorful knickknacks, food oddities, all kinds of unique kitchen wares, and candy,... did I mention the candy? As a child you would clutch on to the few dollars you earned doing some chore for your parents or a neighbor and your mind would nearly explode with the thought that you could very well end up with hundreds, yes hundreds, of pieces of candy in one of the worn wooden baskets used to collect your selections. After deliberating over all the difficult choices you would go up to the counter praying that you counted correctly and didn't over spend, which, would have resulted in the impossible task of deciding which of your treasures you'd have to cut. The fantastic women behind the counter dumped your basket out and at super hero speeds would hand count every last piece of your candy, you handed over your dollars and or cents to be deposited in the gigantic register, and clutching your bursting brown bag of candy, you headed back towards the old white door. Before leaving, Mrs. Baldinger, sitting at a card table, would extend a basket of little toys your way. That's right. All that excitement and candy would be topped off with a free toy. The little toys were always cheap little things but, it never mattered. It was special for you. The adults didn't get one, just you. The whole experience was extraordinary. Something I will never forget. Unfortunately the owners or owner of Baldinger's either has forgotten just how special it all used to be or simply doesn't care. There is no more true penny candy. Nearly everything is sold by the pound. I recently visited the new site of Baldinger's with my boys. The outside of the new building was nice and shiny enough. What I saw when I opened the new, nice, and shiny white door was just stark and bleak. The excitement over penny candy was replaced by a dull wandering around trying to figure out what their hard earned dollars would afford them. Counting candy is easy for kids. For kids, trying to figure out how many 'by the pound' caramel cremes or Swedish fish is going to equal a dollar is just frustrating. Kids don't come prepared with scales and calculators. The massive guardian cash register is away in a sad little corner and just doesn't look all that impressive anymore. How could the register maintain its grandeur? Nearly all the wonderment that was Baldinger's has been stripped away and streamlined. It breaks my heart to write a review about Baldinger's such as the one I have written. This review however, isn't about Baldinger's, not the one I know. This review is about just another candy store that used the name and has shown it absolutely no respect. I asked one of the cashiers why there was no more penny candy. Her answer was that the owner did not want them taking the time to hand count the candy anymore. That pretty much summed it up for me. Of course the store has always been about making money, the old one the same as the new. The difference?... The Old store was also about the experience and about the kids. All that is lost now in the new, nice, and shiny store. Baldinger's simply doesn't exist any longer except, in the hearts and minds of those of us fortunate enough to have been through that rickety old door and walked that wood plank floor. This is a must-visit while in the Pittsburgh area! My kids know EXACTLY what they want, prices are reasonable, and it has an old-fashioned feel to it. You can just about find every kind of candy imaginable! They even have birch beer in a 4-pack of bottles! That made all of us VERY happy. As a side note, I'm a cake-baker in my spare time, so I enjoyed perusing through the assortment of all different cookie cutters that I can use for fondant. Baldingers is a Cranberry/Zelie institution, and you certainly can't come up through the Seneca Valley School system without having gone their with your friends to binge on penny candy at least once. They were featured on an episode of the Food Network's Unwrapped, and when I saw it with my boyfriend a few weeks ago, I shouted before they even said the name, "I KNOW WHERE THAT IS! That's Baldingers!!!"
