The Oviedo Cemetery is small and located across the street from Oviedo High School. The cemetery is owned and operated by The First United Methodist Church of Oviedo. The Twilight Tour is a one hour Oviedo historical tour with actors in period costume. It's not a ghost tour. The tour is free and $3 donations to charity are accepted. The tales include the civil war, celery, snakes and other surprising stories. You get into a group when you arrive then you rotate around to the different actors stationed at the gravestones. At the time, African Americans could not be buried in white cemeteries. To get to the historical cemetery, I drove down Boston Cemetery Road until the road ran out and then continued on the unpaved road. It is not a large cemetery and recent development has built around it, but we must remember the history attached to it. Oviedo, Florida was a very different place back in 1927 and in the near century from when Boston Cemetery was created to when I am writing this now in 2023, the area is probably unrecognizable. I am grateful for the tome that I was able to come here and pay my respects to those who are in their eternal slumber here and to contemplate how much Oviedo, Florida and the world has changed in not even a hundred years.

It felt like an insensitive thing to do but cremation/burials is a competitive business, and believe me, the costs are startling. But then I called Oviedo's National Cremation & Burial Society and their direct cremation option was surprisingly affordable - literally thousands less than the other local providers. Our family member made it known she wanted her ashes scattered at sea so a direct cremation worked for us. They even had biodegradable urns for sea burials. I had made my decision. Elizabeth Franco was the service manager who held our hands through this distressing time. She was kind, informative, and efficient. She maintained communication with us throughout the process and ensured we knew about all the keepsakes/services that their business provides to help preserve a memory. When we opted in, she offered guidance. When we opted out, she didn't push. She replaced our stress with a sense of calm and that in itself was priceless. Elizabeth exemplifies what it means to serve during a time of crisis and hardship. I highly recommend Elizabeth and National Cremation & Burial Society. We are from out of town and our family member passed away while vacationing in the area. The Hospital provided us a list of providers and because of the location and what we thought was a sound decision we selected National cremation. When we contacted them regarding services that were needed in the evening, we talked to an on-call service who took the information and said they would have a funeral director call us. We did not get a call until the next day with notification that they were essentially closed as they could not meet with the family the following day due to a planned IT outage to change their computer system. Their solution was for us to go online and fill out the needed paperwork. This was the most disgraceful level of service at a point in time when service compassion and caring should've been the upmost primary objective. When we went to transfer services to another crematory in town, we were told that they would hold our family member until their service fee for transporting from the hospital to their facility was paid. Mind you they are maybe a mile from the hospital where they picked up our family member. It took five stressful conversations and a threat for legal action before Michelle would finally release our loved one. With each conversation, she kept saying she would need to check with her "higher-ups". Upon asking to speak with the higher-ups that request was ignored. Michelle finally released our loved ones to the facility we wanted and we can move on. Again, if you're thinking of using this facility, save yourself the trouble, their lack of compassion, understanding and empathy for the families grieving their loved ones is nil. We will be contacting the Better Business Bureau and writing any other reviews that we can. No one should have to endure this kind of stress when dealing with the loss of a loved one. If you're looking for an alternate after reading this, I would seek out compassionate care crematory Korhey and his wife Laura are absolutely beautiful to work with!!!

Greenwood Cemetery is a historic cemetery just east of the downtown Orlando, Florida area. The…read morecemetery was established in 1880. Prior to 1880, the people who resided in the Orlando, Florida area had no permanent burial location. Eight residents of the area purchased twenty-six acres of land for a cost of $1,800. Greenwood Cemetery has since grown to over eighty acres. The cemetery has many of Orlando's past prominent citizens buried there, including multiple Orlando mayors. One area of Greenwood Cemetery is the heartbreaking section known as Babyland and is the resting spot of children who passed away under the age of five. Greenwood Cemetery offers tours usually around Halloween and there are plenty of ghost stories. One humorous story is that of Fred Weeks. Mr. Weeks was a northern businessman who was swindled by three men who sold him useless swamp land and billed it as prime real estate. Weeks responded by buying a piece of land close to Greenwood Cemetery and erected a tombstone with the three men's name on it and the biblical verse, "A certain man went down from Jeruand fell among thieves." The men bought the land back from Weeks. But Weeks was not done with these less than honorable men. Upon his mausoleum in Greenwood Cemetery, he had the men's names inscribed along with the biblical verse again. It is said that Weeks haunts the graveyard, as do countless other restless spirits. Greenwood Cemetery is an important part of the history of Orlando and definitely worth a trip.

The City of Longwood owns and operates the five acre Longwood Memorial Gardens, a municipal cemetery. The cemetery was established in 1957 but it has been used for burials since the 1880's. Longwood pioneers who were laid to rest here include members of the Henck, Searcy, Entzminger, Hartely, Hooker, and Clouser families. Notable burials include Longwood town founder Edward Warren Henk and his wife Mary, Charles H. Muir a Major General in WWI, Josiah B Clouser a Union Civil War veteran and recognized by the State of Florida as a Great Floridian for his pioneering contributions to Central Florida's development, and John Neill Searcy one of the original town settlers and the man who donated the land for the cemetery. The oldest burial is believed to be that of William B Holeman (Jan 10 1797-Oct 21 1880). The oldest section is the northwestern quadrant. The southern half of the cemetery was added in 1957 along with other improvements such as the paved pathway. The southern section has flat grave markers. The peaceful pathways, beautiful landscaping, brick entrance, and fountain add to the the serene ambiance of this well maintained resting place for the community of Longwood, Florida.
