Balfurd's has dealt with everything I've thrown at them and done so at a fantastic price: a white dinner jacket with a huge year old salsa stain on it, a silk liturgical garment, furs, dress shirts after the summer, you name it. Each time I get worried that I am about to drop a bunch of money on removing my food or pit stains, and it is always much cheaper than I expected. Their automated service now makes it super easy to both drop off and pick up outside of work hours, which is a huge plus. One note of warning, if you are getting a specialty item cleaned, they often won't let you pick it up from the automated side and you'll have to come in person during their open hours. I was in town for a short period of time and had flown in with a satin gown that was so wrinkled from travel. I dropped it off at Balfurd in the evening and they let me know two days later that it was ready. The price for expedited service was great as well. I definitely don't feel like I broke the bank here like the way some dry cleaners charge. Would definitely come back! read more

I had been warned that they have a reputation for giving one price when you drop an item off to be cleaned, and a different, higher, cost when you pick it up. One person had warned me that Balfurd Cleaners had surprised him at pick-up with a price for a sports coat that was significantly higher than the price quoted at drop-off -- and the clerk explained the difference by telling him that they charge extra if the garment had a "designer label." (It was a Bill Blass sports coat...) I had a similar experience the first and only time I used them. In my case, the clerk refused to honor the price quoted at drop-off, even though it was she who had originally quoted the lower price. But a more senior person contacted me later, satisfactorily explained what had happened, and offered a refund. So I will use them again, but will also insist on a price list! read more

I wanted to get my wedding dress cleaned and altered to be shortened as more of a cocktail dress style so I could wear it again after my wedding. I was very surprised to find out that Balfurd has a seamstress associated with the cleaner. The cleaning was done very professionally and Cynthia did a wonderful job altering the dress. Her attention to detail was great. You can't tell that the dress used to be long with a train. Stellar job by all. To have that kind of service in central PA is special. read more

My dry cleaning was done in a timely manner and the staff was friendly, helpful, and seemed to be very organized. However I do think their prices are just too high compared to others I've frequented. It cost over ten dollars to dry clean a cashmere sweater. I know cashmere requires special care and they seem to provide a good experience overall, but to me that is just too much. I dry cleaned a pair of gloves, a hat, a scarf and sweater and it came out to around $27.00. At a dry cleaner from where I am from in Philadelphia I recently got a trash bag full of clothes dry cleaned for $60 (including a large wool coat). read more

They do a wonderful job cleaning and maintaining the quality of your items. However, their prices are much higher than what I am used to paying. For this reason don't normally dry clean my clothes here unless completely necessary, but at least I know they are reliable. I also am not able to inquire a price estimate for my items I want dry cleaned. read more

I'm an alum of Penn State and was in town for Blue-White weekend last month. I had a formal event on that Sunday that I needed to attend and had brought a suit. Little did I know that mud had somehow gotten smudged on the cuffs of the jacket. Fortunately, I noticed when I got into town on Thursday just before lunch, so I brought the jacket straight away to Balfurd for cleaning. It was quite busy there, but, nonetheless, the customer-service clerk who assisted me was very helpful, knowledgeable, and easy to deal with. She was short in height with brown hair; I'm pretty sure her name was Julia. Anyhow, she was able to get me squared away quickly with a special cleaning of the coat so that I could make lunch down the street on time and also have my jacket back the next morning. They always under promise and over deliver. I have taken in many shirts now to have patches and other things done. Always a good price.

Brought in a very expensive dress shirt, a cheap dress shirt, and a very expensive suit while in town, on recommendation from someone I trust. They did a poor job of cleaning both shirts and made both completely unwearable by shrinking them a full neck size. They glued unremovable stickers all over the inside of my suit. This is the worst cleaner I've ever been to. The prices would be high even in NYC and they ruined my favorite dress shirt. So disappointed in these idiots. read more

Beyond disappointing service here. Took in a white dress with a stain on it and was reassured and promised that it would be taken out. Trusting this, I left the dress and returned 3 days later. The girl who checked me out hid the stains on my dress and never told me that they were not able to get them out. After I took my dress out of the plastic overlay, I realized that I paid a decent price to have barely any cleaning done to the dress. I was then told that I could not get a refund considering they did "the best they could do" to clean my dress, even though I was reassured multiple times they could get the stain completely out.
