Where to start... first I must say my wife and I scored some real swag [sorry, I couldn't find a…read morebetter word] with our three adult kids when we brought them here. As we stepped into our 2nd story room our son walked in from the back door. How is this? Well, as you walk out of your "balcony" door you step onto the lawns and trails that overlook the cliffs and the Giant Causeway. There is nothing I can write or pictures I can show to express the beautiful views and the looks on our kids faces. We went down one of the trails [away from the Giants Causeway] before dinner knowing that the next morning we had a reservation to go down the trail to the Giant Causeway rock formations. Dinner was fantastic and the service was great. We had a very reasonably priced bottle of wine and the kids had some beers and/or cocktails. The following morning we enjoyed the breakfast just as much; they also offered some Continental Breakfast items like croissants, Danishes and cereals. The receptions helped set up our appointment with Giant's Causeway visit center next door. She and all the employees we encountered were all very nice, friendly and professional.

The "gentleman" at the front desk was not honest about what was booked or not available and was rude to boot. Not only that the travel cot we paid for is nowhere to be found. There's no elevator, the bathroom needs some attention and everything else is dingy and worn. Just realized the WiFi is not working, so one more thing we paid for and didn't get.

This is the kind of place that kind of typifies old world class, but still has a family, friendly atmosphere with the giggles of kids running through the trees. The breakfast is a buffet style, and there are different activities throughout the resort. The only one we checked out was the pool just due to our time constraints, and it was lovely, more on the pool below (note that a swim cap is required, they have them at the pool check-in desk to purchase). unfortunately, the outdoor hot tub was closed while we were there and speaking to other guests, it sounds like it's been closed for the past six months, but it's supposed to be up and running soon. Wheelchair accessibility: There are accessible parking spots, but not a ton, there were never any available when we were coming or going. There is an accessible entrance to the left of the main entrance that has a ramp, there are two sets of double doors that require some maneuvering to get through. Much of the resort is carpeted, but there are ramps everywhere. we stayed in an accessible room that was great and roomy, the only issue was the angle of the shower bench made it such that significant leg strength is required to be able to actually sit on the shower bench. Accessibility at the pool: the staff were super helpful and accommodating. There is a ramp to get down to the pool deck, and then stairs with a handrail to get down into the pool. I didn't see a pool lift on site. It also looked like there were stairs to come into the pool from the locker room and so I'm not sure if there would be an accessible entrance into the locker room, I didn't use the locker room since we had a room. The indoor hot tub was up some steps with a handrail as well, and there didn't seem to be a step free path to get over to the indoor hot tub area.

And events at the hotel can be loud when you're looking for some peace and quiet in Dundalk. Breakfast was included with our room but it wasn't very impressive - some fried eggs gone cold on a buffet, limited healthy choices otherwise. Unfortunately, I had some bad luck when it came to my stay. When my plug adapter went missing, the hotel provided one. However, it didn't work. By the time I figured that out, it was too late at night to roll down to reception for another one so I just made do. A wedding at the event space meant that drunk partygoers were roaming the hotel grounds, singing and yelling, until the wee hours of the morning. Although I had booked a non-smoking room, and although I was thrilled that the window and balcony door could be opened to let in fresh air, my neighbor decided to smoke on his balcony (continuously) until 3 am. In a desperate attempt for sleep, I called the front desk. Once, the call rang without answer. And on the second try, they hung up on me. Great service and help, guys. I probably wouldn't stay here again.

We came with friends who stay here regularly for one of their birthdays. From the minute we arrived (separately to our friends) we were met by smiling faces and warm personalities. The room was beautiful, the bath was huge and the water pressure was probably the best we've ever seen in a hotel. Dinner was excellent, I had the potato and leek soup, salmon and roulade. Kidlet had vegetable soup and goujons and husband had Caesar salad and the chicken stack with crumble for dessert. We all cleared our plates. We needed some help with gin selection, and Jan/John (?) the bar tender was incredibly helpful and knowledgeable about the different gins and mixers on their extensive 2 page menu. Breakfast was delicious too. We'd happily come back!!

We stayed on a Friday and Saturday night and on both nights the Silverbirch hosted weddings. This created a real buzz about the hotel with giddy guests gliding up and a down the corridors. The staff in the hotel were excellent, even while dealing with 2 busy weddings they managed to be attentive to all guests. The hotel rooms are great - we booked a double but were given a twin but it was more of a suite. The room came equipped with a sofa, desk, double bed as well as a single. As part of the package we ordered we were given champagne on arrival which was a lovely touch. As mentioned I can't fault the Silverbirch at all. It's about a 10 minute walk in to Omagh town centre and had a Spar convenience store next door if you need to pick up a few bits before your stay or attending a wedding.
