I first went here in December of 2018, when I was experiencing a ridiculously bad back for the first time in my life. I was actually at the point of being unable to walk upright, and was in a pretty desperate state. I was given a very thorough examination, x-rays, and then basically sat in a room with a coordinator who told me I would need to pay for everything up front - thousands of dollars of appointments - and also buy a $500 back brace and a $75 foam pillow, which was essentially a triangle of cushion foam. I fell hook, line, and sinker because I was in so much pain and just needed it to stop. The first few appointments were pretty good, and I was actually feeling a lot better very quickly. However, I was also doing like 45 minutes of "physical therapy" (really just yoga stretches and some foundation training poses) at every single appointment, which was driving me crazy because my appointments were after work and it was already late in the day and I wanted to get home, cook dinner, etc. I mentioned that now that my back was feeling better, I was going back to doing yoga everyday and that I really didn't need the "physical therapy" portion of this at every appointment. I was told this was just part of it and it was required. I was told I had to do the exercises before I got adjusted, every time. I feel this was just a way to book a lot of appointments at once and then have everyone doing these exercises while we waited around to be adjusted. At this point, once my back was feeling better, the adjustments started to be painful, instead of helpful. My upper back and neck began hurting, which had not been the case before. I was talked into getting a "dry needle" treatment, which I was told was like acupuncture. The hell it is. I immediately felt nauseous, hot, and got pains down my neck and up into my head. I asked the doctor to please remove the needles as I wasn't feeling well. She refused, saying they needed to stay in long enough to be effective. I left there that night feeling horrible and actually was in so much pain in my neck the next day that I had to miss work. The whole time I had been going, I had been told I would at some point meet with a nurse practitioner for lidocaine shots. I had been told repeatedly that they had not hired one yet, even though I had already paid for these appointments up front. Eventually, over 8 weeks into this treatment plan, I finally met with a nurse practitioner. She administered a lidocaine shot - which I didn't even feel I needed anymore - and again, I felt nauseous, sick, and faint immediately. I tried to get up about 10 minutes after the shot, and almost passed out. I ended up having to lie there for 45 minutes to recover enough to walk and drive home. Finally, I started feeling like these appointments were actually making me worse, not better. I decided to end my treatment plan with about 10 appointments left. I requested a refund for the unused appointments and was told no. I am still paying those appointments off on my credit card over a year later. This place is out for the money. The adjustments are rough, the doctors are rotating and they seem to leave/quit often. The open floor plan is weird and way too intimate, the physical therapy is a joke, and half of the treatments seem to make you worse instead of better. Stay far away from these people. There are much better chiropractors out there who won't charge you thousands of dollars before you even have an appointment. read more

Do not go to these people. they are a scam! they will take you into a room with your spouse or family member. this is a con game that they preform to keep your attention. (To seem concerned " then theyare going to convince you that you need to pay $3000 dollars for treatment. Trust me this is not true ! . the case manager is also not a professional. it's someone they hired and trained but the person never went to school. I have only been working with Whole Body Healthcare for a week now, but I can only sing their praises. That staff is so helpful and so informative! I feel very well educated about the whole process and very cared for (love that I was able to have my X-rays emailed to me.) Not only that, but they approach your care in a holistic manner which I love. Every therapy session starts with a PT warm up and various exercises. They then have me move over to stem [small electro currents placed on your back/neck for those who aren't familiar] before seeing the chiropractor for adjustments. I appreciate this as I feel my body is more receptive to the changes, having been warmed up and loosened a bit. I should also note that they have diagnosed a case of scoliosis that nobody else has told me about before. I am 30 years old and I'd bet money that it's not a new thing. I cannot sing their praises enough. I can already tell a difference in what we're working on as well. DO NOT GO! I signed up because of the good reviews and within the first or second appointment I was sat down and asked to spend $3000 for a treatment plan. I'm a 23 year old and knew that I did not require 30 treatments and "saline injections" into my back. They immediately showed me medical credit cards without me ever seeing the doctor, which was a red flag. I'm convinced they are just in it for profits alone and try to sell you on a cookie cutter plan that costs thousands of dollars without a possibility of refund. Spend your money elsewhere. read more

I have had a great experience with Dr. Dorn, Dr. Beach and the whole team at Baltimore Back and Pain Center! I have been sleeping better, and have noticed a big difference in my posture since beginning my treatment. I had constant pain in my shoulders and it has been improving over the time of my treatments. They really do a great job of explaining everything and showing why/where you need the help. I was excited to try this office after reading some great reviews but after two visits with no treatment and only five minutes of actually speaking with a doctor, I won't be back. My first visit was almost 2 hours. I met mostly with a treatment coordinator who I told all of my history to and about my presenting problems. Then I saw a nurse practitioner who did brief full body examination with no explanation of what may have been going on. Then I was shuffled to get x-rays from a chiropractor but he only did x rays. I was then told to come back within 24-48 hours to go over my results. When I came back, a doctor came in to go over the x rays for no more than 5 minutes and I got the typical "you're out of alignment" talk. Then the coordinator talked with me about my treatment plan and pricing. I was quoted at 3x a week for 12 weeks around $3,000. I just have a big issue with "cookie cutter" plans that seem so impersonal. They required 10% down before any treatment can start (which would've been $300 that day) just to get seen by a doctor/start treatment. The treatment coordinator woman was very nice, but I don't think in two visits totaling almost 3.5 hours, 85% of my contact with staff was only with her. That doesn't seem appropriate. In short, if you can afford it and don't mind the "cookie cutter approach"- go for it. That's just not me. Seems like they're after $$. read more

Short Review: Dr. Dorn is of the school of chiropractic that believes that chiropractic can actually change the shape of the spine and cure non-pain afflictions. His manipulations are violent and twisting. His billing practices involve pre-charging you for a full treatment program - which in my case would have eaten up all of my deductible. Long Review: I used a coupon for a free examination and hydrotherapy massage. I got the free examination, but not the massage. On my second visit, Dr. Dorn had me read out loud to him passages from misleading chiropractic pamphlets. When he "adjusted" me, he did my neck with a violent twist in each direction. He did my upper back by having me cross my arms in front of me and he bared down on them while twisting my upper back. He did my lower back by twisting my waist and putting the weight of his body violently on my leg. I have been to chiropractors for years to control back pain, and none of them needed to be so violent. Most simply had me lay on my stomach and used light pressure to adjust my spine. On my second and third visits, the woman in charge of billing called me into her office and pressured me to agree to let her charge my insurance company for 30-40 visits in advance. She said that Dr. Dorn does not bill by the appointment. While waiting for my third appointment, I watched Dr. Dorn adjust 4 different patients. He used the same exact techniques on all of them, even though in the waiting room two of them had described vastly different symptoms. I'm currently undergoing once a month maintenance on my back after having 25 sessions within ~8 weeks to maintain the progress attained so far. The before and after xrays on my back showed a dramatic change and shifting of my spine and the compression of my lower discs is almost gone. Many of my friends have noticed I have better a posture and gait as well. I never had this kind of progress and results from years of physical therapy and braces growing up. The staff is quite friendly and they've recently expanded to do diet consultation. read more

These folks are within walking distance of my apartment. I have a bum leg from shoveling snow and a shoulder muscle spasm that acts up every now and then. Dr. Dorn and Dr, Beach are great! Did a full exam and spent an hour explaining what was going on...two nights ago I had the best sleep in a long while as the pain was gone!.. All the staff is great too! read more

I LOVE this place! Dr Dorn and his associates are top notch professionals. Ive had chiropractic care from other Baltimore area offices but none compare to the skill and comfort I found at Baltimore Back &Pain Center. I could barely move my head and shoulders the first day I walked in and two weeks later I am almost back at 100. They are performing gradual corrective care instead of trying to force my body into doing something it cant. Ill continue to see them for maintenance long after my current issue is resolved. I feel rejuvenated when I leave and have recommended their services to everyone I know in the Baltimore area. And if youre reading this, I recommend them to you too! read more

This place is wonderful! Really good, caring people who know and use multiple techniques to help me heal my neck and back problems. I enjoy and appreciate many things about being a patient here. The therapy room is a collective effort between multiple people to assist me through stretches, exercises, and with any questions about my treatment. They have a natural alternative to the cortisone injections I was previously getting elsewhere (as their entire approach is holistic). I receive lidocaine injections in the trigger points to help my muscles relax which helps the therapies work better, and I receive chiropractic adjustments every session. Everything is in one place, the team discusses my progress and has a coordinated plan, and I have never felt rushed as I did at past places when I would have one PT person and a 30 minute appointment. They also got me a back and a knee brace through my insurance. Excellent treatment by an excellent staff! read more

First off, I don't know any chiropractor who does not believe that adjusting the spine to the correct position and spacing to alleviate pain and correct posture, etc. is the PURPOSE of chiropractic care! A non-invasive approach is THE BEST OPTION for chiropractic care! If your chirpractor is suggesting surgery or other invasive procedures, then LOOK FOR A NEW ONE! Pardon the mix of a review and a rebuttal, but I feel that I have to say these things in defense of Dr. Dorn and his staff. Having been Dr. Dorn's patient for 12 years, I am wondering just what doctor this previous reviewer visited, because this is NOT how Dr. Dorn handles his patients or his practice! I have NEVER been "pre-billed" or "pressured to pre-bill" by Dr. Dorn's staff. They have always been very professional and willing to work with all of the patients on financial matters. This is NOT a business that is "all about money" as the earlier reviewer would have you believe! Dr. Michael Dorn is one of the most compassionate, generous and gentle people you would ever want to meet. I have had other chiropractic care, and adjustments made by only "gentle pressure on the spine" have done NOTHING to realign my spine to alleviate the pain. (If the other reviewer had such luck with such treatments, why was he/she coming to Dr. Dorn, then? Why not stick with their other chiropractor?) I have been in 2 car accidents and Dr. Dorn has done AMAZING things to speed my recovery and give me much needed comfort and relief. If this other reviewer thinks that any chiropractor out there is going to fully adjust your spine without using some, if not all, of the techniques that Dr. Dorn uses, then she/he is crazy. He uses STANDARD ADJUSTMENT TECHNIQUES that I have had performed by a number of other chiropractors before coming to his practice. And his techniques are NOT AT ALL painful! Sure, any pressure or movement when you are in pure agony is not going to feel good, but the results of his treatments are frequently immediate and sometimes ASTOUNDINGLY sudden pain relief is achieved on the first alignment. Dr. Dorn is very concerned about any pain that you are experiencing and will sometimes not even fully adjust you if the movement is causing too much pain, instead opting to use stim treatments and massage to allow the pain to subside and scheduling another appointment when you're in less pain. Now, how does THAT jibe with what this other reviewer is saying?! It doesn't sound like the same person/practice, right? My feeling is that this person had some reason to dislike the staff or doctor and has decided to bash them by leaving a hostile and incorrect review of the practice. Note the complaints about "eating up all of their deductible"? How are you supposed to get treatment that takes time if you don't have multiple visits and, unfortunately, have to shell out some cash to get medical treatment? Not every problem can be solved with one or two visits. There is no "pill" that will make back/joint pain go away! If you are getting "healed" in one visit, then they are giving you a "pill" to fix it, which is not what chiropractic care is all about! Take it from one of his oldest patients, this is the real deal. You will get relief and healing, concern, compassion, fair treatment, reasonable treatment plans, and fair billing out of this doctor and his staff. After 12 years of his care, I would not go to ANY OTHER CHIROPRACTOR. If you have any need of chiropractic care, then give them a try. They do NOT use "misleading and incorrect" literature, or abusive billing practices, or painful adjustment techniques. They don't need to do any of these things because they provide a quality service. The growth of their practice and the scads of happy, healthy patients are proof enough, but if you need to see for yourself, call them and get a free evaluation.
