    Cappuccino

After an afternoon of wandering around Harrogate my mum and I were ready for a sit down and a brew and happening upon Baltzersen's this seemed like the perfect place for a respite, tempted in by the array of delicious looking cakes and cinnamon buns. On this occasion we only ended up stopping by for a pot of tea and a cappuccino but the coffee was excellent and the service really friendly. As well as the cakes there are a variety of hot and cold Scandinavian inspired sandwiches which all sounded really interesting and delicious, although my veggie mum noticed that there were only 2 non-meat options available which seemed slightly unbalanced on the menu. I loved the modern Scandi look of white tiles and rustic wooden tables and chairs and can picture myself coming back and whiling away some time with a large coffee and a big slice of cake next time I'm in town. Also a slightly random (parental) aside but what a lovely touch placing a mobile above the baby changing table! It's all about the little touches!

When visiting Harrogate for the day, me and my friends were looking for a fix of caffeine. After initially asking in a shop where there was a chain coffee store, the assistant suggested Baltazars instead which was a great recommendation. Balthazers is a Nordic styled cafe that does a wide range of drinks and food as well as some gorgeous looking cakes. The cafe is very clean and bright. It feels modern but also welcoming. The prices seem decent to me but I'm used to London prices so it might be slightly expensive in comparison to other cafes nearby but definitely worth a visit.

Stopped in to grab a coffee since I haven't really had any good coffee since arriving in Harrogate! I found Baltzersen's while doing a yelp search and walked by so I had to stop in! I ordered an orange hot chocolate with espresso added and it was amazing! The foam art just made the drink even better!! I am going to make an effort to visit again before leaving England.

Really a lovely gem in Harrogate, testament to its popularity is the lunch time busy-ness. Great for breakfast, fast becoming a favourite here with delicious coffee from their very competent Barista's, along with the Pyttipanne, worth trying! If I could remember my loyalty card more often I'd probably do well!

Tasty open sandwich and yummy cake.

Here you'll find all the Swedish wonders you tend to come across near the checkouts and then some. I thought, why not try it out? I keep making a meal of the fact that my partner is of Swedish descent so I might as well get involved with the food. 'Actually,' he said the other day, 'my name originates from Iceland. Originally.' Yes but your family doesn't so keep quiet. While Sweden shared some of its cuisine with Iceland (the country, not the food store), such as those pickled herring rollmop things, the thought of which makes me gag at the mere memory of accidentally biting into one of them once... accidental because I think I made a mistake presuming they were edible, Sweden does in fact do comfort food superbly well, from meatballs to soups, fish and chips and the like, plus they're very good with desserts. Ikea's obviously not going to be TOO great a place to check out Swedish cuisine, it is after all a restaurant of convenience. It's also kind of confusing, and you can spot the newbies a mile off as they haven't a clue where to queue (it's okay, neither did I) or what order in which to get things, whether to help yourself... it's all a bit bewildering. Still, we managed - you grab your cups for hot drinks at the till, then the drinks themselves are round the corner from there, and the free refills really are a bonus. Ikea is going the way of America. Why can't we too? I'd set up office in Teacup or Odd every day if that was the case. You can help yourself to cakes, all of which are very pretty. Almondy bakes, fruity concoctions, decorated with little hearts and pleasant touches to make them all the more special. In all honesty the traditional main meals do taste a little reheated or not exactly fresh, but the meatballs are where it shines. Obviously I'm oblivious but they're meant to be deliciously tasty, and you can buy them frozen to take them home as well. The serving staff are pleasant and just like the ethos of the shop itself, the restaurant is simple, stark, functional but does what it says it'll do. And you can't argue with the prices, especially some of those cakes at just 79p.

This was one of our first stops in Harrogate, and I'm so glad! You don't have to be a coffee expert to appreciate the coffees here. They are really great. The staff were very friendly and alongside great customer service, the atmosphere in the brew bar was so relaxing. No pretentious feeling or snobby looks (except from the boyfriend) when I asked for advice on a coffee to choose. (I had a climpson and sons Colombian bean by the way, and it was really smooth with chocolatey notes). We were lucky enough to sit right in the window seat, and the decor of the place makes it feel cosy in a edgy-hipster way. The only thing that I'm not a fan of, and it's purely personal preference is the name. Why they had to seek inspiration from London (the interior is also dotted with London buses and tube maps), I have no idea? Harrogate is such a beautiful place, and I personally think they should have embraced their own identity more and been proud of their Harrogate routes! But like I said, just my opinion.
