Was in the Bancroft area on a warm and sunny late September weekday. Heard about a local brewery/pub so me and my friend had to check it out. Fantastic beer ! Brewer said they use deep well water that has a high mineral content. Makes sense as the area is very rocky. Had the Iron Man, Claim Jumper and a Vienna Lager. Proper 20 ounce pints for once ! Service from Rhea was great. Friendly, helpful and responsive. Great space as well. Locals chatting and a welcoming vibe. Highly recommended. read more

Bancroft Brewery Pub - A Hidden Gem Worth Stopping For! We stumbled on the Bancroft Brewery Pub on our way to Barrie, Ontario, looking for a quick lunch--and wow, did this place exceed all our expectations! From the moment we walked in, we felt welcomed by the warm, rustic atmosphere. They have a beautiful patio, which would be perfect on a sunny day, and our waitress was fantastic--friendly, attentive, and super helpful. I ordered the Iron Man Burger, and it was hands-down one of the best burgers I've had in a long time. Juicy, perfectly cooked, loaded with toppings, and a very generous portion--it left me full and satisfied. The sauce was so delicious that I wished I had a whole jar of it to dip my fries into too! My wife went with the Fish and Chips, and they were equally impressive: crispy, light batter, tender fish inside, and also a very generous portion. She was all smiles and cleaned her plate without hesitation. On top of that, the service was fast, and everything came out piping hot. Excellent seat at the bar tonight. Baseball game on. Superb hamburger and brown sugar wings. Side Greek salad-- awesome. I love beer, so do try the Claim Jumper IPA. They have Flying Monkey beer. So good. Loved the Apricot Blanche Chambly for a lighter flavorful tasty beer. The place was BUMPIN' on Friday night. Our waitress whom was also the bartender kicked absolute butt. We had drinks, refills, food, bill, and everything in between at a quick pace considering how busy she was. The overall vibe was the most welcoming of my trip to Bancroft. read more

Not sure why all the hating from the other reviews! I found this place pretty cool. Great vibe, friendly server- Britney, wide menu variety and great food. The menu offers everything from specialty items to burgers. I selected the Buffalo Chicken wrap, Britney suggest I try the side cup of chicken noodle soup (so I did). Lunch was great, hot, correct and timely. Side note I found this place via yelp 2 hours into my 5 hour drive from Barrie to Ottawa and almost past it by because of the few reviews and low ratings (would have been a mistake). I even bought a hat from their brewery next door. Definitely check them out and decide for yourself, as for me I will be back! read more

Went to this restaurant on a Thursday afternoon not too busy food was average our table service was poor had to look for the waitress for our bill never came back to the table to ask how are meal was. When it rains for four days straight during a cottage stay and you're stuck inside with the kids, they will drive you to drink, which is how we ended up at the Bancroft Eatery and Brew Pub. We decided to start with a few pints of the Brancroft Brewing Co. - the V Rock which is their kolsch style ale and a Prospector's Ale ($6.50 each). Kids ordered from the kids menu which included a drink and a small ice cream sundae dessert ($10). We went with some appys - a pound of wings (brew bbq flavor) ($14) and the poutine ($14). Our server was great with the kids and food came quickly after we ordered. Poutine was a generous size and the gravy had us all double dipping! The free WiFi allowed us to reconnect with the outside world and the multiple TV screens kept the kids occupied while they ate (even though they were just showing sports commentary). A great place to check out for drinks and snacks when you need to break the cabin fever! read more

Our family of seven arrived for lunch on a weekday. It was surprisingly busy. The initial encounter was with someone not at all friendly. They did bring paper for the children to play with but when I asked for crayons was snapped back " I'm getting it". beverages took forever to arrive. My son-in-law ordered a flight of beer and when it finally arrived one spot was missing because they did not have it available. What he asked as a replacement was completely different than what he received. One of his glasses arrived cracked... and no one noticed ??? The three children got the kids meal which was supposed to include ice cream. At the end of the meal, we were told there was none. That was not well received by our four and six year old ! when asked for a discount because we did not receive as advertised the answer was no. The food was tasty, but with all other factors in we would not recommend this establishment. read more

Ya know when you order a club sandwich and 45 minutes later you're still waiting...you've picked the wrong place. I hate ragging on a restaurant but this place is SLOW. The waitress keeps saying it's almost ready, but no luck. This is horrible! Pass this place and keep looking. read more

The food is pretty average - it's one of those "everything come wrapped in plastic" places. Don't expect gastropub food, despite the brewery downstairs, it's cheap (and cheaply made) small town Ontario pub fare quantity gets better reviews over quality. read more

I eat here every year on my return from the wilderness of Algonquin. The food is fairly decent, though there has been confusion with some of the orders and the prices are fair. I must admit though my taste may be biased though as I only eat here after living a week in the woods and on the last few days of meals I've basically been living off pancaked batter. read more

Wish I had better things to say about this brew pub. I had high hopes after a long day on the road, but was left pretty disappointed. Simple orders were confused, and the pricing seemed decent for mains, but add-ons were outrageous. A simple side salad (not a starter), was $4.50 and amounted to a small bowl with leaf lettuce, one onion slice and two cherry tomatoes with a watery dressing. Ugh. After walking into the restaurant and getting hit in the face (amidst the smell of sour beer) with the smell of a smoker, I felt like the pulled pork was an obvious choice. I was mistaken. The burger bun that it came on was soggy, the cole slaw had more cry than crunch, and the pork lacked any flavour whatsoever, with only a small amount of bbq sauce drizzled on top. Plus, a $3.00 charge for a sweet potato fries swap. Ruthless. My partner had a Buffalo Chicken Wrap. Again, hardly any flavour or sauce. Side salad was meagre. Server tried her best, and wholly, the service left nothing to complain about. I'd rather like to direct this "meh" rating to the cook staff. Meals that take 8 mins to put on a plate took over an hour to hit the table. Beers while we waited were hard to get. Our plates were standard fast food... a poutine, chicken fingers, and a clubhouse. The three of us were surprised at how poor this food tasted compaired to the price they charged. All typical from the freezer fair. Four beers and the three meals came in over $80. I don't mind paying for good food but the Bancroft Eatery didn't have any we could buy. Take my advice and drive the extra hour to Peterborough. read more

And I suppose in fairness we just had an app, not a full meal, but observing the people around us we didn't notice one irate looking table...We had a very pleasant experience even though it was rammed inside (we were on the patio which was also full) we felt the service was quite acceptable considering how busy it was in the restaurant. The waitress was impressively well versed in the drink menu/beer list and was able to answer all of our questions quickly. Our drinks came in a few minutes and the pickle fries we ordered (which were awesome) also came pretty quickly. We met one of the owners who was efficiently helping to clean off tables for the waitresses (like I said, it was rammed). She was absolutely friendly and professional and helped complete our positive experience. read more

I was weary given the other reviews, but I did not find it that bad. First they warned us that it would be 30 minutes for our food, and it did take about that amount of time. The server was prompt though in bringing food and drinks for our 7 year old daughter. Steak was good given the price, my wife had a cob salad that she liked. Their strength is the beer selection, from the micro brewery next store. Given that it is in cottage country, good beer and decent food is worth waiting for! read more

Solid family dining experience. Staff friendly and accommodating. I had there New York strip loin with blue cheese and sweet potato fries. Steak was done perfectly to my taste. The blue cheese added that extra zing, but I've made a blue cheese sauce before that I think would be an improvement on just crumbling the cheese onto the steak. My mother in law had the fettuccine with shrimp. The pasta and sauce were great but the shrimp were overcooked and tough. My wife always gets the Chicken cheddar melt and was not disappointed ... This is one dish they consistently get right. Deserts were good commercially turned out. All in all a good but not superior meal.
