Once i heard a ticking sound coming from my air conditioner so i took my car to Bancroft Auto and had Paul listen to it. He said he knew what was wrong with it he took something pointed like a pencil reached in the duct where he heard the sound and took something out that was making the sound. There was no more noise after that. I'm going to tell you only a honest shop would do that. I've been coming for Bancroft for years and they never disappoint. The guys are super nice and work very quickly. They are very thorough with their check-ups. I come get my oil changed here every few months and each time is quick and cheap ($15 because I bring my own oil). A few months ago, I came here to get my brake disks repaired- took a day, tops, and they even threw in some extra work. These guys could get mighty busy, so I would advise you call to give them a heads up that you're coming. But I have also just stopped by to see if they were free and they took care of me right away. I came in for a BMW X3 starter and the first day I visit the shop my car started up just fine and Rick was so honest he call me while I was at work and said Hey Terry if there nothing wrong with your car I don't wanna charge you for work that doesn't need done. Great mechanics, trustworthy and reliable. Ricky and Paul have been repairing cars for my family for years and they (the mechanics and the cars) have never failed us. With simple oil changes they always give the machine a thorough look over and warn you about any problems they see, or any problems that could escalate. We recommended ricky to a friend traveling from LA who needed an oil change and they noticed that there was a small leak in her transmission. Ricky mentioned that it could turn into a serious problem, but the car was driveable, he quoted her how much longer and how many more miles she could drive safely and how much it would cost to fix, assuring her she could get back to LA safely. I have been going to Bancroft Auto for about 7 yr. off and on for minor things .About 6 months ago my car started running hot because of a busted hose I took my car to Bancroft Auto they were suppose to replace all hoses , so they claim my car was fixed it was ok until a month ago , it started running hot again. I then decided to take my car to Pep boys they said it was the water pump but they were charging too much so once again I tried Bancroft Auto ,I left my car there for one day then they called and said that its not running hot but they refused to do the work because the pressure was not reading right. I then took it back to Pep boys they said the reason why its taking so long to replace the water pump is because they did messed up patch work with silicone all over my hoses. So they did not want to put the water pump in because they didnt want to undo what they messed up in the first place. SO PLEASE DONT GET YOUR CAR FIXED THERE I COULD HAVE LOST MY CAR BECAUSE OF THEM BEING LAZY!!! read more

I took my BMW Z3-3,0 there to get my oil changed and they replaced my ripped fuel filter (ouch!).. my fuel lines were all crimped and damaged.They. rebuild the box that holds it, fixed the hanger on my exhaust(and didn't make me pay for this!). My beemer gets a lot of beating and these people are just precious! They tell you the "damage" and don't try to get smart, they work hard and fast and their prices are just great!.. Well my daughter was not as into maintenance as I. To make a long story short, Midas kept advising for different types of repairs and would have kept us coming back. Took it to Bancroft Auto and asked how much would it be to get the car repaired. I believe it was Paul, he hung his head as a doctor would when delivering bad news, and then looked me in the eye and said the car was not worth the money it would take to repair it. I had a issue where my 1996 mazda millenia was shutting off unexpectedly, sometimes unable to turn back on. I had my car towed to this shop and they recommended all kinds of stuff that was supposed to fix the problem. I ended up getting my valve gasket cover replaced as well as a major tune up alongside some other things. I drove for about 2 blocks with peace of mind before my car shut off. Upon my swift return to the shop, the mechanic lifted my vehicle up, did some inspections and said it was the catalylic converter that was causing my car to shut off. I paid 650 and my problem was unsolved. Instead I supposedly got a tune up and some parts replaced. I took it to another rip off shop that I also reviewed on yelp. In the end neither shop fixed my problem. I found out later that it was the computer system in the car that went bad and was going to cost 1500 to replace. read more

I've had them do a simple brake pad replacement on my '85 RX7 as well as a brake pad and front strut/end links replacement on my 2008 Mazda3. I usually bring in the parts myself to save a few bucks, but their labor rates are really good which makes it worthwhile to take my cars there. I can't say enough about how extremely pleased I was with their service. They came by way of recommendation from a friend. I had an emergency situation with my vehicle on a Saturday morning. I called the shop and they answered promptly at opening time, I explained the problem to the owner named Paul, he told me that I could have my car towed in to the shop right away. After he diagnosed my car, he called me back within 45 minutes to tell me that he found the issue, and gave me options for repair before he did any of the work, I gave him the authorization to proceed. And within 20 minutes my car was done! Not bad for an automotive repair shop on a last-minute call Saturday morning with no appointment! These guys are VERY professional and extremely COURTEOUS.
