I wanted to make sure I followed up because I know my review will mean something for this business. I brought my classic Toyota Land Cruiser to Nayarit Transmission in East Oakland for a transmission fluid change. From the start, I felt at ease. Yes, there's a security dog on-site, but the way the owner treats him says everything!he's clearly part of the family, not just for show. As someone who loves dogs, I really respected that. The owner walked me through the whole process, explained why a higher-quality filter gasket was worth it (and he was right the one I had wasn't great), and even saved the old fluid to show the work was done right. He got the job done faster than I expected and at a more-than-fair price. This shop is built on honesty, hard work, and family values. In today's world, that's rare. I highly recommend Nayarit Transmission if you want quality work and someone you can truly trust with your car.

Wrote letter and followed up with calling but no response. Very bad choice using this transmission place. Had the worst experience.

Extremely disappointing and concerning customer experience…read more Last summer, we brought our SUV to Doral's for an air-conditioning leak. We paid around $700 for a temporary "band-aid" solution that involved refilling the refrigerant. We understood that this was temporary and that we would eventually need to return for a complete repair. This spring, the problem returned, which we expected. We decided to have the issue fully repaired and paid around $1,950 after being assured that the repair would take care of the problem. The document outlining the proposed work was sent to us by text rather than email, making it difficult to clearly read and understand. When we reviewed it, we discovered that it included a repair for an oil leak and several other items that Doral's later described as "just suggestions." We had brought the SUV in only for the AC repair, yet the total shown was close to $7,500. When my husband questioned the amount, he was told that the additional items were merely suggestions. If that was the case, we did not understand why they had been included in the total. He was then told to sign at the bottom of the text so they could proceed with the additional work. We declined and paid only the originally agreed-upon amount for the AC repair. The sales representative was also condescending and repeatedly tried to speak over my husband, which was especially disappointing coming from a business that promotes itself as transparent and family-owned. Less than three months after paying approximately $1,900 for the full AC repair, the SUV began making the exact same hissing noise associated with the original refrigerant leak. This was not a new problem. It was the same issue we had paid Doral's to fix. Doral's told my husband to bring the SUV back, which made sense because its website advertises a 3-year/36,000-mile warranty that includes air-conditioning repairs. My husband and I were both present when we dropped it off. The salesperson told my husband to sign the computer pad but specifically said there would be no charge because it was the same issue, so my husband signed it. A day and a half later, after my husband had to follow up because communication was poor, he was told that it would now cost $2,700 to repair. We could not understand how we were being asked to pay even more money for the same issue less than three months after paying approximately $1,900 to have it fixed. When my husband called to arrange pickup and made it clear that we would not pay again for the same problem, the representative denied saying there would be no charge and told him, "Don't put words in my mouth." Both my husband and I clearly heard the statement when we dropped off the SUV, and the conversation should have been captured by the cameras in their office. Based on our experience, we no longer trust this business and will not return. Save your money and find another repair shop.

This is my 100% true experience at Bay Motors Auto Repair. I brought my car in for a brake repair…read moreand ended up having to spend an additional $1700 to fix the faulty repair job from Bay Motors. I brought my vehicle to Bay Auto to change my brake pads, rotors and master cylinder. A day later, Ed the owner called me and said that my Automatic Braking System (ABS) module had also failed. Although it was not a problem before (no lights on the dash). I suspect Bay Motors did something to cause it to fail because I later learned that ABS modules rarely fail on their own. Anyway, Ed tells me the part is hard to get and it would take a few business days to get it. I didn't want to pick up my car with a compromised brake system so I agreed to proceed. When I went back the following week to pick up my car and proceed to pay, Ed then tells me the ABS light is on and that I would have to take it to Subaru to "reprogram" the new ABS module. He made it sound like it was no big deal and routine. I paid the bill and had to drive away with a nonfunctional ABS system which means the anti-lock brake system and traction control were no longer active. After conducting some research and bringing it to Subaru. I found the following: 1. The ABS module that Bay Motors installed was a used/recycled part that was purchased through Ebay Motors. See photo. 2. The ABS module Bay Motors installed was not even the correct module and hence could not communicate with my vehicle. (there are two models for my year/make/model - one with Subaru EyeSite safety feature and one without). Bay Motors installed the wrong one. 3. A properly installed ABS module, installed by a trained mechanic with proper tools and the right part would self-calibrate, not needing "programing". Bay Motors clearly didn't know what they were doing. To make matters worse, two days after getting my vehicle back, I was on the highway and my vehicle started shaking for no apparent reason. I pulled over to check my tires and discovered that one of the lug nuts on my back tire was MISSING. This was another very dangerous situation Bay Motors caused. I called Ed and he played it off as no big deal and asked me to bring in the vehicle the next day. I spoke with Ed after discovering he installed a used ABS module that did not work on my vehicle but he offered no solution or refund for the part. I would NOT recommend Bay Auto Body for any auto repair because of their dishonesty and lack of integrity.

They are not there to skip the things you can't see just to make the numbers easier for the insurer. Giovanna and her extremely capable team know the ins and outs of insurance negotiations, and they know how to help customers get what they actually need. Some of them have worked on the dark side of insurance, so they know exactly where the pressure points are -- and yes, they know how to wield their lightsabers. When I told people that a bus hit my parked car and kept rolling, after they picked their jaws up off the floor, five different people immediately told me: Go to Giovanna. One of them had just picked up their car from Uptown and said, "Don't even bother shopping around." That recommendation was fresh. My front fender hasn't looked this good since 2012. Wow. It's rare to experience the level of customer service that I continue to receive at Bruce's tires. A couple of years ago I got all new tires for my Tahoe along with my brakes - primarily due to the proximity of my office to their shop. No complaints, everything went smooth, great experience. I recently had a flat happen at a very inopportune time. I made my way over to them immediately and hastily with the hopes that they would somehow be able to drop what they were doing to meet my needs - although I knew that this was a lofty goal and a long shot. Right off the bat Tony and Tom both stopped what they were doing and greeted me, obviously picking up on my urgency. After pulling my info up and taking a look at my tire, I was surprised to learn that they were going to have a technician start right away on the repair. I was so grateful and taken aback at the urgency they were able to reciprocate as Raymond came out from the garage, politely and professionally introduced himself, and proceeded to take my wounded vehicle back to be made whole again. I watched as a 2nd tech, Ruben, came out and worked on the repair also and could not believe how fast these guys were working together to help me out. Within minutes I was ready to be on the road again. If the team here hadn't already done enough to quickly turn my bad day upside down, upon learning that I didn't have the warranty needed to cover the repairs, the guys again served up another helping of solid customer service and worked out a deal that was more than reasonable and within my budget. I've said it before and I'll say it again, if anyone has the opportunity to experience this level of customer service - especially these days - then Bruce's tire shop and the team here should be at the top of anyone's list if they provide any auto related services that you need or want!! read more

I have been a lifelong Bay Area resident and have been driving and maintaining vehicles for the past 30 years. During that time I have been to many tire and service shops with varying degrees of satisfaction in terms of customer service and mechanical turnbacks. For the past five years, I have been bringing my car in for tires and vehicle maintenance strictly to Bruce's Tire Oakland, the city in which I also reside. Whether it has been tire work, brakes, general maintenance or alignments, I have found Bruce's to be among the VERY few service facilities where I have not had to bring my car back to the shop due to some mindless error from a technician. I also have found the front counter crew to be exceptionally freindly and knowledgable. One gentleman in particular, Tony, seems to be very knowledgable in the arena of automobile maintenance and made me feel very confident about spending money on my vehicle. The prices are quite reasonable and you will not be dissapointed. It is also very important to me in particular that I do not feel pushed by salespersons into buying some product or service for my vehicle that it really doesn't need. Additional products and services were gently offered rather than shoved in my face. I highly reccomend Bruce's Tire for anyone who appreciates honest to goodness service with a high degree of professionalism. read more

I highly recommend Bruce's Tire - Oakland and Brandon Howard and Ray Brooks as your tire experts. Brandon Howard and Ray Brooks were extremely professional, friendly and highly competent and the tire service I received was excellent. I came in to the shop because I discovered, much to my dismay, that my rear tire had gone nearly flat while my car was parked in an Oakland Airport Parking lot. Brandon Howard was calm and professional and assured me that his shop would examine the tire and determine what was wrong. If the tire could be fixed, they would fix it. Ray Brooks, the technician, tested my tire, diagnosed the problem (a faulty valve) and fixed it in a matter of minutes. No new tire was needed. Brandon made sure I was comfortable in the waiting room, and the work was completed in record time. When the repair work was done, Ray made sure all my tires were correctly inflated and even advised me that my dashboard "low air pressure" warning light that came on when I had first started the car would shut itself off when I had driven a certain number of additional miles (he was right). I highly recommend Bruce's Tire - Oakland for your tire needs and Brandon Howard and Ray Brooks as your tire experts. read more

Second update .... Very professionally, Tom called and followed up on the issuance of the refund. The check had not yet arrived and he spoke with the Corporate office about it's issuance. Three days later, about 2 weeks after the incident, the check arrived. I also made an appointment and received a complementary oil change as customer good will for the warranty issue. Tom, and the Oakland location, could not have provided better after service assistance. For this reason I have changed my rating to 5 stars. He should be complemented for his customer service. First update: I would like to add an update to my review. I received a phone call from the manager who apologized and offered a full refund of the cost of the new tire and a complimentary oil change for the difficulties. He mentioned the program was changed on Jan. 1, 2022, but was not aware of any problems. I have forward the invoice, received a confirmation of receipt and am awaiting the check from the Corporate. I will further update my review upon receipt of the check. This follow up was excellent, prompt and very professional. This part of Bruce's customer service deserves 5 starts. read more

My wife and I began to notice a clicking sound when we made a sharp right hand turn in our 1990 Honda Civic. Since I work around the Oakland area, and my wife works in San Francisco, we met at Bruce's Tire in the morning ( a customer of mine suggested we go there), and I drove her to BART (even though Tony told us they would gladly give her a lift) . Within an hour after dropping off the car, I received a phone call from Ryan at Bruce's Tire. He informed me that the left side axle was bad, and that was the cause of the noise. He told me the right side axle was O.K., but I decided to have them do both sides. The work was done on time, and at a very fair price. As advertised, the noise was no longer there. We will be bringing our other 2 cars to Bruce's Tire from now on. read more

This is the first of many encounters with people like this, because finally my life is looking up! I've been having problems with one of my tires for awhile now. I drove into Bruce's parking lot and asked them on several occasions to refill my tire with air, and they obliged me with NO CHARGE! So, being that I am recently newly employed, I didn't have the money to get it fixed. They are currently fixing my tire and I can't thank them enough!!!! For treating me nice, that I felt like one of their rich customers that someone would treat nice, because they are wealthy! I've been coming to Bruce's Tires for at least a decade. Top of the line tires and service. My first set were some Generals for my Chevy 2500 HD. Excellent recommendation on their part. Load range and tread pattern covered me for work and play. The truck was actually junked and those tires were still on there in good condition. Currently they recommended Hankooks for my Tundra. I explained to them the way the truck drove with stock tires and they recommended Dynopro ATM. Excellent tire for towing the boat and blasting through the snow. I needed tires. My husband told me he likes to support the smaller businesses as usually the service is better. I was driving to work and I noticed Bruce's Tire, so I stopped in. I met with Tony and he was terrific. I am not very knowledgable when it comes to tires. He was patient, answered all my questions. When it came to the price it seemed reasonable. They got 4 tires and an alignment done in just about an hour and a half. Everyone was friendly, even the alignment tech answered all my questions and was absolutely great. Rainy day... going to work, flat tire. Googled a tire place... Bruce's Tires popped up. So, obviously, I didn't have an appointment when I arrived, all wet and bummed out. I was told it would take 45 minutes & they provided a reasonable cost estimate. The place is not much of a looker, but remember folks it's tires, auto parts and repairs; you're not here for high tea. What a great experience I had this morning! I had a tire that kept going flat and went to COSTCO but the wait was 3 hours. A friend told me to go to Bruce's and I went there and was waited on right away. Thanks to Tom (who gave me great customer service) I was in and out in time to make it to my 12 noon appointment and the price was right! :0) Tom said that it was because it was Tony's birthday that the price was right but I think they have great business anyway because my friend wouldn't have recommended them if it wasn't. I came in today with no appointment for Low tire pressure and asked if they could help with getting the problem fixed. I was greeted with an amazing attitude and was helped out right away, and my tire was fixed in less than 30 minutes I have been going to Bruce's for years now and have never had a problem. Being in the customer service environment makes me very critical of how I'm treated. While on lunch break, one of my employees had a flat. After a great person helped put on the spare, he instructed us to go to Bruce's Tire. By this time, our lunch break was almost over. We pulled up, greeted at the door with a smile. After returning from a cross country trip, I needed to get back to work, however my rear passenger tire was flat. Since I couldn't ride on a donut forever and needing professional tire help, my neighbor referred me to Bruce's Tires on Hegenberger. I always go to Bruce's Tires for tire issues. This time was no different. When I left work and started driving, I noticed I had a rear flat tire. I drove to Bruce's immediately and although it was near the end of the day for them, they gladly took my car in. Christian diagnosed the issue (I had a 3.5" bolt lodged in the tire), fixed it and I was home by 5:30. The people at Bruce's are always professional and provide honest and trustworthy advice. Tom the store manager was very friendly and greeted me as soon as I came inside the shop. He asked me what he could do to help. I told him my car needed a new PVC hose in order to pass a smog check. He came out right away took a look and did the repair on the spot for free. I was done in less than 15 minutes. Bruce's Tires is close to our office so we have taken company vehicles to them for years. Recently I started having some issues with my personal car (cracked radiator, flat tire etc.) so I decide to head over to Bruce's Tires. The staff is super helpful and they're quick to make their repairs and literally get me back on the road. This review is long overdue. A while back ago I ran over a large bolt of some sort near Lake Merritt. The tire deflated almost immediately. My car is brand new so the factory installed tires were incredibly hard to loosen. AAA took more than an hour to come and install the spare, wasting away my entire Sunday. The next day I went to Bruce's expecting to spend money on a new tire. Not only did I not have to do that, I got a repair for free in under 20 minutes! Nice facility with friendly and helpful employees and management. This was my first time there. They had my TWO flat tires repaired, remounted and the other tires set to proper pressure in roughly a 1/2 hour. I'm very impressed!! Sorry Big O. I have a new tire shop! Shout out to Tom and the boys at Bruce's. They just hooked it up with a tire patch (I had a screw in the tire) and they did it extra fast, as I had to make my way to my zone (I am a delivery driver) at a decent time. I highly recommend them. They have new and used tires and they do while you wait service. There's an area for you to sit in the shade while you're waiting and you can see them take care of your tires. Again I highly recommend them. Seeing that I desperately needed a repair, they still squeezed me in for a quick assessment and repair. The whole situation was roughly half an hour from pulling off the wheel to cashing out. My tire runs fine and isn't bleeding out from the patch work. The cost was only $25, which is cheaper than what I've paid in the past at other locations. The only reason I'm removing a star is because they over-torqued my lug nut and my dealership couldn't do a tire rotation without snapping the stud. Make sure to confirm your torque specs before having service done here I guess.

I was very happy with the price. The mechanics were very quick. I've always been a fan of Big O Tires as they are friendly, but I have also spent hours waiting for a tire fix. I dropped by A Plus Tires but they were able to help me immediately. It took less than half an hour. One of the guys explained to me that although the side of the tire says PSI 51, that because my car is small that I should inflate my tires to 35 PSI. News to me! I also learned that the bulge in my front tire was probably from hitting a pot hole. What?! a pot hole in Oakland?! haha. Everyone was super nice.

They had two tire options, and the "premium" tires (sumitomo) sounded quite reasonable compared to other places (I've bought a lot of tires for my kids cars). And they did the new front tires and alignment very quick! I had a laugh filling out the paperwork, since she told me not to bother with a few things, since they weren't computerized anyway. Wow. Well, whatever works for them!

do not get your car aligned at this tire shop the mexican mechanic that does the alignment uses a…read moreslide hammer to fix camber. yes a slide hammer. well it turned out that when he tried to fix my alignment with a slide hammer on the subframe he shifted the center of the subframe and shifted the control arms slightly towards the passenger side causing positive camber on the drivers side and negative camber on the passenger side and this put uneven pressure on the axels damaging both. the subframe being centered controls the camber alignment on vw jettas going all the way back to like 2006. the reason the alignment was off was because the strut was bent slightly on one side by using a slide hammer to shift the subframe that attaches to the control arms! he inadvertently gave more space on one of the axels and less on the other. this caused the axels to fail 3 months later. dont ever use tricks on german cars! maybe this works on japanese or korean or american not german engineering, you never ever should shift the subframe unless you know its off center. never use a slide hammer ever!!! this low level employee that should never touch a high performance car just bent all the tty bolts that hold it in place. now there is weaken control arm bushings, rattling, and axels that are on the verge of snapping!!! i saw the guy do it while i was paying. at the time i didn't think anything of it but 3 months later when i replaced the struts, the subframe shifted towards the passenger side throwing off the camber. i saw him use the slide hammer on the driver side, hammering in the direction of the passenger side. so it was obviously him. Mechanical Fact: You never try to force movement on a torque to yield bolt. Why? Why You Should Never Force Movement on a TTY Bolt 1. Risk of Bolt Failure or Breakage: TTY bolts are already stretched to near their yield point after proper torquing, making them less tolerant of additional stresses. Forcing movement--such as prying, hammering, or applying lateral/shear forces--can push the bolt beyond its designed limits, causing it to snap, fracture, or further deform. Unlike reusable bolts, TTY bolts don't "spring back" fully; extra force can lead to immediate failure or weaken them for future use, compromising the joint's integrity. 2. Loss of Clamping Force: The primary advantage of TTY bolts is their ability to maintain uniform tension. Any forced manipulation disrupts this, potentially loosening the bolt or reducing its hold. This is especially dangerous in high-load areas, as it could lead to vibrations, part separation, or catastrophic failure over time (e.g., a subframe shifting under driving stresses). 3. They Are Single-Use by Design: Once installed, TTY bolts should not be disturbed without replacement.
