6 stars if I can give it!! An honest mechanic! Quality/Quantity - Danny works on all our cars. We drive and schedule all our service from NV just so he can do all the maintenance for our cars. We have tried a few mechanics in NV, but none are as good as Danny. Hence us still giving him ALL our cars to work on. Atmosphere - Not the best neighborhood, but that does not bother me. My daughter and I even went for a walk while he serviced our car. Small waiting area, but I usually just hang out in the parking lot talking with all the other customers. Always busy. See my pictures of a FULL parking lot 30 minutes after he opens. Open weekdays from 9am to 5pm. He has stayed late for us on the very few times our schedule did not allow us to be back at 5pm. Closed weekends now, since Covid. I am glad you are now having a better work life balance. Service - 6 stars. Danny is the BEST. Honest, sincere, hard working, etc. Larry was a good guy also, my first contact. If you know Larry, you are long term customers also. Lastly, congrats to Mark on his recent retirement! And of course congrats to your kids for their many "grown" accomplishments! We always schedule to be the first customer, unless it is an emergency. Easy in and out for us. Price - They used to be inexpensive, but now charge typical mechanic prices. Which is fine with me as they are always honest and never have us do unnecessary work. My go-to location when I am in Oakland and in need of an oil change. Offers a $30 labor fee if I supply the oil, filter, and washer which I get in abundance if my parents have any extras or if I find them on sale. Beats a lot of other places in terms of labor fees. Can get it done in less than an hour if you come right at opening. read more

I had trouble starting my car. I went to Bay Area auto repair and the owner tried starting my car. The car started but he still checked under my hood and told me that the car battery was the wrong battery. He told me to change it and come back if the issue was still there. I went to o reilleys nearby and bought a new battery and replaced it. My car started up just fine after that. The owner knows cars really well and he didn't even charge me for his advice. I have been taking my car for service to Danny and Larry for almost 20 years. My wife turned me to him and she's been one of his clients for 2 generations. This shop is the most honest, with quality work, and fair prices I have ever seen. I had taken my car to other shops, due to convenience. More than a couple of times, I have had to bring it back to Danny for it to be corrected. The most recent time, the capless gas intake had broke off and I was told by the dealership that the whole pipe/hose will need to be replaced. They quoted me $400 for the part alone and another $400 for labor. I also needed the door handle replaced, which for the dealer was about another $700 for parts and labor. I took the same issues to Bay Area Auto, and asked them to replace the spark plugs as well, since it was time. Total came out to be less then $800. Still new parts, it wasn't like they used refurbished parts. They just fixed what needed to be fixed. If there's any extra they need to purchase for you, they will call and ask. I am not a customer--and that's exactly why I recommend this place. I knew my car was in bad shape, the mechanic took one look and told me (quite compassionately) that it wasn't worth fixing. I've dealt with a LOT of crooked mechanics over the years; he could have recommended repairs I didn't need, or even just charged for a diagnostic to tell me what he already knew. Came in the other day and was expecting to spend over a grand to change a couple brake pad and rotors in the back of my car, but the guy/boss of the place gave me an estimate of only ~700 to replace the whole set or for both the front and the back. I gave him my cell number and he said he'll give me a call if he'll need to replace only the 2 in the back or all 4 of them once he open them up to check, and an estimate time of 3 hours to finish them. 3 hour later when I came back, my bill was only 360, because only the 2 in the back needed to change. I thought it was quite affordable for the service and part, because when I googled up how much it cost to change break pad, and rotors, it said ~300-800 per wheel or tire. Now my car is amazing, no more creepy metallic sound from the back whenever I step on the break. Would definitely come back for future maintenance on stuff that I don't know how to do myself. read more

I'm new to the area. My car has been making a squealing/metallic jingling sound from the right front wheel when the car is in motion; worse at higher speeds and stopping when the brakes are applied. I stopped by Bay Area Auto Repair to have it checked out. The owner took the car for a short drive. I could hear the sound as he drove away, but the owner returned to tell me that he didn't really hear a noise and that there was nothing to be concerned about. The ongoing jingling was definitely still noticeable as soon as I drove away, so I took it to another well-reviewed mechanic a couple blocks away for a second option. Turns out there actually was a problem with a worn out wheel bearing and brake pad. It wasn't just a "old car make weird sounds" problem. I'm sure this is a good mechanic based off many good reviews, and it was just an off day, but I'm glad i got a second option. read more

So far, so good. I had a accelerator pedal replaced for about $300 including parts and labor. It took 1 day for diagnostics, and 1 day for sourcing the part and labor. I had my car towed from the dealer 2 Bay Area Auto Repair for estimate second opinion. Bay Area Auto Repair finish the job in three days my cost less than $800. The Chrysler dealer wanted over $2000. The owner Danny took time to explain what needed to be done and what I might expect in the future. All parts replace where exactly the same as dealer estimate. He completed the job on time and at a very reasonable price he has been in business 35 years and I would highly recommend Bay Area Auto Repair to anyone read more

This place is always busy, but they have great prices and the guy danny is knowledgeable. I had a few alignments and oil changes done here. You can drop your car off and walk to a restaurant to get some food. I had a prius with off centered steering. Brought it here to get an alignment done and it was still off centered. He drove the car around with me and advised me to swap my front wheels to see if that was the problem. I went to a tire shop and swapped them and it solved the issue. So my tires were probably bad. read more

They are super quick. No fuss, no muss. Told them what I wanted - oil change and tire rotation. They got it done it about 30 min. Barely had time to run around Lake Merritt (only a few blocks away). There are Asian grocery stores if you prefer to shop. Also lots of Viet restaurants nearby and a boba cafe across the street. When you get there, just park your car in an open spot and tell one of the workers what you want done. They'll take it from there. Car is happy as can be. read more

I booked my 1995 Ford Explorer for engine light trouble. On the bad side, the work took a very long time. But I don't blame the company, since apparently one of the parts they needed was very hard to obtain. Once the work was finally done, they also didn't complain that I needed two weeks before I could pay for it and pick up my auto! So that was very reasonable of them. I felt that they were very honest with me and that I could trust them. They even advised me at one point that I shouldn't get the work done, because the car was too old to be worth it. If they just wanted my money, they wouldn't have said that. In any case, they finished the job and I have had no problems. My car passed the smog test after this. So I would be happy to return here again. read more

I can't say enough good things about the quality and integrity of the service I have received from Larry and Danny at Bay Area Auto Repair. I have been a customer of theirs for approximately 8 years and have always experienced being well taken care of. Their services are top notch and their prices are "people friendly." I recently had an unfortunate incident where my car was towed to Oakland Acura (I own an Acura Integra) when it suddenly stopped running when I was in the middle of traffic. Oakland Integra told me that my radiator had exploded. I questioned this diagnosis since I did not experience any steam or loss of water from the "exploded" radiator. I then had my car towed to Bay Area Auto Repair and Danny did a close check of my engine and specifically my radiator. My radiator had not exploded ... and, in fact, was just fine. It was not the cause of my problem at all. I left my car with Larry and Danny and they brought it back up to speed and it is running just fine now. I love these two guys (they will hate me for saying this, but they are both total sweethearts), love their excellent service, and their competitive prices. I sent my son to him as well as my friends who are waiting for something to go wrong with their cars so they can bring them to Larry and Danny. I unequivocally recommend Bay Area Auto Repair!
