I love this place! I was referred to Banfield by a friend when I showed up to an appointment at my regular vet's office and there was nobody there... they were closed. So I took my cat to Banfield on Manzanita and I have to say I am very impressed by their dedication and professionalism. All the ladies that work there are extremely friendly and helpful, they always kept me updated, explained everything to me. Absolutely never again. We regularly go to VCA Manzanita but they stopped doing evenings and weekends. Found this place that was open Saturdays. Called in saying they (2 dogs) need their shots. 1 rabies was due and both for lepto. They got me in pretty quick but only let you drop them off. I asked how long till an inperson apt? They said they only do drop off for new patients. Should had been my first red flag. How do you get to know the patient and parent without meeting them? Dropped them off at 9am and was told it would be a few hours. They were not ready for pickup untill 330pm!! Thats 6.5hrs for some vaccines!! Then I had to ask for the rabies tag because nobody gave it to us. My dogs had to pee so bad they almost didnt make it to the parking lot bush. There is no outside areas they take dogs so they count on pee pads for stressed out dogs. Got them home and they drank for a solid 5min. I dont know if they gave them water but my dogs acted so dehydrated. Fastforward to 2/17 we get an apt reminder call so I call them, maybe they got it wrong? No my dogs needed boosters and thats okay but no one said anything about booking an apt 3wks out when we left. After talking to them I said okay keep it and ill tell my spouse about it and call you if we want to cancel since it was another 180. We decided its okay so we never called back. Show up at 3pm and they cancelled the apt since I never called back? What? I told you to keep it? I also got no notification about the apt being cancelled. Maybe I messed up with miscommunication by not calling back but a call/email/text would have been nice to know it was cancelled. Wont be back. Dont come here. Im mad we had to take them back for boosters in the first place with how dehydrated my dogs were after the first 6.5hr apt. read more

We take our 3 dogs here & are really thankful to have a place so close to our house that can handle our high energy boys and our sweetheart Mal. Two of our pups can be a lot to handle when they are nervous. It's always been something that worries me when it comes to vet visits but the staff is really patient. What happened to good customer service? I have a gsd that has GI issues and has to be on the Royal Canin GI kibble, which costs 130 for a 45 pound bag of food and does have to be vet approved. I usually go to the PetSmart Banfield on Watt and Arden to pick his food up, but they were all out. I called the Banfields on Manzanita to see if they had any of his food in stock. I was happy to hear that they did. The girl I was first speaking with told me that they have changed their rules regarding their dog food purchases and because my dog has not been seen there personally that they will do it this time but next time he has to be seen at that location. Then she wanted to confirm that so she put me on hold for 7 min. She came back on the phone and repeated herself and said she will have it on hold for me. After getting off the phone with her I received a call from the manager saying that they will not give me the dog food because my dog had not been seen at that location. I told this rude manager that I was already told I can pick it up. She said no and she will not make any exceptions. She told me to call other places. I told rude manager that his food is really hard to get and my dog was out of food and I needed it. She told me there was nothing she could do. Which is a lie. So, this manager is willing to let a dog possibly starve because she was stern in her way. I would HIGHLY recommend thinking about taking your animals to this place. They have no empathy or care of any animal. It's about money for this franchise. Just be aware! I will be contacting BBB and their corporate center. This is the WORST vets office I have EVER been to. I took my dog in for a simple shot and nail trim. They 1 charged me $25 for a "pedicure" when he just needed a simple nail trim not a "pedicure" and then 2 kept him for 8 HOURS before they gave him his shot and sent him home. 8 HOURS for a Bordetella shot. 3 of those hours were spent in the parking lot because they told me it would be a quick in and out trip. They charged me $126 for a nail grind and one shot where as last time I went in not even 6 months ago for my other dog they charged me $150 for 3 shots, a nail grind and a Dr visit. Wtf banfield. Don't recommend. At all. UPDATE: my dog was there for 8 hours and is very good with drinking water throughout the day so he constantly needs to go to the restroom. As I was reading through his summary at home I noticed this. I know for fact that Marilynn did not tell me that they "no longer walk patients outside but that if patient needs to urinate we will walk them around the hospital and facilitate urination on a potty pad" as I would have NEVER left him there in the care of Banfield. I'm sorry but if you are going to insist on keeping my dog for 8 hours to give him a simple shot and nail grind then you would have the HUMAN DECENCY to walk my dog outside as he has never gone to the bathroom on potty pads and I know for fact 100% refused to do. Yes, I did get a basic OW Plan after crunching numbers and feeling it would cost roughly the same annually for preventative care as out of pocket with the previous vet. The staff I have encountered here have been friendly and efficient. I like being able to schedule appointments online, and there's good selection of days/times available. The vet and vet techs take their time listening to issues. Dr. Reid has been great! read more

Don't take your pets here when they have passed. My cat passed away tragically by getting hit by a car. I took him here to get him cremated and ordered a stone with his paw print. Three weeks later I get a call that they messed up and didn't put his paw print on the stone. There's no way they can get the stone ordered with his paw print since he's already been cremated. Yes they refunded me for the stone and gave me the one with just his name but that still doesn't replace the sadness in my heart to know that I'll never have his paw print. When I took him in they couldn't even give me a paw print with ink. I was gonna get a tattoo of the paw print from the stone but can't do that now either! The lady on the phone apologized for the mistake and owned up to it however when I got there another employee said it wasn't even her fault and blamed it on their computer system. Made me leave in tears not because my cat is gone, but because of how poorly I was treated during a time of grieving. read more

When I called this week to make an appointment for my cat: 14 years old, losing weight and could only tolerate a soft diet, which led me to believe it might be an urgent dental problem that needed to be immediately corrected, I was told............that he could not be seen until a month from now. I have been with that particular pet hospital for several years and am astounded that Banfield on Manzanita in Carmichael came up with that answer. I did get in touch about this matter with their corporate office- they don't accept any responsibility and route your complaint right back to the non-caring, non-cooperative Banfield right here in Carmichael. So far, my experience has been fantastic. Everyone has been so helpful. I am incredibly grateful in how thorough they've been helping me figure out financial options to help my fur-baby, including helping find the most affordable referral for surgery. When he needed emergency care, they walked me through options of who they'd recommend and the process of getting him admitted there when they did not feel they had the adequate facilities on hand. When I was scared and overwhelmed to the point of not being able to even speak or not cry, they held space for me on the phone to gather myself and were very comforting. They are so patient with my questions and concerns. I am impressed how thorough they were in gathering information about his previous care, prescriptions, and supplements. They helped me beyond medication by helping provide resources on exercises to help with musculature atrophy with my boy's advancing age. Even when he had x-rays for his stomach, I was still walked through issues in his aging spine that were caught on the x-rays too, despite that not being the intention of the x-rays. I am so grateful for their thoroughness and genuine interest in the best for the animals. As for the humans, there is a little hot chocolate and coffee station in the lobby which has been a consistent comfort during appointment drop-offs. I trust them with my baby. read more

My dog is signed up for preventative care in which I'm charged monthly, yet both times I have taken him in to have services performed that we have already paid for there is some type of hidden charge for something additional they HAD to do. My dog is in excellent shape (confirmed by staff and doctors there) and is also only 3 years old. There's not a whole lot of medical issues he's ever had, in fact only ONCE did we have a medical issue when he was stung by a bee...... non controllable. Other than that he is perfectly healthy yet the staff is constantly trying to bring on charges when I bring him in and they're not honest about pricing when initially adding services on. I was scheduled to bring in my dog Saturday, they call me today saying they can take him early asking if that could work for me. I agree hesitantly as I need him home before 3pm so I can get to work on time and not be charged for leaving him there beyond pick up (since I'll be at work after 3). The lady who called me asking to bring him in today rather than Saturday immediately guaranteed a 3pm pick up. The lady at the front desk upon drop off also said this would be an issue. When they call me for phone intake the lady says she cannot guarantee any pick up time, even after I let her know two of her colleagues Kerri and Abi both agreed it wasn't an issue? Anyway.... She quotes me $38 for heart worm test and prevention. Doc calls me 2 hrs later saying the invoice is roughly $190......... I'm confused but it seems like so are they lol. Idk..... just writing this to try to help you all. Ask questions and confirm staff names when receiving answers because you may need it for reference. That being said 98% sure I'll be canceling our membership here and finding a more consistent/straightforward place. read more

My pup was really sick, he had some allergic reaction to something. He looked like the dog Chico from the movie Next Friday. I called them as soon as they open and explained what had happened.. They made time for my pup and so he was in almost immediately. They kept him for the entire day and called me to let me know of his progress. They were so kind and polite and very helpful! Horrible! Spent $1200 on the wellness plan, dropped my dog off for teeth cleaning at 8am, spoke to the vet at 8:20 and she said everything was fine. Missed a call at 9:56 to tell me he needed to have a tooth pulled, they called again 9 minutes later and said it was too bad that they couldn't get a hold of me so they didn't pull the tooth. When I came to pick him up they told me he absolutely needs to have this tooth pulled and I can just buy another wellness plan to have it done later. Another $800 and my dog under anesthesia again?! No apology or offer to make it right. If they had told me I needed to be right next to my phone for this I would have, but they never said that. They could only wait 9 minutes before deciding it was too long and they couldn't pull his tooth. Now my baby has a rotten tooth that could be very dangerous and cause him health problems and pain. I've taken both our dogs here and have always had a pleasant experience. I've had teeth cleanings, teeth extractions, vaccinations, pedicures, and one end of life experience. All were handled with extra care and professionalism. The receptionists and doctors are courteous and seem to really care. We brought one dog to put her down as UC Davis said that they would charge an incredible amount of money and it was still not guaranteed to work and she would die within a year. This vet disagreed and extracted the teeth without breaking the jaw (as UC Davis said) and charged less than half the amount and the elderly dog lived a few more years. read more

We have had Banfield Pet Hospital for their wellness plan. Their care is ok, not great, just okay. Couple that with their inability to schedule a direct appointment with their vets and it makes their service far less than desirable. They like to schedule our pet(s) for what they term "drop off appointments ". That literally translates into drop off your dog at 7:30 am and they cage your sick dog until it fits their time (with no concern about your pets condition and your schedule). Rarely, more like never, is your dog ready for pickup before late in the day. So we have to sit anxiously waiting to hear what the diagnosis is and then scramble to pick him/her up. Once we do get there with all of the other late in the day pickups, the vet is rarely able to discuss our pet. The techs usually delivers the pet and try to discuss your dog's condition. I don't question their care as much as I dislike the Banfield "system". It seems like once you sign up for their wellness plan they "have" you. Speaking of the wellness plan, the Good Lord save you should your pet actually get sick because Banfield's plan does NOT cover most anything that your pet needs. Their plan lets them tell you what's wrong and then the plan rarely covers anything that's wrong. X-rays, labs, surgery etc are not covered... you're stuck. I'd suggest finding an insurance plan with better coverage. read more

I experienced horrible treatment at this location. The lady who checked me in created drama that didn't need to be created. She had a sense of entitlement and superiority about her. She Gave me no respect. She gave me no service. I was offended by her lack of customer service. I don't pay for service to serve her. I pay for her to service me, but more importantly my animal. She failed to think of us before herself. When I detected her attitude I laid my foot down and then she couldn't handle it. So she ASKED me to speak with her manager. She had no ability to alleviate the situation. Usually it is the other way around. Usually the customer requests to speak with the manager. Evidence of her selfishness in this behavior. Very backwards thinking . They owe me an apology. They are wrong. The weak receptionist created drama and argued with me. You never argue with a customer. I was not going to stand for that. Her manager felt that my opinion of her associate was not appropriate so she refused to service my cat. All because I said the receptionist was crazy. It was not in her opinion politically correct. This is Un American. Not only did they disrespect me as a customer but persecuted me for my opinion. Everyone has a right to their opinion. It is wrong to refuse service to an American simply for this. I am glad now that they didn't service my cat. I live in America not Russia. People like this manager should not live in America. She certainly doesn't believe in Freedom of speech. I did nothing wrong and I said nothing wrong. The receptionist is at fault. She is the one who created this problem and the lousy manager lets her get away with it. If you want a veterinarian who cares about you and your animal don't go to this place. We had banfield for almost 5 years with our dog. Up until he was diagnosed with IVDD. This is when we started to see the flaws of banfield. They do not have anything to assist with the treatment. The particular vet we saw actually laughed and said if our dog needed a wheelchair it would be her first time. We brought our dog in on an emergency check up and because we did that and they ran a few test we somehow exceeded the amount and either had to pay or continue the plan till the end and not renew the plan. We opted to continue the plan.We ended up bringing our dog to another vet and continued making payments to banfield. Fast forward 4 months unfortunately our dog passed away and they still do not let you cancel. I get the contract but the care and amount of exceptions we made in the past with the mess ups they made with even over medicating you think they could give a little compassion. Anywho stay clear of banfield. Don't just stay clear run! Get pet insurance! read more

I called Banfield in Carmichael this morning to schedule an appointment for my recently adopted (rehomed) dog. I explained he wasn't well cared for, no vaccines since first round of puppy shots, so a 1 year old, he needs to start them all over again. And no records of vet visits or exams. Just one set of shots with a mobile pet vaccine clinic. I also mentioned that I have a couple health concerns about him. But they weren't interested in his health and care, interrupted me, quickly brushing them aside as secondary, and started pushing some care plans they offer. I told her that wouldn't be necessary since I have pet insurance. She was discouraging about that, and said a lot of pet insurance don't cover preventative care, etc. That was inappropriate and even more off putting, because it's none of her business how I finance my pet's healthcare. And besides the point, I know what my insurance does and doesn't cover. Ultimately, because I would not sign up for a care plan with a monthly fee, she said they are very busy with plan members and didn't have availability for a "New Patient" appointment until early October. But if I signed up, she could get him in this week. Banfield activity reserves open appointments for clients to whom they've successfully sold their care plans. Knowing that I just adopted a dog in need of examination, vaccines, treatment and very likely prescription meds, they basically turned us away because I wouldn't buckle under the pressure. Banfield is far more in the business of money making than in the business of animal care. And the irony is, the money they would have made if they'd seen and treated him, and prescribed him meds, would have been $100s more than the cost of one month of a care plan, about $50. Services are absurdly overpriced and I'm embarrassed to say that even though I had a feeling I was being ripped off I signed up for a pet wellness plan, a week later I read the details and realized how stupid it was - like two sets of vaccinations a year, since when did a dog need two sets of vaccinations. They told me my dog needed a tooth cleaning and I would save hundreds with the wellness plan, well I looked at his teeth and he has some discoloration on his canines but it doesn't even extend to the gumline. I called to cancel and had to pay $250 for the privilege of getting out of the contract, on top of the $200 I paid the day of the visit. Oh yeah..and the reason I took my dog to the vet - he has a flea allergy. So disappointed in this hospital. Requested a spay surgery for my dog for 1st week of September back in May and was told that they don't have the schedule yet for September and they told me they would put in a note for that on the schedule and contact me once the schedule came out for September. Never got contacted once. I called in June and July and still received the same response. Today when I contacted them, they stated they booked everything until mid September, which I can't do because we are traveling. Absolutely ridiculous. I have never been satifsyed with the care I've received from any Banfield. The Citrus Heights location misdiagnosed my cat even after over $300 worth of tests. My cat only got worse and Banfield told me to go to an emergency vet as they were closing soon... The emergency vet found what was wrong with my cat IMMEDIATELY and had to do an emergency surgery for him. They said if I had waited to take him back to the vet the next day, he could have died. Getting out of the wellness plan was a joke and still had to pay $200 to get out of it after my over $2,000 surgery bill. Every Banfield I have been to tells us we HAVE to get every test and medicine under the sun for every problem we have. I always feel as if they are forcing costs on us and just adding to our bill. They are also always late. I always show up at least 5 minutes early and expect to wait the 5 minutes, however it's almost always a 15+ minute wait. The only reason I continued to use Banfield after their horrible care with my cat, was because my other dogs are on the wellness plans as well. Today, however, is the last cherry on top that made me not come back to Banfield. Being a pet store employee I get a small discount with Banfields. I recently got a new puppy and had a coupon for a free consultation. I scheduled my appointment, show up, hand them my coupon and have my checkup. Only until AFTER the appointment and the extra fees I agreed to pay for did they tell me my coupon was not valid because I get a discount. I understand not being able to do something about a coupon but for it to only be brought up AFTER the appointment was just horrible. I had not planned to sign my puppy up for the wellness plan because if I could get out of them right now for my other pets, I would. Never have I ever been so disappointed with a vet before. I called because my local Rancho banfield is permanently closed. My second choice is Folsom but they had a Covid outbreak so were temp closed. Upon calling the Carmichael branch to schedule a dental for 1 of my 5 pets, I was informed the vet at their location needed to see my pet first before scheduling the dental. I insisted that they do both the dental and comprehensive the same say to save a trip. I thought the receptionist said it's ok. I went to the appointment to find it was only the comprehensive scheduled because the vet wants to see the pet first. I have been going to banfield for 18 years for various pets. That has never been a requirement. They normally look at my pet and can give advice during the dental. Come to find out, Dr Watson, recommends a $195 X-ray for my cat with a known tooth condition where her teeth disintegrates into her gums. It's a condition she has. When they see abscess visually I ask they pull it out. By the way she received a clean bill of health, good weight, eating well and no signs of infection this round. Yes I knew about the tooth condition. Yes I know she has little teeth left because of the tooth condition. She is 13 years old and has gone to Banfield since I adopted her at 2 years old. Ofcourse I know about the tooth condition and I also know I don't need to opt for a $195 X-ray bill prior to each cleaning. Especially with ABSOLUTELY NO other conditions to indicate otherwise. Other facilities just schedule my dental cleaning for my pets. So I ask about my other pets and they tell me the same for the 2 that need dental. Dr Watson needs to see them first. I'm telling you no other banfield requires this. My time is valuable and I'm so done going to this location. I would like to combine appointments whenever possible especially with 5 pets! So... I waited for Folsom to open and rescheduled all my appointments there. Btw no issues scheduling any of my appointments. And they told me exact details for each pet and which months I'll need to schedule. Also I asked Dr Watson who was helping a new attendant about by credit card when I was at the Carmichael branch. I needed it updated for my other pets if they were on hold because I had the card replaced. Her answer was they updated it for this pet and for any extra charges outside the plan fees for all pets. That's not what I asked. I asked for other holds to be cleared if any. Behold when I scheduled with Folsom there was a hold on another pet plan because Carmichael didn't help me look it up and fix it. By the way I moved all my pets to Folsom. Folsom said another cat had a hold so I fixed then and there. Why couldn't Carmichael look it up and help me fix it the day I inquired. Though I vent about my experience at Carmichael Banfield, the regular receptionist seemed nice and attentive to my complaints. The service is excellent. I found Jessica and Amy friendly, helpful, and patient. The veterinarian was thorough in explaining instructions for my dogs after care and needs. She also took the time to discuss my concerns and answer questions relating to my pug :) The environment is very clean and organized. Beware of the terms and conditions for their "Wellness Plan"...if your pet dies on month 1 out of 12, you are still liable for the other 11 months. As someone who had a plan for 6 years for 2 pets, I consider ridiculous that the company will not waive the rest of the months in case the pet dies. It's the most disgusting case of corporate greed I've seen. Can't even grieve my dog properly having to deal with this issue. His vet was awesome, I hope he goes to a decent clinic. During this crazy time with Covid19 I find it hard to walk into a place and still get treated with good customer service like before. But the Ladies and Bandfield were GREAT kind and talkative. I love this Banfield Pet Hospital at Carmichael in Sacramento. The whole staff is amazing and so friendly and courteous. I had received two brand new puppies back in April of 2017 over one weekend and this group was the only ones able to see both my dogs immediately that following Monday. (Shame on all those vets near parkway where I live!!! They are so busy they say...oh well). In other words, I drive 40 minutes to take my dogs to Banfield @ Carmichael and I don't regret it at all since I'm getting amazing customer service here. My dogs are growing up amazing with all their shots for $120 a month (1 year puppy plan) and they both got their spay surgeries done as well. Yes for only $120 a month for TWO dogs ($60 for one dog obviously). The spay surgeries were included in the puppy wellness plan and God it's so worth it since it would of cost me a whopping $1348 normally to do them both without the plan. I did pay extra $80 for 2 cones and pain killers but that's not too bad since its a one time thing. So my savings you could say was $1268.00...WOW...I'm going to howl at the moon this month. The girls here are marvellous with their routine follow up calls and appointment reminders. Lola and Daisy gives 4 paws up for the amazing staff at Carmichael Banfield Hospital!!!! read more

I don't know about anyone else, but I require a certain standard of care for my beloved 1 yr old golden doodle. I thought he'd be in good hands at a corporate facility where they also have standards, but I was WAY wrong. Here's why I will never step foot in ANY Banfield hospital ever again: 1) I called to schedule an appointment on June 4; made it for June 7. First of all, even before they schedule you or examine your pet, they're already pushing their insurance plan on you (which is a total scam - trust me I did the math with their fees and the plan was totally not worth it). 2) I showed up for the appointment on time and the receptionist stated she did not have me scheduled and they have another patient coming in for the same time. That patient was late so she decided to check me in. She said their policy is to wait for 10 minutes before deciding they are a no-show. Well, the patient was well over 10 minutes late, but was seen before us and left before us as well. NOT FAIR, and A WASTE OF TIME!! 3) When we were finally seen by the doctor, we mentioned the lump on the top of our dog's head that seemed painful to him. She just felt the lump (no test, ultrasound, or any other diagnostic method) and said it can either be a bug bite, or Masticatory muscle myositis (MMM). The only test she suggested was $600.00 and said she's pretty sure it's this rare disorder MMM and he'll have to be uncomfortable for a few weeks with no meds in his system before they take it. Either way, she said, prescribing him a steroid will make the inflammation go away. Well, the swelling went away for two days, but then once we started to wean him off, it came right back 4x bigger! I called back on June 17 to ask the doctor what should be done. She stated, "Well since he responded well to the higher dosage of steroids, he should keep taking that same amount for 3 more weeks." So, OK I will listen to the DOCTOR, right?? I started to give him the 20mg twice a day and even ordered more online (which was about $40. Banfield charged more than double for the same type). A day goes by and his lump got WAY bigger and he even started to have difficulty breathing. I took him to an ER vet in Rancho Cordova at 12am on Tuesday June 19 where the doctor took an ultrasound and diagnosed his lump as an ABSCESS! They had to drain the infection and he had to have a drain tube hanging out of his head for the next 3 days. My poor puppy had an infection this whole time and the Banfield Vet pushed the wrong meds on him that could've made him way worse! The ER Veterinarian told us to immediately stop giving him steroids (just once every 48 hrs to wean him off) because they are making his infection worse. SHAME on this facility for hiring such a negligent, careless doctor who could've compromised my innocent dog's health and cause a great deal of emotional trauma to my family and I. Since then I've gone to two other vets for 2nd and 3rd opinions to be sure, and they both said he was misdiagnosed by this Banfield vet. Do your pet a favor and never go to Banfield - at least the one on Manzanita. read more
