Do not go to this location. We had a appointment for our cat to get neutered. Unfortunately to their credit he was sick so he was not neutered. We were told to pay for a expensive shot to make him feel better only after paying we were told he would not make it thru the night. I went and took him to another location in North haven who were much attentive. The plan they offer includes many things with large hidden fees. Over a week later no one has reached out to check on him or reschedule the appointment. We tried to reschedule and were told we would be called in person. In closing our cat is fine he has recovered and if I listened to them I would have put just a sick cat with the flu down for absolutely no reason. I've written the corporate office and called several times to no response spare yourself the scam and go elsewhere don't waste your money on their monthly plans doesn't matter if it includes X-rays etc your still gunna pay for some hidden fee that's not clearly posted anywhere in the terms,the flyer they give or on any walol. read more

My puppy has been going to Banfield since she was 4 months; she is now 13 ... lately they are giving a hard time to get the travel certificate that for years I used to get. It has been a nightmare; she went for her dental cleaning and I asked for the certificate as well. For my surprise they stated that they could not do both as the certificate implied it needed the comprehensive which meant that then I needed to make a choice - dental or comprehensive. Then they stated that the certificate needed to be in another day - they had no drop off appointments for the weekend so they gave me for a Monday. A blizzard was on its way so I asked to be rescheduled which they did for Tuesday. However I called back as I got an email from them stating they conducted the comprehensive exam (which then I I did NOT authorize). Actually when I went to pick her up on Thursday from the cleaning procedure they stated ok - all in the comprehensive went well except for .. and I reminded her that she was there for the dental cleaning and questioned if it was done. She needed to looked twice and then stated they did it. Well so then I got there with no car to drop my dear dog for the certificate; they asked about "did you bring the simparica?".. really? did I need to? nobody told me to do so. I did tell that I give it to her every 16th of the month. Then I received a voice mesage/text stating that I needed to buy Frontline as they need to provide a treatment. I am concerned of giving so many meds for the same purpose. I called them and they responded they needed to do it or not able to provide with the certificate. I was waiting in a Starbucks close to them since I had no car. It would have been nice if you guys would let me know what I needed to bring prior to the appointment.. don't you think? Now no transportation and not willing to work with me in getting whatever they wanted. Every month and /or time that I ask for a certificate ( she is a traveler) there are always some kind of ROADBLOCK.. depending who is in charge - they ask or not for something. Total lack of planning and consideration for the customer. I am also concerned on the fact of two different meds for the same purpose (on one month) is acceptable. Very frustrating!! read more

Rarely do I write poor reviews but as I've had so many at bats with this hospital, I'd be remiss not to. I've been taking my dog son to this hospital for his entire life given the fact that it's close and they have pretty convenient health plans that cover shots, unlimited doctor visits, vaccines, X-rays and dental cleanings. Over the years I've seen this company clearly become like a pet mill and care more about the number of dogs being seen than actual quality of care. A couple of years ago upon check in, I was amazed at the number of dogs coming in at the same time and the extended wait times in an unkept waiting area with lots of chaos due to dogs being in close proximity. What I experienced this week just literally took the cake. I dropped my dog off at 8am for his annual teeth cleaning where I was advised that he can't eat or drink past midnight. I was told I could pick him up between 3-5pm. By 4pm I still hadn't received any call or update. I call in and they tell me that my dog literally has not even been seen yet! However, I'd received no call or notification of the delay. They told me they overbooked and had to even call and cancel some cleanings (as if that was supposed to make me feel better). So my dog had been locked in a kennel for that amount of time with no food and water and unable to pee?? It's totally inhumane and unacceptable. When we take our pet children to the hospital we expect the upmost level of care and this is not it! This process is already stressful as my dog is always completely out of it after anesthesia and has a rough night afterward but normally he's started the healing process way before I can pick him up. With the time they started, I don't even think they were able to monitor him the full time off the anesthesia as I picked him up at 6pm and they gave me a call for a question at 4:45pm and he was still under anesthesia. Usually my dog can sleep through the night after but he could barely sleep. Do you think they called the next day to check? Nope! As many times as they've disappointed me, honestly shame on me for not finding a better solution. Find a place that will actually care for your pet and not treat them like a number. read more

My two dogs received what was probably some of the best care they have ever received. My dogs needed (desperatel) a dental, also one dog had a growth on his eye lid and the other had a strange lump. The care received starting at the front with Ashley, Liz and I think the other young lady was Denise, were so nice and accommodating, they were smiling and engaging with me and my dogs. Dr Myers (love her!!! OMG) took such good care of my boys, they came back with shiny new smiles and the dreaded CONE OF SHAME! (poor baby) they came home as happy as can be. Dr Lang explained lots of things, he was through and patient. What more could you ask for in a Vet practice!! My boys are very happy with fresh breath and shiny teeth!! read more

I brought my two dogs and two cats all to Banfield today. Everyone was great. My techs were awesome and my vet was super cool and very attentive. He had to get down on the floor in the corner to give her an exam because she's a big scaredy Cat and was trying to hide under the shopping cart. And I love this place because They don't make you sit and wait in a waiting room forever like many vets that I have been to. I would definitely recommend them and will continue to bring all of my animals here. Also I appreciate the multiple pet discount. I'll take any discount that they will give me. We love Banfield! We've had nothing but great experiences at all locations we've been to but our dogs visit this location frequently and we are always satisfied. Ashley and Sage at the front desk are rockstars- so friendly and kind and sweet with my silly pup, Roux. They always give us the option to either drop off for a visit or be in the room, which I like. Sometimes dropping off is more convenient but I like to be in the room when I can. We've seen a few different vets there but you can't go wrong with any. Stellar bedside manner, attentive and responsive to questions and concerns, and seem like they truly love what they do. A+ all around for Banfield in Plainville!! read more

DO NOT EVER TAKE YOUR PET TO THIS FACILITY!!! These people are absolutely incompetent and a nightmare to deal with. I recently took my pet to BANFIELD in Plainville, CT. This location is inside of a Petsmart store. Banfield is also owned by MARS inc, who also is a terrible company to deal with and also does not care about their customers. Maybe they make enough money off of M&M's that they can put the lives of people loved animals at risk and not care. I took a sick young animal to this poor excuse for an animal hospital, and suggested to the doctors what i thought was wrong with my animal due to the research I had done. I was basically laughed at, and was told it was something else. They then treated my animal and let us leave. After a few days and my animal not getting better, we called BANFIELD and asked them if we could bring the pet back in. They told us not to bother and prescribed more medication, another antibiotic. After a few days and it still not helping we gave them a call again. This time they assured us he would be fine and to let the medication run its course. Less than two weeks later when symptoms returned, i decided to take my pet to another vet and get another opinion. At this time i found out that my animal actually was diagnosed with WHAT I HAD SUGGESTED TO BANFIELD IN THE VERY FIRST VISIT!!!! Now, Banfield is refusing to give me money back for misdiagnosing my animal, administering prescription drugs that he did not need (insisting that the medication would have been prescribed regardless, even though the manufacturer of these products does not agree) and allowing a severe medical condition to worsen during the time in which he was on these drugs. I never even asked them to pay for my new visit, or the increased litter used and time invested in cleaning during the period of antibiotics being in his body. They refuse to give me back the money for which they did absolutely nothing but harm my animal further by misdiagnosing his issue and allowing it to continue. They also offered to give me back half my money if I sign a legal document not allowing me to share this story with ANYONE....EVER AGAIN!!!. TRYING TO HIDE SOMETHING???? My puppy had her first appointment at Banfield 12.15.2020. While gathering all of the information to email to banfield (Yes, I should have been prepared but wasn't) the tech was giving me information and pricing on the wellness plans. I told the tech to give me a second because I was distracted gathering the items requested. They took my puppy to the back, and the game of messenger began. The tech came out multiple times with suggested diagnostic procedures that they would like to perform because of a concern I was having with my puppy. When asked to speak to the doctor, I was told to relay the message through the tech. How is it that you are trying to sell me a product (the wellness package) and I CANNOT speak to the doctor. The tech said due to social distancing, I CANNOT speak to the doctor, but they can get the doctor on the phone. Meanwhile, where social distancing at the desk with the plexiglass in front. How do I even know if the doctor performed an examination on my puppy, if they said they can get the doctor on the phone. I did not get the consultation that I was supposed to get and I do not know if an exam was actually performed on my puppy. I had many questions for the doctor and I could NOT ask any of them to the doctor. I wanted to know the pros and cons of spaying vs. not spaying, which I asked the tech and never got an answer. Obviously I can search online for that, but having some assurance from a doctor would have been great. read more

SORRY EXCUSE FOR A PET HOSPITAL! Did not help my little pup at all. Simply took my money ordering unnecessary tests yet still prescribed expensive yet ineffective medication and misdiagnosed her. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY! Go to a proper veterinary clinic. Although Banfield may seem cheap at first, the costs add up. If your dog is actually sick, the incompetent vets will only make things worse. Furthermore, the wellness plan is simply a way to take your money every month without providing any services AWFUL AND UNACCEPTABLE. They don't care about the animals, they only care about the money. When I first took my pup here, the vet spent more time giving me a pitch about the wellness plan rather than preforming a check up on the dog. 10 yrs as a customer with four dogs at the Plainville, CT Banfield Hospital in Petsmart. The Facility and the staff are courteous enough and the care itself is sufficient. The reason for the one star is the Fortune 500 company that owns Banfield. Be very careful when cancelling wellness plans. We had one payment not go through on our Amex (I confirmed with Amex it was only attempted once). Banfield was very quiet, no calls, no mailing, no emails requesting payment of the premium. They waited until the policy cancelled for non-payment then sent the bill for the last visit to collections. What was likely $400 worth of service (vaccinations) became a $1,300.00 bill without the plan. Any reputable business would have offered to accept payment of the premiums and reinstate the plan. They would rather get a small windfall (I paid the balance to avoid credit consequences) than to keep long standing customers? This is what happens when algorithms dictate company policy. Banfield Pet Hospital in Plainville is wonderful... other Banfields are not. For example, took my 1yr old Maltese to a Banfield in Las Vegas for an ear infection. The vet told me it could be a food allergy. Took my dog to Banfield Plainville and they told me the ear infection was an ear infection! Imagine that! They gave him antibiotics, infection cleared up, and my pup has never had another ear infection (he's 4 now and eats the same food). I think all of the employees at Banfield Plainville are great! Caring and compassionate too. read more

I brought my 17 week old kitten to Banfield for an exam and shots. They confirmed she was a female kitten and I made an apt to have her spayed. I brought Primrose to be spayed and they made the incision and began to operate and realized it was a male kitten. The stitched her up and then neutered him. Later that day, he nearly died because his stitches came open and his intestines fell out. They operated a 3rd time to fix the hernia. My kitten nearly died and endured a botched job from a Vet that can't tell the difference between a male and female kitten. In November I signed up for their wellness plan and I'm being charged every month for this surgery. I called several times to speak to someone in Customer Service. Nobody gets back to me and nobody cares about this awful surgery. read more

No way Never again, unless it's for simple grooming (ie: nail clipping). I brought our 9 yr old, female miniature Dachshund to Banfield because she appeared to have a skin infection and was losing hair, she also had a swelling on the left side of her neck. Antibiotics and a vitamin supplement were prescribed and blood tests were done. I was told that the swollen mass was an adrenal gland that could possibly be cancerous and that she might have a vitamin deficiency due to possible IBD and maybe Cushings. Well, something didn't sit right with me so I took Daisy to another vet recommended by a friend. Dr. Toby Kimm immediately didn't think that Daisy has IBD and the swollen adrenal gland is not adrenal, it is a salivary mucuole which doesn't need treatment unless it bothers the dog or ruptures. How could a vet not know the difference between and adrenal and salivary glands? Also, vitamin deficiency? Daisy has Cushing's! I spent more than $250 at Banfield and they wanted me to bring her back for more bloodwork, but we'll continue to see Dr. Kimm. read more

We brought our nine year old chihuahua here so that we could get her on the senior care plan. The greater reason is that we needed her teeth cleaned and that can be very expensive at other vet offices. I was a little wary because of all of the negative reviews here on Yelp. My best friend brings her 3 year old puggle and has him on a care plan as well for about $35 a month. This is why I brought our dog here.We got her on the plan ( about $40 per month for a year) and she needed an acid bile test to make sure her liver was healthy enough for the anesthia and cleaning/surgery. That went fine and we also had her teeth cleaned. No complaints. I like that you can drop your pet off around 7:30am before you go to work. They kept her in recovery until about 5:30 which was also convenient for an after work pick up. I also like that if you need anything from Petsmart, you can pick it up on the way out. read more

Banfield hospital is a money suck. I'm very disappointed in the way they do business. Always looking to charge more then what you initially take your pet in for. The maintenance plan is a total rip off, again always adding things, "proscription" your pet may not even need, and guilting you into thinking you do. Money sucking people to the point where it's not about the pet, it's about the almighty dollar! After the visit they like to say " look at all the money you saved because you're on our plan", but your paying every month even though your pet didn't visit them. In the end I feel you save very little, and what you supposedly save you waste in products your pet really doesn't need anyway. read more

This is a great plan to sign up for when you first get your puppy... The price is great, and who doesn't love a puppy?! But when you come back for your yearly graduation check up- the reactions are totally different from the staff and the doctors! Especially when you have a Pitbull, and let me inform you he is not aggressive what so ever, I could not have raised him to be a sweeter dog. Not only did they stereotype my sweet Pitbull but they sent me home with oral medication to give him myself!!! They were to scared and said he was too "hyper" to give his vaccinations to... And when they brought him in the back to do blood work I have never heard my dog make the sound that he did. At this point I was almost worried if he was even ok.. And this hasn't been the first problem, everytime Iv had an issue or concern about my dog they told me to drop him off at 7 in the morning and be picked up around 4-5 depending on when he gets "looked at" now I pay 37$ a month for this service. The doctors are not knowledgeable about what they tell me. I ask a question and they give me the run around about what it could be. At one point I was so unsatisfied with their feedback I went to an ACTUAL vet who knew what they were talking about.( and got another answer). Overall, this was a nightmare of a hospital vet and cannot wait until my 12 months is up so I can cancel- I do NOT recommend this to anyone who has a "big" dog or a "hyper" dog at that... Ive seen a lot of bad reviews here especially one where I live in Plainville CT. I have 7 dogs 4 Dachshunds, 1 basset Hound 1 chi mix, and one old English bull dog, I have never had a horrible time as I see here in the reviews. Dr, Miller is a very competent vet, She has done beautifully with my pets. She even calls the next day to see how this baby is doing,after one may have been seen and on special care. Having 7 dogs the margin for error can be pretty high, but not once has she ever done anything detrimental to my pets. Shes even put up with a overly worried momma, who in the beginning would call for the smallest of things .Ashley her receptionist among the other wonderful girls has been so helpful and caring, and even getting to know my pets first hand . There has been new people there and not the regulars which caused a bit of frustration, because they didn't know my babies and or know me , but that was only temporary. Dr, Miller is a caring and very, very careful vet! she really does care about our babies! don't be put off by these bad reviews, My experience has been one for a lifetime and my pets are very happy and healthy! read more

Horrible, horrible, horrible. Per request, I will elaborate more on this. However, Banfield removed a previous review that I left so I cannot guarantee they will leave this one. I took my animal here, and he was misdiagnosed on two separate occasions. The first time, I took him saying he had bugs crawling on him and that I thought they were fleas. Banfield told me they were not, but come to find out, he was infested with fleas. The second time is more complicated. He was misdiagnosed again, and as a result was put on several medications - which were being given to treat a problem in which he did not have. Mind you, he was less than a year old at that time. They treated him for several weeks with a false diagnosis despite my concerns and the fact that he was getting sicker. I was just told to let it run its course. After finding out what the real problem was from taking him to an emergency vet in the middle of the night, I requested my money back from Banfield. They refused and instead screamed at me and told me that they were more knowledgeable because they went to an ivy league school, and I did not. Long story short, I escalated this all the way up to the owner of Banfield, and then even further to Mars, their parent company. All that came of this was that they wanted me to sign a waiver which would have prevented me from speaking of this matter publicly, and in-turn, they would have given me approx. 40% of my money back. I did not sign the waiver - so by all means I am free to post any review I'd like. We went through hell dealing with Banfield, and ultimatley our animal suffered because of all the meds they put him on (which caused several other issues - one major one being digestive, which then lead to more medication and a prescription diet), and he got even sicker because we let his actual condition go untreated due to the misdiagnosis. We ended up paying just under $1,000 for all of this. After we found out what he actually had, it then took us another 6 weeks to get him back on track and healthy again. Turns out, instead of all the steroids they put him on, all he actually needed was a half of a Zyrtec every month. read more
