On Oct 26th 2022 I signed up my dog Hunter with your Optum Pet Wellness plan and was prompted to schedule Hunter a visit. I scheduled the visit and then received a confirmation email for the visit. The date that was provided to me was Sunday, November 6. Last weekend, my dog suddenly was showing signs of what seemed to be a UTI, there were small blood droplets on my floor so I called Banfield on a Sunday, they are closed but there is a voicemail that tells you where to go in case of an emergency. I took my dog to MedVet, he was given antibiotics and pain medication. The Vet at medvet asked me if I wished to have bloodwork done but I refused because I was under the assumption that Hunter had an appointment on November 6th per the email that was sent to me. I also refused because under the plan I picked blood testing is a covered service and the visit would have been significantly more expensive. Yesterday after I got a moment to collect my thoughts, I realized that NOV 6th is a SUNDAY and Banfield is not open on Sundays, per that voicemail message I heard the weekend before. I called the clinic where the visit was made to inquire about the visit and I was met with an extremely rude, abrasive and unhelpful staff person on the call. She not only told me they do not check online details, but that there is no way that visit exists. I made several attempts to explain my situation and this woman and she would not hear me. I admit, I became equally as difficult as she had been toward the end of the call but the manner in which this woman spoke to me was not only insulting, it was outright disrespectful. Sometimes, it is not the things you say, but the manner in which they are said. When I asked her why this visit was made on a day in which they are not even open,  and why Hunter is unable to be seen on a day closer to the date promised, she repeatedly told me I am free to go elsewhere or come and "sit there and maybe someone can see my dog eventually". She then began to refer me to places where my Optum plus is not accepted, and tried to send me to Pennsylvania. In all honesty, I would have gone there if they had availability, but their next visit is not until Dec. Unacceptable. I also do not trust that if I make an appointment that's an hour away he will be seen. I have completely lost my confidence in Banfield as an establishment after this. I work in the medical field and understand things happen sometimes. I get it. However, if a mistake is made the medical facility should do their best to remedy the situation and not make it worse. She would not accept responsibility or help in any way whatsoever. This person is working at a vet hospital and had zero compassion for what I was going through at that moment. I understand Banfield is not an emergency clinic and this was not an emergency situation. I needed to have a new patient visit with blood work that is covered by my plan. Instead, I had to call and schedule with another vet in my area who squeezed us in on this coming Tuesday. That clinic does not take your plan, so I will be paying out of pocket for everything. I also want to note that I have been a Petsmart customer for over 15 years. I have always picked petsmart over others for grooming, training, and retail. I will not be signing up for Banfield Medical Plan and I will no longer shop at Petsmart because of this unpleasant experience. I plan to share my story on my social media platforms so that others are not bamboozled into paying for something that they cannot access for their pet. Frankly, Banfield has no right referring their clients out to veterinarians offices that do not accept your Optum Wellness plans. By doing this your company is taking advantage of people like me who live paycheck to paycheck and pay the fee for the plan only to be told they cannot bring their pet in when they are scheduled to do so. Do better Banfield in Poland Ohio.  I have attached my visit confirmation email for reference. I hope something good can come out of this bad experience, if nothing else, the corporate office should be made aware of how that particular staff member( female, did not get her name but she was working with the office manager on Friday around 2pm) handles situations like mine.  Shameful. read more

My cat Arrow was being seen at the Banfield in Boardman for a mass by his spine. He is in pain and we were told it was time to let him go. On June 9th, 2022 we brought him in to be put down. The vet convinced us to pay $209 for another test instead. Ever since then the office has refused to give us the results of the test. When they actually answer the phone we are put on hold and hung up on. When we come in to the office we are told that the vet isn't there and only she can give us the results. The test results are useless now as it has been too long. We will have to have more testing at another vet now. I want my money back. I cannot believe that they actually prolonged an animals suffering so that they could get a few more dollars from us. Disgusting. read more

I cannot say enough terrible things about this place! Truly if you care about your fur babies do not take them to banfield pet hospital! These veterinarians are terribly uneducated and rush through exams always misdiagnosing basic stuff! I wouldnt take my pet rock to this hospital! My brother and sister in law had their 2 year old golden doodle misdiagnosed multiple times. I mean come on a basic ear infection misdiagnosed multiple times that got so bad the pup couldnt even stand. This place is an absolute disgrace when it comes to veterinary care. Consider this a warning to all the pet lover out there- if you love your animals take them to a REAL Veterinarian ! read more

NO COMPASSION WHATSOEVER. I took my ailing kitty in respiratory distress to this vet first thing on a Sunday morning. The receptionist coldly turned us away. She never informed the vet of our situation. Then this lady had the gall to recommend an emergency vet that was an hour away! I knew my baby wouldn't survive a stressful car ride an hour away. After experiencing no luck with urgent care, we called back later to ask when the first available appointment was and the receptionist just wanted to argue with us!! It wasn't until we reminded her why we called in the first place until she finally answered the question. In hindsight, I believe this receptionist did me a favor. I took my precious baby somewhere else (that wasn't urgent care) and he was treated much better. read more

I contacted the Boardman Ohio hospital to please approve a medicine which recent blood work was done and she was too sick to move. In fact she weighs 80 lbs and I was not able to move her. I called on a Sunday and then again on Tues. with no approval from her vet there. I had to call an older vet to okey the 10 pills of zenniquin from Allivet. If the medicine were approved in a timely matter, my dog might still be here. she passed away. She was 15 yrs old and I had spent $500 for blood work and they knew her situation but did not fax back the approval for this medicine. I will never take another pet of mine here. The almighty $ is not all this hospital should be about. So disgusted...... read more

Got the pet package plan here for about 40 bucks a month and it includes all of the dogs vaccinations, dog getting fix, office calls, and gives a discount on other services. The staff is very friendly and can usually fit you in anytime, the pricing is very fair as well. Both vets I've encountered are very good with my dog and explain everything to me in terms that I can actually understand. Overall I'd say this is a great vet for your puppy to start out at and possibly continue care through the rest of their life. read more

Took my cat there because she had a deep scrape on her stomach. At first the vets for very nice and explain what they recommended treatment were which I did everything but sedate herfor them them to shave her .but the did shave her stomach and cleanedit. then they put a cone on her head and said in 10 days she should be fine. 8 days later I had her checked because she licked the scab and a little bit of it came off. I brought her because I was very concerned but considering it was eight days in to the 10 days I just wanted to get her checked. I was there for over an hour and a half because I was considered a walk-in .I heard my cat screaming in the back I know it was her because she was the only cat back there. Then the vet came and talked to me and said that she would need to be bandaged because they didn't want her licking it and to keep it from getting infected. They just handed me my cat in her carrier never telling me that they took all of the scabs off of her belly so when I got home I was in for a big surprise she had this gapping wound on her belly it made me throw up they didn't even tell me they did that to my baby. and she stays in door and had the antibiotics still in her blood systems so she shouldn't really get infected but he insisted on wrapping her which he did and he wrapped the hell out of her he wrapped around her stomach with an Ace bandage she couldn't even walk and then gauze was going around her back legs and around her tail then they told me to put her in a onesie and she had a cone on her head my cat was miserable. Two days later I decided to take her to a real vet I took her to the kerpsack veterinarian clinic in Austintown the doctor there explained that the wound is healing after he took all the bandages off he couldn't understand why they put so many on her he said they would never heal like that the air would have to get to the wound he gave me some powder and I asked for another antibiotic shot just in case he said that everything would be fine. Banfield wanted me to come back every 2 days to change the bandages for at least a month so save your money go to a real vet there are coupons get you pulled in and then you're stuck learn from my lesson. Oh and by the way the Clinic manager Amanda is a real piece of work snotty I don't even think she knows what empathy is read more

In the past this place was ok with my furry boy, but that's without any issues...normal visits. I'm on the wellness plan for him. Then this past week, well, things went sour. My boy has been chewing on his paws horribly and licking his behind to no end. They told me to give him 2 and a half tabs of Benadryl every 12 hours. He was completely out of it! I stopped after doing this twice. I began children's Benadryl and this seems to help. I figured this out on my own. I also took my 2 year old cat at the same time because she developed what is called pillow paws. They prescribed an antibiotic. Ok. I ended up having a heck of a time administering the medicine with the syringe. She was inhaling and exhaling. I think she got some in her lungs. I really got scared and asked if I could bring her in daily so a "professional" could give her this necessary medicine to cure her illness which will get worse if she doesn't get it. I was told yes you can bring her in daily at $40.00 per visit. Now I'm looking at 2 to 3 weeks straight. Really??? Will no one help me??? It saddens me that when you get right to it the almighty dollar rules! When did kindness and compassion become a thing of the past. I'm trying to get this medicine in my baby but it's a battle. read more

I wish I could give this place a 0 star review. While I was home for Thanksgiving with my family, my brother's dog became incredibly ill and vomited several times, but both my brother and his wife were at work. The dog can not hold down food or water and threw up 6 times in one hour and was generally lethargic. I called my sister in law to tell her what was happening, and she called her vet's office. A doctor wasn't in the office, but they said her symptoms sounded like possible kennel cough advised her to take the dog in for care immediately. She couldn't get away from work, but she called Banfield and told them the issue and was told to bring the dog in by 5:30 p.m. She then asked me to take the dog in for her and said my brother would meet me at Banfield (he was driving directly from work). My mom and I got the dog in the car and drove over immediately (it was about 5 p.m. at this point). When we got there around 5:20 p.m. , the waiting room was empty. After a few minutes, a receptionist came in the room. I told her my sister in law's name and said that she had spoken to someone in the office and was told to bring the dog in for an appointment. The receptionist said she hadn't spoken to anyone, so I told her about the fact that the dog had thrown up 6 times in the past hour. The receptionist dismissed me, said the dog looked fine, and said that I would have to sit and wait to see if an appointment became available and they could maybe examine her. While we were in a waiting room closed off from the reception area, the dog became ill again and threw up twice. My mother went to tell the receptionist to update her on the dog's condition, and she merely told us that there were paper towels in the room and to clean it up ourselves. My brother arrived around 5:40 p.m. and we waited another 10 to 15 minutes before a vet tech came in and again dismissed our worry. She said we were overreacting and whoever told us to bring the dog in was wrong. She took the dog away to do general examination (take her temp, etc.) While she was out of the room, my brother called his wife to tell her what was happening. She returned with the dog and said that tests were normal but she wasn't able to check the dog's throat to see if anything had become lodged there and was possibly causing an issue and asked my brother for help. He was trying to calm the dog who was a bit agitated while still holding his phone in one hand with my sister in law on the other line and about to end the call. She gave him no time to do so and yelled at him to use both hands to open the dog's mouth. He dropped his phone on the floor to try to acquiesce to her request, but the dog wouldn't budge. She then threw up twice more. The vet tech left and after a few minutes, the vet came in, gave us no diagnosis, and said there was a possibility she ate something she shouldn't have. He said to give her pills to control nausea (but she is still vomiting and can't keep them down) and he also advised she eat soft foods. Vet tech came back in, reiterated that we were over reacting and said it was only an emergency if she was coughing up blood. As I'm typing, we've just arrived back at my mother's house. My brother attempted to feed the dog as per the vet's instructions but she immediately threw up the food and the anti nausea pill. I know this is long, but for many of us, pets are family and they should get at least somewhat sympathetic care. If a person threw up as many times as the dog has today, they would be admitted to an emergency room. Instead, we were told we were overreacting and treated like garbage. Prior to this, I didn't even have a yelp account, but I made one so I could tell people to stay away from this place at all costs. read more
