I scheduled an appointment for my senior dog, I want to get blood work done as she has swollen glands. Banfield called and left a message canceling my appointment, telling me to take her to an ER. She doesn't need to go to ER, she needs bloodwork. She's still eating and going potty. I rescheduled the appointment online for the same day and time. They were several other time slots available. They called me again and canceled the appointment, claiming they can't accommodate her. I explained she is stable, so then I was told they could reschedule in August. When I said I already rescheduled for the following day, I was told "I know, we canceled it. " when I asked why, I was again told they "can't accommodate her". I explained there were multiple time slots open. I was then told "Well, we have to prioritize our Wellness Plan members." So cancelling the appointment, TWICE, was NOT about not being able to accommodate blood work, it was about giving the time slot to someone else. I bought in an extrememly malnurished kitten I just rescued from a heap of (4) dead kittens in the heat of summer. I purchased the premade formula and powdered formula and a bottle. Not only would Banfield Pet Hospital not exam the kitten but they refused to give me warm water or help me open the can of premade formula. The bathroom did not have warm water, only cold. I begged for warm water. I was told to use the drinking fountain to make the formula with. I asked the PetSmart manager for warm water and she, too, told me to use the drinking fountain. I was horrified that neither Banfield or PetSmart showed any concern at all. Afterwards, I found out that cold formula given to a kitten so young can kill the kitten. My husband just called me and told me he had a cart full of cat supplies at PetSmart. I told him to not buy from PetSmart and go to PetClub in Cordelia instead. I have gone several times and everytime the staff at the desk never acknowledge you and they act as though they are irritated that you are even standing at the desk waiting for help. They pay more attention to the callers on the phone and are extremely rude and bothered when they do finally decide to help you. They simply never even look at you. Updating again as we received care for our cat Zelda today. Silvi at the reception desk is always so kind and professional. She went above and beyond and fit us in same day despite being extremely busy. Our cat was seen same day and serviced within 4-5 hrs despite not previously having had an appointment. John was our vet tech today and he was patient and kind explaining treatment options. Dr Guijarro reassured me of my cat's health and gave ethical recommendations for her care. He patiently recommended treatment options as well as explained why they were recommended which I appreciated. Sometimes, vets propose treatment plans but don't quite walk you through the why. Everyone today was pleasant, kind, and professional. read more

My dog had a pretty serious infection and needed immediate surgery, they were able to squeeze us in the following day. I am thankful that they were able to help my dog in such short notice. Update: Sadly, the service here has deteriorated since I wrote my review a little while back. I was trying to bring my dog in due to a very serious illness, and instead of being met with a caring and attentive staff, I was met with staff that was very rude and aloof. Aloofness is generally not something I complain about, but it is when displayed in response to someone who is in a panic with a very ill pup (I won't be too descriptive but let's just say that both my dog and I were in need of a bath after I dropped him off at another pet hospital...). To make matters worse, they couldn't even fit me in until a week later. My dog would not have lasted another week with all the fluid loss he was experiencing. It is deeply troubling that the staff didn't even bother to consult the doctor regarding his symptoms to make sure that waiting a week would not have been life-threatening. Back when this Banfield location was actually a place worth taking your pet to, they reserved time for emergency walk-ins. My confidence in this place has completely gone out the window. SCAMMERS AND LIARS!!! This place is very greedy, unprofessional and literally lied to me for me to keep my appointment. My dog is pregnant and I made an appointment for us to see how many puppies we were having. After the appointment the dr said they weren't able to get any pictures of the puppies for whatever reason and rescheduled me for another appointment the following week. When I checked out I paid $130 and then gave me an invoice for the next appointment for $320. When I saw that I asked them if they can deduct or give me a cheaper price for the next appointment because I would be basically paying them $130 just for them to tell me my dog was pregnant. The rep I talked to told me they would give me a cheaper rate! Of course when I show up to my appointment all of a sudden that conversation never happen they can't give me a cheaper rate. So I paid Banfield $130 for them to tell me my dog was pregnant. We didn't get no pics or anything from our first appointment. If my dog wasn't so far along in her pregnancy I wouldn't have followed through with the second appointment but I felt backed into a corner. I've never felt this place to be money hungry or to be the one to scammed people but this experience just showed us their true colors. This hospital has taken care of my dog, Sam, for the past 10 years and I want to say they did an amazing job taking care of him. They updated me on his health, helped me set up the wellness plan, and care credit. They gave him lots of love by making him comfortable during visits like giving him lots of blankets in the crate and doing a quick appointment if Sam was really anxious during drop off. They also took us in the same day if he had an urgent problem like when Sam tore a ligament. Dr. Miller, Jess, Cody, Cynthia, and all the staff really made Sam's life the best it could be. Sam passed away on June 6 this year at the age of 16. The staff really showed the compassion and care that my family and I needed during our grieving process. I also knew ahead of time that I needed to keep paying for the wellness plan until the end of the year, but the staff was able to make it cheaper for me on the months ahead. Overall having the wellness plan was a lot cheaper for me than paying out of pocket since Sam had a lot of health issues during the end of his life. Sam and I thank the staff with all our hearts for the care they provided him. I hope this hospital continues what it does best by providing the best health services and giving so much compassion and love to its clients. read more

If I could go back and never gotten the OPW plan I would. They RARELY ever answer their phones (they have probably answered around 2-3 times in the 100+ total times I have called). This wasn't a one time case. This is multiple days/months of trying to call. They are always booked out for months, and their app sucks for scheduling appointments so you really have no choice than to physically go in and get another appointment. I don't live in Vacaville so I don't and shouldn't have to be doing that. & yes, I do leave multiple voicemails and don't get called back. They also don't even know what they're doing half the time and some of them give rude comments. The staff is usually nice, but I usually request appointments with a Vet and I end up with a vet tech. The last vet tech started saying "what did they do to you?!" (Referring to me) and giving her unwanted opinion about my doberman's cropped ears. She didn't even ask or know if we are the ones who did it and also didn't even know the reason we were in there for that day. They have had me go in for shots more than 4 times when the shots could have been done in 3 times by the 16 week mark. (My puppy is 18+ weeks now and still not done) The vet tech even admitted to me that she doesn't understand why they weren't all done sooner. So yes, I am pretty irritated that they are having me go in more often and can't even answer their phones. I never leave reviews but I am pretty upset with this and want to let anyone who is planning on getting this plan to really think it through. read more

I highly recommend this Banfield here in Vacaville Dr. Miller is beyond far the best doctor I have worked for a few of the best doctors that are highly recommended and I will say Dr. Miller is right there with them. Not only does she have compassion for pets and people her mission and desire to help the pet and pet parent resolve any medical issues that the pet is having my experience today with another one of my pets that she has seen was phenomenal. She always goes over and beyond and when the exam is done she goes over from nose to tail anything and everything that she has seen has concerns with and then makes recommendations she make such a comforting visit. I highly recommend her 100% she knows her shit anybody that loves their fur babies like I do then I highly recommend her as your vet 100% not in it for the money she's in it for the compassion and caring for the pet, if she ever leaves Banfield, I will definitely follow her. My dogs have been going to Banfield for years. And Nellie for 12 years. After yesterday's visit I noticed a 29.95 fee for extra restaurants of Nellie, a 10 pound dog? When I asked they told me this has been charged for years, which I advised her I have been coming for many years and have never seen this charge before. I find it very disturbing that a vets office who knowingly provides care to animals cannot safely handle a small 10 pound dog in which they have done for 12 years is now charging a BS fee to make more money. If they need another person to handle my elderly pet, it might be time to find another vet who can. This fee would be like when I pull up to a fire, I charge an extra fee because I have to pull the heavy fire hose. Banfield you need to find a better way to gouge your customers pockets. read more

Having been a plan member for several years I can say this place has sadly been going downhill for a while now. Alas, I have canceled my membership. This place is always, always, always swamped and I feel horrible leaving my animal here in this type of environment all day. The stress and lack of organization is palpable. They either need a more help or they need to stop booking so many appointments/accepting non-emergent walk ins. Everyone from the front desk folks to the vet techs to the doctors are running around like chickens with their heads cut off. Everyone was kind. That's not the issue. But you can seriously feel the stress in the air. After my animal's last comprehensive exam, after leaving him in their hands for almost 10 hours (for a check up and labs) the doctor seemed too busy to even answer a couple questions about lab results. She apologized saying "sorry we are just SO BUSY!" Well, I was supposed to get a call about another result 1-2 days later. 6 days went by so I called in to get the result but was placed on hold for 17 minutes only to be told that the doctor wasn't even there that day and would have to call me back (which didn't happen for another 4 days) Advice to upper management: LESS money-driven efficiency experts making decisions here. Consult your vets and support staff. See what they need to operate more smoothly and provide better care. You already raised the price of my plan 3 different times. I know you make enough money. Time to shape up and do things right before you lose any more patients. Please, for the sake of your employees, and most importantly, the ANIMALS you intend on caring for, get some proper help for your team. Also, has the bathroom issue been solved yet!? Animals should not be trapped in a cage for 8 hours and expected to DEFECATE on themselves. That is a disgrace. read more

Wouldn't recommend the wellness plan. You pay monthly and they NEVER have appointments now some of there very good doctors have left too. I was taking my pup since she was just over 8 weeks old. She was healthy and thriving. Even took her in for ear and eye infection and she was healthy. That was untill she tuned one, they had no appointments so made one in concord where the Vet found a grade 3 heart murmur. Even she was shocked they never heard it before. She explained it was very loud. She is now receiving care at uc davis which we love. Just wish we would of known of her condition sooner read more

I have been with Banfield for about 20 years now. I have taken my three dogs there for their care over the years. I have noticed over the past few years that Banfield at the Vacaville location (as well as the Sacramento location on Truxel Road) have become busier and busier. From a Wellness plan members point of view it does not seem as though they have staffed their facility to meet their growing clientele. This is an issue I noticed prior to the Covid pandemic hitting. That being said they raise their prices on their Wellness plans almost every year, they have a great deal of members so why not treat your members better. Almost every time I call I am put on hold for an extended period of time and the person doesn't always remember you are on hold. So have to call back. Once you get a hold of someone they are usually nice and helpful. Which makes up for it once or twice but when it continually happens practically every time you call it gets old. Then there's the waiting in line to get checked in or pickup your poor pet that has been there for hours with no bathroom break. I have waited in that line upwards of 20 minutes some days. Banfield does not have enough staff working the front desk! The front desk staff deal with all customers at the front desk and take phone calls. Doesn't make sense. They should have someone else taking the phone calls and maybe more than one or two people working the front desk. When I signed up years ago it wasn't like this. You didn't have to wait so long to get help. They actually had an adequate amount of staff to member ratio. I have been contemplating cancelling my wellness plan for a while and after this last visit it has pushed me more towards that resolution. The final straw was when I asked to have my dogs nails trim. She informed me that if the dog wasn't cooperative and they needed a second person to assist in this process there would be an additional charge of $22. So now a nail trim costs nearly $40! Banfield you are ridiculous! Don't even try to call the customer service line when you need help either. You could be on hold for nearly an hour, if you can even get through to speak to someone since they seem to shut the phones down or don't have enough staff to work their call center either! read more

I've been bringing my dogs to Banfield (and using their Pet plan) for years, and I've had mostly great experiences. I do know that it's very tough in the Veterinary industry now, following the pandemic. There's a shortage of vets and a surplus of pets, and these guys are doing the best they can under the circumstances. Unfortunately, pet drop-offs are the norm there now, but I've not had issues getting my questions answered and feeling like my dog was cared for. My dog was recently seen by Dr. Bogdanovic, who is a caring and knowledgeable professional who took the time to explain things etc. The techs are generally so sweet and attentive as well. I want to especially praise the front desk associate, Jessie. They are lucky to have her on the team. That can't be an easy job (considering some of these reviews), but she goes above and beyond with patience, kindness, and professionalism. And if Dr. Salazar is still overseeing this place (and the Davis location), I will continue to trust them with my dog's care. I came here for my free visit yesterday as I wanted another opinion on a spot that had begun growing in a precarious area of my dog. I scheduled my appointment with Dr. Sophie Grundy. I got to the Petsmart and things were going a bit slow (everyone is working during a pandemic so no worries there). Also, the staff was all very nice. First visit with new puppy. Everyone had good bed side manners. Dr. Checked vitals, said my puppy looked good. Pencil whipped her paperwork, and tried to sell me every shot on there list. Didn't go over any puppy check list or any puppy concerns. She didn't even check some specific things I requested. I asked for the manager to give me a call, I wanted to discuss giving them another opportunity to do there job correctly and earn my d business. A week later the assistant manager called saying manager is to busy, I requested the manager call me back. 2 weeks later nothing. My advice, don't waste your time. Dr was nice on the phone but they should take less patient's and therefore they would turnaround appointments faster. I'm forced to say that I have had better experiences with other vets. Although the clinic is clean and the workers are really sweet, I had to make sure that the prescriptions for my Max was correct before accepting them. I brought my Max into this Banfield to pull two of his teeth since his oral hygiene wasn't maintained by his previous owners. When I went to pick Max up and his antibiotics/pain killers, the nurse at the reception desk caught the misprinted dosage on the bottle. Whoever made the prescription tripled the amount of mg as well as dosage that we were supposed to give him per day. I do understand that mistakes can be made but when it comes to medication mix ups, I'm not too keen on that topic. The head Vet for the night explained to me that there was a mix up and had terminated the nurse that made the mistake. If the receptionist hadn't of caught the misprint and my family and I had administered the medication according to the prescription, Max may of had an allergic reaction considering that we do not know his past medical or health issues or even the possibility of death by overdose. I thanked the nurse that caught the mistake but I cannot forget that simple mistake. read more

Megan at the front desk has extremely poor customer service. I created this Yelp simply to communicate how poor the service was. My family & I are honestly surprised that she chose to have a job in customer service. She needs to be re-trained on how to be empathetic, how to show human compassion, be mindful of how she comes across (this is a huge one), how to be more approachable, how to not seem so flustered so easily such that as a customer you won't feel bad for having simply visited banfield. I genuinely believe she does not know how she comes across such that even another customer in front of us gave us a surprised look. My family came to Banfield a few times and every time we were unfortunately stuck with Megan. Her customer service was so horrible that even our 6 year old daughter said that she felt that Megan should go in the back office away from the front desk and should not be the face of banfield as she creates an unwelcoming environment almost as if she hates her job. This is how we felt and even a young child felt that way. She wasn't wearing her name tag a couple visits so we had to ask her what her name was, I am hoping she even gave a real name. We decided not to join Banfield after all simply because of her. The rest of the staff was great, however, Megan's customer service was so unprofessional that it is not worth it for us to ruin our experience and spend money to feel unwelcomed. I am very happy to update my review today with a more positive experience at this appointment. My CSC's were very attentive, and happy this go around. This time the weigh in stationed was cleaned for us thoroughly as well. I met with RVT Tarrah and Dr James Barber (I believe that's how it's spelled) and they were both a breath of fresh air! Tarrah was such a sweet heart and so genuine. Dr Barber was so thorough with me, took the time to address all of my concerns as questions, and genuine to me as well. He also gave me more options for flea and heartworm medication for when my puppy reaches maturity! I am happy to say I will continue to visit Banfield and hopefully make Dr Barber one of the permanent Drs for my pet! :) read more

Staff is kind however I wasn't impressed by Banfield after my first experience. I took my dog for a check up and I signed up for the top tier wellness plan. I was interested in the wellness plan because of the unlimited visits and I also have regular insurance for accidents and illness coverage but I wanted to just have extra coverage on my dog especially for the services banfield specifically provides. The check up went great however first impression with them wasn't that good. They forgot my dogs medicine and called me around 6 saying that they forgot to give me the medicine for his allergies. I had already felt some type of way from the beginning because I was quoted with the 6 month plan for the medicine. It almost made me feel that they wanted my money especially since it was the first time my dog was going to take this medicine. So why pay for the 6 months when I don't even know how the medicine will react. And guess what he had a bad reaction to the medicine. How ironic. I went the next day to pick up the medicine. I gave the medicine to my dog and let's just say my poor dog went on a diarrhea field trip for a long time. I mean every 2 hours he had diarrhea. I know this is out of their control and dogs react to medicine so I understand. The part that makes me not want Banfield really started when I got a call days later and they're like hey have you picked up your medicine? And I'm like huh?? Do people not read the notes or something? I understand mistakes happen so I wasn't upset at having to go back the next day to pick up the medicine but why get a call days later asking if I got my medicine? It just seems so unorganized. I truly did not like the way they operate so I called and canceled the wellness plan. I had to pay $316 to cancel it and keep it mind I signed up for it last week on Dec 21st. I paid almost $700-$800 for basically nothing. The fact that there is a termination fee is ridiculous. I've canceled my policies with other insurances before and there was no fee. Especially when I barely had the plan for less than 2 weeks. There really needs to be a 30 day money back policy. It just feels like they care more about the money then my dog. Again the staff here is kind. I'm just more upset about their lack of being consistent and the amount of money I paid for a service that I barely even used and did not like. read more

This is my third visit to Banfield. I will admit that I had great reservations about using a "big chain" Veterinarian clinic, but my mind has been changed. My dog was acting very ill on a Sunday morning a few months ago, and Banfield was the closest vet to my home with Sunday hours. They got her right in, fixed her right up, and didn't charge me a fortune. It was love at first bark! I have since returned with one of my cats, and they were really amazing with her as well. I know, where vets are concerned, there will always be mixed reviews, and positive and negative experiences: So beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but as for me and my pets-Banfield is the way to go! read more

I have had 4 dogs enrolled at Banfield ever since I had one of them. Being in the military, I was fortunate to find a veterinary clinic thatbwould gladlg transfer records from one location to another. One of their best selling points is that they are one or the biggest chain where it is not a problem to transfer especially whrn you are assigned in a different military base. Today, i called to make the appointment to put Buddy, my Chocolate Labrador, put down... As my heart ache, I know that he has given me a good 14 years, 7 of those years were with my brother's family. I was able to be accommodated for tomorrow where we can all say our good bye.... Even though the plans have gone up, I trully appreciate the staff and the veterinarians who's professionalism exemplifies their commitments with our furry family members. I am grateful and always appreciative of that. I know that they can be busy as we want instant help. We never eant to ever go to the Vet for any emergencies, but I am definitely happy that they made me feel important and wants the best for my fur-babies. so with this I want to not cry but be thankful for the life of my Buddy! read more

IF YOU'RE THINKING ABOUT SIGNING UP WITH THIS BANFIELD LOCATION-- DON'T. We pay nearly $250 a month for our pets to be part of the Banfield network. At one point we could not have asked for a better home hospital than what we found with the Vacaville location. A big part of what made this place so special was the staff, but unfortunately, in recent times, they lost some of their best staff. (We miss Dr. Shani who left for San Jose) I realize they have grown quite a bit with the number of clients they now have, but you would think they would increase their staff to accommodate, right? Twice now I have had pets (Dallas & Hunter) that were ill and was told the only option I had was to drop my pet off at 8am and leave them there ALL DAY. One of the doctors would see them in between the other appointments sometime during the day. (Do you know how awful that sounds?!? Especially when your fur baby is sick!! Why would I want to do that and put them through even more anxiety??) OH, and other than dropping them off, the next appointment to be seen by a vet would not be until a week later (for Dallas) and 5 days later (for Hunter). Let me be clear, this is not a reflection of the current doctors at this hospital, but honestly we couldn't even get that far because this is how their front desk/reception is. Really felt like they have a "take it or leave it.. you don't like it, then don't make the appointment" mentality when you call them. Oh, but before you can even get that feeling, you must first wait on hold for 10-15 minutes. Here's a tip, if you have a membership with Banfield and your baby is sick, don't waste your time calling Vacaville. Call the Davis location (530)750-1056. You get to speak to people who actually care about your pets. If your pet turns into a shaking ball in the PetSmart parking lot... as an added bonus, the Davis hospital is a stand-alone (not inside a PetSmart) so there isn't so much chaos. read more
