Please do not take your pet here. We have been taking our cat for years and haven't had issues or so we thought. Took our senior cat in for a standard senior blood panel, ear cleaning, sanitary shave, and nail trim. We try not to bring her often because it stresses her out and she does not handle anesthesia well. Dr. Jassar suggested we use the gas instead as her anesthetic as he believed it might be easier on her. She has kidney disease and didn't handle the IV anesthetic well last time. And he even assured us he would use different ear solution for cleaning her ears since she had issues with that last time as well. Once all is done we bring her home and she seems as normal as she can be for a cat coming out of anesthesia. The next day or so she develops a severe head tilt on her right side as well as her eye going deeper into her socket causing her third eyelid to come out. She was also dizzy and wobbly beyond normal, this is similar but more extreme compared to what happened to her last time. We try to wait it out but eventually end up taking her back in as we are very concerned because she isn't eating or drinking. Dr. Jassar describes her as sensitive to anesthetic and ear cleaning. He then tells us she is probably inflamed from the ear cleaning since her right ear was pretty dirty. He also goes over blood work and how everything went for her. Her white blood cell count is high, he says it is probably from an infection but he isn't sure where it's coming from. He then checks her temp and notices she has a fever. So he gave her an injection of antibiotics, steroids, and b12. To help with appetite, swelling, and the infection. He then sends us home and assures us she should be better in a few days. Well a few days go by and there is no change in her at all. My mother-in-law ends up taking her back in because she is better at being assertive and wanted to see what he had to say as well. Dr. Jassar proceeded to tell her the same thing, checks her ears, and let us know he can't help us as we need to take her to UC Davis. He then gives us more steroids to take home to help with the swelling and appetite. My mother-in-law described Dr. Jassar as dismissive and rude of our concerns. It has now been about 3 weeks and our cat is still showing severe head tilt to the right, third eyelid out, and extreme wobbliness. So much so that when she went to rub her face on the wall (as she usually does) and she lost her balance causing her to knock her front canine out. At this point we were beyond frustrated and unsure was to do so we made her the vet appointment at UC Davis. Come to find at UC Davis when she had her ears cleaned with Dr. Jassar they ruptured her ear drum which the vet could tell right away by checking her ear. She then goes on to tell us that our cat has severe dental disease as well! All by just taking a look at her teeth. What is even more frustrating about all this is Dr. Jassar said he checked her teeth and that they looked fine. We are now happily working with UC Davis and finally getting our cat taken care of. I am beyond frustrated and angry with Dr. Jassar for either being negligent in our cat's care or straight up withholding information from us. I have held off writing this review to see if there was some kind of explanation for what was going on with her that would hopefully not be Dr. Jassar's fault but we now know what is really going on. Please do not bring your pets here, I will never be taking our animals back and spreading the word as well. read more

If I can leave no starts. I would. This is honestly beyond me. I've been a loyal customer of Vaca Valley Veterinary Hospital since 2015. My family trusted this clinic with our pets for years, and in 2020 I opened my own account for my two American Bullies. Between my family's pets and mine, we've been in and out of this office countless times. I've always been respectful to the staff and the doctor. I've never caused problems, never been rude, and I've always paid for my pets' exams and care. One thing I've consistently done is ask for written prescriptions instead of purchasing medications directly through the clinic. As many pet owners know, medications can often be purchased through pharmacies like Costco or Sam's Club for a fraction of the price. At first, the doctor had no issue writing prescriptions, but over time I couldn't help but notice he seemed less pleased whenever I chose to fill them elsewhere. Today I called to schedule an appointment because one of my dogs developed cherry eye--a condition I've dealt with before. The appointment was made without any issues. About ten minutes later, I received a call back from the office. The receptionist told me she had to cancel my appointment because the doctor had instructed her that my family and I were no longer patients of the clinic and that our accounts were to be removed. I was completely shocked. I politely asked why. I wasn't given a reason. I asked if I could speak with the doctor directly so I could understand what happened after more than a decade of being loyal customers. Instead, I was told the doctor was busy. When I asked again for an explanation, I was simply told my appointment was canceled, that I didn't need any further explanation, not to call back, and the call ended abruptly. That was probably the most disappointing part of this entire experience. After years of trusting this clinic with our animals, we were dismissed without so much as a conversation or a simple explanation. As a customer, that's incredibly degrading and disrespectful. After talking with my mom, we both realized the only thing that had ever changed over the years was that we started requesting written prescriptions rather than purchasing medications directly through the clinic. We both felt the prices being charged for medications were significantly higher than what we could legally purchase them for elsewhere. From our perspective, once we stopped buying medications directly from the clinic, the relationship seemed to change. I can't say for certain that's why we were removed as patients, but the timing certainly makes it difficult not to question it. This review isn't written out of spite. It's written because people deserve to know how we were treated after years of loyalty. If you're looking for a veterinary clinic, I encourage you to do your research, ask questions about medication pricing, and explore all of your options before deciding where to take your pets. Being turned away after more than 10 years without a single explanation is something no loyal customer should have to experience. read more

Best experience with a vet so far. I called and asked if they were taking new patients. I was able to get an appointment within a week. Dr. Jassar is very knowledgeable. He expressed some concern about my dog's weight. From my surprise at the sudden weight gain he suggested it's possible he could have low thyroid levels. With a senior blood test we confirmed his suspicions! Within weeks of being on the thyroid meds my dog is acting like he's 2 years old again! The staff at this office is amazing. They really and friendly and patient. My dog came here for a minor surgery. Part of that involves being crated. When I walked in to pick him up I heard howls. They were very tactful about his vocalness. Whenever bloodwork results come in I've received phone calls from Dr. Jassar himself explaining them and what course of action he suggests next. As far as I know I think he is the only vet at this practice so it is a very personable experience rather than getting passed through several different vets. To make things even better I think this vet is very reasonable when it comes to cost. For reference a nail trim was $30. That's the same price as the VIP Pet Care community clinics! I heard some other local vets charge $50+ for a nail trim. I highly recommend Vaca Valley Vet! Friendly and knowledgable. Easy to get an appointment. And they won't charge an arm and a leg. read more

HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE! STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS PLACE. I highly believe that Dr. Jasar either one, just blatantly doesn't care about you or your animals or two, isn't qualified to be a veterinarian. Or who knows, probably both. I will be reporting to the veterinary licensing board for malpractice, as he basically sent me home with a dying cat, saying that he was just panting because he was stressed. Even the VET TECH knew that wasn't the case and tried to call him back to look at him, but he insisted that he was just stressed. Two hours later, and my cat takes his final breath. I go to take him back to get him cremated, a little earlier than they opened, because the vet tech specifically told me to do so, but the lady with the dark brown hair and coach glasses gave me the nastiest look and rolled her eyes at me, when all she needed to do was open the door and tell me they couldn't help me yet. She should not be anywhere near a business that is required to help people/animals. SHE IS ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTINGLY RUDE AND SHOULD RETIRE. Not one person in there expressed empathy when I brought my dead cat in, literal insanity to me that they chose to be in healthcare. One of the worst days of my life. read more

I'm leaving this review to help other pet owners with anxious or reactive dogs make an informed decision. My dog is highly anxious at the vet, which I made clear ahead of time. He was scheduled for a vaccine appointment, and per the clinic's instructions, I gave him prescribed sedatives two hours before his visit. Because he is a high-energy dog, the sedatives had not fully taken effect by the time of the appointment. Rather than offering alternative solutions, accommodations, or suggestions, the vet chose to sent us away and suggested I take him to the mobile shot clinic instead. No options were offered such as rescheduling for the following day, adjusting the approach, or discussing ways to better manage his anxiety. The following day, my dog was noticeably more sedated from the medication, so I called the clinic to ask if we could bring him in at that time, believing we would have a much better chance of success. The clinic was unwilling to attempt to work with us. I also suggested "happy visits" -- brief, low-stress visits where a dog can come in, receive a treat, and build positive associations -- and was told they do not offer this. Unfortunately, this clinic does not seem equipped or educated in handling anxious or reactive dogs, nor willing to collaborate with owners to find solutions. If your dog requires patience, flexibility, or fear-free handling, I would recommend looking elsewhere. read more

My female dog had to have an emergency pyometra surgery and unfortunately my regular veterinarian couldn't preform the procedure last minute. I am writing this review to warn other pet owners about the lack of care at Vaca Valley Vet & the lack of caring when brought to their attention. On Monday, January 26th, I brought my dog into Vaca Valley Vet when they opened at 8:00 am. Over the weekend she had started to breathe hard & was having a difficult time getting comfortable. Dr. Jassar looked at her, told me her heart & lungs sounded fine & to take her home & give her Benadryl. He thought it was an allergic reaction. I bought the Benadryl & gave her one dose but there was no improvement. My instinct was telling me she was not OK & I decided to take her to the UC Davis Pet ER. I was standing at the counter & the admin checking her in asked a doctor passing by to evaluate if she was stable since she was being brought in for respiratory issues. The doctor looked at her, felt her chest, lifted her lips & said, "Her gums are blue I am taking her back." My dog was whisked out of my arms & receiving oxygen before I even finished signing the paperwork. Many tests were run but in the end the doctors needed to tap her chest & remove 270 ml (Over a cup of lymphatic fluid) from my 5 pound dog. She could not breathe because the fluid was compressing her lungs. So much so that one was partially collapsed. There is absolutely no way that her lungs & chest sounded "fine" hours before. Her care required 48 hours in the ICU before she was able to return home to us. The following Monday, I received a phone call from Vaca Valley Vet. They wanted to confirm a long standing appointment for the following day for my dog. I returned the call & a woman picked up the phone. I told her who I was & that I would not be bringing my dog back to them the next day or ever again. She said "Ok" & that was it. I waited for what I thought would be a follow up question but there was none. I asked her "Do you even want to know why?" To which she mumbled something & then hung up the phone on me. I would seriously reconsider taking any loved pet to this clinic & specifically to Dr. Jassar. The clinic may be fine for routine vaccinations & such but they are not equipped to handle - let alone diagnose - anything that requires a stethoscope & a pair of ears. read more

My cat was not feeling well. Took him in and he got 2 antibiotics shots in his shoulders. Took him home and noticed he was having trouble walking and one leg he was holding off the ground. Immediately went back to the vet. The vet literally pulled my cat out of his carrier by his shoulders with all his weight just hanging. Mind you he is a 20lb cat and the vet knew this.. plus he just had 2 shots, one in each shoulder. My cat is still limping 5 days later. Hope his shoulder is not permanently damaged. Time will tell. He should never have been pulled out of his carrier like that! read more

So I made an appointment for 4 pm. I arrived 11 minutes early to do paperwork. They said call once your done filling out the paperwork and we will have a room for you. So I did, then they tell me after filling out the paperwork in car that I now have to wait " a bit" for room that is taken. I know stuff happens but I made the appointment 3 weeks ago and confirmed on Tuesday and Wednesday before the appointment that I will be there. What is the point of making an appointment to just sit and wait 20 mins. 3 cars pulled up after I got here so maybe we all had appointments I guess, I just drew the short straw and had to wait. read more

We purchased a puppy from a breeder that required a vet visit within 48 hr. of receiving the puppy. I went in and splayed all the vet records from the breeder. It turned out the receptionist put the paper in the folder, and the tech never saw it. She informed me he hadn't had his first set of shots and gave him the vaccine while I tried contacting the breeder to double-check. They were apologetic for giving him the shot he didn't need but still charged me for the shot. read more

Doctor Jassar is the very best pet doctor. We've used him for nearly 10 yrs for exams, treatments, surgery, euthanasia, etc. Just an overall really compassionate nice man, he really knows what he's doing. He cares about each 'patient' and treats the owners with respect as well. Our most recent rescue started out as a nervous biter who was afraid of the world. Dr Jassar of course gently put a muzzle on him during the exam and treated him gently. Over 8 yrs our Jack has evolved into a gentle, loving playful dog. He encouraged us to not give up on him in those early years as he could sense what Jack needs. Vaca Valley Vet hours and rates are reasonable, if not lower than others. But most of all is that gentle caring spirit Dr Jassar conveys. read more

I highly recommend Dr. jassar and the Vaca Valley pet Hospital. I found him almost 12 years ago searching for a veterinarian online. And this review is way past due! Kai, my Cardigan-Welsh Corgi/ Pomeranian mix has been coming to Vaca Valley Veterinary Hospital with Dr. Jassar since the day after I adopted him at 6 months. The papers said that he was Corgi and Chihuahua. Dr. Jassar immediately corrected the breed mix and told me he was part Corgi. And that he could get up to 30 pounds. So much for 10-15 pounds. It's not a fancy office and is a bit older if that matters to you. The front office staff is always kind, compassionate, friendly, and competent. Kai gets nervous going to the vet. But I know that they're great with him so I don't worry. I moved several years ago. It now takes me an hour to get there, but I just don't want a new vet. I'm going to have a fit if Dr. Jassar retires. Kai recently had surgery to have a benign mass removed. Dr. Jassar is always conservative and thoughtful in his recommended treatments. Kai had had good health over the years and sees Dr. Jassar at annually at the minimum. The short list-teeth cleaning under anesthesia, foxtail removal, ear mites and fleas, and awful allergies. The prices are consistently reasonable. And they are consistently available when needed, though they are much busier -like all vets -these days. read more
