The prices are great and they always seem to have a bunch of stuff for reduced prices. It is conveniently located on the strip of Richmond/Camden Streets where lots of other bargains are to be found so why not peek in if your hot pot is on the fritz?

As I had been thinking about getting a stying wand, I decided to get that one, there and then. The sales lady establish that the wand in the window was the only one left and that I could have it for 35 EUR. Result! It's very easy to go to retail parks or shopping centres to buy electrical goods. But I think I will be checking out local small businesses like Gas & Electrical Centre Ltd first before I make a trip to the bigger chains.

I was shopping in The Park a few months ago, on a Thursday evening around 7.30. During my trip I had purchased a game from Smyth's and put it in the front pockets of my Jumper before proceeding to go into the computers department of Harvey Norman. So my friend and I were browsing around the shop for a couple of minutes, before noticing that we wore getting a lot of stares by the sales staff around the shop. One approached us and asked us if we required any assistance in which I replied "no thanks, we're just having a look around". Which is fine until as we are browsing and we notice that the staff, and what also seemed to be the store manager to who I to have learned is Colin Curtis, are quite obviously following us around and keeping a very very close eye on my friend and I. At this stage the shop was quite empty and I start to feel very intimidated about how the members of staff where around me so we started to walk towards the exit out of the computers department where the store managers was standing at the security fences, waiting for us to pass. We obviously pass it with no alarm, feeling very uneasy about the whole situation. As I'm walking away I turn back towards the store manager and say, from about 10 feet away, "is there a problem?". He walks towards me and says "what's in your pocket", so with no hesitation I take out the game and the receipt from Smyth's and say "I purchased that in Smyth's before I came in here". His only reply was "Oh sorry we taught you had one of our games in your pocket" and proceeded to walk back to the store" I have honestly never felt so embarrassed in my life. I understand to a certain extent why they taught what they did as it was showing through my front pocket but that is NOT how you should handle a situation where you think somebody is stealing. You never accused me of stealing but I would have preferred to be accused than surrounded and stared at. That is not how you treat your "customers" Harvey Norman. Luke

On the grand scale of real-life crises, Hoovers just don't feature, not even in a distant runner-up position. So I'm not proud to admit it but won't deny it: when my lovely old Miele slowly wheezed its way to an early grave, it proved the final straw in a litany of domestic failings (the marriage thankfully not one of them, yet) that had occurred that month - the oven, Easter Saturday, the day before seven people were due for Sunday lunch; the car, after too many weeks of that metal-on-metal sound that even the hard-core of stuff-mechanical procrastinators could no longer ignore; the bathroom tap; that effing leak in the extension roof that just won't seem to go away by itself - and I sat right down and cried myself a river. And it's not even like there hadn't been signs. It had been in failing health for months and hadn't received anything but the most cursory of nursing care, from the basic vital-signs manual: the on-off/check the bag/check for obstruction approach, followed by fervent verbal entreaties to just for chrissake finish the job one more time. The bank balance didn't even want to broach the possibility of a new Hoover, and it never occurred to me at first that a repair job was an option in an age of update, upgrade, replace. But bless them to the core of their electrical being, Glasnevin Appliances lives, and were as unfazed by my broken Hoover as a long-in-the-tooth A&E nurse negotiating a drunken waiting room. One health check and phone-call update later, and a treatment plan was outlined involving a pretty reasonable financial outlay and an as-good-as-new Hoover ready for collection one day later. So why not five stars? A small thing. In my book, a customer in front of you takes precedence over one on the phone, when you've already begun dealing with the customer in the shop. It's what the phrase 'Please hold' was invented for, but this is rarely observed in businesses, as phone-call diversion takes precedence over the standing customer almost always. It's a tad annoying. But on the grand scale, I highly recommend trying the repair avenue before consigning another electrical implement to the rubbish heap, and these guys are up to the job.

The first time was January 2012 and the sales where on at it was a fecking nightmare. Parking was almost impossible and you would have thought by the crowds thronging into Harvey Normans that they must be giving the stuff away for free. It was wall to wall with shoppers, the staff where trying to appease everybody and it was utter chaos. I was looking to purchase an American style fridge but I couldn't get adequate attention and the other shoppers where growing impatient at having to wait to be served so I left it on that particular day and purchased my fridge later that mid week closer to home. Today was a horse of a different colour. Midweek, afternoon shopping is always best, no crowds, no queues, plenty of parking, relaxed and considerably more staff to attend to your needs. Harvey Norman is a great place to shop, even if you're only looking to browse or you want to test the "expertise" of the staff with more technical queries. The spaciousness of the the store is the fIrst plus. Goods are well spaced out in the furniture and bedding areas, sections of full bedroom displays with made beds is a real classy selling point. I am in the market for a new bedroom so today was a great day to get a feel of what I wanted. I had plenty of time get a good look at the quality, no issue with giving the bed a good try out, or pull the drawers out and examine thoroughly and to take measurements. We where never hassled by the employees, (which is one thing about furniture shopping I hate, pushy sales persons trying to size you up to reach their monthly targets). The staff kept their distance and allowed us to browse occasionally and politely asking of we required assistance. We spent a couple of hours in the store browsing mostly and had a good rummage in the bargain bins strategically dotted about the place. The range is superb, and the prices seem to be competitive. Harvey Norman also arrange finance and you can get a quote or credit check done in minutes by the staff. Like all big boys I loved looking at the 60" Tv screens and the latest hi-tech surround sound systems, the computer section has hundreds of display items all in working order to try out. Knowledgable staff at the camera section where very informing and not sales pushy which is great. I really enjoyed my day off browsing here and i will definitely be back when I have got the bedroom floors down and the decor sorted.

Delivery of the appliance was promised between three and five days, so I was pleasantly surprised to receive a phone call from the merchant on day two, telling me that delivery would take place the following day between 8:00am - 01:00pm. Unfortunately, the day of delivery was wasted with waiting until late afternoon. Upon checking the status of the order on expert's website I was informed that the appliance has been dispatched. Nevertheless, I thought it would be better to get in touch with their customers services, who informed me that there was no knowledge of the phone call, which I did receive the previous day. However, unknown to them this phone call was recorded, so lying to me was just a daft thing to do. The appliance was delivered a day later but I feel exasperated that these merchants have nothing better to do but to mess up with their schedules and blatantly lie to their customers. No wonder I regret to have spent €1200 with this company.

While purchasing this iPhone which is already a very large sum of money she was encouraged to take out the partnered insurance plan (which was not cheap) should the phone suffer from mechanical, electrical or physical damage. After only a few weeks she already noticed how bad the battery life was for a new iPhone, she immediately went back to the store where she purchased the phone for assistance. The employees there were extremely rude making it clear it was "not their problem" although she had purchased the phone there. She worked separately with Apple and figured out that it was an issue with a rear camera which drained the battery. She also double checked this with an in store diagnostic. Apple suggested to go to the place of purchase (Harvey Norman Sligo) to get the phone replaced (EU consumer law and protection). My friend done that and was once again refused service. This year (May 2025), she returned to Harvey Norman Sligo with the same issue only this time the phone was entirely broken (it would not turn on). Harvey Norman Sligo refused to help stating they needed a case id to ensure she had actually had a diagnostic. However my friend accepted this and found the case id they were looking for, returning to Harvey Norman Sligo with the number they claimed would make it possible from her to be compensated a new phone as well as a lot of other evidence that proved her case. She was not compensated and they made her factory reset her phone causing her to loose all photos, memories, texts, social media platforms and important emails. She was told to wait up to 21 days which breaks EU law which states it must not take longer than 7-14 days to replace/fix a mobile device. As well as this she was refused by an employee to make a claim on her insurance. She has followed up with an email asking to be contacted by a Harvey Norman Sligo employee within 24 hours and she has been entirely ignored. Not only was Harvey Norman Sligo's employees extremely rude and unhelpful, they are also breaking numerous EU laws in this case. I would never recommend to anyone to purchase from Harvey Norman after witnessing what my friend did/is going through.

I was horrified this morn, half way through September, to hear an ad on the radio for Christmas…read moreparties... the first Christmas ad of the season... good god, where did that last year go? Anyway as I mulled over all things festive I happened to be on Sandymount avenue and there are the gates to Enable Ireland and their great little garden centre where I have gotten our Christmas tree for the last 4 years. I wander in, and realise that there is more here than trees and plants; they have garden tools and pellets, compost and oddly enough a selection of posters saying things like you 'don't have to be crazy to work here' yada yada yada. They also have a display of Ballydongan pottery (nope, never heard of it either) jolly nice as it happens. The garden centre is part on Enable Ireland so when you shop there you are not only getting some very nice greenery (or dodgy plaques/posters) but your cash is doing some extra good.... which is nice.

SUPPLIES!!! and my searches all ended up in tiny TINY little places where i had to dig underneath things to find other things and generally didn't find many things i needed at all. so imagine my thrill at finding Avenue Garden Centre. not only is it larger than a cupboard, they have loads of things. they have an entire area dedicated to ginormous bags of compost. another area just for pots. short of flying back to the america and going to home depot, it's the best garden store i've found within throwing distance of city centre. yes, i'm sure there are more magical places out in the burbs, but please people, i don't have a car and i don't fancy hauling 50kg bags of compost around on the LUAS. i'm sure you can understand. i was able to get there on DART, find the things i needed (and then some) and hail a nice lady cabbie (i know, right?) to get it all back to the house for me. luckily, i also had Husband with me to do the heavy lifting. oh i should also mention that the staff was also extremely helpful and friendly. i didn't feel like a complete retard asking them for help. that's a bonus in my book :)
