Well, unfortunately, while the service was nice, and that this place had a pretty decent atmosphere, and a lovely beer garden, I can't really say that it was one of my favourites. Mind you, it was a nice pub, and certainly a reasonable one to sit down with a beer, but with all the other great places nearby, it is hard to compete.

The place is really wide and open, with plenty of space, although I'm sure it would get packed out on a Friday or Saturday night. The food menu is also decent, but averages $15-$20 for a meal, so it's not cheap as chips, but not fancy restaurant either, although by the looks of the menu, the food is just a shigh quality. It's a great place if you're looking for the pub meal, but the pub atmosphere, but maybe also want a bit more of a contemporary styling. And you can stop off at the bottle-o attached to the bar and bistro and take something home; the staff there are really helpful to when you're not sure of what you want. List your range and general product type, and they'll take you for a browse.

However, being in Sutherland, it does make it a decent place to jump off the train and grab a beer. Actually, if you are travelling all the way out here you might as well just stay on the train. It's a great place where locals head to catch up with each other and more than likely have a meal from Charlies bistro. I really like this bistro. All options are good. You can choose from burgers, fish and chips, curries and I always find it hard to go past the lasagne. Don't get me wrong though, there's more on here and it's all good. The place doesn't get too over populated but if it does get a bit busy in the main area then there's a little courtyard plus another eating area inside. If the meal fills you up and you have to head home for a lie down, there's a bottle shop in this place so you can take back a bottle of wine with you. Depending where you are it might seem a touch out of the way but Well worth a visit, especially to the bistro.

At first it didn't look like much, just an old cruddy pub in the suburbs (though a pretty fancy suburb), however when I stepped out the back into the beer garden the atmosphere did pick up somewhat. The Sydney Park Hotel is one of those pubs that you've driven past, or walked past multiple times…read moreand thought "that looks pretty cool to check out", yet you never do because you're never in that part of town for long, just passing through on your commute. Well, that changed on Fathers Day, as I popped in with the wife, my old man and my kids for a well earned frothy chop or two, following an afternoon across the road letting the kids go wild in Sydney Park. The fist thing that struck me was just how homely and relaxing the vibe was inside the main bar. Not pretentious, no overly deafening modern music where you gotta shout to be heard. Just a really chill, laid back enviornment. It retains it's historical value with (clean) old school tiles on the walls, and you can imagine the setting being very similar if you were transported back to the 60's, 70's and 80s when the venue was most likely frequeted by the workers from the brickworks and various factories nearby. You could see the dodge, Neddy Smith, Roger Rogerson also drinking heavily in a bar like this. The pub has a great range of craft and standard macro lager beers on tap, and a healthy range of tinnies and stubbies in the fridges. Very much like most pubs in Newtown. My old man was pleased to have Guinness on tap. Sadly, didn't eat this time around (except for a bowl of chips) and they were very nice. The menu looks inviting, and with the kids loving the park across the road, I'm sure I'll find an opportunity to come back and try their well advertised counter meals. Staff were friendly, approachable and nice, just adding to the overall chill vibe of the venue. Awesome pub at the very southern tip of Newtown. I think it's practically Erskinville at that point, but definitely a place I'll come back to.
