Bar Bayeaux is such an unexpected and pleasant discovery. Came in on a sunny Saturday afternoon with a group of 3 at around 4:30 pm (which I'm now realizing we definitely came in too early before its opening time at 5pm - apologies!). When we came in, it was like stepping into a new time period. The vibes were dark, cozy, and pretty close to my imagination of what a bar in a pirate ship would be like. As the night went on, the crowd grew as they were drawn in by the live jazz band playing. The menu was extensive with so many types of interesting cocktails to select at $15 per drink. I enjoyed the Gouldian Finch (I liked it so much I ordered it again) and the Damsel in Distress.  Highly recommend if you're in the area and if you're in the mood for good drinks with great company, great staff and a great live jazz band. read more

My favorite neighborhood jazz bar in Brooklyn! Super intimate location and such a hidden gem. They have amazing cocktails, and we actually served one of the cocktails at our wedding that the bartender gave us the recipe for ("Note to Self", a rum old fashioned with walnut bitters)! My favorite night is to go on Tuesdays when they have musicians from the community in jam sessions, and the owner would make brownies to share. It was Saturday night no cover 2 jazz shows for the night. I came for the 930p show. Seating can be a bit tight. But the great thing is no cover. You are required to buy a drink it can be alcoholic or non alcoholic. I had the nephews note to self. It was a nice rum based drink. My bestie ordered some olives and the pickles that was very good. My cousin ordered a mocktail but didnt really care for the mix. The artist were really good. The owner was friendly. The decor is nice and they have outdoor seating as well. This is a new place where people who are really into or interested in jazz can go. It's super niche to the old school jazz clubs and they take honoring the performances and the music seriously, which can be appreciated. It's not really a place where you can talk over a drink. The service and cocktails were nice, everyone was friendly and prompt. Wouldn't come here if I didn't want to just sit and listen to the music. read more

High caliber live jazz with no cover fee, craft cocktails, and a chill crowd on a Friday night feels right at home in my beloved Prospect Lefferts Gardens. The outside of the bar is entirely unassuming such that you may not realize what lies beyond the front doors unless you were told or stepped inside. And stepping inside is very worth your while. The space is really cozy and narrow, with everyone's attention being held by the stage, replete with velvet red curtain and entire jazz ensembles playing on any given night. You can keep up with their schedule which they post on their website and Instagram. There's a performance pretty much every night. Our bartender was friendly and quite skilled. We enjoyed a great drink called Tin Tin Deo made with mezcal, tamarind, and angostura bitters as well as one called Winter's Kiss, made with apple brandy, dry vermouth, amaro averna, maple syrup, and rye. I'm impressed that they don't charge a cover fee and just rely on generous patrons tipping well and ordering lots of drinks. A place like this could only exist in a sleepier neighborhood like this, which I absolutely love. Love the ambiance. I'm always here for dimly lit romantic speakeasy. Great selection of spirits and wine. And their cocktail menu features drinks with strong character (if that makes sense). The bartenders are super nice, attentive and give you great feedback. And of course, they can personalize any drink for you. I've enjoyed the Trial & Error (mezcal, pineapple and lime, strong with jalapeño aftertaste). I also love their gin selection. The ginsin (Broker's, pamlemousse rose, ginger, lime, bitters) is a favorite. Live jazz here on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 7 to 11 I believe. The one time I came in, it was so crowded, we had to stand by the entrance. Other than that, the place stays pretty casual. Great place if you are a loner like me. First I would probably pass by this place if I didn't know it existed. It's a small store front with barely any signs showing that it's a bar. We went on a Friday night to hear some live jazz music and got lucky with open bar seating. The place is small so it's hard to find a table/chair. It's a very dark, cozy atmosphere. The drinks were sooo good. They have a very small food menu (I think just sloppy Joe's - lamb, chicken, or lentils- but we tried them and omg so good!). Hurrah! A wonderful cocktail bar opened up this past week. AND they'll have draft beer soon. I'm pleased about having a business on Nostrand, rather than an empty storefront that had existed for a few years prior. It's very pleasant that now I can simply go down the street to enjoy a night out instead of having to trek to other parts of Brooklyn, or go into Manhattan. The space has been extensively renovated. A beautiful wooden bar was made by the proprietor's brother. The walls are painted a deep scarlet color. It'll be a wonderful cozy place for a date night one day. There'll be a garden out back in the summer. Cocktails are $9 and there's a lovely assortment of various bespoke cocktails. We had the Taibo (a lovely sweet rum-based one), Trial and Error (tequila-based), and Chagrin Falls (several types of rum, less sweet). We can't wait to go back! read more

I was pleasantly surprised by the ambience and mixology. I ordered a inventive drink off the menu called the "How's Bayeux" then went off menu and got a Bees Knees with mezcal. Both were spot on. So glad they have a wide selection in offerings to make whatever you want. As for the ambience, it has low lighting that blends well with the jazz and sometimes old school Spanish music. You can tell that the bartender/owner really gives a damn about each and every drink he makes. 5 stars for the ambience as well. It's got a dark, intimate feel. Good place for a date. There are these large burgundy curtains that completely block out Nostrand Ave, making it feel like you've been transported to a cozy bar in New Orleans. They usually have live music performances during the week, otherwise jazz (+ other genres) music is semi-quietly playing from the speakers overhead. You can come here to catch up with friends or quietly turn up, but be aware that this is not really the place for a loud turn up/pregame. You'd just be out of place doing that lol, especially if a performance is going on. I love this bar! And I don't even drink. True story. I rarely drink. I was eating over at Cafe IX while a nice gentleman I met there told me about Bar Bayeux. I literally did not know about it's existence even though I live right around the corner! I was curious as to why on certain weeknights they were packed out the door. Turns out, they have LIVE JAZZ on Wednesday nights and other sorts of live music on Thursday nights! I finally made it here on a weekend (where they played non-live jazz in the background) with the bf and the vibe was intimate, cozy, dark, and just perfect. Great date spot, equally as great drink alone spot (which I ended up coming back for on my own). Too bad I'm moving out of the neighborhood. Otherwise this non-drinking gal may likely become an alcoholic with this local fave spot around the corner. P.S. I really enjoyed this bar. Stumbled upon it while taking a friend to Camillo and decided to stop in. They have a vast area of spirits, from all over. I actually had an red wine. I was able to taste it and he even opened up a delicious Côtes du Rhône for me that gave me all the feels. It had depth. It had body. It was delicious. Sorta like me . It was a nicely dim spot. Has a backyard. And it was cozy and welcoming. The one thing I think that's missing is more options on the menu. They have this crazy amazing selection of spirits but very few cocktail options on the menu so I wonder how they would create a cocktail with everything. It's almost overwhelming but in the best way possible. Because options are a girl's best friend! Can I get a heck yeah from the back? The front? The person washing their hands in the bathroom??? My boyfriend and I visited on a Saturday night at about 10pm. We were only one of two groups in the place, so there was plenty of space. We each had three drinks from their menu. The best of the bunch was a pineapple-rum-something that was easy to drink with a really nice flavor. All of the recipes were very expertly created and judging by the copious amount of bartending books behind the bar: someone puts a lot of effort into the recipes.
