It is usually a difficult reservation but we were able to snatch one for the next day. We were seated outside in a rather dark alley and of course, no views and in my opinion no charm. The old town in this time is so crowded that the whole dining experience was messed up by the constant flow of tourists. 2 stars because the portions were ridiculously a small and the prices on the high side for what you get on the plate. I remember the bar des oiseaux as a much better restaurant than what it has become , maybe just catering to the tourists without much attention to details. I will certainly not come back as we left hungry. read more

This was my first visit Bar des Oiseaux. It was stupendous. I had the lunch tasting menu for 20 euros - house terrine with a cornichon jelly, chicken breast with a wonderful mushroom sauce and gnocchi, and a tasty apricot with cream dessert. One of our last stops of the trip was the south of France, which you can imagine was a culinary delight! We didn't make any reservations ahead of time, but I had a list of places all in the same area that I wanted to try. Thankfully they had a later seating time which allowed us to grab a drink before dinner. This hidden gem is literally located down an alley, with a changing menu (all in french by the way). But luckily for us, our server was super sweet and explained each item off the menu in English to us. 1. This creamy mushroom "soup" with a perfectly runny egg with bits of bacon: It was so rich/creamy and divine (I was so tempted to order another) 2. We also went for the beef tartare : I found the aftertaste to be a bit weird, so I wasn't really a fan of this) 3. Chicken and mushroom, which was served in a little pot: The chicken was juicy on the inside however I found the flavors to be a bit lacking 4. The duck was absolutely heavenly, super flavorful and cooked tender in the center We had a great first meal here in Nice, just wished we had a bigger group and would recommend calling ahead of time to guarantee a reservation as we saw many unlucky patrons being turned away! read more

Ok , the place is just OK. Another case of a restaurant being over hyped. The grilled calamari was chewy in a bad way. Chef , please, zucchini flowers are delicate, and my palate senses that they are best enjoyed fried with a touch of delicate filling. These were stuffed to the brim with, I think, a too runny ricotta. Plus, the zucchini flowers were not fried ,I think they were blanched. I am eating my main course right now, and it's sort of soupy white fish and octopus combo with a hint of Thai chilling paste. This was not a restaurant quality dish in my humble opinion. Given how my meal was, I'm not gonna stay for dessert. I'll take my chances on some random gelato place. read more

I came here because of local recommendation as well as the reviews I had read. All in all, the food was decent but I was left dissatisfied and unimpressed. Highly sought after, this restaurant garnered a lot of attention. The place was booked but my partner and I managed to grab a table outside. We ordered rose, two different seafood plates, and an apple tart. The server was attentive as any other server we experienced in France. He translated a few options for us but was always rushed and not present. Unfortunately, the plates we ordered were very similar just a different presentation. I was not happy with the little amount of seafood in the plate. The thinnest pieces of calamari, 6 small muscles, and 3 very small pieces of fish. The highlight of the meal was the rose and the dessert. The place is worth a visit and I hope you experience better. I will keep exploring elsewhere. read more

Found this as a recommendation on Lonely Planet and was not disappointed! Fantastic atmosphere tucked within the magical streets of Vieux Nice. We chose to age outside but the inside was lovely as well. Great lunch deals! Our waiter was wonderful and helpful translating menu items to English for us. We both had ravioli (artichoke with poached egg in some magical sauce as well as the steak of tuna option) and we can honestly say that this was our best meal in France thus far! read more

Our annual return back to Nice reminded me that I hadn't written a review of our lunch here in June 2018. The food was beautifully presented, in perfect portions but nothing spectacularly delicious, and I love the atmosphere of this charming little spot. Our service was wonderful, helpful and cheerful, and the prices seemed reasonable for the quality. However, the credit card receipt we were presented to sign was 10E more than the bill we had been shown. The waitress (still cheerful) apologized and quickly handed us a 10E bill as refund. Hopefully this was an honest error but I do recommend checking the amount charged to your credit card against the bill. read more

Monsieur P and I adore this eatery. I would say "every time we visit the Cote D'Azur we dine here", but since only going twice I am more Madam Currie than Marie Antoinette. I had the pâté, made from every delicious bird who has the privilege of feathering a French nest. My handsome Hubbie indulged in the gnocchi. Pricey dinner, but worth every €. Dine here for the food & to hear the French speak to one another in (very) close proximity of a neighboring table. Until then I had never heard a conversation oscillate between politics, romance, & food all within 10 minutes. Truly a triste for the tastebuds. read more

Very tasteful and delicate food, great setting and decorations (especially paintings). The "patron" is cool and gave me the WIFI code to get some online connection for my phone, as G3 and G4 reception is non-existant in this restaurant. However, one of the waiters was obnoxious and rude, and I think that the manager should do away with this guy because his nasty remarks leave a bitter taste in the mouth of clients. Also, Le bar des oiseaux should make wifi connection totally easy and free to use, disclose its wifi password from the outset, hence ensuring that customers coming to eat here have all the services they need at their disposal. read more

Stopped in for lunch at the recommendation of a server from another local restaurant and had the most amazing meal ever. We shared the calamari with pasta starter, which was fresh and light. For entrees, we had the sausage with spaghetti (in the most delicious tomato sauce ever) with basil and the pork (so tender) with gnocchi. For dessert, we had the baked apple in caramel sauce with crumble. The service was fantastic and they were so nice to us even though we do not speak any French. We could not ask for more and quite honestly, this was our favorite meal while visiting in France. read more

We stumbled across this place after not being able to get into the restaurant we planned on. It was so serendipitous because this cafe was amazing. The drawings of famous chefs on their chalk board drew us in as well as their menu. Nice has a unique blend of classic French and Italian influences which the chef here did perfectly. We sat out on the patio which music playing as we sipped our wine and ate some of the best food I've ever had. The escargot and the pasta they have is fantastic. If we ever make it back to Nice, we'll be eating here again for sure. read more
