But here in Spain the locals are a bit sophisticated and they are fussy about coffee, fussy on the price of coffee (many local places sold a single cup espresso for 75 cents) so me opted for an espresso topped with cream. Yes fresh, thick, cream dolloped atop a very good espresso coffee. I got this for 1 euro 50 cents. I added an apple pie at just over a euro as I've not had one in a year or more. Our server was really helpful; he fussed over me an obvious foreigner to ensure that my order was delivered promptly, and in full. Good on him. I noted in passing on this trip, that where I come from, Mc D is largely staffed by students and young folk but here in Spain and Portugal it's mostly over 40/50. I popped into a Mc D in Gran Canaria to buy 12 macaroons just a few days ago and paid euro 7.5. The chairs remain uncomfortable with the five stars as is usual with me for coffee, WiFi and toilets.

I have no idea why there are complaints of portion size. Fact is, they serve correct portion sizes i.e palm of your hand. Not obscene American or Aussie portions which is the road to Diabetes and Obesity central with multiple comorbidity freeway. I had the gluten free french toast topped with fruit salad and sweetened slightly with maple syrup. Excellent. The chai unfortunately was a tea bag, not proper chai hence only 3 stars. Full after my meal but wished I could have fit in their excellent gluten free dessert options. If I resided in Gran Canaria, this would be my weekly treat.

We had seen Canary Wok from the highway before and were quite eager to try it. Sunday prices were up on the wall; about 15 euro for adults (more expensive than any other Chinese style buffet we have been to). I thought to myself before I reached the top level, that the food better be worth it. The employees were very nice even though there was a triangle language barrier. I asked for a high chair for my son and that was the first inclination of what we were about to have a problem with...cleanliness. Our waiter was trying to scrub down the high chair for a good minute before he brought it to the table; still it was dingy, and just looked gross. My boyfriend noticed that there were flies everywhere and I totally understood why. An enormous amount of food was sitting out when we arrived; the restaurant wasn't even busy yet. Usually buffets only make what is needed at the time, so the food can be fresher, but not this place. Full blown presentations were out for every single dish and yet none of the dishes were fresh. The food was ok, but nothing to die for and nothing was hot, just like warm. The sushi was basic although my salmon sashimi was perfectly fatty and delicious. Overall, we probably won't be going back though because my other half has a problem with unclean things and I have a problem with paying too much for something that isn't worth the price.
