I dropped in here twice while in Barcelona. Convenient to my hotel and the menu looked fresh and delicious. Salads, soup, tapas, main courses, fresh juices and a full bar. Both visits I had the warm winter salad with beets, sweet potatoes, kale and small nuts which was delicious. Soup was carrot one day and cauliflower the next. Our first night in Barcelona and across the street from our hotel is this amazing restaurant. It was beautiful, bright and open. Great decor, super busy with a fun vibe! We ordered the Ibérico Ham and Tomato rubbed bread twice in the same sitting It was so good it was hard not too! Also the tempura Asparagus. A real find. Terrific place. It's in an ally way nook that's just off La Rambla so no cars, buses, extra noise or soot. Indoor and outdoor dining. We did both. Warm, competent, friendly, smart staff. Service excellent. Food great. Atmosphere outstanding. We had a late lunch first time around. Ate inside. We enjoyed fresh and fried squid. Squid had gentle crunch on outside and soft sweet meat inside. Cooked just perfectly. Cold tap beer to complement. Enjoyed a delicious and entertaining dinner 2 nights later. I had a big bowl of warm mussels and Bhutan potatoes. My friend woofed a huge cheeseburger of all things. Large portioned burger was smashed and cooked to a perfect medium rare. He loved it. Burger with fries which seemed meh compared to the Bhutan potatoes. Ya gotta try the Bhutan potatoes. Sooooo good. Sliced potatoes some soft and some crunchy. Covered with gentle creamy and lightly cheesy sauce spiked with a few really hot red dried peppers. Be careful with those. Absolutely delicious. Loved the people watching and being entertained by several street acts, one after the other. Musicians, jugglers, magician. Dog helper. Families strolling by. I'm back in the US now and I'm gonna try to replicate Bhutan Potato recipe tonight. That's how good Bhutan Potatoes are at la Bar Lobo. I'm not sure if it's because this is my first meal back in Barcelona after coming from South of Spain where the food seemed so much cheaper, but everything seemed expensive for what you get. First thing we got were the garlic prawns. For 16.5 euros, I was expecting a bit more prawns. Taste was ok, I don't think it's worth the price. We then got the soup of the day pumpkin soup: it was your average pumpkin soup Steamed mussels: I would say Bar Lobo is only worth going for this dish! They give you a good amount of mussels that comes with a nice creamy sauce all for 11 euros. Andalusian-style calamari: for 15 euros I don't think it's worth it. It's good, but you don't get much for what you pay for. TDLR: I would only come back for the steamed mussels. read more

We came here on holiday and it was difficult finding something my family wanted because they are a bit picky- this was the best in the area of Las Ramblas. The food was delicious, I will say definitley get the patatas bravas and croquettas as appetizers. The only thing that sucked was two things; the service we had was not so great. The server kept getting distracted by a girl who cane to visit him and was not very attentive. My dad's burger also came out very late and I am one to wait for everyone to have their food; I usually dont get upset about it but we asked where it was and the server said ; "Oh he threw the ticket away let me make him make it again" like what? Having just arrived at our hotel, the Le Méridien and it was too late for lunch, but too early for dinner, we asked the concierge where to grab good food and she suggested Bar Lobo. This tapas place is right across the street from the hotel, so it's a simple and quick walk. We got there around 5PM and they were packed, but a table had just cleared when we walked in, so we got seated immediately. The staff took a while to come to the table, but once they did, we got excellent and very prompt attention the rest of our dining experience. We started with their Iberico Ham which comes with tomato bread and it was excellent! Best ham I've ever had! Next was there garlic prawns and they were so tasty, especially if you grab a piece of garlic and a pepper - yum! The potatoes bravas we bland and boring, but with hot sauce they tasted decent. Their tempura asparagus was also on the bland side, as the romesco sauce wasn't very well seasoned. They do have some nice wines to choose from and everything came out lightening fast. The bar/restaurant is centrally located and built out nicely. It can get crowded quickly which makes it not so nice for dining. The Tapas are small and rather unimpressive. Bar Lobo is a no no. Read a good review on a blog and thought we'd try out our first tapas in Barcelona. Absolutely not worth it. Food/drinks: Patatas bravas were edible but flavorless. Squid sandwich was large fried calamari rings in a bun with mayo (why??). Fried eggplant with honey sauce was so underwhelming (super thin slices, coated in flour, fried, covered in sauce, but almost flavorless). Even my sangria wasn't worth finishing! (But on the bright side: servings were large for tapas.) Service: Below average (and considering I've been in Paris recently, that's not a good review). We were ignored for a while before getting to sit, never checked on once we ordered, and it didn't phase them when we asked for a bill with a full plate and glasses. Ambiance: Outdoor seating allows for sunshine and people watching. It was nearly full when we got there, so seems to be a popular (tourist) spot. €32 wasted. Wouldn't go back or recommend. read more
