Fantastic place for a quick bite! Tapas are pre made on warmers, and they are all so unique!! waiter was very nice when ordering our drinks too. This place is very casual with outdoor and indoor seating. The taps we got were very tasty; each one was unique. Loved the salmon cheese one, as well as the mini egg omelette one!! Very affordable too! Need to come back and try more, as there was a huge selection!!
We were wandering the gothic quarter and stopped at the Barcelona cathedral. It was lunch time and we pulled out the trusty Yelp app to look for a tapas restaurant. Luckily this place was not to far as it was a few steps away from the cathedral and we got lucky and got seated right away. This place is pretty interesting as you serve yourself. You go up to the counter and select the tapas you want. Each tapas cost a different price ranging from $2.50 all the way up to $3. I love how you can visually see the tapas you want before placing them on your plate. There's a lot of choices and you definitely won't run out of variety. They even have vegan style Tapas. I think the majority of the tapas are cold but they also have hot ones as well. My favorite one was the blue cheese tapas. We also got a small red sangria and bottle of coke. I believe if you want to sit outside on the patio you'll have to wait. If you're hungry and in the area, I'd recommend coming here.
Bilbao Berria La Barra is located right outside the Barcelona Cathedral and is a touristy place to enjoy pintxos. These are Basque-style finger foods made of sliced bread with creative toppings, and they have a bar lined with a huge variety from which you can have your pick. Some of the pintxos I tried included a tortilla with a crab stuffing; smoked salmon on a black bread; cod with honey; and a squid ink croqueta. When you're ready to pay, the staff simply counts up the number of toothpicks you've gathered (which come in three different styles at three different price points). Everything was tasty though a bit expensive, but the atmosphere, location, and service were all on point.
Tourist type food, & location, minimal service received here. Located Right in front of the plaza so you have local entertainers who sing or play an instrument. That is what actually attracts most customers here. The atmosphere here casual & lots of conversations going on. Justino Waiter has a hard time communicating & once you place your order in, don't think he will return. Part of the problem is seems that he is handling all of the outdoor tables solo. There are at least 7 tables outside if not more. Started off with aceitunas/olives & the size was fairly decent & tasted good with garlic. Ordered a burger well done, the burger was literally raw fries were stale. Asked for ketchup & mustard, neither available. I carry bottle of mustard, mustard not a top condiment in Spain. The pulled pork looked like a glob on a piece of bread, with something melted on top. Not to mention that it is not common to add cheese to a pulled pork & not include that detail in the menu. We tried to tell the waiter the food problem & he didn't care. We paid & left The only thing would order here cold beer & olives. I don't think they would sit you for drinks only. Skip this place.
My favorite place to dine in Barca. The carne paella was phenomenal. It was cooked to complete perfection and was very flavorful. It's not listed on the menu, but you just have to ask for it! The sangria was perfect for the summer weather. The pitcher was perfect for sharing between myself and my friend. The tapas are also great for sharing plates. We had enough to take back home and snack on later. We came back twice and the second time I ordered the diced garlic sirloin steak. It was INCREDIBLE. Again, cooked just absolutely perfectly. Served with fries. I was very satisfied. I also tried the flan and it was delicious! Staff is friendly and attentive. There is also wifi inside the restaurant, which is always a plus for travelers!
Highlighted by an assortment of delicious pintxos at the bar, Bilbao Berria was our family's first venture into Basque cuisine. There were several items to choose from either from the menu or at the counter. Pintxos are basically Basque tapas with the ingredients skewered to a small slice of bread. They were served buffet style and priced per stick. There's a designated container on the table for the skewers which were tallied by the server at the end of the meal. The pintxos were very appetizing with the anchovies as my runaway winner and the baby eels a close second. They were so fresh and the pickled vegetables that came with them were amazing. There were meats as well, but I was mostly checking out the seafood. The bread did get a bit heavy, but there was plenty of walking for us to do so I welcomed the carbs. Our stay in Barcelona was short and it was awesome that we had Bilbao Berria for lunch. Athough the Seafood Paella did not live up to our expectations, the pintxos were outstanding especially the anchovies!
We love everything about "PINTXOS" as they are quick, affordable, and most of the time delicious. Bilbao didn't disappoint. We came in late for lunch 2:30 ish after checking out other restaurants on Yelp and found out they probably have closed for siesta. It was a typical hot and humid day and we really needed somewhere to rest after a long day of sightseeing. When we lined up outside the door, some elderly man in the outdoor seating area had medical emergency and ambulance came to take him away...yup, it was hot! Hope he is fine now. We waited about 10-15 mins and as soon as we were given a table, we eagerly went grab a plate full of pintxos. (Round 1) I have to say whatever we got were just average, after eating many tapas and pintxos at several restaurants already at this point of our trip. But overall we had a very good experience here and got a nice and relaxing break. We even thought about returning for late dinner since they close at 1am :)
Love this place. Walking by to another place but saw the crowd and had to check it out. I was a solo and there was another solo. The host asked if we'd like to sit together and we agreed. I was the newbie so my table mate showed me the "ropes." How fun. Kind of like spinning sushi. You walk around and look at the options and choose by "reading for the slice" and place on your place. You can have as many rounds as you like. You place the toothpick in the silver holder and viola. You get charged by the toothpick. Deliciousness, fun and I must say great service and great company. This was a win win. If there's a line, it goes quickly and worth the wait.
So this place got great reviews on here. I was really excited to try it, however I ended up disappointed. While they had a huge selection of delicious looking tapas, absolutely nothing was labeled so you had no idea what anything was if you weren't a local. With me being allergic to nuts and my husband being allergic to shellfish, not knowing what anything was was quite anxiety inducing. Out of probably 25-30 different tapas we settled on 4 that we felt pretty confident didn't contain anything we were allergic to. They were ok. Not great. My only other gripe was that the service was awful. I don't mean it was slow (we expected that and love that about traveling abroad), I mean the staff was not very helpful and acted like they couldn't be bothered.

Bilbao Berria is a must go to tapas restaurant when you visit Barcelona. The atmosphere is casual European with a flair. We enjoyed that not only you can walk around, choose and grab the tapas you want, they also can make most of there tapas gluten-free if you ask. My partner loved all the ones he tried, especially the sausage (hotdog). My favorite was the tuna tapa--so delicious!!! The server was friendly and the owner was helpful with guiding me on figuring out what tapas to choose GF. This restaurant gets busy, however worth the wait. Highly recommend! read more
Located near the plaza of the Barcelona Cathedral is a quiet tapas place serving some well crafted specialties. We opted for the peppers, olives, and fried eggplant starters to accompany the beautifully prepared dishes on the buffet. Most of the items were prepared on-top a lovely French style bread, with various cheeses, hummus, proteins, and deliciousness sprinkled all around. Sangria was well worth it being served in a fruit adorned pitcher was a nice contrast to the savory items. Desert was also well prepared with us finding an egg custard pie, light, and with a texture resembling a straight out of the bowl item. Service...is mostly self service, with coffee and beers being ordered from staff behind the bar. read more
A perfect tapas bar right in the main square of the Cathedral! All tapas are prepared to grab on the spot and sit down to enjoy. Staff is quick to greet you and take drink orders. It's a busy place but as expected in the city center. The variety of tapas is pretty good from local seafood, Iberian meats & cheeses or even vegetarian but it sometimes depends on when you arrive. They also offer a regular menu if you prefer something that is not ready made and is more expansive than tapas over bread. While it is reasonable in price, it can quickly add up if you are hungry! Tapas are approx €2-€3 a piece. Definitely give Bilbao Berria a visit simply for the experience. Ambiance: 10/10 Quality & Value: 10/10 Service: 10/10 read more

Avoid downstairs the tapas there are limited choices, you need to hike upstairs to get different ones, then go back downstairs to eat. I'm not a young person, for me it was a hassle which due to being crowded, I couldn't stay upstairs without a long wait read more

Delicious spot for tapas in the heart of the city! Very conveniently located near most of the sights. All the tapas were delicious as well as the wine! My husband liked everything he ate and he's a tough critic! This will be my first stop to grab a bite if I'm ever in Barcelona again! read more

Yum Yum Yum!! I wandered the Pintxos isle and my daughter ordered of the tapas menu. My god everything was fantastic. Reasonably priced and service was wonderful. Felt like I was eating at a friends place. Highly recommend. Will be back on this trip!! read more
Our first stop on our Tapas tour. Had a great beer and the tapa that I chose was decent. The system was unique and lots of fun. You just put your skewers into a receptacle and hand it to the waiter to see what you owe. Great place to start the night for sure. And a great location in the Gothic area! read more
Fun concept of walking around trays of various meats, cheeses, veggies on a piece of bread stuck by a toothpick and putting them on your plate. They count your toothpicks in the end to bill you. We also ordered patatas bravas, and it was pretty tasty! Inside of restaurant is super bright and clean, service is great. read more
We wanted pintxos. Our trip was cut short by a day and we knew there was no way we were going to get to try every thing we wanted to eat. Bilbao Berria proved us wrong. Actually we chose the place because it was across the street from the cathedral and it had started to sprinkle. It was really too early for dinner by Catalonia standards. But low and behold they had pintxos, tapas, traditional desserts, paella! We could have it all. And we did. We tried everything. I think the warm pintxos were my favorite. The service was good. Sometimes you had to wave as most people are opting for the self-serve pintxos bar. But they were happy to take our order. And yes, it is tourist friendly--photos on the menu and what not. Not ever tourist friendly location is a tourist trap. The food was great. There's a chef back there creating these yummy combinations. Kudos to him for doing it in a way that opens a new world of food to curious tourists. We had garlic steak, crab and cheese, ham, cheese puffs, sausage, croquettes, octopus, Catalan cream. We tried as much as we could. We drank wine and just made little piggies of ourselves. The prices were really good for what you were getting. I expected our bill to be much higher than it was. I wish we had a place like this in Dallas. read more

Authentic tapas, great sangria, and a very friendly staff that will sway you in the right direction. Went 3 nights in a row while visiting Barcelona. Every night we tried something different, like the carne paella (highly recommend). The atmosphere was awesome, we were never rushed. Staff took care of us, made us feel right at home. We couldn't ask for anything better. If in Barcelona again, it will be a repeat. read more
A nice tapas lunch stop this was for us. Just a couple of city blocks in from the vibrant and bustling La Ramblas, and feet away from Barcelona's historic Cathedral, this was a larger and more upscale tapas place than the typical small and homey mom-and-pop tapas restaurants. The selections were extensive, and the setting very comfortable with spacious seating and WiFi etc. I had forgotten how they kept track of the order cost (I've been in Spain numerous times in the past on business), but in this place (and probably more others), it was by counting the toothpick style of the dishes that the server observes on your table after meal completion. Overall, a very nice and convenient tapas stop for any tourist here anyway. read more

We stopped here before taking a tour and I'm glad we did, what a fun experience! The food and drinks were yummy. We sat outside. You go inside to pick your pintxos and the sticks determine the price. You can order some tapas from the menu, we had the garlic shrimp. There were so many to choose from, I enjoyed them all but weren't sure which ones I had. A few you can guess and we had a local friend with us so she was able to tell us what was what. It was a great time for us! read more

They used to be located directly below our apartment in El Born. When we arrived at our apartment this past year, I had a mini meltdown when I saw a merchandise store located where Bilbao Berria was supposed to be. A quick search on yelp, and I found them here. While the other location was waaaay more convenient for us, the offerings remained the same here.We always manage to collect a hefty amount of toothpicks. The sangria is good too. Not much has changed, except the location. read more

My husband and I popped into this pintxos/tapas bar while walking around the area and realizing it was time for a snack. It was late afternoon and there were a decent amount of customers but I wouldn't say it was crowded. We were seated inside and our server explained how everything works: take whatever you'd like from the pintxos bar and place the toothpicks in the jar on your table. Different style toothpicks represent different prices. I went up first and put together a selection of cold and hot pintxos to take back to our table. Meanwhile, we also ordered some patatas bravas and garlic shrimp. I'd skip the shrimp in the future; they were average at best. The potatoes were pretty great, though. The pintxos dishes were not labeled and, while some were clearly identifiable, a lot of the hot dishes were more of a mystery. I asked the woman behind the counter about a couple different items and she seemed totally annoyed by me. Some signage would do wonders here! My favorite bite was the chorizo with manchego and pepper - of course, it was also the only thing that didn't get refreshed while we were there. I'm between three and four stars for Bilbao. Our server was very pleasant and super quick with anything we needed, yet I feel the experience overall was a bit more three star than four star territory. read more

Situated in the shadow of Catedral de Barcelona and a short walk from La Rambla is this casual and modern Basque diner serving primarily pintxos. The main differences between tapas and pintxos are tapas are Spanish or Catalan and pintxos are Basque. In addition, pintxos almost always is pierced (which the word pintxo was derived from) with a toothpick or skewer and most ingredients are served on top of a piece of bread. Bilbao Berria has a few locations. They tried opening one in London but the idea just never really caught on there. Most of the items here are what Americans would consider as lunch items; many cold items with a few hot items available. All the delicious looking foods are displayed at the long counter/buffet. You would just take a plate and pick out what you want. The bill would be determined by counting the number of skewers you have collected; so, don't throw them away thinking they are just trash. There are a few hot dishes, such as paella, you can order off of a short menu; but, I'd recommend sticking with what you see on the counter. Paella is not one of their strong suits. There is just something really enticing about a large display of food. I felt like I need to try everything. However, with most things served on top of a piece of bread, you will get filled up pretty quickly. read more
We were kinda' lost and hungry. I saw this place, checked the Yelp reviews, and in we went. It was packed. Just one small table left. Tapas galore. Even though there were a lot of tapas, I wish there was more variety. You pick your own tapas from the counter and pay by the number of toothpicks you accumulate. Pretty good system. Seemed to me most of the people there were locals that evening. That's always a good sign. We had a few tapas, which were all good, and were off to our next dining adventure. read more
