They were very helpful to me when I called them to arrange to drop off and pick how to prepare the meat. This was the first time for me going to a butcher and they were very helpful. I could tell that they were upselling me a bit, but that's kind of what I wanted. I wanted to go all in on the great ways to prepare the deer since I don't do it very often. If you do, then I'd recommend you asking them to send you one of their write up sheets. It has EVERYTHING on there for the deer and it would be easier to just work you way through the order form. Unfortunately, I couldn't find one on their website. Later, I grilled some of their bacon wrapped filets and they were awesome. The beef/venison was great, tasty and healthy in sloppy joes. About the time they said it would be ready, it was and they left me a message. When I called back they were very accommodating on scheduling a pickup. They are blocks of ice when you pick them up, so just put them in your cooler and away you go. The guy working when I picked up was very nice and helpful. It was in, pay, out and done. There were many mounts waiting to be picked up and they all looked exceptional. I think I have found my spot if I need to bring something in. Pro tip: Get some of their Chorizo!

Unfortunately, I dropped off a once in a life time buffalo with them in February 2023 to have a…read moreshoulder mount done as well as the backhide tanned. I brought the hide and head from out of state. Which cost a fair bit of money to transport, being that it's a few hundred pounds. I got it to the taxidermist and processed with them. I requested and paid for half up front of a shoulder mount for my buffalo, and for the remainder of the backhide to be tanned. The animal was taken from me, and a few months went by before hearing anything from them as expected with any taxidermist. When I did get contact, they said things were going good, and I asked when I should expect the backhide to be returned from the tannery, since they send their backhide off to someone else to tan. They said it had just been sent to the tannery and they would keep me posted. A few more months pass by, now Jan/Feb 2024 and I reach out to see about the back hide, and get the same response, "it's still at the tannery and we will reach out when it returns" In March of 2024, I get a text that my bison is complete, and a bill in my email. I once again ask about the backhide to see if I could pick up both at the same time. (The backhide normally takes much less time, not the whole year+) and while waiting on a response I check the bill in my email. In the bill it says "-BH was never notated on the tag when we took animal in-we tossed the bh due to this." I then reached out again asking about this, and they confirmed that they had indeed thrown away the backhide from my once in a lifetime buffalo, and that they were sorry. That was the extent of what they said. "Oops sorry" I asked them when they had found out. And turns out, they figured out what they had done weeks prior. Instead of reaching out in the moment and explaining what had happened. They notated it in the bill and let me find out that way. Which was a slap in the face on top of losing half of my Buffalo. I wanted further explanation on how it had happened and was put into contact with the Owner, John. He told me he was just informed of what had happened and was apologetic. We talked 3 different times about the situation. But nothing came of the talks besides offering me 10% off, which covered the tax. I have been on the fence for a while on whether I should post this. But have finally come to terms that maybe this review will make them make a change, and prevent what they did to me to others. What really got to me was that when I called for check ins for months before, I was told they had sent it in, and got it processed. Then all of a sudden it was "thrown away the week they received it." Double Nickle Taxidermy is an established business going into their 9th year of operation. Mistakes that huge should not be made.
