This was a solid lodging option when we needed to stay near Houghton for a reasonable price. Beds were good, room decently clean, friendly staff. You don't have many choices of where to stay in Baraga, but this would be my suggestion. I have stayed here several times, often extending my stay. There is a great restaurant and bar just off the lobby and area to just relax and read outside of your room. The hotel is a bit dated on the inside, but this is no Hilton. It's just a very well done Inn that is the size of a hotel. The customer service is also pretty darn good. read more

Enjoyed both our stay and the food at the restaurant. The hotel is conveniently located off US Hwy 41 so easy access for travel with a nice view of the Keewenaw Bay. The hotel is a bit outdated but certainly cozy. There weren't enough outlets - we ended up charging our phones in the bathroom. I've never stayed in a hotel that had a sauna so that was a unique perk. The food scene in Baraga is limited - don't sleep on the tater barrels! I definitely recommend them. I wasn't sure what we were getting but I was pleasantly surprised. Think tater tot filled with cheese and bacon - yum! The build your own pizza was also good. RUN - do NOT walk - and check this place out. Beautiful lake views, VERY personable Chef -- get the make your own burger (6oz was bigger than we thought it would be) and was cooked to order (cooked exactly as specified). The beef patty was seasoned with some sort of magic - it was really good. Chips were standard with the burger, or fries (which we already had for an appetizer), so I got the onion rings. We were so full -- all four of us took home leftovers. We should have ordered dessert. The dessert menu had Tiramisu and two other choices. Too full... Wait... wrapped cinnamon rolls w/frosting? We're thinking that it will be similar to a very famous U.P. restaurant/bakery that is on top of a Hill nearby. Wrong. THE CINNAMON ROLL is AMAZING. I will request any person who travels through the area to stop in and buy as many as possible for me. The dough has a pleasantly sweet flavor that enhances the spice, not masking it. I tasted a hint of almond extract - was it the sugared filling? The frosting? I don't know, and I am too busy scarfing this down so that I don't have to share it with anyone. Go get one. read more

My family booked a room for Thanksgiving. We stayed here back in May 2023 and had a pleasant experience in the past. I waited to post this review in order to give the manager a chance to make things right since Conveniently there was no manager available until that following Monday. But unfortunately the Manager has yet to return our call. Before our stay we called and had asked for a Handicap accessible room and also let them know that we have a Service dog and needed a roll away bed the clerk said everything is ready for you when you arrive. Although when we arrived our accommodations we requested were not ready at all. We didn't even have a Handicap accessible room? Although the The Lady at the front desk did fix the room for us and got a roll away which they charge $10 more. Mind you it was only 4 people. My father, Husband, Daughter and myself and of course our Service dog, (as my Husband is a declarated Veteran) as we were visiting family in Lanse. We just needed the room for sleep. Besides taking our Service dog out to do his business when we arrived we didn't leave the room as it was late when we arrived. We just needed rest for the trip home. Unfortunately we were disturbed at 9am by the front desk calling. The Woman who I found out later her name was Lori Called and told my Husband very rudely and unprofessionally, " You need to get up right now and pick up your dogs poop in the hallway!" And he said we haven't even been out of our room since we were asleep! Our room was across from the elevator since we requested a Handicap accessible room and my husband looked and several doors down there was a poop. My Husband did pick it up although we are positive that it wasn't our dog because he is a Service dog for one and two we never allowed him off leash and hadn't left the room since we were asleep. And we are not irresponsible dog owners. They claimed that we were the only guests who had a dog. I said that you know of!? I work at resort and know all to well how people will sneak a dog in the room when not allowed. And this establishment only allows Service dogs. On top of everything when we were checking out they also said they needed another card to pay for the room? Because the card we had was not working. My husband pulled up his banking app right there and he said its because you already charged my card! they argued that it was only an authorization. But it was for the amount of the room. We still had to give them another card. It took 5 days for the money to be returned to the original card. Which was a huge inconvenience for us. Since we were charged twice. Also they really need to deep clean their vents as we all were sick after our stay. We will never stay here after this experience. So unprofessional and unpleasant. read more

We stopped in on a Saturday evening. The restaurant has an old school feel to it. The staff were friendly and directed use too the restaurant. It was seat yourself. That was nice. The bartender was nice and drinks were reasonably priced. I ordered the special of half rack of ribs. It came with mashed potatoes and gravy, vegetables, salad bar, and soup. The salad bar was standard fare and about what I expected. Enough to make a solid salad that my wife and I shared. I chose the chicken noodle soup. It was a small cup. When my meal came I was shocked at the amount of food. The half rack of ribs was pretty large. They tasted good. The meat was tender. The mashed potatoes and gravy were really good. They were real potatoes. Definitely delicious. I was a bit disappointed in the vegetable medley. They looked like the obviously frozen vegetables that were reheated. My wife's French dip sandwich was huge also. The French fries could use a little work. Perhaps being done a bit more. Overall, we spent about $25. Waitress was nice. Atmosphere was chill. Food was more than solid. A little better french fry, veggies, and chicken soup would have bumped it up. I would eat here again. read more

We stayed here last minute on Friday night. We came for the casino and were going to stay there, but due to a water issue the hotel wasn't available. The front desk was very accommodating when we called and assured us they would have a couple rooms when we were done. When we came in, I assumed she may be annoyed due to some of our party being very spirited and spunky after a night of fun. She instead laughed a long with us. We asked if there were any gas stations open for late night snacks. She said unfortunately not, and even offered us her lunch Too sweet! Of course we declined and thanked her. She continued to go above and beyond! The next morning we experienced great customer service and friendliness from the front desk and the cleaning staff. Of course a lot of things can use updating at this location, however the service makes this a 5 star stay! Thank you again! read more

Ever since the lakeside restaurant has been under new management, it has been a great place to grab a bite to eat. By far the best soups in town, they usually have a different soup of the day, plus chili daily. The service is fast and friendly, and the place is usually very clean, (although the occasional dirty glass or fork, but it's not terribly big of an issue) and has a great view of the lake. On my last visit, I got a cup of chili, the Reuben sandwich, and the homemade fries. My chili was nice and hot, and had great flavor with big chunks of beef and tomato. Not too spicy, it had great balance. When my Reuben and fries arrived I was very pleasantly surprised. It was piled high with meat, and toasted nicely with melty cheese and just the right amount of sauerkraut. The bread was crisp, but fresh and the meat was very tender and flavorful. The fries were nice and crispy, with a soft interior. They were not salted, so you can add your own. (a little better for people with high blood pressure) Our waitress was quick and very friendly, and overall, our experience was great, and I will be back again. read more

On the bright side, my room came with 2 irons & 1 hair dryer, so there was no shortage of electrical appliances to bring in the bathtub to brighten my stay. On the down side, this place seems like it has not been updated since the Carter Administration. Based on this fact, the summer rates are rather high ($150+/night when I was there). The rooms smell kind of weird. The a/c didn't work well. The beds were old & uncomfortable. The place seems to be very popular with bikers & has multiple, swinging wooden benches in the backyard facing the lake. So if you & that special someone riding on your b*tch seat enjoy swinging, this romantic getaway is right for you. read more

Just drove 7 1/2hrs with 3 tired kids to just stand in the lobby and can't find a worker.... I even put an estimated arrival time on our reservation and was only 10mins off of that. I loved this hotel it was clean staff was amazing! Beds were comfortable, showers were clean, Resturant was good with a nice view of the lake. Pool and hot tub were clean we were the only ones in there for awhile so that was nice. A/C worked good, cleaning/waitstaff crew super nice and very professional and gave us pointers on where was the best spot to go see and visit. I'll definitely be coming back. This is not a high end Marriott, however it was very nice. The room was comfortable and very clean. I read the poor reviews and did not experience any of what they did. I only had one breakfast and it was the oatmeal. I can't comment on the restaurant as all I had was the oat mealy and it was just that, oatmeal. The pool and hot tub are nice. The sauna needs to be hotter so you can create more steam. Overall I had a good stay. Not sure where else you'll stay in Baraga. I had coworkers that left the casino hotel and came here after one night there. read more

This highly affordable place is under a new owner and that is a gift to this community. The new chef is excellent. My pulled pork sandwich was as good as it gets for around $8 as was my husband's rib steak around $14. Our server was equally wonderful. We were there with a large group and she asked us if we would like separate checks (something that makes things a lot easier for the guests). The only down side was we were there Sunday and there seemed to be very limited staff and our orders were delivered by couples and about 20 minutes between the first and last serving. However, we are close friends and this was not a big problem because when we received our dinners they were fabulous. I forgot our server's name but she was exceptionally thoughtful when one of our friends spilled water all over our table. She quickly helped make our table dry and acted as if this was not an inconvenience, even though it was obvious she was very busy. Looking forward to returning to this wonderful new favorite restaurant. The view is lovely too. read more

It's not a horrible place, but I don't think my family and I will eat here again. We came to the UP for the 4th of July and ate here because we're staying in the hotel. The menu was paper, which makes sense because of Covid, and there wasn't much to chose from. I ended up splitting a 12" "thick" crust pizza (which was the thinnest thick crust I'd ever seen) and asked for some veggies on half of the pizza but once we got the food, my veggies weren't there. When we asked about them, they said they didn't have any, which wasn't a big deal because the pizza WAS good, but it was a little inconvenience cause we still ended up paying for the veggies. I did end up getting a complimentary cheesecake because of this and have yet to try it. Other family members ordered a grilled chicken salad, which was pretty big and overall good, but they said the chicken was pretty dry. The wait staff weren't the friendliest, but they weren't blatantly rude either. Just my experience! I'm sure it's a different experience for everyone. read more

Last minute stay and we weren't disappointed! Staff was very nice. Exceptionally clean. We had a room overlooking the bay ... gorgeous! Bed was very comfortable! Nothing amazing and nothing bad. The only real complaint I had was the housecleaning wasn't really that great. Went to visit my son at MI tech after driving up north from Chicago. In Chicago I stayed in a luxurious Hyatt, and my expectations of this hotel were not high after that. I was so happy to be wrong. The rooms are not lush, they are homey (if your home is in the 1980's at your grandma's), and they are comfortable. The bathroom has a large tub that's just like my mom's at home, there's tons of room, and the toilet is old school with a giant 1970's flush (not the sprinkle of water in the environmentally friendly ones of today.) There aren't any fancy soaps or lotions, just basic bar soap and I think a sample sized lotion. I had my own so it didn't matter. The bed was soooooooo comfortable that I did not wake up one time all night. When I went down to check out, the breakfast smelled amazing, and reminded me of being on vacation up north as a kid. The people working there at night and in the morning could not have been any nicer. This room also cost 1/4 what the Hyatt cost, so I need to check my bougie expectations at the door next time. read more

I was very impressed with every aspect of this hotel and have paid double the price for places not nearly as nice. For about the same price we found a motel down the road and this place. The hotel itself is an old Best Western that needs serious updating in the rooms. Our room, Room 206, had nasty water stains on the ceilings, and an obvious patch from having a pipe leaking. The two queen beds in the room did not match at all -one was way too hard (sleeping on the floor would have been the same), and the other was alright, but both need replacing. The food in the restaurant was edible, but lacked flavor. The waitress was VERY sweet, though. Rest assured, next time, I will stay in Marquette or even the casino hotel before stating there. read more

The restaraunt is so slow that I am amazed they try it at all. I get the impression they cook each order to completion as they have told me that after 40 waiting for my meal that there are still a few in front of me. Finally got the order. The wheat toast is now white. The cheese in the omlet tastes like cheese wiz. Had to find my own stick stir for my coffee as utensils took 1/2 hour to come. The hotel is a little on the rude side as we were warned that if there were any strange odors they will charge us $500. Sheesh, they make us feel like they are doing us a reluctant favor by letting us stay here. read more

All in all probably a 4 star but when me and my mother went to get ice cream about ten minutes before the restaurant closed nobody was there and a lady came out at closing time and made some rude remarks towards my mother, and that made me infuriated, however we decided to keep our cool. We went here because of the reviews, which must have been written by relatives. Customers deserve an honest review. We wanted whitefish and walleye--fish native to the area, which no one around here seems to serve. But Lakeside had them. What a disappointment! The presentation was bland--and so was the flavor. Frankly, it looked like they had dropped the fish and then hastily put it back on the plate. The skin was crumpled up and placed next to the fillet. The "chef's vegetable" was frozen corn. Honestly, it was like I was in a school cafeteria. 3 pats of butter were hidden under the corn and potato, and were already completely melted. I poured the butter into my potato from the little foil packets. There was no lemon served with the fish, and the tartar sauce was nothing but mayo with gherkins cut up into it. For pete's sake, you can get good tartar sauce recipes on the internet. There is no excuse for such poor food. Don't go there. It's worth the drive up to Houghton for better food. read more
