I found Todd's manner during our conversation to be arrogant and dismissive. I can certainly tolerate confidence--even arrogance--when it is accompanied by a clear command of the issues. In my case, however, I had provided a detailed written summary of a credit-card and credit-reporting dispute, including issues involving CRA disputes and reinvestigations, continued derogatory reporting, and alleged misrepresentations by the bank. When I tried to discuss some of those issues with him, one of his responses was simply, "I don't know." What bothered me most was not that he ultimately chose not to take the case. Attorneys are entitled to decline matters for any number of reasons. What I would have appreciated was a straightforward explanation that the matter was not a good fit for him or his firm. Instead, I came away from the conversation feeling that my concerns were dismissed and that the explanation for rejecting the case did not square with the discussion we had. I also found his tone unnecessarily condescending and disrespectful. A prospective client who has taken the time to organize and provide substantial documentation deserves a candid and professional response, even if the answer is simply, "This is not a case we can help you with." I appreciated Todd's initial responsiveness, but based on my consultation experience, I would not recommend him.
