I'll give it two stars for the view. I would suggest that this would be an ideal spot to share some drinks, socialize, and enjoy the breeze coming from the lake! (Snapchat worthy to catch the sunset) However, the food that is served here is very low quality and extremely overpriced. Our party of 8 ordered a few appetizers to start us off. We got calamari, saganaki, and nachos - however, there are many things that went wrong with the starters that we ordered. First & foremost, the calamari was described to be "classic & crispy" but it was nowhere near crispy, and came out warm rather than hot. The saganaki was suppose to be put into flames to give off that fried cheese look, however our waiter couldn't light it up (mans kept burning his finger LOLZ) and as a result, we were basically just given a block of cheese that was barely stretchy (disappointing af) As for the nachos? We didn't even get it until the end of our meal because our waiter forgot to put in the order, and we had to remind him. When we asked to cancel, the server said the nachos were "on the way" but didn't come out until 20 minutes after. Very unprofessional for a restaurant that gives off a bougie-esque feel. And then there comes the mains. Wow, how disappointed each of us were when we received our souvlaki dinners. My friend ordered the beef tenderloin and asked to have it done medium rare, but received it well-done so it was very tough to eat. The rest of us ordered the chicken souvlaki dinner - the chicken and veggies tasted decent. HOWEVER. I kid you not, the rice felt AND tasted like Uncle Ben's - hard & flavourless. But what was worse was the fact that the rice was undercooked, when we bit into the rice it would crumble apart. We told the waiter about the issue, and he told us that he would address the issue to the chefs. 10 minutes later he comes back and says that's how the rice is suppose to be like, lel. We were not satisfied, and he caught on. Another 10 minutes passes, and the waiter comes back with bowls of rice. This time, it tasted way too soggy but still undercooked. Our server was friendly, which we appreciated. However, the service was extremely slow. Every time we asked for something, it would take about 15-20 minutes for him to bring it to us. Not to mention, by the time we were seated there weren't as many people there. *The only dishes that tasted okay were the slow braised Ontario lamb shank and the penne with grilled chicken. If there is one world to describe this food it is AVERAGE it's not good enough for them to charge the prices they do but what you are absolutely paying for is the view and ambiance. You can sit on the patio and overlook the beach while live music plays nearby. The drinks were also average in my experience. We got the kalamari to start my girlfriend got the Atlantic salmon and I the lamb burger. My burger was nothing special, sort of tasted like a pile of mush meat on a cheap bun with tzatziki sauce, fries were decent. Her salmon was over cooked and under seasoned but the paste it came with on the plate was quite nice. You can't really mess up calamari so that was good. All in all I would go back but for the view not the food. read more

Went on a Tuesday at lunch time to beat the crowd. Had waited so long to be able to go here, it was well worth the wait. Service was efficient and very friendly from the time you walk in. Had the beef souvlaki meal, the beef was cooked to the medium that I requested. Nice greek salad served before the meal. I've been here for a couple of work functions, once during lunch, and once immediately after work. They have a decent volleyball setup here. The best thing about this place is the view, because its right by the beach. So on a nice sunny day you can sit out on the patio with beers and its great. On June 9, 2016, m girlfriend and I had a double date with an old friend from Alberta. We all agreed to have dinner somewhere none of us have been to. Barangas was the out come of that. We made reservations the day before and we're pleased. Come the day of, we were asked if we wanted a patio or dinning room so we chose the patio. It was a chilly night but we wanted to be able to see Toronto on the other side. The menu is large and long due to everything being in the one menu. First ten pages are of alcohol and cocktails. Pages 10-15/16 are your menu and then the final last few pages comes to your desert and kids meals. My girlfriend ordered Chicken Supreme with a Pepsi and I ordered a Baked Pasta with Pepsi. To start we ordered a Tzatziki appetizer that was really good. Flat bread with a Tzatziki dip that had parsley and rosemary mixed. Truly was a great start to our dinner. Mid way though, our waitress, Natasha, came to check on our appetizers in order not to bring out our food and fill the table with so many plates. Before the appetizers, Natasha canto ask what my tolerance of spinach was. She told me that the Baked Pasta's main ingredient is spinach and it's full of spinach. When our meals did come (in a timely fashion), the wait staff were pleasant and asked if we wanted any blankets and informed us when the outdoor fire heaters would turn on. My girlfriend's Chicken Supreme, although simple, was surprisingly good and amazingly presented with balsamic vinegar and full asparagus sticks. Rich in flavour and would side well with a light white wine if she weren't the designated driver. As for my Baked Pasta, extremely rich in spinach! I truly didn't mind but I would have liked more pasta in the dish. I WOULD NOT recommend this to anyone who is not a fan of spinach. The dish was 90% spinach, 7% pasta, and then 3% cheese. If I did not receive a kind, general warning, in the respectable question format from Natasha, I would have hated this dish. She prepared me for this and I was great-full for that. I live very close to Barangas and their location overlooking the lake is great, but I find that I don't go very often. It is a beautiful spot on a sunny summer evening, but the food is mediocre, the service is spotty and you end up paying for the location. With an improvement in the menu and better service, this place would be perfect, but I can't recommend it. If you want waterfront, go to Pepperwoods, Ema's or the Waterstreet Cooker in Burlington. read more

Ate here on Wednesday September 2nd 2020 and had one of the worst experiences with service in my life. I have always enjoyed the food here however have met my final failure with service which will finally have me saying, I will NEVER go back to Barangas on the beach. --- was our waitress and we had a group of 6 people. We had experienced some of the worst service yet - waited almost 30 mins to order, was given our meals and the server never returned to the table. The waitress FINALLY returned after almost an hour just for us to ask for the bills and have to wait 45 minutes before having to physically leave our seats to find the waitress to actually receive and pay the bills. The icing on the cake was that ---- added an auto-gratuity (to a group of 6 people? not acceptable) and FORCED us to pay an 8 dollar tip after having her come to the table maybe 2 times through out the entire night. Absolutely disgusted by how horrible the service was, and to know that the server took the liberty of stealing our money right from our pockets to tip her self for the WORST service I have ever received. Here is a spot tucked away near the waterfront you didn't know existed. Pretty uninventive, but pretty on the right evening. Go for the atmosphere on a warm evening, and take a walk along the waterfront path after. don't expect a culinary masterpiece, but drinks and a nice view. read more

Literally just ate here tonight and already told 4 people they must go. I'm visiting my original home in Niagara and I'm so mad that I hadn't learned about this place when I lived here. A group of 5 of us sat on the patio. The patio is fantastic with stunning views of Lake Ontario. Although we didn't sit inside the restaurant it was bright and airy with expansive windows. The service was prompt and attentive. We shared the trio of dips and it was more than enough for the 5 of us. I had the turkey burger without a bun and the beet salad. The salad was delicious as it was all pickled. The turkey burger was a little dry, but to be honest the delicious dips more than made up for it. Although it was dry it was quite flavourful. During our meal there was a live musician that started to play guitar. This made the great ambiance even better. Overall this will be a place I highly recommend for a dinner when I need to meet up with friends. It seems like a great option if you were hosting a big event or party as there is so much space. read more

Disappointing overall. Went for lunch with family during the week. My group had to wait a 40 minutes for food to arrive after placing our orders. Food was overpriced for quantity and quality provided: better Greek food can be found at most other places for a fraction of the price. Fried calamari ($19) was undercooked & soggy - I usually love the stuff - our table didn't finish the order. My mom's chicken souvlaki was also overpriced ($27) for the minimal quantity provided and the waitress had to be reminded about the accompanying salad 10 minutes after the food came. Water had to be rationed because no offers for refills came (most of us ordered drinks too). Washrooms were not clean - a stall had liquid all over the floor and a dirty wipe (?) hanging from the coat/purse hook on the back of the door. To be fair, the ambiance was nice and servers were friendly (though unreliable). Comparably, the Powerhouse in Stoney Creek also has a nice patio and was a much better experience. read more

But after we were done we waited a long time for her to come back. The hummus was not what we expected. It tasted like falafel. Weird. Had a cumin taste. So by this point I had to stop drinking the sangria. It was really strong and with no food was going straight to my head. Finally we had to call her over to order. We decided to get fried calamari, greek fries no meat, and spanakopita. The calamari wasn't battered it was lightly dusted and rubbery. If we wanted the grilled option we would have ordered that. It wasn't great when u want fried u expect fried. The spanakopita was just ok. The waitress brought out our greek fries with meat. So we sent them back. They were nothing special . Just fries with loads of feta and sauce. No tomatoes, no olives, no onions. Very bland. I have had better greek fries down town for $5! And I love feta but it made me feel sick there was too much. So we decided to order something else because not everyone was happy. So we ordered the Grecian shrimp. Worst dish ever. Even as she placed it down in front of us i was thinking this looks bad. One small crostini on top of a bowl of marinara sauce! Should be called Italian shrimp. It tasted as bad as it looked. Only two of us dare have a bite. It was very salty shrimp drowning in tomato sauce. We did tell the waitress when we could find her our concerns. And she spoke to the management and they did end up taking the calamari and shrimp off the bill. Thank you. The only reason I gave it three stars is the patio and the manager acknowledged our displeasure and acted accordingly. I am sorry Barangas but I won't be back. This used to be our favourite summer place for drinks on the patio last year, but this year has been a different story We have been twice so far and both times we have left with empty stomachs The first time was two weeks ago and the staff at the door warned us about a big backlog with the kitchen and it was going to be about an hour and a half for service - we left - no food, no issues Tonight we decided to try again and made the decision that this was not going to be our hang out this summer We got seated right away, but had about 5 different servers walk by us for about ten minutes without acknowledging our existence - the patio was at 50% capacity We then had one server ask if we had been seen, we said "no" and she shook her head and walked away A table that got seated after is then got service, we waited to see if the same server was going to stop at our table afterwards, but we weren't that lucky We got up to leave after about 15 minutes of waiting. Yeah.... no. Great view, but the food ranged from mediocre to simply inedible. For an appetizer we (GF & I) got the gyro nachos, which were OK, but the meat itself wasn't great and there weren't enough toppings on the chips themselves. I got the mac & cheese for an entree and it was absolutely terrible. It had clearly been microwaved and there were puddles of grease sitting on top of the pasta, which was overcooked. The cheese was pretty gross too. In retrospect I really should have sent it back, but I didn't want to ruin the evening. Oh wait, I almost forgot: we waited about forty five minutes for the entrees, and there was virtually no one else in the restaurant that I could see. I'm not sure why it took so long, especially when the product itself was so poor. One thing is for sure, though, and that is that I won't be going back. the location here is really amazing. my friends and I have been coming to this place for years for drinks, dinner and their nightlife, but this summer will be the last. the food is never spectacular and struggles to even be mediocre. everything is overpriced for what seems to be frozen food from a box. its unfortunate because the location is so amazing I wish the food, service and drinks here lived up to it. for the past few years we've only returned for drinks on the patio but recently they've gotten more watered down and the service has gotten less and less attentive. we once sat on the patio, menus in hand and waited well over 15 minutes for drink orders..we couldn't even get a round of water for the table. we vowed to never go back. after a bike ride along the beach this use to be a great place to stop in for apps and a pitcher of sangria but we'll take our business else were next summer. read more

Like other posters the only redeeming thing about this restaurant is its location. That being said, being besides Lake Ontario in Hamilton isn't exactly one the conjures up images of beach tranquility. The food can only be best described as a step below regurgitated road kill. Never before has my taste pallet been so insulted by what was placed in front of me. Couple that with insulting management staff, and outrageous price points on F-caliber food I would have to say that this is by far one of the worst restaurant experiences I've ever had. We stopped in Hamilton on the way back to the States from Michigan. It was already late and we took the suggestion of hotel staff to go to Barangas. Seating was good, lots of tables outside by the beach. Food, not great. I had a bowl of red pepper feta soup, which was very tasty, could have been hotter. Caesar salad was passable. My partner had some sort of gyro nachos which I didn't like. Cold cheese, barely any meat. I was just passing through so I'll never be there again, but we should have done our Hamilton research before we came. View was great though. I am afraid I have good news and bad news about this place. The good news is that the view is great. The bad news is that the food is terrible and overpriced. The service was really terrible from the time we first walked in. The server never brought water and was unaccommodating when we asked that one of the items be substituted. There are no free refills for soft drinks and the beer was really watered down. Another thing, the tip is already included in the price as if the service was second to none. We really hated this place and would never come back. If you want to have a good time with your friends and family, this is not the place to come. One year ago our daughter and her fiancé had announced that they would like to get married at a "Destination Wedding", "somewhere on a beach". My husband and I mentioned that it would be impossible to expect our large family to fly to Mexico or Jamaica for a destination wedding as the cost would be more than what most could afford . I had a passing thought of a restaurant in Hamilton, Ontario called Barangas on the Beach on Van Wagners Beach Road. My husband and I were not certain if they held weddings at their location, but it was worth a try. Our daughter and future son in law loved the restaurant the moment we walked in. The fact that it was on the beach seemed to be a dream that was about to come true. We spoke with Toula and asked if weddings were a thing that was held at their restaurant and she said yes it was and they would be happy to plan the celebration with us. Our children mentioned their thoughts and ideas to Toula and she showed us a book from previous weddings. At that moment our children said that this was their "Destination Wedding" location. We were then directed to Margarita who is the lady responsible for organizing the weddings. From the moment we met her, we felt like we were talking to a family member. Her care and passion was evident in all that she showed and talked to us about. She took us outside by the beach to show how the beach would be set up for a "Beach Wedding". This spring we had our "tastings" so our children could decide what would make up part of their wedding menu. The food was so delicious that it was difficult to decide and we felt any choice would have been the right choice. We just celebrated our children's wedding this month. The ceremony was held on the beach under a beautiful blue sky, aligned by tropical plants etc. It could not have looked like more of a "Destination Wedding" even if it would have been in Jamaica. While the pictures were being taken, our guests were served many delicious appetizers along with champagne and strawberries on the patio. We decided to hold the reception on the patio under a tent, a great suggestion by Margarita as it was a very sunny and hot day and also protected us from the rain that meteorologists talked about all day. The meal was so delicious that our guests are still talking about it. The portions were more than our appetites could handle. The DJ and the midnight table only complimented this perfect day. Margarita, Toula and all of the staff at Barangas, thank you so much for making what was only a dream for our children come to life. The memories of their celebration will be with them forever. As for us, we can only keep smiling in knowing that our child's dream was made a reality. read more

We go here for a farewell party for a friend. It takes 45 minutes before our first drinks are brought to us (with many mistakes made) each time they show up with a few drinks. It is over an hour and a half before our food is brought to us, again with many mistakes made with our dinner orders. I could understand if it was a busy night. But it wasn't that busy! The children (3 and 5 )found the long waits intolerable so did I and I am 70 . Unfortunately the food was mediocre at best eg moussaka was terrible. We will not return .
