I hate to have to do this especially because I've been with Barbara for so long. But this is so ridiculous, outside of wait times being insanely ridiculous EVERY TIME you're there. The place is still not up to date equipment wise. I've always looked beyond that because it's an intimate place. Black ownership. Etc. On top of consistently ignoring my claims and issues, the 4 hour visit, not being heard. Now it's taking an entire week to get results that are in BECAUSE Dr.gordan cant get to the phone. I'd love to read my results but sadly the website is botched and I cannot check, hence the countless phone calls I've made to get my results. I'm so over this. After receiving a referral from my general physician, I looked forward to trying this place out. Never will I return. There were so many things wrong with this place: 1. During my intake with the physician's assistant, a staff member came in and started stocking items into the cabinets for like two minutes straight. 2. The physician's assistant asked ME how to spell cervix - remember we are at a GYNECOLOGIST's office. 3. The physician's assistant asked ME to read to her the weight on the manual scale for her to record it. 4. I had to wait for 1 hour in sitting room then an hour in patient office. I waited so long in the patient office that I fell asleep 5. Bathroom is extremely cramped, so it's awkward to get your urine test. 6. You have to write your own name on your urine sample. Never in all my years have I ever had to do this. I think it's so unsanitary because they make you write it after you've left the bathroom. Everyone is using the same markers with who knows what bacteria all over their hands from the possibly-pissy urine cup. 7. As I'm giving Dr. Gordon feedback, she keeps trying to cut me off and forward me to the office manager. I wasn't having it and told her she should care because it is her name attached to all of this. They get two stars because after I finally got through to Dr. Gordon, she attempted to resolve some of the issues - namely the issue regarding her assistant who happened to be an intern. If I could leave a 0 star I would. They kept me waiting well over 2 hours and I received no apology when I told the nurse I can't wait any longer. I was in my gown waiting to see the doctor for over 40mins & no one communicated with me within that time to explain why I was waiting sooooooo long. The next day (today) I called the office to speak to the patient advocate & Mr Williams apparently couldn't understand what I was saying but I could hear people in the background said "ADVOCATE" "YES!". He asked if he could place me on hold then he came back & he was the advocate & the manager. I expressed my frustration and he said "sorry, but...." that's not a real apology and he did not provide me with any alternative to the problem. I had an iud that was causing constant infections and was hospitalized as a result. Three doctors tried removing it. I was told they would have to put me to sleep to remove it . I had a bad experience with the cleanliness here a few years back, but they moved locations and I got lazy so I decided just to try it again because I live nearby, and maybe I was being too particular. The intake person says to go pee in a cup in the restroom, label it and leave it. I go into the restroom to find that we are meant to pee in a SOLO CUP, like as in the cups you buy at a grocery store???? Slap on a staples/office label, and leave the open sample in a cup next to the sink where peoeple are washing their hands. I left. If this was any indication, they still need to clean up their act. I had a horrible experience here. The wait time was over 2 hours, and it was like that for other patients there too. Myself and other patients went out and about in the halls in nothing but our gowns wondering where the doctor was. The equipment and furniture is pretty run down in a way that feels unsanitary. Dr. Gordon is so horrible it makes you want to cry, she's unprofessional and I have to take an entire day off when visiting her because wait time can range from 45 mins to 2.5 hours. I only continued to come here because it's 1 block from home and I don't want to keep switching a GYN of all doctors. At this point, I'm over it and she will never see me again. A year ago, I received a call stating my results were ready and to come in, I stated "I won't be coming in because I no longer have insurance at the moment..is there anything I should be worried about that wasn't on there before?" The assistant said hold on.. then came back and said "yes there's something you should be worried about".. I was so scared, I did a walk in the next day and paid $150 out of pocket only for Dr. Gordon to tell me everything was fine. I explained to her what the assistant told me over the phone and she laughed hysterically and said "okay anything else? Need any birth controls ?" I couldn't believe I paid $150 because I was lied to and that was her reaction. She misdiagnosed me in November and both of my kidneys got infected and I had to call the office 5 times in 6 hours before getting a call back, after telling her how horrible I was feeling and telling her how many times I called her.. she said "excuse me? I had an appointment yesterday which I set up almost a month in advance. I only schedule my appointments for the first of the day, not the first available and am willing to wait longer until the first appointment is available because I'm unwilling to lose to much of my day to Dr appts. I was told I was given the first appt of the day 9:30 (I showed up at 9:15 since I was a new patient). There were a ton of people in the waiting room when I showed up but I was trying to be positive. At 9:54 I decided it's time to ask the person at the desk what is going on since I think it's rude and disrespectful to not inform people if their appt will be running more than 15 min late. I asked her when the first appt of the day is. 8 am. I asked when my appt is for. 10 am. I asked the average wait time at this practice. 45 minutes. I asked for my identification back and left. This doctor fraudulently charged my insurance for visits--they claimed that I came in for an illness when I came in for a routine OB/GYN checkup. I ended up paying $200 over what I was supposed to pay because of this, and they refused to correct the records or insurance claim when I discussed it with them. In addition, I called to request my medical records, and I was told that I would have to come in to get them--and that I would be billed for a doctor's visit if I did that. After several days of lengthy conversations with the staff (and reminding them that it's illegal to withhold my records), they finally agreed to release the records with a faxed consent. Dr. Gordon is a very nice person; I had no problems with her personally. But her office made my life hell last year--if you go here, triple-check everything you're billed for at the time of the visit. Or better yet, don't go here. read more

As I read the reviews here I realize I am a day late and a dollar short! I already knew how horrible they are with time so, I requested the FIRST appointment of the day. I told them I don't care how long I had to wait for the day. So I waited a month!!!! A month for an 8:00 am appointment. The day before my appointment they called me to reconfirm and when I answered the phone they asked me "WHO IS THIS" WTF!!!! You called me! After we straightened that out 15 minutes later they called me again! OMG!!! Get your Shhh.....together!!! Skip to the morning of the appointment... When I get there I realize there are 4 people with 8 am appointments and the doctor usually shows up between 8:30 am - 8:50 am. (Why is this OK?) I came in for a 945 appt to be greeted by 8 other patients in the waiting room we couldn't ALL possibly have 945 appts?! And we didn't, some were 930. At 11:08am, I now sit deals in that hideous medical robe that opens in the front, with a big ass paper blanket draping my legs waiting to be seen. When I asked her medical assistant about the wait, she gave me some bullshit excuse about patients showing up early and it depends on what each patient needs. Piggybacking. I knew it was too good to be true to have a doctor's office withing walking distance of my studio. I knew it. It was. I came here recently for a 1pm appointment. I was welcomed to a waiting room full of women, some who seemed to have been there for a very long time. I was worried, but optimistic that this wouldn't take so long. Like 30 minutes, right? Wrong. When I got to the desk some woman, maybe a NP fake smiled at me and said that the receptionist would be with me in a moment. The receptionist, took her time on the phone and then tended to me. As I was talking, she interuppted to answer the phone, something I'm not used to. She seemed a tad slow, but whatever. I sat and realized that folks had been at the office for a LONG time. I then ran into someone I knew and she said that this was her last time coming here. That confirmed it for me. I knew that I didn't want to come back. All she needed to do was get results and she ended up waiting an hour (we talked for an hour then realized, hey, we are still in the waiting room). Right then they called her name. I left. As I was leaving the office they called my name. Sigh. I'm so sick of these Medicaid mills. If you want to treat patients, fine. With that being said I've been to Dr. Gordon a couple of time and had a different experience each time. At one point I was sat down and time was taken. Another time paperwork was missing and I was rushed through without much conversation. It solely depends on the time of day and when you go. I loved Dr. Barbara Gordon from the first time I visited her office, not sure now how many years ago. Nevertheless I have steadily become more disabled and can no longer navigate easily the stairs, nor the narrow accommodations inside, with nothing more inconvenient than a rollator I must push around in front of me when outside. Inside, to be sure I can use simply a cane. But walking forward in any kind of traffic is just impossible for me. In addition, her office itself is typically so crowded and behind in schedule that one day, I'm sure at least a year now since I have seen her, I was waiting with my health aide for a good 3 hrs. before being seen at all. This is not to be taken lightly by anybody, especially when my aide must obey a pre-set schedule under terms set forth by Medicaid. Otherwise I am grateful for having had the experience of one of the warmest, combined with quite knowledgeable, gyn's I have ever known, who still welcomes pts. on Medicare and Mdcd in her office. One more thing: her hours of operation are very extensive, and there should be a time for anybody to fit themselves in at any time, even at relatively short notice. I have never found the staff members, including ones at the desk, to be anything but friendly and accommodating, with careful attention to what they are doing, without for example, accidentally taking your Medicaid card until after you are home and you yourself discover it! The wait times ranges from 10-20 min if your lucky and 2.5 to 3 hours during busy hours, which are basically from the moment they open up on the weekends and during the week between 11 til they close. FYI they never seem to close on time. The staff are relatively friendly and considerate as per my experiences but Dr. Gordon seems slightly indifferent to patients concerns and brushes them off as trivial on occasions. I've come here several times over the course of 3 years and they were enough to make me feel uncomfortable with Dr. Gordon's small talks about how I'm doing and talks of work/school. I do not recommend this doctor or her office. After my initial visit Dr. Gordon sent me for a sonogram. During the sonogram the technician specifically told me that Dr. Gordon needed to view the scan herself for a diagnosis. I returned the following week and Dr. Gordon read the results of the sonogram to me. She read them from a white sheet of paper (not a sonogram scan). My gut instinct told me something was off, so I asked if she had seen and reviewed the scan herself. She said that she had not seen it. I then expressed concern and said that the technician told me that the doctor needed to look at the scan. Instead of locating the scan and reviewing it, Dr. Gordon tried to assure me that she trusts her technician. When I further complained, Dr. Gordon pointed out that she could have just lied and told me she had seen it. She never went back and looked at the scan. On a separate occasion, her staff tried to take my vitals when I went to the office to pick up blood work results. I did not have an appointment and called ahead to verify that I could just stop by the office to pick up the results. I'd been waiting 4 weeks for the results and no one had returned my previously left message. I believe they tried to take my vitals, so they could charge my insurance for an office visit that I didn't want, need, or approve. The ethics of this doctor and her office are at best questionable. Dr. Gordon saved my life and sanity!!! Dr. Gordon and her staff were very compassionate and gave diligent service. As a first timer to her office, she took a detailed accurate medical history. Dr. Gordon was sensitive to my concerns my prior OB/GYN disregarded. I feel truly blessed to have found this practice. Being a medical professional myself in the same specialty, I had no need to give this information. Every procedure and process was explained in the simplest terms. I have also been to other very reputable Doctors practices and they provided me with dental Dixie cups to urinate into, I'll take a solo cup any day. read more

UNIVERSAL PROBLEM: This practice will only write birth control prescriptions for 6 months- this is not posted or communicated to you, but it is done in order to force you to pay beyond the commonly covered annual exam and come 2+ times a year. They will also pressure you or otherwise perform without your consent (see below) procedures/labs so that they can charge your insurance more for your visit. Unethical and unprofessional are unfortunately the only words that can describe this doctor and her practice. SPECIFIC REASON I COULD NEVER RETURN, IF YOU HAVE EXPERIENCED TRAUMA OR NEED BASIC COMMUNICATION AND BEDSIDE MANNER FIND SOMEONE ELSE: Dr. Gordon did not tell me she was doing a pap smear. I was asked to scoot to the edge of the table, expecting the usual exam. She was speaking to her colleague, not to me, and then I felt a familiar pressure and was frozen with fear, confused what was happening. I did not need a pap smear (I had a negative result in the last 3 years), and she did not communicate at all what she was doing before she did it. I was completely paralyzed and began to cry feeling unable to speak and confused what was happening. She did not walk through what she was doing, ask my pain level, no communication with me at all. I felt violated. She then immediately pivoted to asking about my weight, with an incorrect number on her chart that had to be corrected after much unprofessional shouting down the hall. She spent a few more minutes with me. She never said that she had given me a pap smear or why and I was still so confused as to what had happened. I only knew for sure when the receptionist mentioned "labs" and I had to ask her what the charts said had happened. Overall experience problems: My appointment was for 1:15pm and I was not called from the waiting room until after 2:45pm. I was told to pee in a cup but given no instructions as to where to take it, where to find the cups, or why they needed it (not all insurances cover pregnancy tests etc). I was asked the same questions multiple times, had to wait another 40minutes to see the doctor, and was not asked what the reason for my visit was once. *****I was given a six month prescription for my birth control, when most commercial insurance only covers ANNUAL visits and it is common universal practice to give prescriptions for a YEAR at each annual visit. This forces me to have to come back in less than a year and pay to receive my prescription. It may be the office's policy but it is not stated/posted anywhere in sight, or communicated to the patient. I received none of the care I needed, and instead was left shaken, with unnecessary medical bills for an unnecessary procedure I did not consent to. read more

This doctor saved my fertility when another OB/GYN ignored my symptoms and didn't do anything. Not only did she provide me with comprehensive care, but as a surgeon she is amazing. Minimal scarring, no complications, and I was back at work within two months. The only complaint is the wait time, but once she is in the room, she is focused on your health and wellness. Yes , there will be a wait time of at least an hour, and it's rare that you are seen by the doctor at the time of your appointment but the wait is worth it. Dr . Gordon knows her craft very well and has kept me healthy and physically aware of any issues that I could possible face. She's very honest , but also very sweet and caring . The staff that works at this doctors office under Dr. Gordon are usually young , vibrant women who never have attitudes and speak to patients with the up most respect . The main administrative assistant Jeanette has been working with Dr. Gordon for years and she never comes out of her face. Even when customers are irate or upset about the wait time , she speaks to them in a calm tone. If you are a person who doesn't mind a bit of a wait , you should try his doctors office out .
