1st impression: I did not know an appointment was needed for advice/help but what I did not expect was an employee in a scolding manner tell another employee helping me that they did not have an openings until 3 hours later. I have a cardinal rule: You never ever say something negative to anybody else in front of other people especially if it's an coworker, significant other or child. It does nothing to help and only sets a poor relationship point with the other person than can impact how they decide to interact with you in the future. Mid-Impression: If the employee helping me had not been gracious and assured me that she would try to help me despite her negative coworkers' comments, I would have left and never came back. Regardless of how much I need the advice. If Saturday is a busy day, perhaps better staffing ratio would be a potential solution to a long wait for help. Depending on the outcome and how long I wait, I will update my review and star rating later, but as of now it is 1 because of the 1 nice employeen I encountered. read more

This store has been the go to for Indy ladies needing extended sizing for years. Today I had my least pleasant experience there yet. I was denied service for not having an appointment. I was not even offered any items to see let alone a fitting. The store was all but empty except two women checking out one customer. Stopped in today because I was long overdue for a new "going out on the town" underwire bra. I knew I would have trouble finding a good fit on my own at the store. A'Jewelle did my fitting and recommended the perfect bra the first time she brought me things to try on. She made another suggestion for my every day bra (based on how ill-fitting the one I was wearing was - although she said nothing to me) and I ended up with two more superb daily wear bras. Bring money to burn because you're going to want to replace every bra you own. After a proper fitting at Barbara's, I was astonished. I knew my bras were uncomfortable but I was wearing a band 2 sizes too large and 3 cup sizes too small! I was also pleasantly surprised to learn they have sports bras. I picked up a strapless for a wedding, 2 sports bras, and 3 beautiful lacy or satin bras. Went home and threw everything else out! read more

I went here because my sister had said how good they were. I would have to disagree. The fitter seemed to simply use the under-bust and bust measurement to find appropriate bras. Even though I told her that I don't like underwire bras the first one she brought me was an underwire bra. It bit into my flesh. She then brought me a series of bras which were also very uncomfortable because they were inappropriate for my body type. The last one she brought me was, I thought, a sports bra (as per her description). When I got home and unpacked (I had been visiting for a wedding) I discovered it was a mastectomy bra. The band on the bottom is wide and rolls up due to my fat rolls which causes it to not have the elasticity needed. The padded inserts are very difficult to re-insert after washing and get re-positioned correctly. The padded inserts are also the same size despite my having asymmetrical breasts. The bras I have purchased off the rack at places like Target fit better and are a fraction of the cost. read more

I have been searching for a new bra for weeks that will provide side and large breast support and found Barbara's via the Goddess website. As a Southsider, I decided to take a chance and drive up there to Keystone, hoping for the best. Kim did a great job fitting me and providing me with many options to try on while listening to my wish list. I left with a great bra and somewhere to go in the future. I had a terrible time here which is unfortunate because I really enjoy supporting local businesses. I came here looking for bridal lingerie. To start with, the associate who measured me measured my band size and just eyeballed my cup size. This would bother me less if I had not been charged a fitting fee for this. They proceeded to bring out a lot of lingerie in varying cup and band sizes and tried to convince me every single one looked great. My chest wasn't oozing out of a three cups too small bra! No no- it's creating a cleavage look because you are weirdly spaced out! I tried one on I actually liked but the cups were too large, and requested a smaller size. I was told they were not made anymore and they tried to sell me the too large one instead. Eventually after talking with them I realized they didn't really have anything in my exact size and were just trying to get me out the door with something, because they didn't think they could have something shipped in in time. They phrased this as if it were a benefit to me, but to be honest if I had walked away empty handed because they didn't have my size I might have returned for regular bras. Overall The experience was uncomfortable and off putting. I feel they are more focused on making a sale than on the customer themselves. On top of this some comments were made about my body that left me feeling self conscious and worried- apparently I have an unusual amount of back fat (that's why this small band size doesn't fit!) and am "widely spaced and unusually high set". It did not feel good to be referred to as "unusual", especially when my body is... pretty normal tbh. read more

Funny story, I was referred to this place by another store. I walked into Layne Bryant, looking to purchase a bra. But the saleswoman said I don't think we can help you. To which I replied, well darn. Who can? Then I end up on the northside at Barabas new beginnings. Located in the complex that is with Barnes and Nobel, it's an intament setup, that is all boutique style. With different bra, panties and bathing suits. Really friendly staff, they ask a lot of helpful questions and assist you with a fitting. Although expensive I think this place is well worth the investment because you leave looking great! This was my first time going to Barbara's and I had an awesome experience. I was promptly greeted by by the store manager. I expressed to her that friends And family had been in before and recommend that I come. I was not disappointed. Vicki/Holly waited patiently on me, took the time to measure me and fit me properly! They explained the importance of hand washing my new garments. The atmosphere was peaceful, colorful, and inviting. I left feeling like a new and improved woman!! If you are still strolling around in an undergarment that doesn't fit properly...quit being frugal and "treat yo self" to properly fitting bra!!!! I love this store! They were ready to find the perfect bras for me. I went in only expecting to get one bra but left with three! The woman who assisted me got me clearance items and kept true to my style. She also opened up my eyes to new colors and styles in different brands. They are honest and try their best to find something really right for you. I've been here several times looking for bras. I'm in a 38HH (American size 38L), so there aren't many options out there for me. Nordstrom carries a very small inventory, so I decided to try Barbara's. That was a terrible decision. As other reviewers have stated, they don't do refunds on bras that you have worn and even if you haven't, they only offer store credit. As a little background, I used to sell lingerie. I have been properly fitted several times and I am well aware of my size and how it might vary with different manufacturers. I also know how a bra should fit. Their response to me telling them the sizes that I wanted to try was, "Oh, this is the size you really need.", and they bring a bunch of bras in the wrong size, but close to mine. I'm a reasonable person, I tried their options on. I found one that was close, but still too small in the cup. The gore was pointing straight out. I told the fitter that that absolutely won't work. Her response was, "Oh, years ago Oprah told women that the gore should lay flat and now everybody believes that. It's not really true. This bra fits you perfectly!" Ummm, no. The gore should lie flat, if not, your cup is too small. It was around that time that she admitted that they didn't actually have my size in stock. She was just trying to sell me what they had in stock, instead of asking me to come back another time. On another visit, they refused to allow my then 4-year-old son to use their restroom (we were the only customers in the store) because, "It's only for ladies." Seriously. He was four. Overall, after my experiences and seeing other reviews with similar experiences going back years and years, I can't in good faith suggest this shop. If you need big bras, go to Nordstrom. If you don't (say DDD and smaller), then there are so many more options out there. Don't waste your time here. read more

So disappointed! NOT a "bra fitting". I did not know exactly what to expect but I thought it would be more than measuring my ribs and telling me I was 30 inches around. What about my cup size? What about the space between my breasts? What about my long torso? Etc. etc. and for the record - anything less than a 36 binds me so tight I can't wear it. What sent me over the edge was the poor service- it was like "if you don't like what I have then you are out of luck". Again, NOT A Bra Fitting. Just trying to sell stuff!! read more

Just had a great experience at Barbara's. I thought you had to make an appointment, but I called and was told they only take walk-ins. I was nervous about going on a Saturday, but that's my only free day, so I went anyway. We didn't have too long of a wait. I already knew that I wear a challenging size to find, but I thought Barbara's was THE place to go to find more options. Sadly, they only had one option in stock, but it has since become my new favorite bra. I asked if I could order more, but was told they couldn't get any more in stock. They did offer to share the style name and number with me so I could go online and order more (I did!). My sister also went with me and found multiple options that worked for her. I thought the staff was very helpful and they worked quickly to get us in and out. When I came in I explained to the (obviously exasperated) woman at the front of the store that this was my first time getting fitted and I just wanted to know my size. The woman behind the counter entered my information into a system (without explaining why) and then complained about being on her lunch break before handing me off to another woman who took me to a fitting room to measure me. The rest of the experience was just super awkward. After measuring me, the woman came and went with various bras to try on and was there to "strap the bra in the back" like I haven't been doing that for myself since Middle School. There was no discussion about what I was looking for or what my preferences were. Instead, she would say "I don't like how this one fits on you" and leave for more. Did I mention it was awkward? Because it was so incredibly awkward. Maybe it wouldn't have been so weird if she would have actually talked to me about what was happening or if she would have, you know, asked me if it was okay if she stood in the dressing room with me while I undressed. The woman who "greeted" me, had said "We have over 6,000 items in the back - you don't want to look through all of them so we do it for you." No, I really would have much rather looked through them for myself because I knew was I was looking for and the person working with me obviously didn't care to find out what that was. I noticed a sign that said there was a ten dollar charge for being fitted without a purchase. Thankfully, they didn't charge me (maybe they forgot?) - I would have been even more upset if I would have had to pay to be uncomfortable for half an hour. At least I know my size now so I can go somewhere else to find what I'm looking for. read more

No joke, Barbara's is life changing. I was introduced to this shop by my well-endowed friend, who had been raving for months about how they are the only store in Indy that sells bras that fit her. I've always been able to reasonably fit into the typical sizes sold at department stores, so I figured that while I may not be wearing the exact right size, it wasn't that bad. One day, though, when she said she was going and invited me along, I figured what the hell and was prepared to at least get one new bra. The woman who helped me was very professional and knew what she was doing. I was fitted in a 32F, which was a surprise, since I'd been buying 36Ds from Aerie and VS since high school. I was amazed at how much better my clothes looked on me now that I was wearing the right size. Not only that, I had given up on buying cute bras from other stores, since the ones that were offered in larger sizes tended to be anything but cute. I walked out with two beautiful, well-fitting bras and have gone back many times and always found what I needed. The staff has always been attentive in not only finding me bras that fit, but ones that I like as well or that meet my needs. Worth the extra money and effort. read more

This place changed my life, I swear. After searching far and wide for a good bra fitting, this place ended my search. They were quick and prompt with me, and were able to fit me properly. I had told them previously how a 32D was making me fall all out of bras, and they measured me at 30DD and 30E. It was a blessing because trying on those bras instantly changed my silhouette from frumpy to va-va-voom. The bras are a little pricier because many of them are imported from Europe, like Simone Perele and Panache. However, bras are something we ladies need to wear everyday if we are bustier, and a good investment to have. My favorite bra from this store was from Simone Perele and it cost about 108 USD, but it fits like a literal dream. I will definitely keep coming back. Barbara's New Beginnings. Let me start with Wow. I went here, I had no idea what to look for. When making a new Beginning in anything, a person is really sensitive to everything. I first went in to get a Professional Bra fitting. Sarah put my worries at ease, and everyone at Barbara's made me feel welcome. Sarah took the time to explain every detail of all the bras there to me. The quality and amount of variety was shocking. I got the information I needed from Sarah, but I was not sure of what to do. I said I would be back. I came back 2 days later, I check prices online, Barbara's was a lot cheaper, but a cheaper price is not always the most important. This was a experience which opened my eyes to a place where I could say exactly what the problems and concerns I had. I have had medical doctor tell me to get a bra because of a medical condition, a horrible car wreck, and a severe back injury. I state this because I felt so out of place and really worried when I walked in. When I left 2 days later, I feel like a new person. Also the thought to every detail was there, the decor was thoughtful, and correct while cheerful pleasantness of that hidden gem will always be with me. DO NOT SHOP HERE. Go to Nordstrom or ANY other department store instead. After two attempts at this store trying to find something that fit comfortably with no luck, I went in for the second time to return my bra (in the appropriate condition--unwashed, unworn, tags still on) and was told that I would be forced to keep store credit rather than get a refund. Um, what? I made it clear that I did NOT have time to keep going back and forth to try different bras. They even admitted that I was measured incorrectly the first time-- not that they care about wasting a customer's time. So, rather than be reasonable and make an exception to their arbitrarily made up store policy, the manager told me she could not give refunds, even though she can (she later admitted that she can, she just has to get permission). There's obviously a difference between can't and won't. She said I had to call the owner in Ft. Wayne. After my husband and I both left SEVERAL messages that have gone unreturned for the last six weeks, I just disputed the charge with my credit card company and they are handling it. For a small business, one would think good (or even reasonable) customer service would be important, as that's what keeps them in business. Why would anyone want to shop at a place that forces you to keep shopping there if you return an item? It defies logic. It's much easier to shop at a larger store that returns your money when you take things back in the condition required. As others on here have noted, their return policy is ridiculous, unreasonable and they are losing customers (that pay damn good money for a bra, might I add) because of it. read more

So, for real. I went here because I lost a bunch of weight and all my bras were sorta, well, roomy. If I were fitting myself, I would have probably put myself in a 36B. Turns out, the girls at Barbara's put me at a 34E (and maybe even 32F, it was a toss-up). My boobs are NOT big. The deal is that none of us wear a proper sized band, and when you fit that properly the cup size gets a little out of hand. I'm about 1/3 of the way through my weight loss, and I won't buy a bra anywhere else. It doesn't matter if you are morbidly obese, or have no chest at all - these ladies have seen it all and are very professional. Don't hesitate because you think it might be awkward. Great experience and service. They listened to what I needed, did a fitting and helped me find great fitting bras. If you haven't been fitted and the store before, they do measurements in a private fitting room, then you stay in the fitting room. They bring bras to you and look at fit on each bra - adjusting straps and looking at cup and band fit. You will be topless in the fitting room with the woman who is helping with the fit. I also learned from my last visit, and brought a more fitted v-neck shirt (forgot a tank top), so I could see how the fit of the bra looked under clothes I am in most during the summer. If I had an event I would bring the outfit to the fitting. I walked out with 3 well fitted bras, and will be back. The Simone Perele was my favorite, and was $108. I also got 2 other bras that were $70. I will be back for another Perele. I also appreciated that they had my information and past purchases and sizes. It was a great and easy experience. read more

The first time I went to Barbara's they were eager to please. However, upon my visit today with my daughter they were impatient and not helpful. When the could not find my previous purchase the one employee questioned whether or not I had the right store. When we discovered the item I wanted to purchase, the employee snapped at me stating to wait and she was about to find out what size I needed. The final piece of poor customer service was shen she half hearted stated she would call the Ft Wayne store to see if the item could be shipped to the Zionsville store. She actually put her hand on the cordless phone and stated weakly, "well, I guess I could call our Ft. Wayne store, but I know they are really busy right now." It was apparent she didn't need our business and I will continue to go to Nordstroms where they know how to treat customers with respect for their time and effort and hard earned money. Cannot Be Beat!!!!!! This place is awesome, I was always well endowed and I am now 5 months pregnant. I came across this place when looking online at nursing bras and they sold them in their store! The costumer service is fabulous, they really take their time with you and make sure you find a bra (or 3 in my case) that fits perfectly. I found out I am an H cup through them, and I don't know what I would do if I had gone anywhere else because I haven't seen anyone else who carries such large sizes that fit and support properly. Just be sure to bring some $$, its not cheap but its top notch quality! You get what you pay for!!! As someone who wears a larger size bra (36G), there are not many options out there. Victoria's Secret and Soma don't carry my size in store and I want to actually try something on before I spend a ridiculous amount of money. Nordstrom carries a great selection but I wanted more options. That's what led me to Barbara's New Beginnings. I was quite disappointed in my entire experience there. I walked in and started to look around and quickly realized that there were no bras on display. Huh?? I was finally approached by an employee and I was told that bras are kept in the back while swimwear and sports bras are kept in the store front. Ummm ok? So I went to the fitting room with this employee and she took my measurements and disappeared in the back. She returned with a few options and I immediately turned down two of them. Of the options, I owned one and hated it, and the other one I had tried on at Nordstom's and didn't like. Maybe if I had been allowed to look at their inventory, this would not have been a problem. Or if the employee had taken a couple of minutes to ask what I was looking for or what I currently owned, we could have avoided this. Bad customer service and feeling rushed was the theme of this experience. She brought in a few more bras and I finally decided on a Panache bra. She asked me if I would like to wear it out of the store. I of course said yes. She proceeded to cut off the tags and once that was done, she immediately let me know that since I was wearing it out, I would not be able to return it. All sales are final when it is worn out of the store!!! What??? You couldn't tell me that before you cut off the damn tags???? Their return policies are ridiculous. At least if I had kept the tags on, I could return it for store credit. But still.... As a bra retailer, they should know that wearing a bra for two minutes in a dressing room is not the same as wearing a bra for 18 hours. The employee also didn't tell me how much the bra cost. I didn't know until I got up to the register. $80 later and I felt like I was taken advantage of. I left with a bra that now, a month later, is still not my favorite item of clothing. I will stick with Nordstrom from now on. They have a more lax return policy and the employees are more personable. read more

A trusted friend highly recommended Barbara's New Beginnings, so when my bra size changed from something reasonable (36DD) to something harder to find (a fuller 34DDD), I decided to give them a try. Should have stuck to the internet. When I walked in, there was no greeting. I found this annoying. If your entire business model is centered around personal attention, the very least you can do is greet someone as they walk in. After getting greeted and to a fitter (took about 15 min), she asked what type of bra I was going for... I told her every day bra in Nude. The fitter measured my band at a 33, and said that I should wear a 36 for extra band room. After explaining to her that I have been in 36's and they are too loose, she agreed to start with 34's. That didn't seem like a conversation I should have to have with anyone who trained for 3 months to fit bras. She didn't ask what type of shape I was going for, which I thought should be a primary question. Before she got too far, I explained that I wanted the sisters front and center. I could tell the first set of bras were no where near what I was looking for. She brought 2 black, one gray and one neon yellow, all with the molded cup that lets everything fall to the side. I explained again, and she said that she had brought out all push-up bras. A) None of those were anywhere near a push-up bra, B) The sisters don't need any pushing, they need something to keep them in place. This is when she told me that they were running low on inventory, so what they had in my size was limited. And if felt like I was shopping off the clearance rack. Nearly everything she brought out to me was Wacoal. I'm sure they make a good bra, but I really wanted some options. After trying on about 9 bras, I ended up purchasing a black bra that seemed to fit ok, but I instantly regretted the purchase as soon as I stepped outside. And, as others mentioned, only returns for store credit. I'm going to see if I can wait until the beginning of the year and exchange it for something I actually want. read more
