I've been in the emergency room for about two hours with my 80-year-old mother, and unfortunately, the environment has been far from what I remember. Staff members were openly using profanity and engaging in inappropriate conversations within earshot of patients. It was uncomfortable and honestly disheartening--especially for someone of my mother's age to have to sit and listen to. I've been coming here for over 40 years, and I never expected to see such a decline in professionalism. As someone who works in the medical field, I understand how demanding these environments can be, but maintaining a respectful and appropriate atmosphere should always be a priority. This experience was upsetting, and I truly hope this feedback is taken seriously. I will be following up further regarding this concern. I guess this is the quality that Loyola is now, such a disappointment. The only thing I can say positive is the chaplain who came down with kindness and compassion.

I understand hospitals can be busy, but basic updates and attention to patients go a long way. The level of care I received did not meet expectations. I really hope they improve their patient communication and overall service, because this was not the level of care anyone expects when going to a hospital.

Shortly afterward, the pain became overwhelming and I ended up on the floor, where I briefly passed out. While I was on the ground, no staff member came to assist me. Another patient in the waiting room was concerned enough to ask staff for help, but according to her, no one responded immediately. Eventually, a triage nurse came out, looked at me, and told me to "get up." I was physically unable to do so without assistance, yet no help was offered. With difficulty and the assistance of another patient, I managed to get myself off the floor. The nurse took my vital signs and placed me in a room, but informed me that I would still have to wait. I asked if I could have something as simple as Advil for the pain and was told that nothing could be given until I was seen by the ER physician. When my wife arrived later and asked if I could have some water, she was told no. I ultimately left once the pain began to subside because I felt ignored, dismissed, and judged rather than cared for. At no point did I feel that my condition or level of pain was taken seriously. The lack of compassion, assistance, and communication was extremely disappointing. Emergency rooms are often busy, and I understand that patients may need to wait. However, basic kindness, concern, and assistance should never be optional. My experience left me feeling that I was treated as an inconvenience rather than a patient in need of help. Based on this experience, I would not return to this hospital, nor would I recommend it to others.

My nurse showed up only at about 2 pm and said I finally have a bed. I asked him if he was the one who took 2.5 hours to get me food, he said yes. I said I do not trust you in my care and asked him to leave the room. As he was leaving, he said I hope you die bitch. When I complained about this, the nurse added that I said an N word, the ER charge nurse said I would bring him here, and we would see who said what. I asked ER Charge nurse Matt not to bring the nurse who said I hope you die bitch to my room; he did anyway. In the meanwhile my heart is racing at 150b/min. They do not care, nor charge Nurse Matt believes anything I say, " because he knows him and he would never say anything like that". Matt's hands are in his pockets, and he says a sarcastic "right" with body language indicating he is not slightly interested in what I am saying. This was a gross ethics violation, and 2 lies. One was denying my reality that the nurse said, "I hope you die bitch and another lie was that I said an N word. ER charge nurse Matt did not even bother giving me the benefit of the doubt that what I was saying was true; he even told me I should be happy I am not dealing with the hospital's security. He walked into my room, not asking me what happened, but scalding me for saying the N word. He didn't even bother asking me if I had said it. He walked into the room already accusing me of inappropriate behavior. The fact that I complained about the nurse saying I hope you die bitch was not even an event for charge nurse Matt. He was very stern and accusatory with me despite my 150 beats per minute a-fib rate. I guess I lost my credibility by demanding food in am, therefore, in charge nurse Matt eyes I am a racist and a liar as well.

Medicare Patients take notice: I don't understand why Advent Health continues to disregard the…read moreInflation Reduction Act law. Starting January 1, 2023, that law eliminated out-of-pocket costs for vaccines which are covered under Medicare Part D and which are recommended by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP), including vaccines to prevent herpes zoster (shingles). On November 19 2025, I received a second Shingles shot from Advent during an illness visit at my family doctor's office in Lombard. I left them a copy of my Part D Drug Plan card and a reference to the Medicare MLN908764 Fact Sheet, which explains how family doctors that accept Medicare Part B can get reimbursed under Part D. But Advent started billing me for the shingles shot in December 2025, and after numerous communications with them, my account still shows a charge of $193. This I dispute and have not paid. Now, Advent is threatening me with Collection Agency Action and legal fees. Some Details: 1. My Congressman Sean Casten sent me the MLN908764 Fact Sheet to share with my provider. Figure 3 covers how family doctors can administer and get reimbursed for Part D vaccines. 2 The Advent Lombard Office has steadfastly refused to initiate the procedure in Figure 3, or explain why their inactions do not violate the IRA Law. 3. The Advent Billing Department (which bills Parts A and B) refuses to reset my balance due to $0 and return the matter to the Lombard Office where it belongs. 4. I have mentioned the IRA Law and MLN908764 in all of my communications with Advent, but they have declined to mention either one in any of their replies. 5. I have recently emailed Gov. Pritzger and the Illinois Attorney General about this matter and am hoping to hear back soon. Based on my experience, I do wonder if Advent Health Care has any desire to provide vaccines to more than just wealthy folk who pay for services themselves. Does Advent think that the poor and the elderly (I am 83 yrs old) belong somewhere else, such as Walgreens or CVS, even if it means additional travel and a second health care visit for them? After blood testing and imaging showed nothing heart related , the doctor thought I should stay overnight for a stress test. They put me in an observation room on the first floor near the ER. The first thing I noticed was a toilet right out in the open. Not even a curtain around the toilet. No bathroom, no sink with mirror, no shower. Basically just the exposed toilet, a bed, a trash can and a utility sink with a used cup and straw sitting there. There also was a large window, about 4' x 4' with no blinds or covering. If anyone walked past outside that window they could see everything in the room. When I went for a CT I was left in a cold hallway with several other people for about 30 minutes before I got the test. When I got back to the room I told the nurse there was no way I could stay in a room that offered no privacy and stripped me of my dignity. He told me that I didn't have a choice. I told him that I wasn't staying and to remove the IV port from my arm and get me the paperwork to sign myself out. Horrible experience. I've been to their emergency room twice and both times have left me feeling traumatized. You couldn't pay me to go back there.

Emergency Care (and some Follow-up Care) -…read more NOTE: I have a lot of Good Things to say about CDH ("Central Dupage Hospital", they seem to call it!), and a few Bad Things to say, as well. In the final equation, the "goods" outweigh the "bad", and leave me with 5 stars. My Health Issues are my own, and not the Hospital's. I have taken this into account. I will also reference comments made by other Reviewers... and I will not judge your own opinions, but only the comments others made. Let's acknowledge - right up front - that Hospitals are ALWAYS understaffed. After all, who in their right mind would want to deal with people like me, or are writing negative reviews on Yelp, whining and bitching about their Entitlements? And do this for an entire Career of 12 - 14 hour shifts? Not me, bucko. I went to CDH ER after visiting the Warrenville Urgent Care Facility, for a *severe* nosebleed. As I near the end of my Tenure on this miserable planet (whose Joys are compounded by His Awesome Puissant Orangeness and its Clown Car Administration), I've seen a lot of things - but NEVER a nosebleed like this. Think of a fast-dripping faucet, just shy of a constant stream. It literally scared me. My Bride and I worked at home for 10 hours trying to stop it, and could not. So, we climbed in the truck. Warrenville Urgent Care took a look, and recommended we go to CDH ER. We walked into the ER. Warrenville had obviously called ahead - the nice ladies at Reception saw us, and motioned me toward a waiting gurney and Nurse. There was zero wait time. Fast-forward 4 hours of serious effort by the doctors and nurses and a couple of what they call "Rhino Rockets" stuffed up my snout, and we had it quenched. We agreed that the Probable Cause was "Eliquis", a blood thinner recently prescribed to me to combat another Health Issue as I crawl toward the grave. A blood vessel had ruptured in my schnozzle. But there was also a collateral concern - I had lost so much blood during those 14 hours (circa 2 liters, we "bevnap estimated"), that the Doctors wanted to monitor me awhile. My Hemoglobin level was 7.1. So they admitted me, with my agreement. The ER Experience? Check, check, and check. No issues, professional, courteous, and caring. Up to the Second Floor, Cardiac. In Cardiac, the Doctors, Nurses, and Assistants came in and introduced themselves. I spent the next 4 days there, and reflecting on the experience, I have very few complaints. I'll list 'em below if I have room, or in a follow-up post. But overall, they took very good care of me. The Cardiac Experience? Check, check, and check. No issues, professional, courteous, and caring. I'd like to personally thank Nurses Josh and Isabella, who looked out for me over several lonely night shifts - I was insomniac, and if I slept for the next three days, I really can't remember it. But, hey: this is a review of the ER, so let me tangentially address some of the Yelp comments I saw: * "The problem with most ERs is under staffing." - Yes, indeed. That's called economics. Nearing the end of my life, I can't say I've ever found a solution, except to stand up for yourself where needed, and don't make a fuss if the issue is triaged-out. * "They know how to spend on remodeling" - Yes, indeed. I would also venture the opinion that *this is the best-looking Hospital I've ever seen" *. And, why should they not work to make their Facility as attractive as they can? Construction workers are not Doctors, and there is a shortage of Doctors. * "No one came to check on me with any regularity." - Yes, entirely possible. That's why there's this widget attached to the bed with a "Call Button" on it. This comment suggests a 'passive approach' to one's own Health Care - waiting around for things to happen to you. Enable yourself. * "Ran test and wanted to run more." - Yes, indeed. Corrective process for sacs of meat (e.g. Humans) follows a procedure where you must wait and observe the outcome of the last action . * "They nickel and dime everything." - Yes, indeed. That is the current state of the American Medical "system". Vote to change it, sir. And, to punish the Orange. The Bad's? Well, I took a look at my own notes, and nothing was important-enough to bear mentioning. I'll call-out a few, just for drill: * Their signage (Facility-wide) is abysmal, and does not support a first time visitor. * There's a Valet available to help you park your ride after arrival. You'll never see him, due to the poor signage. Now I am approaching the end of my Character Count (as well as my Life!!), so let me stop here. But please keep in mind - these are people who have devoted their entire lives to helping people, undergoing the strictest training of which I'm aware, and working shifts that exceed what I would EVER consider putting up with myself. Can they make mistakes? Sure! But give them the grace to be human every now and then, and question them if you see an issue. Stick up for yourself. Peace.

My sister by another mother was taken from Tavern on Rush and admitted into the ER. I inquired about her at the front desk. the white girl at the desk in et was rude condescending as I explained the situation and said I didn't understand the process and was trying to. This attitudes by her was awful and quite rude for a hospital staff member She then told she had not been processed nor had she been admitted or registered in yet but to please wait that was at 9:30 PM. !!there was a second person who was black and very kind trying to answer my questions while she continues to interrupt her and act like she knows more then everyone rolling her eyes. but the white girl who would not let me go back and see her told me there can only be certain visitors. The physicians assistant called on my phone told me to get a visitors pink pass and I could back. This nasty girl yea girl if 22-25 brown hair 5'5 told when I said Howe's the last. Who said this, she called you, "we'll hang on" she came back and said nope you can't go back. The nice nurse or cna Becca came out to speak to me. How a hospital could allow anyone to act this way is beyond me. She was condescending and rude making me feel like I was doing something wrong. She than pushed her chair back and ran in the through the doors in what appeared to me to speak to someone about me visiting her .When I came back she told me I could not go back and see her. She was intimidating and acted like she ruled the roost.. disgusting for an RN, CNA or any hospital staff member . whoever. I come from Adventist in Hinsdale and can't imagine anyone acting like this in regards to patient care patients no matter what the sociological economic status of patients or family members inquiring is. The physicians assistant Becca or RN as I did not see her badge was kind considerate came out and explained and tried to a praise me of what was going on and why I could not see my her. She further explained it was because we had come in together from Tavern on Rush where she was picked up in the ER vehicle. She then said if we did let her go with you how would she get home. I explained what the process would be. The front desk person who was so disrespectful and literally holier than thou ran back in the back to speak with Becca who was kind when I asked again can I go see her she said just a minute. However after the front desk staff meme we made sure I could not go back for whatever reason she deemed was her right not mine to play god. Never explaining but with a total lack of disregard to a person. Is that how a hospital is run and that is accepted behavior. DISGUSTING TO BE ALLOWED!! We are now well into 2 hours of me inquiring and none the more informative. It is about 11 and I am still trying to figure out how I can see my her in the back and what's going on. Again Becca comes out explains that they would release her to someone else that did not come in from Tavern on Rush because we were together at there and they were not allowed to release to someone who is with her at there. Wow news to me on this point but ok. Not wanting to make waves nor have I made any I again went to the waiting room and waited. When I asked can I see her please, what's going on?? The same staff member who I will call the little Missy girl told me there were five people who inquired about her and are here. I said what there is only me here there are not 5 people. She then looked at me like I was stupid and said "Yes there are 5 people who have inquired, then the security guard also got snippy like I was stupid or on something. Hmmm Like I didn't follow the ambulance in and ask her questions - no one else was there. Now if her son called ok so say that don't be rude and snippy when a person is inquiring on the admitted!!! What is up with the intimidation of her and the security guard when I inquired. What 5 people I came here with the patient. There is no need to strong or intimidate a person asking questions of care. There is no reason for this type of behavior from either one of them when a simple question has been asked. When the CNA or whatever Becca was came over speaking to me . The rude Missy girl left her post from the front desk of the emergency room to run over and say what's going on what did she want. What is this you told her WOW how is this person employed there

She also felt the need to go over everything that my mom has to do over the next few months as far as follow up appointments go like we are both not aware of what she needs to do. When we expressed our frustration with the facility and how they are not providing the care that they advertised when we toured it and stated that they are understaffed and that the doctor on site comes in once a week and will talk to my mom for maybe two minutes. Her response was "I'm reading a report from the fourth, what's the doctors name" looking right at me implying that we are not around enough to know what kind of care my mom is receiving. Which is insulting since between myself and my two other siblings at least two of us have spent hours a day spending time with my mom.
