From fun classes with inspiring coaches to an amazing graduation and lots of callbacks, I couldn't be happier or prouder of having my three kids ages 8-13 attend Barbizon. The staff at the Diamond Bar office are always a delight to see on Sunday mornings. The best part is being able to attend classes even after graduating! I enrolled my daughter in their modeling/acting lessons. Barbizon claims they have small groups when they actually recruit hundreds of kids. The class was always full so there was no room for my daughter to take the lessons and they still charged for it. I requested a program cancellation and refund. It wouldn't kill to splurge on a few signs to help the auditioners know where, exactly, they're about to get BSed. Professionalism is on the lower spectrum right off the bat. They play cheap pop music to compensate for all the boredom bubbling in the young kids. The "audition" was supposed to start at 11:30 AM. I'm writing this review at 11:41 AM to pass the time. There's a way to scam unsuspecting adolescents, but these people just aren't selling it. My high school wind ensemble auditions were more professional and these people boast of their "unknown prestige". The video they show feels just as cheap as their interior design choices. Too long--loses interest about five seconds in. I've seen better AMVs. These people need to take a class in rhetoric. We get it--you're just trying to waste time. This video is like ten minutes long, oh my god, we get it, you know how to use Windows Movie Maker. Two words: cheap bourgeoisie. The "audition" portion felt like a farce to entertain the parents for a little while before they get straight to the meat of the operation: the money-robbing. Barbizon Modeling and Acting is a pretentious little cavern in the middle of nowhere that piggybacks off the success of Rico from Hannah Montana, who just happened to start off in Barbizon, instead of detailing what their mysterious program has to offer. Correlation is not causation. There's definitely a huge power difference between the client and the program that made me uncomfortable as soon as I walked into Joana-or-whoever's office. It's strange that they like to emphasize how little people they're accepting when their application was as easy as signing up for an email subscription. They lack efficiency. Don't settle for Barbizon. Even the name of it sounds terrible. Just settle for community theater or something, parents. I lend my sympathies to everyone who was scammed by this shoddy establishment. read more

Barbizon Modeling and Acting was the best place I have ever been to! Not only do they help you with confidence but they help you to become a better person. All the coaches there love what they do and want the best for each student. When I graduated in 2014 I received numerous callbacks and I have booked work. Ever since then I've met with many directors from Nickelodeon, FreeForm and many more. I have gotten offers to work out of the country such as Italy! Barbizon even stays in touch with you after graduating from there to see how well you are doing and they have workshops that they do to help you with your auditions. I noticed the majority of reviews are from a parent's perspective, so hopefully, a kid's perspective helps show the lack of legitimacy with this program. As a what was then 16-year-old teen with a dream for commercial acting, I was really let down. I found Barbizon on a website a little more than a year ago. I regret begging my mom to take us, thinking it would actually give me an opportunity. I agree with all the other low ratings, they're really just in it for the money. The audition went smoothly, where we got a "callback", saying I got chosen for this prestigious program. I was told I had so much potential and that they saw success with me. All BS words just to lure us in. Knowing the tuition fee would leave a dent in our pockets, they gave us a discount, that I was on some "scholarship" for the reduced fees. We still had to pay around $3000. I was told I was going to be grouped with kids around my age, to ensure the best training and experience possible. In my first class, I found out I was grouped with 10-13-year-olds who were extremely immature and like they didn't even want to be there. Because of that, our class was always scolded and not taken seriously. I genuinely wanted to learn acting and modeling, but it seemed that I couldn't because a majority of the class time was spent on unprepared children who just "didn't do it", compared to the one or two other teens my age who spent countless hours researching and practicing their pieces. When it was my turn for presenting, all I would get for feedback was "That was good!", getting about one to two minutes of their time-- not even half of what the kids got. It's really amazing how rude and condescending the teachers were (especially the ones who were full of themselves) to us because of our immature group. By the time they got around to the older kids, they'd be so exhausted and fed up, we'd have to endure their condescension and BS-ed feedback. Another thing I wanted to stress was that the curriculum wasn't explained correctly during the first meeting. We were told it was a year-long program that covered one topic from the agenda during each class, and where our graduation certificates were our permits for the entertainment industry. Turns out it was a 6-month long curriculum, which stressed me out when I found out during one of my classes. Where I thought I would have a year to prepare my material, I had about one month left to memorize three commercials and a monologue. Also, the permit they so heavily stressed was definitely not the certificate. We had to file for that separately, using the "Graduation Certificate" for training evidence. My favorite thing to talk about is the showcase, which is basically the build-up for what everyone is preparing for. The one where "tons of top talent agencies" will be at. Here's the deal-breaker: A student isn't allowed to participate in a showcase unless their tuition fees are fully paid off. Sounds pretty encouraging, right? They would announce the dates for an upcoming showcase, expecting you to attend that one. But if your tuition fees aren't paid off, guess what? You can't participate. There are hundreds of Barbizon students at the showcase, along with hundreds of other students from IMTA (basically another Barbizon). It is indeed a competition for students to land an agent callback, but also an opportunity to realize money was wasted. Remember the three commercials and monologues they had us memorize back in classes? Turns out we only presented one commercial. For the social-anxiety-induced kids, that sounded like a dream come true. But why would a shy person sign up for a talent agency? One commercial and a minute total on the runway is what determined my callback that day. The showcase also heavily focused on the modeling portion, which harmed kids more interested in acting (like me). Students had no choice in which category they participated in. Agent callbacks took around two weeks, and are announced in a meeting to the parents. I got two callbacks, where the next steps were to create my resume and email the agencies regarding my callback. Barbizon doesn't even help you build a resume! They give you a template and expect you to understand how to do it AFTER the program is finished. We contacted the two agencies interested in me. One of them NEVER responded to our emails, while the other sent us down this interrogation road, not even bothering to set up a call or anything. I called Barbizon in hopes to settle this. The two times I called, nobody picked up, and I didn't get any follow-up calls either. By then, it was too late. The agency said "We'll let you know", which was just another rejection. Don't invest money or time into Barbizon. There are tons of other agencies who offer more curriculum at MUCH cheaper prices and quicker time. Most of the lessons are filler, and once a student doesn't make it, they basically give up on you. Take it from me, someone they gave up on. read more

Why in the heck did I get not 1 but 2 phone calls from them last night at 10:30pm asking to speak to my girls. BEWARE OF THIS AGENCY! I signed up my daughter for modeling classes in Jan 2017. I signed a 12 month contract, made a down payment of $300, and agreed to pay monthly payments of $239.00. The crook, Marilu, stated that my daughter would have the opportunity to make-up any missed sessions, but when I called to schedule a make-up session the front office said I had to call back the following week. I was told my daughter would need to restart the program. I refused and I stopped paying because my daughter had missed a total of 5 sessions, which Barbizon refused to make-up. When I stopped the monthly payments Barbizon sent my account to National Credit Collection Agency. These people have harassed me and they are demanding that I pay double the contract value. I've filed a complaint with the BBB and I'm speaking with an attorney as well. Marilu is a liar and she will sell you a song and a dance. They do not allow you to observe your child while in class because they do not provide the lessons that they've agreed to provide. Please DO NOT patronize this agency. Find an agency that is legitimate and that will give your child the services you pay for. read more
