The food was very delicious and the service was on point. We had the whole crab and let me tell you, it was enough for two people. It was delicious and of course fresh. Well we came here like others after seeing the huge lineup at the restaurant across the street and also they only have shellfish there, not a big fan. So we tired this place, very nice and quiet. Staff was very friendly. Started with some tasty buttered warm toast. We had nice fresh orange juice and sangria. All the drinks were good. We went to have sardines, mahi mahi and sole. The sardines were ok but salty apparently. The mahi mahi wasn't cooked to our surprise when we tried to de bone it. The waiter was shocked and took it back to be cooked some more. Then I tried my sole, same thing, the inside wasn't cooked and he took that back too. Not impressed. The mahi mahi wasn't even close to being cooked, way off. So we finished up, it was ok once they were cooked. Mahi mahi was good. Sole was ok. But either was awesome, just ok. It also wasn't a cheap restaurant for Lisbon. For what you get I would say it's too expensive. I am new to Lisbon so I can't compare yet but I look forward to trying other restaurants, and I hope they are better but I'd this is the second best in Lisbon, I fear I'm in trouble. read more

My husband and I tried the Percebes here for the first time. The server showed us how to eat them. They looked strange and ugly but tasted very good. We shared a seafood platter with a side of mixed salad and rice pudding for dessert. The seafood platter was excellent. Also this was the first time we ever had the shrimp with its eggs on the outside. Loved the house made hot sauce on the mixed salad. The pudding was delicious. Excellent service. read more

Just a one-minute block away from Ramiro, we passed by Barcabela before heading over there, only to realize Ramiro didn't have the percebes (goose barnacles) we came for. We saw some in the window here, so we came back to have some. A soccer game was on, so everyone was pretty focused on it, and it got a lot more packed than when we first got there. We asked for just a small plate of percebes to try and a small bottle of white wine to split. Our server brought us waters and when the percebes came out, he helped us out and showed us how to eat them. We really appreciated it! It had a very low-key, laid back atmosphere, which we enjoyed. Service was still very friendly and pretty attentive, even with the game on. Had we been hungrier, we definitely would've stayed to eat some more! read more

Ramiro had a 1.5 hour wait so we strolled down to Barcabela and ordered what we hoped to get at Ramiro--grilled dorade (sea bream), barnacles, shrimp and clam rice and grilled scarlet prawns. Worst choice ever. Second to last night and I chose this spot and am supremely regretful. Everything was off, no cocktail sauce, slow service (he forgot our water) my grilled cod was overcooked and my friends octopus only got a couple bites. The food was drenched in olive oil and onions, the only thing edible was the vegetables. Ordered oysters which I'm pretty sure were expired, just tasted off. I think the same for the cod, they tasted and smelled funny. Worried I'll have bathroom issues tomorrow. I don't know if they thought they could just give us extremely subpar food without us noticing but I was highly upset and hope I can prevent anyone that reads this from going to this restaurant. read more

Newly arrived in Lisbon and somewhat fried after a long day of travel, we wanted dinner close to our hotel. This place fit the bill, a 2 minute walk down the street. A bustling little place with some tables on the sidewalk and some inside. We chose the latter and were immediately seated. It's a seafood restaurant but they have a few meat dishes as well. It's a limited menu but met our need. My clams came all by themselves, a lot of them, in a big dish with a garlic-and-olive oil sauce so good that I used most of the (excellent) bread soaking it up and requested more. No side veggies though; this place is seriously seafood. My wife had shrimp in a spicier garlic sauce and it was very good, too. We don't know Portuguese wine that well, but the red one we picked went fine with the food. If you need a solid seafood fix, this place should be on your list. read more

If you can get past the beggar coming right up to your table and sticking his hand in your face, and the smokers around you (if you sit outside), and the boisterous (aka super loud) restaurant owner next door, and the rude staff and finally the patrons sitting next to you who are literally spitting the shells out of their mouth and onto the table, this may just be the place for you. It wasn't for us. The seafood, while fresh, was one note. Overly oiled and in canola oil too which made it taste like movie theater popcorn. Will say that those who ordered the clam appetizer and broiled lobster looked good. We can say the bread was very good. read more

They say it´s the second best seafood restaurant in Lisbon. The very best one is said to be just across the crossing. Nevertheless local people don´t hesitate and insist that's nonsense. According to them Cervejaria Barcabel is fantastic and other restaurants are only tourist attractions :D Aquariums with lobsters and crabs can cause some concern in some people, but they cause terrible hunger in me :D Their seafood soup was perfect and crab was simply delicious. Our friends had prawns, my husband had dorada (or sea bream) - and suddenly there was silence and fierce concentration at our table. Simply a culinary paradise - with no exaggeration :D Very good wine for less than eight euros, and very fast service. Just the 10 euro cover charge raised our adrenaline level - a pity, otherwise everything was groovy :) Prý druhá nejlepší seafood restaurace v Lisabonu. Ta úplně nejlepší je prý naproti přes křižovatku. Místní ovšem neváhají a tvrdí, že je to blbost. Že prý Cervejaria Barcabela je fantastická a ostatní jen předražené atrakce pro turisty :D Akvária s humry a kraby vzbuzují v někom mírné obavy, ve mně hrozný hlad :D Jejich seafood polévka byla bez chyby a krab prostě luxusní. Kolegové si dali krevety, můj muž doradu, neboli pražmu - a u stolu zavládlo soustředěné ticho. Prostě kulinářský ráj - bez nadsázky :D Velmi pěkné víno za ani ne osm eur, velmi svižná obsluha. Great crabs! We love it so much. Compared with another restaurant, where is 60 meter away, is much cheaper and you don't need to wait for a long queue to get the high quality seafood. The drawback is that the service is not good at English but the communication was ok. For the food I would like to go there again. read more

The shrimp rice with clams is way too salty, it smells like they added salted fish. We were mistaken of having some white rice, but it is a hot pot like congee with shrimp and clams. The grilled codfish soak in butter and olive oil without much taste and could be grilled a bit more. Sorry not recommended by us. Btw, the bread is not free. It was served without asking. read more

Same as other reviews, the wait for Ramiro's was too long. We were glad we tried Barcabela; fresh seafood Portuguese style. Clams were out of this world delicious, served with nice hot bread to soup up all the broth. Shrimp with garlic was great as well, cooked in delicious olive oil, very tasty. Good wine, frosted cold beers and great service. We were very happy to have stumbled across Barcabela. read more

The queue for Ramira was just too long so we wandered around and came upon this gem. Filled with locals / decent prices, fresh seafood, and a friendly waiter. The gambas was awesome followed by shrimp rice and grilled squid. We couldn't finish it - watch out for the hot buttery toasted bread - it's delicious but filling.
