This is in the tourist area of Cascais, but it was recommended to me by the hotel. It is located right behind the police station. They are closed on Wednesday. This is the only restaurant in Portugal that asked for a tip. Afterwards I realized they ripped me off because VAT was included in my meal price. Don't fall for the tip is not included, it might be because I am American. My server was on the grumpy side and never once smiled, but I think that is his personality, he smiled for no one. Food: I ordered the pasta with chile, calamari, and shrimp. It was a unique pasta with garlic and tiny amounts of ginger, that played very well and there was like 2 chile rings and then calamari and shrimp. The pasta was cooked perfectly and right amount of sauce that just played well together. The calamari was cooked to perfection as was the shrimp but a few were not cleaned properly but everything tasted good. The chile did have a tiny bite so somebody might think this is spicy but was not for me, finally something with flavor. I did not eat all the pasta because then I ordered the octopus. The octopus was not cleaned properly but the texture was spot on and the taste was great, I added some of my own hot sauce on the side to give it some kick. Odd to have a boiled egg with the octopus, good taste but the green ring indicates the egg was overcooked. Everything was temperature hot and served fairly quickly. WiFi available. I should have just ordered the pasta because that was fantastic! The octopus was okay but took some work to clean. The pasta gives this place a 5. Service and tip with VAT already included would drop to 2. The octopus is 3 stars. But the pasta was the best meal thus far in Portugal. read more

This is a quaint seafood place frequented by celebs. The restaurant is located in Cascais center, between the bay and the fish market. If you enjoy seafood, this is the restaurant to visit. We went as a group of 10+ with a reservation. It got pretty busy at dinner time. Try their recommended Portuguese red wine. It was one of the best that I have had. We did the Menu 3 with Seabass, Tuna, Swordfish and Sole. The fish was perfectly done and served with garlic olive oil. The service was exemplary. read more

Wasn't impressed with this restaurant. We ordered the garlic shrimp which was just basic and then the Seafood stew. Pretty much inedible, the fish was awful (two kinds), it was way overcooked and tasted terrible. There were 4 tiny mussels, a few shrimp and all that awful fish. You pay for everything (as is usual in Europe), the bread, water, olives but the breads were quite good for dipping. Cacais is a beach town that's a short drive from Lisbon. Towards the end of our trip, we took a day trip to the area. The weather was slightly chilly so while we didn't enjoy the beach much, we did have dinner at Restaurante O Pescador. While this seafood restaurant isn't right on the beach, it's super close. The restaurant was recommended in our guide book. We sat outside on the patio and started off with some sangria. The sangria was a little watered down. The same could be said about their free WiFi. While they had it, it barely works to the point it's not usable. But hey, I'm here to talk about the food. I ordered the tiger shrimp which was a phenomenal dish. We're talking an enormous tiger shrimp which is cut into two and served in its shell accompanied by lemon and roasted potatoes. The potatoes were bland but the shrimp was so flavorful. Tiger shrimp is so good that it tastes a lot like lobster. Highly recommend this dish! Service was standard. read more

Going to buck the trend here and give O Pescador 3 stars only. Yes, it's got fresh seafood (so does dozens of other restaurants in the area). Yes it's got a lovely outdoor patio with street musicians and lively people watching, but doesn't that describe several other restos up and down that same street? And yes, you can have three courses and wine for about 50 euros which is likely half the price you'd pay in London, Paris, Madrid, or North America. But you're not in those places, so you don't get extra stars for that. That'd be like giving the hot dog guy at Fenway Park five stars because you can't get hot dogs in Paris. I had the seafood salad (excellent) and the Cataplana for one (menu doesn't have it but I asked and they offered for a small price adjustment -- ie. divide the 2p price by two and add 3 Euros). The salad was great (and quite alot) but the Cataplana was only so-so. Lots of shellfish (shrimp, clams, mussels) and a ton of big chunks of meaty fish. But the fish was overcooked and the whole thing was a bit bland. (I've had better Cataplana in Toronto.) Wasn't happy with the bread/olives trick (3.5 Euros pp and they just put it on the table with a quiet "you'd like bread and olives right?"). I should have been wary of that as it's not my first time in Europe but I was tired and not paying attention. The service was OK, the patio was nice and they gave you an enormous amount of food. But the quality just wasn't there for me, and it left me with a "ho-hum" impression. read more

In April 2022 I sent an email to make a reservation on "Thursday, 25 August at 20H." This reservation was confirmed in June before our August departure to Portugal. On the 25th we arrived around 30 minutes early. Despite it being Festas do Mar, the outside tables were mostly empty. I stated my last name and that we had a reservation at 8PM. A server piped up and said, "Samuel Bradford?" "Yes," I responded. "You had another reservation on Tuesday and didn't show up." "I wasn't even in Cascais on Tuesday. I didn't have another reservation." The man who had remembered my full name for not showing up for a reservation that I didn't make sat us at a table and said, "You will pay 2 bills tonight" as he walked off. I looked at my wife and we agreed to get out of there. Why would I trust a server who had memorized my name for a supposed reservation no-show? ... "I don't like your attitude," I told him when he approached as we were leaving. "I was joking about the double bill." "It wasn't just that." "Maybe someone made a mistake with the reservations." ... Maybe he should have thought about that before he started bitching at me when I first walked up to his restaurant with my wife for the first time. We went to another restaurant around the corner and spent our 125 Euros there instead and had a wonderful meal. O Pescador and Fora de Pe, their sister restaurant, can both go to hell. We won't be back ever. And if you'll notice, O Pescador has disabled reviews on their Facebook page. That doesn't surprise me. read more

Wow. Great fresh seafood! This is a must do when your in Cascais! We had the steam clams, oysters and mussels and they cooked it to perfection with garlic olive oil. Appeared to be a nice old fashioned seafood restaurant from the 60's, but really sad waiters, overpriced food, and just bad overall. As there are three seafood joints in a row on this little strip behind the police station, this is the one to pick! Incredible service (not pushy like some of the other tourist places). Quaint decor and lovely outdoor space (weather permitting). The menu is extensive...we really struggled with what to get! We settled on the paella with lobster and prawns for two. Probably the best meal we had while in Portugal. There was no shortage of shellfish in this dish! The rice was seasoned well (though it mentions "spicy" rice...decidedly not spicy). There were little chunks of pork, which actually seemed unnecessary to the whole of the dish. They were also a bit dry and I mostly picked them out. I liked the addition of the sausage though; it offset the flavors of the seafood. For good seafood, I thought the prices were reasonable. For two couverts, a bottle of house wine, two more glasses of wine, bottled water, and the paella we landed at 108 euro. Not bad at all in my book for a good meal. read more

I am disappointed at best. The lobster was nearly 200 euros, for it to have lacking flavor and off-putting texture. Possibly the worst lobster I've ever eaten. The food took ages to be prepared. I would've ordered the crab, but the Waiter warned us that it would take around 40 minutes to cook and the lobster would be quicker. Despite this, the lobster still took around 40 minutes to get there. The sauce and lemon didn't improve the bad taste. Service was just alright, although I did appreciate the abundance of shade in such overwhelming heat. Had I ordered another dish, I may have had a different experience. The other people I dined with didn't note anything to be particularly great, although the presentation of all of the food was stellar. read more

A fabulous seafood restaurant in Cascais. We went here as a group and we had a set menu. The staff were super friendly and nice. They have a nice wine list and a huge selection of old ports. I can't comment on the menu as I did not see it. Our food arrived soon after we got there and starters were fabulous. The octopus tender and delicious, nice calamari and also lovely Jamon and breads. The main course of fried fish and a local rice dish was divine. So simple yet so tasty. I had two servings of the main course ;-) the waiter offered me a third but I politely refused :-) Dessert was nothing to write home about but the port was nice to finish the evening. This is the best restaurant we had on our Portugal trip. This is the first restaurant I've been to where they start you off with rounds of cheese and had some battered meatballs. Great way to start. The chips is crispy and a big hit, freshly fried. We ordered 7 rounds I think. Overall the biggest hit was the hit was the cod. Tender and flavourful with a crispy skin. Another big hit were the tiger prawns. So bi, we don't get it this size in Toronto. It was grlled outside and inside were perfect. Juicy and tender The scallops were large, fresh and fried perfectly. A friend thought it was undercooked but it in have eaten it raw and it was actually perfect according to another friemd. Ambiance was good but service wasn't tha great which I have found in Portugal. This place is probably the best seafood restaurant I've ever been to. Located in Cascais, the beach town of the high rollers of Europe, this place was recommended to me by a few locals that we met. It's tucked away in a very small side street, easily accessible by foot - not so much car (behind the police station) - from the moment you walk into this establishment, you feel like royalty. In fact, because of my experience here, it is what I will hold every restaurant to going forward. Firstly let me say that this place isn't shmancy and the prices are indicative of that. However, what you get is fresh, delicious, affordable seafood. We ordered the Octopus and Grouper. Absolutely divine. Octopus was perfectly cooked. Grouper was to die for. Oh and I forgot, I also ordered the Lobster soup. What an amazing decision that was. Portions were unreal. Accompaniments were out of this world and the service - my god - was precedent setting. All for about 40 euros all in. That meal would cost at least $200 in North America. This place is a hidden gem that is definitely worth checking out if you're in the area. read more

Guess I was expecting more after eating at one if the other fish restaurants. Service was good, and they don't rush you. What a lovely little place off the Main Street in Caiscas. The grilled seabass/seabreem merits 5 stars-served piping hot with hints of salt and olive oil-wow! Wish a small green salad accompanied it. The bread platter (for which they charge) includes almonds, olives, olive oil and a fishy paste of unknown ingredients. We also had a glass of vinho verde (which probably screams tourist!) but was served ice cold and was really light and mineraly which is how I like it. For dessert I had the fresh papaya with lime which was sweet and yummy. My husband had the port/chocolate cake combo which did not disappoint. Service was a bit indifferent and we waited quite some time for our food although we were not in a hurry and the pleasant breeze under our umbrella on the patio made for a really comfortable way to pass the afternoon. This might be my favorite restaurant in Portugal. We had the snapper for four. It was delicious and so fresh! The waiter, João, who was fantastic by the way, held the fish out for us to select. But he really held out the one we should pick (picture attached). Then he filleted it for us (video attached). And suggested a fabulous wine (picture attached). I had the most magical night here w my good pal Barbara. After a day of shopping and enjoying the seaside-we relaxed on this patio and enjoyed impeccable service, the freshest fish, and local color!! What a fantastic seafood restaurant in Cascais! We ordered prawns, cod, grilled octopus and a steak - family style - and we didn't leave a morsel! The seafood is so fresh and flavorful and the steak melts in your mouth.
