Seafood paradise here with some interesting selections! We tried barnacles for the first time, which tasted salty like the sea and a bit chewy. Didn't really do it for me, but the SO liked them. Everything we had was fresh and good: I loved the shrimp in garlic and clams in garlic so much we ordered the razor clams after. The tiger prawns and scallops were delicious too. You must keep the bread to sop up all the yummy sauces. Simply prepared to let the star ingredients, the seafood, shine! I wish they would devein the shrimp though. The restaurant was packed! Reservations are an absolute must and available 3 months in advance with a €50 deposit.
If seafood is your love language, Cervejaria Ramiro is the Lisbon institution that lives up to every bit of its legendary status. We started with oysters, pristine and briny, served ice-cold and clean--no frills, just absolute freshness. From there, the clams in garlic and olive oil arrived bubbling and aromatic, the kind of dish you have to mop up with bread until the bowl is spotless. The showstopper? The giant tiger prawns, presented simply and perfectly cooked--sweet, meaty, and impossibly tender. And then came the crab, cracked open tableside, paired with Ramiro's famously rich, indulgent crab mixture (yes, the one everyone talks about). It's decadent, savory, and completely unapologetic. The vibe is classic Lisbon--buzzy, efficient, no-nonsense--yet the quality of the seafood feels luxe in the best way. Service is fast, knowledgeable, and keeps the parade of shellfish flowing seamlessly. Important tip: while walk-ins are possible, it's much better to have a reservation unless you're happy waiting--this place is packed for a reason. Come hungry, order generously. Cervejaria Ramiro isn't just a meal--it's a Lisbon rite of passage.
We went for dinner on New Year's Eve so probably not your normal everyday experience. It was pre-booked/ paid yet there was still a line to enter. The line took ~10 minutes. We were sat upstairs even though we requested to sit downstairs. Food delivers to the table very quickly so don't worry if you aren't sure how much food to order. You can always order more and it will still arrive quickly. The food was about 50/50 good. Razor clams and giant prawns delicious. Giant prawns could have used a little more char. The clams bulhao was extremely sandy - not great. We also tried the (supposed) spicy prawns. The prawn quality was fine but there was zero spice. Wine can be ordered by the glass bottle or half bottle which was a nice option. Our server was nice and efficient. Overall the seafood was hit or miss that day.
All my friends said this was a must try restaurant in Lisbon, and after visiting, I have to agree. I was lucky that day since there was no wait for a table. After checking the menu, I noticed it's mostly seafood, so if you don't eat seafood or are vegetarian, I wouldn't recommend it. But otherwise, this place truly lives up to the hype. I love crab, and I had the best crab of my life here! The shrimp was my second favorite, and I saw many people ordering the clams and garlic shrimp as well. The service was excellent too! Yeah and the bread was so good! I reminded myself that when I checked in this place.
When in Lisbon, Ramiro is a must. This place was recommended to us by both tourists and locals alike. If possible, I'd recommend making a reservation here unless you don't mind a long wait. A local told me reservations aren't necessary and they'll always have a table for you - this is true but it may come with an 1.5 hour wait attached. This was true in our case. You take a number and wait either outside or in their lounge area. The lounge felt a bit hacky to me but it's a good option for drinking and relaxing while you wait. There's a pour-your-own-pint option which was like a vending machine but for beer - pretty cool. The bathroom in the lounge area was really dirty and needed to be serviced. The outside waiting area can get crowded but is a better atmosphere than the lounge. However, the cheesy lounge, dirty bathroom, and long wait were all forgotten once we sat down. I was pleased to see an even mix between tourists and Portuguese people in our section. As much hype as this place gets, it's not a tourist trap. This is some of the best seafood I've ever had at some of the most reasonable prices I've ever seen. We ordered spider crab, gambas, clams, prawns, and barnacles. I was in seafood heaven. Everything is perfectly cooked and seasoned simply but excellently. The seafood is so fresh it doesn't need much but the quality of butter, garlic, and olive oil shines through. Even the simple buttered bread they give you was delicious - using it to mop up the sauce from the clams and the delicious soup in the spider crab shell was just chef's kiss. We ended up paying only 120 euros for all the food (excluding drinks we had while we waited). For that amount of seafood and at that quality? That price is absurd! Service was friendly and struck the perfect balance between attentive and laidback. I loved that they even showed us the live spider crab before they cooked it - that's how you know everything is super fresh here! I would 1000% return to Ramiro in a heartbeat.
I made a reservation for one waaaaaaay before I got to Lisbon. I requested to be seated by the window when I made the reservation. I arrive at the restaurant at 7pm. Upon checking in, the host pointed me to the outdoor seating, which was perfect. But when I got to the entrance of the outdoor area, the guy was telling the host something in Portuguese and told me to go back cuz they have a table for me inside. They did have a table for me inside -- next to the restroom, tucked away in a little corner, furthest from a window, which is not what I requested for. cream cheese was soooooo good! Buttery smooth spread over the bread! Warning: it smells like feet! Oysters were nothing special. No extra toppings to put in it for extra flavor. Tasted like oysters. Garlic shrimp was soooooo amazing! I love how salty it was! I love garlic, so it was perfection for me. I could eat this all day everyday! It's also already peeled, so it saves you from getting your hands dirty. The lobster roll was also heavenly. The bread is sweet and soft. I would order this over and over and over again. I was concerned at how some might consider this a little expensive for the portion, but I totally understand why. OMG! The scallop is to die for! Another favorite of mine! I loved how simple it was with the oil and lemon. The smokiness of it made it better. Tasted and smelled Smokey, which I've never experienced with scallops before! YUMMMM! Songkor took great care of me. Attentive and he gave great suggestions! Glad it turned out that I had him as a server. Thank you!
One of the absolute best dining experiences I've had ever! This place is a must if you're in Lisbon. The seafood is so fresh and well prepared, we got a ton of different things but our favorites were the giant prawns, barnacles, razor clams and the steak sandwich. The servers are wonderful and there's constant action happening around the restaurant which makes it a ton of fun!

We made reservations maybe a week or two in advance, which i highly suggest- this restaurant was on a tv show and a few reputable list. The line grew for those without reservations outside. The suggested we share and just order family style, which Insecond because it's a way to try multiple items and honestly, i didn't understand the pricing - if it was by lb or plate. still don't know lol A MUST is the spicy shrimp, scarlet shrimp, the shrimp that came on the brass/copper bowl (first pick). While in portugal, it is a must (if you're open and adventurous) to try Barnacles. We tried a very small amount first - the waiter taught us how to eat them -- we enjoyed them and ordered a bit more! We also order the clams and king spikey crab (which we met before he time ended - never a fan of that - don't even like to see them swimming in the fish tank) In lisbon, you pay for the culvert and you are not typically asked if you want it- they just hand you bread and butter and other appetizers and it appears on the receipt (butter, too is itemized). There is patio seating, bottom floor and upstairs seating -- the vibe is antique, bright, and fancy but don't feel pressured to dress up.
Cervejaria Ramiro lives up to the hype--super fresh seafood and unique dishes like percebes (sweet, chewy, and briny), garlic cockles, and scarlet shrimp. Great steak sandwich too for non-seafood eaters. Ice-cold beer, lively vibe, and we came w/out reservations between lunch and dinner, no wait. Totally worth it.
Not sure what more needs to be said about this seafood institution, but so so so fresh and delicious! Came for lunch and didn't have a reservation, but we were seated quickly. QR code on the table leads to an extensive menu of a variety of very fresh seafood selections. The special of the day was spicy shrimp and garlic, which we had to get. So flavorful and the bread (which is not free) is the perfect vessel to scoop up the garlicky goodness at the bottom. Also got the scallops and red scarlet shrimp (very expensive but so good especially mixed with the head). The meal was pricey but you certainly get what you pay for as the seafood here is so fresh and tasty.
Absolute perfection!! This top rated seafood restaurant in Lisbon lives up to the hype. We visited for a late lunch and got plenty of attention. Our servers recommended our entire culinary experience. It did not disappoint. From the fresh crab starter, to the lobster the server cut out and buttered for us, and everything in between was scrumptious. The Soalheiro Alvarinho Vino Verde was one of the best wines I've ever sipped. The beautiful tiles on the walls and woodwork in the ceiling added to the overall experience. It's one of the oldest restaurants in Lisboa for a reason. Bravo
Yes, this Seafood Emporium lives up to the hype!! We enjoyed the Garlic Butter clams, The Crab entree and finished with the Huge, Delicious Scarlet Prawns! We dined early for dinner and we were seated in the gorgeous upstairs terrace dining room. Our high expectations were definitely exceeded. Yes, it's pricey, but you get what you pay for here. Reservations are essential!
A friend had highly recommended this spot when I said I was going to Lisbon. It was conveniently located across the street from the hotel I stayed at. We had reservations for a party of 2 on a Saturday at 6 PM. When you check in, they give you a slip of paper which has a QR code on it for you to access the menu later, and we were promptly seated upstairs. The menu is conveniently available in several languages (you select your language at the bottom of the main menu page). We were at a long table for 6, with us sitting on the inside and another couple sitting at the end, and the table settings in between us were cleared, so it didn't feel like we were on top of one another. I appreciated that the server gave recommendations that would be good for two people. We went with most of his recommendations (shrimps on garlic sauce (it's labeled as spicy, but it's really not), clams on garlic, tiger prawns grilled on bed of salt) and added some of our own (razor clams and lobster roll). All the seafood tasted fresh, bursting with flavor from the buttery garlic sauce, which we sopped up with garlic bread. The bread is brought to the table when you first get seated. It's not free, which I was aware of, but I knew it would go well with the dishes we ordered. The razor clams were juicy and sweet. The lobster roll was good, but not something I would order again when there's so many other fantastic seafood choices. I usually don't drink beer, but felt that it was appropriate since we were at a cervejaria, so I ordered a bottle of Sagres Bohemia. It went perfectly with the seafood. My SO, who doesn't drink alcohol, got peach iced tea. I wanted to get the prego sandwich for dessert, but my SO was pretty much full at that point, so I ordered a tarte whisky and a cappuccino for myself. The whisky ice cream layer in the tarte was nice and refreshing. I was shocked when we got the bill and it came out to less than 50€. This meal would have cost so much more in the US. You pay via tablet at the end and I left a generous tip in appreciation of the wonderful meal and service. They get you in and out of there quick, but it never felt like we were being rushed out. I highly recommend this spot if you are looking for some fresh, delicious seafood in Lisbon. read more

A great seafood shellabration here! Came here with rave Yelp reviews and friend recommendations. We came during an off time so it wasn't as busy. You check in and then they ask you wait in their waiting area next door which looks a little bare and the outside patio seems like a smoking area. After we were called, we walked upstairs to a brightly-lit dining room. Lots of serving staff and all very friendly. Their menu is extensive and it's great they have photos too! My favorites had to be the giant tiger prawn, razor clams, and the crab head, but everything was tasted good and the seafood tasted fresh. Would recommend! read more

Meh. Have wanted to go here for the longest time. Was seated immediately. Service is fine, not unpleasant in the slightest but also kind of... disinterested and lazy? Like drops off your food without a word, doesn't check in to see how things are, etc. I tip abroad because I'm accustomed to it but this is def one of those places I felt like I was being a little bit too generous at when I left one. Shrimp were absolutely fire. Would get those again in a heartbeat. Bread was very good bread with butter. But like...? Not exactly a culinary masterpiece. Clams were below average. Not terrible or anything, but I've had way better at restaurants not lauded for seafood. At the end of the day I just felt like I ate a lot of butter and garlic so of course it was tasty but do I think they're doing anything special or noteworthy? Not at all. If the service or atmosphere had been amazing maybe I would have felt otherwise. It's also expensive for Lisbon without any reason to justify the price. read more
I saw some mixed reviews about coming here beforehand but still wanted to check it out. Turned out to be the best seafood re had in Lisbon! Came around 8 pm on a Sunday and we must have been really lucky because they took us in without a reservation almost right away. The server was great! He gave a lot of recommendations and even joked around with us. He was helpful despite us not knowing Portuguese. We ordered their garlic clams, tiger prawns, oysters, and their crab. Everything was fresh from their live tanks and cooked well. We actually got two orders of garlic bread too (SO DELICIOUS along with their olive oil). Everything came out to around 110 euros for 4 ppl, arguably pricier than other places but still a good deal for Americans. Next time though, just to avoid the hassle, we will probably do without the crab because taking off the shell was work. Next time. read more
First meal in Portugal and it did not disappoint. We had barnacles very strange. They tasted very clamy. We shared clams, boiled shrimp, scallops on the half shell. Lots of garlic and butter. My nose is running from the shrimp. I'm allergic. Worth it. The service was great. You can end up sharing your table and the locals are very helpful. read more
Mixed reviews on social media? Exceeded expectations for Lisa E and I. On a rainy night, we were seated in the cozy enclosed outdoor room with the patter of rain above our heads and a window view of a washed out street scene . We ordered a nice bottle of wine, to accompany a succession of amazing shellfish. Perceibes, clams in garlic, razor clams, giant prawns, scarlet prawns, and grilled scallops. All fabulous, but I would have been happy with more of those sensational scarlets. 5 stars for setting, service, seafood! P.S.- we went back for scarlet shrimp a week late, and ended our meal with prego (steak sandwich) for dessert ( see Lisa E. review for her perspective). read more

One of the best meal we had in Lisbon! Fresh, sweet seafood from local. Service is efficient! We made a reservation online for 3, and ended up adding one more person. They were very accommodating. Warm and friendly atmosphere. Nice staff. We were in and out within 90 minutes. Highly recommend to make a reservation in advance. But if you couldn't, try to walk in. We saw people got in during earlier dinner time and were seated right away. read more

Absolutely amazing spot! Food was delicious and service was the absolute best! We got the crab (which had a soup made of the filling) and hammers to open the legs, the jumbo shrimp, bread, and the barnacles. We actuallu got the couvert this time since the bread looked so good and it was already buttered and crispy. Our server was . He explained how to eat everything (barnacles and crab) and noticed every small detail. He noticed when we dropped the little hammer immediately and brought a new one. He also noticed when one of our cloths dropped and brought a new one as well. He honestly deserved a 25% tip! read more

One of our best meals in Lisbon! We absolutely loved the Scarlett shrimp and the Giant Tiger Prawns. The price on the menu is per kg, our Giant Tiger Prawns and Scarlett prawns ended up costjng approximately $20 each. The Giant Tiger prawns are as long as lobsters and have a nice meaty bite. The Scarlett shrimp has a sweeter flavor and the head juices are super umami and almost taste like truffle! Both of these seafood dishes rank amongst some of the rest seafood I have ever had in my life. We arrived without a reservation right at opening at noon on a Thursday and were seated immediately with no wait. Half an hour later the restaurant became pretty full though so I would recommend coming right at opening time. read more
I was told this is one of the best in the world so I had to try it. It really is great!!! A wide variety of delicious things from the sea. The staff is fantastic and informative especially if you are overwhelmed by the selection. They have crabs from small, to medium, to oh my god where did that come from? Reservations are tough so make them well in advance. I placed my reservation the minute my date was available, which was about three months in advance. The place is hoping with energy. We sat upstairs away from some of the frenzy. I was very pleasantly surprised by the cost as compared to the quality of service and food. A truly wonderful dining experience. read more

From what I can tell, this place is essentially like a Portuguese Peter Luger's, but for seafood: It's legendary. It's hard to get into without a reservation made in advance. It's a little pricey. The servers don't waste any time on pleasantries and bullshit, they are all business. The room and the tables outside are nice, but not overly nice. They definitely have a reputation they are riding on, but the food is still great. We ordered scarlet prawns, and spider crab, and Iberian ham, and the Al Ajillo Especial, and much more. We ate the weird crab soup they make in the spider crab skull, and we smashed crab legs with mallets and caught shrapnel from other tables as they did the same. We drank wine, and enjoyed it all... ...but if I'm being honest, I didn't need anything except the Amêijoa Bulhão Pato (clams in garlic) and the bread and butter to soak up the juice. I love these little clams. I could probably die happy with just that, and I'll come back for more next time I'm in town. read more

I made reservations for this spot because I've seen all over social media that this place gets packed and that the food was amazing. I would have to agree with many that Cervejaria Ramiro is so worth a try. We were seated outside, which was totally fine because the weather was perfect. There were a few servers assigned to our table and some provided better service than others. As for the seafood, everything was truly super fresh. The way they cook it is so simple, yet delicious. I got the shrimp, clams, scallops, oysters, and the spider crab. Our server recommended to get the spider crab because it's served hot and they cook it right when we order. She even brought out the crab to show us. It's a must to order some buttery garlic bread to pair with your meal. Also ordered wine and it was so inexpensive! The whole meal was so worth it. I'd say it's a must try if you visit Lisbon. read more
Came a little early to wait before they opened at noon on a Tuesday and were seated right away. There were already some people waiting outside by the time we got there. We ordered: - Razor Clams: garlicky and juicy we used the garlic bread they serve to soak up the juice - Edible Crab: great for spreading on the garlic bread for some texture - Rock Lobster: super sweet, fresh, and meaty Service was a little pushy and not the friendliest, the waiter came immediately to our table to get our order when we hadn't had a chance to look at the menu yet. Fresh seafood. Everything they brought us was still living minutes before. Huge lobsters, shrimp, crab, etc. Supposed to drink beer here as it is a cervejaria. Loved the intimate atmosphere and quick service. Their "small" lobster was the biggest lobster I'd ever seen. read more
Ignore the negitive Nancys, believe the hype. This is a fun, get your hands dirty seafood restaurant within a 20 min walking distance from Rossio and not far by train. We visited twice..once, being amazingly fortunate to be seated on the outdoor"patio" really a greenhouse type of portico. This set a wonderful mood, with the rain pouring down and the tram whizzing by. It was dim and romantic. When we returned 10 days later, it was inside the more hectic, bright dining room. Still, the food is fresh & superb, the menu is simple, the staff hustling but with a few smiles and some humor. They move a shit ton of people thru this place daily. Everything was spot on, reasonable. But the star for Lee was the Scarlett Shrimp, something that we do not see often in NY. They are tender and sweet, cut in half like a croissant and there is a little puddle of roe that is eaten with a tiny spoon. Expensive, but a treat (99Euro/Kg) Razor clams, clams in garlic & butter, scallops, big prawns..yum !! Glad to experience the barnacles (percebes) but once was enough. On the second visit we enjoyed the Prego dessert. Do not hesitate to make a reservation here (a must). All of our dining experiences were wonderful, but thankful that we did not pay attention to the naysayers calling this a tourist trap. After all, we are tourists..but this was no trap. Our waiter even recommended his favorite seafood restaurant, and we actually preferred Ramiro. read more
We made reservations for dinner on a Tuesday at 5pm. As an FYI they do charge a deposit that will be applied to your final bill. We got there and they led us to our table upstairs. It gave off an upscale vibe with all the white tablecloths. The seafood itself was pretty good and drowned in butter which I personally love. The sauces from the seafood dishes were so good that we kept mopping it up with the bread. read more
We walked in for an early dinner around 17:30 and there was no wait. The tiger shrimp with butter was delicious. The garlic shrimp was so good we kept the sauce to dip all our other items in. The spider crab was a bit difficult to eat, but worth the work. Also tried razor clams - the soup/sauce it was served in was delicious as well. It would have been great to have a side of linguini to use up the sauce! Langoustines were a first for me, but I think I prefer the tiger shrimp. The seafood was fresh, service was good and the restaurant is very clean and bright. I love that they have a sink for handwashing in the dining area so you don't have to go to the WC. Would definitely return if I came back to Lisbon. read more

Had an awesome lunch at Cervejaria Ramiro. The crab selection was unreal--so fresh and full of flavor, easily some of the best I've had. The staff made the experience even better. Super friendly and welcoming, and they actually took the time to show me how to crack crab like a local, which was both helpful and fun. The vibe was lively and upbeat, with a great, easygoing atmosphere that makes you want to hang out and enjoy every bite. Amazing seafood, great people, and a place that totally lives up to the hype.
