We stopped into this little convenience store for a drink, snack, and quick restroom break. FYI - There are no public restrooms available, but there are Porto Potty's outside. There is a little photo op area with a hand carved wooden bald eagle which is pretty cool and the owner was friendly enough to chat with us for a few minutes. Several notable highlights are: Barcelona used to be called Portland Harbor but was renamed in the 1800's; the store sells a variety of Stewart's soda, which was one of my favorites growing up in NY; you can purchase a hunting/fishing license here; the store sells bate-n-tackle; has UPS shipping available, and sits next to the Barcelona Lighthouse, which is one of the oldest oil-lite lighthouses still standing from the 1800's; however, transitioned to natural gas in 1831, making it the oldest natural gas lit light house in the U.S., and the world, pretty cool! There is not a lot of other stores in the area, so if you are passing through you might want to stop for gas and anything else you need while you have a chance. There was another small rest area just up the road at the Daniel Reed Memorial Pier with indoor restrooms but everything was locked up and a sign said closed for the season. All-in-all, it got the job done and I recommend them. read more

Service is A+! Very clean and comfy with delish breakfast. The eggs we very fluffy and the toast was nice and thick. Seems like a spot that locals frequent - we discovered it just driving around. I must say the diner booths are some of the most comfortable I've ever rested my buns on. We came in for breakfast but they look to have a great selection of local beers and wine. read more

Well I certainly didn't have the same experience as most it seems, but then again I had no reason to go inside and meet the proprietor who has been the subject of most of the negative reviews. I stopped here for gas and believe me there aren't many choices around here so I was somewhat surprised to see the prices were very competitive. If I have anything to complaint about it's that the gas pump's latching mechanism didn't work so I had to improvise. I'll deduct a star for it if for no other reason than to not completely discredit the other reviews, it seems this place can be somewhat puzzling depending on when you arrive and what services you're looking for. We stopped by here twice during our 4 day stay at a nearby cabin. Once we popped in to the store for bait and some cookies. The cashier was friendly and accepted my credit card with no issues. The cookies were great and we didn't come to use the bathroom. The second time we went to the cafe for breakfast. We were disappointed that there was no kids menu and the waitress wasn't warm and fuzzy, but the food was good and the service was acceptable. The kids ate everything single thing they ordered which has happened just about never. Between us, we got a bagel sandwich, pancake sampler, cinn French toast, home fries and toast, and a short stack. The total was over $40 which was probably the most expensive meal on this trip. read more

Worse place I've ever stopped at! My husband went in before me and she let him use the restroom if he bought something, which he did and then I went in and my husband warned me about her to make sure I bought something she probably wouldn't let me use the restroom if not so I purchased items she then told me I had to spend more than $5 so I did then after I purchase the items she would not let me use the restroom and told me to go down the road to use it after she told me if I bought something I could use the restroom!! Very very rude you should have simply said I do not have a restroom don't play someone to buy items from your store and then tell them to go down the road and use a public bathroom, and I'm white so she's not racist she's just a b**** read more

I stop there a lot.i love the staff there. Always poite. They are very friendly and helpful. I just moved down the street, and they have been very welcoming. They usually have what I need. From snacks to dog food. read more

The owner was completely and utterly rude. She hassled us from the get-go and mention multiple times that bathroom was for customers only. No problem, we'll buy something. My sister had recently purchased a cup of coffee and the lady asked if it was empty. She said no, and she refused her entry into the store. Then my 3 years has been a trooper holding his bladder until we found the next restroom stop. So I ran him in side. While I'm inside the owner is almost demanding to my wife that she purchase something because "They have purchase supplies for their gas station." So she's like okay that fine and puts some cookies on the counter and had my card on her. She rudely said the minimum purchase on a credit card was $5 and she's like well it's a debit card and so replied well I need the I.D. My wife said well it's my husbands card and you just saw him take my son to the bathroom. Well if it's not your card I can't ring you out. So she came for my ID and then told her no I physically needed to purchase it myself. So I had to walk out and pay for the cookies as she took my place. Let this place be an absolute last resort if you ever need anything. She was unbelievably rude to everyone I was with. If you need something take your money elsewhere. read more

What a mean, mean person. We went in and bought ice cream so the eight year old could use the restroom, but even then she wouldn't even let him use the restroom. She insisted that we had to go "down past the white house" which turned out to be a public pier where the bathrooms were all locked up. If we could return the ice cream we would. I was just there today, left 15 minutes ago. I walked in and this large older woman with glasses and blue eyes just stares at me and my boyfriend as we walked in. Did not say hello, did not welcome us. She stared at us intently. She instantly made me speechless as she coldly asked, "Can I help you?" I wanted to purchase something to eat, and my boyfriend wanted to use the restroom. He asked her for the restroom and she said they were not public restrooms and told us where to go. She then turns and walks away. We also walked out of the store and drove away. We were in the store for less than a minute. I am stunned. read more

If I could give this place zero stars, I would. Nancy, the owner, was beyond rude to my family. We stopped to get gas and a drink, but since a truck with a trailer was blocking the pumps, we parked and went inside first. First, Nancy yelled at me about how restrooms were for customers only. When I explained that I was with my dad (who was already inside and browsing) and grabbed my drink and got in line, my dad headed for the restroom. Same deal. He said he was getting gas but couldn't at the moment. She thought he wasn't getting gas and basically kicked him out even when the (white) customer in front of me tried to explain the misunderstanding. I tried to explain too, she grabbed my coke away from me and said she didn't have to deal with this. There's plenty more to our interaction, with me trying to keep my patience, be respectful and play by her rules (cash only, pay then pee, etc) only for her to basically cut off my every sentence, insult my father to my face and become even more defensive. Drive on by...even if you really need to use a restroom, because it will be faster to drive down the road than fight with the owner who will not let you use the facilities unless you spend money. Beyond rude. Upset a child who was with us. I was outside watching my friend's 3 year old son while she pulled the car around to get gas. While outside, he did rest his hand against their front window ONE TIME before I asked him to stop. The owner ran outside to tell me they just had the glass washed and I needed to keep a better eye on my son. We picked out a few drinks and snacks inside and the owner basically said she didn't want us to use a card because we didn't spend enough money, but it was over $15? No thanks, we will shop elsewhere. read more

If I could leave -0- stars I would!!! The lady owner is HORRIBLE!!! I stopped here on travels from DC to Buffalo, NY. My 5 yr old, 7 yr old and I had to go to the restroom and we wanted a snack. I walked in (saw the bathroom w/ door open right by the front door) and told my 7 yr old to go to the bathroom. I went back to car to get my 5 yr old and my 7 yr old came out crying that the lady wouldn't let him to go the bathroom. She was essentially blocking the entrance to her store saying you can't use the bathroom unless you are a customer. She said her bathrooms were occupied and we would have to go to the bathroom across the street. I SAW THE BATHROOM AND THE TOILET - the door was wide open! It was not occupied. I said we were planning to buy something but she didn't even give me a chance to get through the front door how would she know! I went into bathroom and there was no toilet paper. I sent my 7 yr old out to ask for it and I heard the owner lady say she will have to come out for us to put toilet paper in there. I went out and asked her why she wouldn't give my child toilet paper or at least point him to a napkin. She said we were just going to replace the toilet paper when you went in. Then I said so you KNEW there was NO toilet paper in there and you let me go in. After that I didn't even want to buy anything from her! I ended up buying a water and a small bag of chips be/c I saw on the interstate there was no more exits for 20 miles. I guess I was lucky be/c she did accept my credit card, unlike the previous reviewer. I hope no one else EVER stops here! The owner lady was horrible!!! read more
