Barceló Karmina is a beautiful all-inclusive resort with stunning ocean views, lush gardens, and plenty of pools to relax by. The food is consistently good, and the nightly entertainment adds great energy to the evenings. Definitely try the specialty restaurant's! The staff are friendly and attentive, always making you feel welcome. The premium rooms are definitely worth the upgrade, very spacious, comfortable, and full of nice extras. Overall, it's a great choice for families and couples looking for a beach getaway in Manzanillo, though a few areas could use a refresh to match its full potential.

Don't do it!! 4 restaurants but can only eat out of one unless you are staying for at least 4 nights, therefore you'll have to eat the same buffet everyday. Please see picture to get an idea of how mediocre it is. We ended up bribing to get a reservation at the italian restaurant. A raccoon ended up on top of my table. Servers were indifferent to the situation. When we got our food it was trash. Lizards in the rooms, cockroaches in the elevators, small pools, no lighting around the resort at night, small game room, no valet, no help with luggage, NO WIFI!!, The only good thing was the spacious room and large gym.

We booked through Expedia for an amazing price where everything was included (breakfast/lunch/dinner, drinks, Wifi, parking, hotel room mini fridge). Cons: you have to wear a wristband for your entire stay and it cannot be removed until you check out! It's a plastic type of wristband that was uncomfortable to wear and ugly in photos. Limited pool and private beach seating so you have to either get there super early for a spot, rent a cabana for the next day for free, or wait for a spot to open up. The AC, toilet, and phone didn't work at some times so we let the front desk know to send someone up to fix it. Ran into a few creatures like a snake, iguana, lizard, etc. TV has limited English options. YOU CAN HEAR everything from your neighbor's room because the walls are so thin. We had to sleep with earplugs. To access the parking garage, you have to exit the hotel's front entrance to get to the elevator/stairwell. When going to one of the reserved restaurants and not the buffet, there is a dress code and there are signs that tell you what you can and can't wear. It seemed a little strict and was enforced. Pros: VEGAN and vegetarian options!! Tons of steamed and sautéed vegetables, vegan rice and beans, soups, etc. people complain about the food but it was actually over 30 options to choose from for every meal including a kids buffet (chicken nuggets, burgers, tacos, etc.), multiple kinds of meat (chicken, beef, fish, pork), soups, desserts, salads, vegan and vegetarian options. We never ate the same thing twice. The dining area is huge and has both outdoor and indoor seating. Again, all food and drinks is included so eat and drink as much as you can from a huge variety. You must put on hand sanitizer when you enter the dining area and all staff wears masks so you can feel comfortable. Because the dining area is so huge, you can keep 6ft distance easily. The hotel has MULTIPLE swimming pools and its own private beach. Parking garage is under the hotel and it's not easily accessible but it is free. There are a few shops/vendors on site to get souvenirs, swimsuits, etc. They do have a spa that we did really like! The carpeting could be updated but other than that it was amazing - we booked last minute for the same day and were able to be accommodated. There are pool tables so go to the concierge to ask for the balls and sticks. Depending on how many nights you stay, you can make reservations in advance to eat at one of the speciality restaurants (again, all freee). The speciality restaurants are on-site restaurants that aren't like the dinning buffet area. You order your food off a menu and have a waiter. And again, multiple vegan and vegetarian options!! The hotel hosts multiple events throughout the day and have a schedule to tell you when the volleyball game starts, pool volleyball game starts, etc. so you and your kids can participate. The private beach access gives you the option to pay to ride a banana boat. There's also an on site store where you can pay a professional photographer to give you a photoshoot at the private beach. Your hotel room is stocked with free water, soda, and snacks. You get your own private balcony in your room with a table and chairs. The staff is soooo soo friendly!! Ask the front desk about who to book for your rapid Covid test. Taxi prices are written out at the hotel entrance so you know exactly how much it costs to get from your hotel to different cities, the airport, famous landmarks (but the prices were so expensive so be aware). ATM on site. Open bar in the lobby (again, free). Next to the pools is a desk where you can get towels and I think pool toys and games. There is a basketball hoop facing the pool and a waterfall to swim under. Staff speaks English and Spanish.

First off the staff over all was amazing! We stayed at the resort for 5 days at the premium level. Upon check in Tania assisted us with everything. She ended up being the main point of contact for our stay. Before arriving I read all of the fine print about what was included in the premium level. It was upsetting that I had to keep reminding her of what was all included. 3 nights at the restaurants with a minimum 4 night stay, discount at the spa, bottle of tequila and wine in the room... Also being a vegetarian there were not a lot of options to choose from for food. The room it self was clean and spacious but it does need some up grades. There was a beautiful vanity to use but the outlets did not work. The hot water for the shower only worked if you had the water running in the bathtub at the same time which made me feel bad about wasting so much water. The toilet kept clogging and we would have to call maintenance every time it happened. Room service was available 24/7 however, it took a very long time to receive it. By the time it came to the room most of it was cold or hard. They only had hot sauce, ketchup and mustard for condiments. The mini fridge in the room did not keep the drinks very cold. I also read that you can request different drinks for your room if you ask in advance. I sent an email to Afra (who also coordinated our transportation to/from the airport) to have certain beer available to which she said it was not an option. I informed her it was on their website and sent her a screen shot of it but she stopped responding. We were able to schedule one excursion by luck because they were never at their desk to do so. We kept asking for help to schedule anything but we always received a response of "sorry you have to wait for them and we don't have a number to call them". We went with a large group of people to the resort because it was for a wedding (which will be a separate review), however when trying to make reservations for dinner at the a la cart restaurants they would never let us make them together. They were always 1-2 hours apart because they were "full". When arriving to the dinner there were always 6-10 tables open for parties of 4 or more. I would definitely recommend really pushing to schedule all of your excursions or spa treatments as soon as you check in because they are always closed or booked. The beach for this resort is extremely small. We can see the beach for the resorts next to us and they looked beautiful. They should figure out away to share the beach since we were able to walk to the other one but it had a little fence to keep them separated. The restaurant staff and bar staff were AMAZING though! They are what seriously makes you want to go back to the resort. They are quick on their feet and so polite. The resort is very family friendly but also ideal for couples. Overall it was a very relaxing and wonderful time there. We would definitely consider going back but hope they were make some upgrades. PS. Rodolfo assisted us with out bags when checking in/out and he was wonderful! I cannot remember the names of the lady and gentle man who bartender for most of our stay and the other gentle man who happened to be our server every time we went to eat but they were awesome! I wish I could give them a shout out on here as well. Pictures to come...

Rafael made the most amazing coffees with coconut milk during my stay at Barceló Manzanillo. Every cup was perfectly prepared, flavorful, and made with great care. What truly made the experience special was his kindness, professionalism, and attention to detail. He always remembered my preference and served each coffee with a smile. Thank you, Rafael, for making my mornings even better! read more

This place need to improve on kindness to guests and good customer service practices: Front desk people on 5/29, 3:00pm. They didn't have our rooms ready. We made reservation for two rooms, connected. They didn't honor our reservation, they actually put us on different floors. When we asked them to repair this issue, they mistreated us by ignoring our request and jumping on to help somebody else. After some arguing, not even a conversation, they put us in the same floor, but no connected rooms. Also, we requested the rooms with a garden view and they put us on rooms with a view of the parking lot! Stinky room: when we finally got to our room, a strong stench of humidity was coming out of the room. We requested for room service to clear this. Unfortunately, we had to call twice in a period of 30 minutes with no luck. 1.5 hours passed with no response from room service. This was a highly recommended place to visit, and this was our very first visit. Needless to say this is OUR LAST VISIT. We are very disappointed and frustrated with this place. read more

Booking: From the very beginning we were off to a rough start. I booked by phone so that I could ask questions about accessibility as I was traveling with my elderly grandparents. The agent on the phone was very impatient and rude . She spelled my name wrong despite me spell it out out for her multiple times. She also refused to stay on the line when I informed her I wasn't receiving the confirmation. She stated "I can't stay on the line because there's other people I need to help". I ended up calling back after not receiving the confirmation and another agent corrected the spelling on the email address and I finally received the confirmation however she never changed my name on the booking so I had a hard time during check in. Stay: They assigned me to a nice clean room and my grandparents to a smelly old room with a broken back door, smudged bathroom mirrors, and no working remote control. I called and they came to bring batteries and fix the back door but left the mirrors dirty. The room had bugs like cockroaches and even a tiny little crab. We stayed here for 5 nights. My room had a bracelet to enter while my grandparents room was a key card. On our third day there they decided to change the lock on my grandparents room and make it into a bracelet entry without telling us. We came back from lunch and were not able to enter the room. I called the front desk and they said we had to walk to them to get the bracelets. I found this extremely disrespectful and inconsiderate. Zero customer service skills. Why not wait and do it in between guest ? Why in the middle of our stay? Why not let us know ahead of time? Why not bring the bracelets to us? My grandparents are wheelchair bound and they didn't care or take that into consideration. Who locks their guest out of the room in the middle of their stay ? At checkout the front desk wanted to charge us $40 for each missing pool towel card . The cards were in the room but they insisted we go get them. Very annoying after everything else we had to deal with. No valet service, no streamlined reservation system for restaurants. The food from the buffet upset our stomachs by the third day. The front desk staff and booking staff need more training. They also need better food . The buffet, pool and bar staff were all friendly and helpful . The location and views are beautiful but I will not return after spending so much money just to be consistently inconvenienced. read more

Please avoid this place at all costs. They claim it's a 4 diamond resort with the best quality of everything but it is far from it. Nobody is on the same page here. They offer this premium package for more money but it truly doesn't get you anything extra. The reservation system for the restaurants is truly a giant mess! I was told I had to make a restaurant reservation the night before, but nobody was at the concierge desk after 5 PM. I had a late arrival. I went the next morning to try to make a reservation and was told everything is booked! How can I make a reservation if everything was closed? I'm so confused! The staff doesn't try to help. They don't even care to help which makes me think that they get paid poorly cuz they simply don't even care to provide good customer service. read more

This place doesn't deserve any stars. I would not recommend this place at all. We came with a big group and majority of them they found a way to charge more money. The minute we checked in I felt interrogated. The staff is rude, the food is horrible, the pool closes early, and everything is an up charge. Stay away especially if you want to enjoy your time and save some money. read more

This hotel is gorgeous , amazing views , restaurants and shows. I booked a couple of days to stay with my family, I even booked a romantic dinner for them and it was amazing . I would of rated this place 5 stars but the reason why I didn't was because I was treated rude and was questioned everything from the moment I checked in to the moment I checked out. The lady in the front desk ( Karmin Luis ) is extremely rude and has no customer service . I had to interact with her a couple of times since our room keys would deactivate and we would have to go to the front desk to get it reactivated. When I checked out some other young and nice lady was helping me but I'm not sure what Karmin's problem was that she went to that girl wanting her to have me sign some paperwork that didn't even have to be sign. People like her make me question if it's worth it to come back. I think front desk people are the first impressions of this hotel and she is not making the hotel look good or at least some customer service classes should be taken. read more

I don't know how to start with this place , bad service , horrible food , they need more staff . You pay for a 5 star hotel and get the service of a motel and that's no joke . If zero stars was an option, this place would receive it. Came here for a family trip with 20 other guests, every single one of us had issues. Starting with the the buffet we found everything from brillo pad metal, to bones in chicken nuggets, to hair.Absolutely horrendous inedible food. Then we get to our room which our bags had already been checked into and a different family is in our room. In a rage we go down to the desk to complain and get rude unhelpful service. Thirdly, the entire trip none of us got slightly tipsy off our beers or liqour, as the entire bar is diluted water drinks! They dont even serve you real liqour or beer here lol unreal.Fourthhly for the next 2 days we recieve angry phonecalls to our room that say we are not supposed to be staying there after we had gone thru the whole 2 hour dilema before. I will make sure nobody i know comes here ever again read more

So disappointed. Everything on this Hotel it's under five stars for sure. Very poor customer service. I started my day with no valet service as advertise. I made a reservation for a room with two beds and I got a room with one bed. The room had a very poor air-conditioning a broken Bath tub and a toilet not working at 100%. I made two different requests from room service and were not completed as requested . The management was not able to help me or willing to give a compensation (an upgrade on a room ) for the bad customer service and bad condition of the room. I end up cutting one day Of my vacation at this hotel and had to pay an extra $250 to upgrade my room and try to have a better service. Definitely not a good recommendation. And I don't understand why this place was rated as a five star hotel. The worst experience. read more

Horrible!!!!!!!! First of all, I was premium and the last to check in. Premium beers are guard and you can only take two at a time. Signs are up for activities and they are closed and rented for a private event. They turned the water off not once but twice without notification. I understand that we are overcoming a pandemic and a hurricane but why do we need to pay for it. They are not prepared for bad weather when it happens every year. One restaurant opened and an hour long line to make line and get your bad food. It is too long to list how bad this place is. Personal is not to blame, management is a pice oh sh!:, I payed too much money to wish I was at a best western! I travel a lot!!!!!!!! read more

Disappointed overall- This place does have large rooms and appealing architecture, but the cleanliness needs to be addressed. Additionally, their furniture is rundown and clearly does not get cleaned/replaced when needed (pictures are just a few of many examples). An additional note, we had them do laundry and dry cleaning. The laundry will have to be re-cleaned as the smell of the room has infiltrated the fabric and the vendor they used melted another article. The most frustrating part is, Barcelo Karmina will not honor their clearly written damage statement and has instead chosen to find far-fetched alternate explanations to relieve them of this contract. I have never experienced this before, especially when it's clearly written on their paperwork. This is the reason I would avoid Barcelo Karmina the most; if they won't honor something so inconsequential, how would they handle more serious challenges? Unfortunately, we were fooled by the reviews on this, which was a shame. I travel all over the world, all year; this was one of the first experiences that strayed far from my expectations. Restaurant service was good, the rest of the staff, especially reception management seem to be stuck in a structure without much customer focused training. read more

Not really sure how this place is considered a "five star resort". First of all, the food was complete trash. Very mediocre to say the least. Secondly, we had multiple issues in the room with the water pressure was turned off for a while and then we had a major leak in the room. Not to mention when we got there at check in time (3pm) our room was not ready until 3:30. The pool was dirty. They have a slide that is only for kids under 15, mind you it is a big slide. It just didn't meet our expectations. I will say that the bar and restaurant staff were great, but that's about all this place has going for them. Overall pick another place. read more

So this place was AMAZING the cost not so much but it's an ALL inclusive Palace with buffet of food through out the day and unlimited alcohol it's a WIN WIN situation. My only recommendation is if you do plan to stay here call directly to the hotel get a price and then through these other websites just to price compare because I did the mistake of calling and got a quote of $10,000 pesos for two nights and just randomly decided to go stay before our flight home and when we got to reception it was $19,??? I was flabbergasted like I literally just called yesterday and she said well you should've booked when you called I can't give you that price so all in all learn from our mistake and just call ahead of time so you don't get screwed because they do offer great deals it's just a matter of being smart about it so that's just a little advice from me to you. The food was great and ALL their workers in the restaurants customer service is beyond EXCELLENT they walk by you refill your drinks before they go half ways and bring drinks upon arrival honestly loved the customer service read more

Hi everyone, I just came back from this Hotel and it is the worst experience I ever had, food sucks, foof menu is pretty much the same everyday, no free wifi in rooms! There is a charge for room service, only 2 good things about this hotel, the pools and that there is cable tv in the rooms, other than that no good! This is our second time at Karmina. The first time was 5 years ago and we had an amazing time with our family. Fast forward to today and it's almost just as good. Our only complaint is that the rooms do need some updating, especially in the bathroom. So far we have been here for three days and we are having a fantastic time. Food is good and in the speciality restaurants the food is really good with top notch service. I recommend upgrading to the premium rooms which has 24hr room service, WiFi and beautiful ocean views. We will definitely be coming back another time. read more

It took over 1 hour to check in, the hotel was understaffed, lots of people complaining. I had 3 rooms reserved through expedia, I needed to add people, the guy at the reception desk was not happy about it. They charged me the same for my twin nephews who just turned 2 as my 12 year old! totally unfair. I had to pay over $300 in addition. The food was not great at all! the drinks seemed to be diluted! I asked for a mojito, they did not have that! they say they have additional restaurants, however the person who takes the reservation is hardly there, or she would say they are booked! definitely a bad experience. First impression is at your front door, and it was definitely a bad one. We have been there before years ago, and it has definitely, changed for the worse read more

Worst hotel I have stayed in, they definitely DO NOT deserve the title of 5 star resort. We had issues since check-in and they unfortunately continued throughout our week-long stay. Terrible service, hour long wait times to get into the buffets (which had flies in the fruit and cheese), no working phones, no running water at times, issues with electrical outlets, the list goes on. Also, do not get the premium because they don't honor the extra services premium is supposed to provide, making up any excuse to get out of it. We spoke to the manager which was a complete waste of time as all he would repeat was "I understand your frustration" but didn't do anything about it.
