I was very impressed with the friendly service and the speed of it as well. The store had the part I needed, and I had my guitar back within a week. On another day, I was looking for a harmonica in a specific key, and again, the music store I went to first was out of them. Back to Lillo's I went. One of the store's owners waited on me, and was a totally cool and cheerful guy. The price of the harmonica was in line with the first place I went to, and he even made conversation with me about why I needed it (it was for a specific song). Lillo's sells and repairs musical instruments, especially guitars, and also sells a wide variety of sheet music. Lillo's is also a place for musical instruction. I have a friend taking vocal lessons here and she is enjoying the experience. Lillo's has also been around for decades in a location where there are at least two or three other music stores nearby. I have a couple of guitars that may need servicing in the near future. Guess where I am going to take them?

Two decades later my xboyfriend and our son, Robin Nash, without knowing our history was hired by Vic Lillo. My son was also an aspiring musician and often had priority gigs and was unavailable to work for the store. Vic and Doreen always gave him consideration and always offered him a workplace ... I often think they did it more for him than themselves. He met his future wife Shawna there teaching harmonica lessons, drums and sold and repaired all the various instruments. My son Robin Nash was always welcome to come back when he needed extra income, always welcome to return as an employee or rather an extended Lillo's family member. If you google Robin Nash you'll see him as Santa playing at a LIllos event... his students and their parents in attendance. Because of families like the Lillos children grow up more talented, cared about and the old fashioned values of being a good guy "for sure for sure" will rub off. It definitely did on my late son. I will always be greatful to the Lillo family for cherishing him and giving a young hopeful musician a break.

Not only does Gordon Price sell music, but also great teaching aids and musical novelty items, which is great for anyone musical in your life. Their staff is very helpful and knowledgeable about music - go figure - and are always there to lend a hand. I've called ahead and asked for books to be held for me which they've done without hesitation. That alone makes me return on a regular basis for my teaching materials.

About 6 months ago I had Doc refret my 2004 Strat Deluxe with stainless steel frets and his work and care was immaculate. Any guitar player knows getting new frets is akin to heart surgery and rather than risk a botch job I used to drive my guitar down to a tech in Calgary who I trusted. Doc has replaced that tech for me. The other day I had him install a new tusque nut and replace the SI pot on my Strat. I needed it for the weekend and he did all the work that day - wonderful! Staff at the store is always friendly and helpful. Highly recommend!

I stopped into Lillo's Music today before seeing a Fringe show…read more I took piano lessons, but it's been years since I sat at a piano, however I've recently been watching music theory videos on YouTube, so I thought I'd stop in and see what they had for theory books. I was greeted right away and was shown the section of theory books. There was a variety to choose from, but I went with the Elementary Rudiments of Music by Barbara Wharram because it had some of the basics to refresh my memory, but also seems to go into theory topics I never got to in my piano studies like modes and transposition. I also browsed their guitar books and picked up a basics (because I have a guitar but haven't taken lessons). Aside from books they do have actual musical instruments, and I understand they do repairs as well. Lillo's Music will be closing in December (their music school will stay open though) so if you're looking to get some sheet music or buy an instrument make sure to stop by soon.

From the CruzFM Hall Parties to the Rock'n August Music Festival to the concerts at River Cree's music tent (yes, it's a tent), Tristar have probably produced over half of the concerts we've seen in the past year. They also do the Bear's Halloween Howler. At first we weren't seeing the common connection between all these events until we noticed it was always the same dude (Paul) hosting the rock star photo ops and meet-and-greets that are frequently made available at many Trixstar-produced events. Paul is a talkative, personable guy, a great representative of the company. As far as I'm concerned, he's the face of Trixstar. He gave us the rundown on what Trixstar is about and what they do which has more to do with just producing concerts. They're an event planning company in general that also puts on corporate events and sports-related activities among many others. He usually says hello and makes small talk whenever we run into him at a concert he's producing. At one recent show I remarked that I forgot my ear plugs. Paul immediately volunteered to go find some for me. He never did return but it was nice of him to offer all the same. Maybe he's still looking for them... So all-in-all - Memorable events + personable service = Trixstar Productions.

My problem with the place is with the music school. I signed up for five private lessons. On the 4th, I had to call in sick 5 hours prior. End of the month I found out that it was a missed appointment and I would not receive any more until I paid up for another month. I didn't like this. If you're sick then you'd still better go or you'll lose $60. After some back and forth, they did finally offer the lesson but by then I was not interested and did forfeit the lesson. Don't pay 1 month in advance. Besides that, you may not like the instructor.
