Went with my sister and we enjoyed it besides the fact we went a day after it had rained. The Marshall Knob trail starts paved until you get to the river overlook, so keep that in mind. We hiked every trail except the Rocky Path, we enjoyed the scenery and wildlife. There are plenty of benches along the trails, we even saw a bathroom or two (porta potties though). The location next to the highway (especially on the Valley View trail) and other homes does detract from the experience some. We went on a Tuesday so there were only a few people there. Want to play a little game? Count how many wild life you find while on the trail. I found a turtle There much to love about this park. It's very well maintained. If you want exercise without distraction I'd suggest heading to the park by 6:30 as it can get quite packed. I nearly lost a limb from a biker going max speed. Bleachers have a sun shade which is great for travel baseball tournaments. Concessions were reasonable and tasty.

This park is so conveniently close to major roads so getting there is easy, and there is plenty of parking at the trail heads. These trails are well marked, and moderately difficult with some inclined areas, and some spots where you can to step up or down on boulders. But the views of the forest are incredibly beautiful, it is always a pleasant walk! read more

Best in town escape to hike and experience nature! We love the paved trail as well as the longer woodland trails. So much to enjoy and explore! Wow, I love this park! It's fricking huge!! There are tons of sports fields, playgrounds, walking trails, picnic tables, public restrooms, and much more. I can't believe how beautiful the greenery at this park was. It's definitely well maintained, just a very clean park in general. We took our toddler here and he absolutely loved it! We had so much fun with him as adults too lol. The only downfall is that the mosquitos are very bad. Of course that's a little uncontrollable when you're outdoors. I highly recommended this park to anyone that lives around here or is in the area. We will definitely be back to this one. read more

Greta park for the area. Lots of hiking options. I'm a runner and found a nice asphalt trail that led in and out of the park. Be sure to stop at the wilderness center and check out the wildlife in the center. I would love to come back here next time I'm in town. read more

Fantastic park! The wilderness hiking area feels, well, like you are out in the middle of the forest somewhere. You are, but you are also very close to the city. The trails are very well maintained and the markings are fairly easy to spot. There are some areas where the markings can be improved, but if you just stop and look around, they are fairly easy to see. I was amazed that we only met two other people on our hike, and we did an entire loop with a couple of side loops. I think this is one of the Boro's best kept secrets! It's a great, quick way to get to a beautiful hiking destination! Highly recommend hiking here. read more

This park is always clean. My church always do BBQ gatherings here but I did not know they had this trail. Me and my friend decided to try out this trail. We loved the whole scenery of this hiking trail. It had alot of uphill and downhill so it was definitely a great workout. And then loved that it had lots of areas where you can go and sit near the water and just admire the scenery. We did the 2.5 mile loop next time we will do the other trails. Definitely a hidden gem of a trail for sure! Go check it out! read more

How has this hid from me for so long?? I really loved this park. It started pretty tame, on a paved path... but once you get down to the river it takes an awesome turn. It is rocky with ups and downs, the red trail loop is about 2.65 miles. The terrain changes in many places and there are definitely some steep areas... I was out of breath a couple of times. There were plenty of people there... laying in hammocks, fishing, playing fetch with pups.. despite this it didn't feel overcrowded. Unfortunately the wilderness center was closed when I went but it seemed cute and they had plenty of activities listed on the bulletin board outside. I know I will frequent here often. We love this park! So does our dog. The trails are challenging enough for a great workout without it being too difficult. Lots of rock formations and places to connect with nature. The middle fork creek is a pretty spot to stop and rest and occasionally it's empty so you can explore the river rocks. Right in the heart of the city but you feel like you're in the mountains. Still looking for historical information about the old rock wall along the hill trail tho... no one seems to know how or who built it there. Would love to know more. read more

We didn't have a lot of time, but wanted to enjoy an outdoor hike. Fortunately, Barfield Crescent Park was nearby. We tried the Wilderness Trail and, in spite of the heat, stayed cool in the shade of the many trees. Also, the bathrooms were very clean. If we have an opportunity to return to this area, we hope to visit the park again. read more

This is a great place to bring your kids. It has hiking trails for all levels and a gift shop full of small critters for them also. There are classes each Wednesday at 9:30 for the little ones. Home school science class and paint class each month for mom. read more

Took my daughter to The Wilderness Center for their Wild Things program today. It was different from any other olay group setting I've found so far. I love how everything is nature related of course. The took the kids (1-4) on the tiniest hike to look for seeds and berries it was so cute! They sang songs related to what the "lesson plan" was for the day and then a craft project. The highlight is that they bring out an animal! This week was all about corn and seeds so they glued popcorn to a paper corn cob. They are go to see a Corn Snake up close and personal!! At only $3 it is so worth the money. Will be back next week for Turtles and Turkeys the week after that! read more

Took my 10 month old to this park for the 1st time. We had a picnic at one of the pavilions which was very clean. We then went into the wilderness station, it had lots of animals inside. The hummingbird feeders were packed with hummingbirds, which was really awesome to watch. At this time my son had a blow out so we had to use the bathroom to clean him up. The changing station was very clean and bathroom was too. Got him clean and then went on a stroll on the paved trail which was nice. They have some benches through out so if we needed to stop and rest we could. After that we drove to each of the play yards, was slightly bummed that they dont have swings or areas for tiny babies but overall a nice park and we enjoyed it. read more

I really enjoy the barfield park ! I've always wished they brought out swings for the kiddos or even a tire swing an having the mulch taken away do to splinters! Other than that it's a fun place to relax an walk there trails an grill out an hang with friends and watch there baseball games ! It's great place been going sense I was a kid :) read more

I have absolutely no complaints with this park. There are plenty of trails to choose from, disc golf, a playground. The area is always kept clean, including the restrooms. There's even a small campground toward the back. I frequently walk out to the creek. The trails are heavily trafficked and dogs on leashes are allowed. read more

We love this park! Our favorite thing to do is go to the Wilderness Station to visit the animals on Wednesday's for Wild Things! We love to go on hikes, play on the playgrounds, and play in the sandbox area. The staff at the Wilderness Station are so friendly and kind to my children and we enjoy their community based and homeschool activities. read more

Recently moved to Murfreesboro and wanted to check out the local hiking scene with my husky. I was pleasantly surprised to find this park had a wide variety of amenities and trails! In terms of hikes, they have everything from paved trails to gravel paths, to more challenging 'off-road' rocky climbs and even a path down to a creek bed that offers a serene place to cool off (for you and the pup!). Definitely dog-friendly with different waste stations throughout the paved paths. You will encounter many other dogs, families, children etc. on the paved paths, so if you're looking for a bit more of a solo adventure with the occasional human run-in, I'd recommend the nature path (challenging and not for the faint of heart). read more

This park is amazing! It's tucked away on the outskirts of the Boro so it isn't trashed because everyone probably doesn't know it's there. It's connected to the greenway which I don't do...but for those of you that do--there ya go! I like to go have picnics here with the fam! There is tons of nice open space. There are many beautiful trails. Especially the trail along the river. The trials are kept clean. If I saw any trash it was slim to none. It is dog friendly! There was not any dog poop on the trials. People were very respectful of the environment and trials. :)) read more
