Our dog goes to Bark-A-Bout roughly 18 days a month for daycare and we occasionally take our dog for overnight stays. Bark-A-Bout has been a godsend for us! This is a great facility but unfortunately poorly managed. I most likely won't be back. I'm giving it 2 stars for the layout and concept but I hope they work their issues out. We were looking for a dog facility with an in-ground pool, and were so excited to find this place. We have an old arthritic dog who needs to swim for rehab, so we called and they encouraged us to come check the place out anytime. We went out to look at the place and the setup is pretty nice. When we got there though on a Saturday afternoon we were told no one would be available to show us around for a while, even though we just wanted to see the pool. So we waited about 45 minutes, and ended up just showing ourselves around. They have an upstairs observation area, and I could see two indoor play areas about the size of a tennis court with one dog playing with a staff person. Unfortunately the other court had a dog in it by himself unattended and it was sitting by a door crying (for 10 minutes...if I had been that owner I would have been pissed!). I could barely see where the pool was and there were some people and dogs in there so I let myself in. The folks using it were swimming with their 3 dogs and they explained that after you do a training session you can rent the pool on your own and swim with your dogs. They really enjoyed it! So I confirmed that with the receptionist and we scheduled our training session. Our session with the trainer was a bit rough but ended up ok. I tried to explain to her our special needs with our dog. He's pretty stubborn and timid And needs a lot of patience. Because he's so arthritic he needs a lot of help getting around. She was a bit combative with us and not very helpful getting him in it, but once he was in she did help us teach him to use the pool. He did great and we were hopeful this could work out for him. Once the session was over she advised that you are not allowed in the pool without her there. Since he can't get in the pool on his own that's the only choice we have. So the only way you can use the pool with your dog is if she's there, and it costs an extra $50? She doesn't get in the pool herself or do anything and that made no sense. Further she's only there twice a month. I spoke to the receptionist, and she said under normal circumstances that's the case, but exception would be made for our dog. So we booked another appt. since then someone named Amanda has called us several times to say no we can't do that. While that's their policy it doesn't look like they apply it to everyone (like the folks I saw on my first visit?). It's unfortunate because this could really help him. Aside from my situation and the pool, I have another dog and I don't think I'd bring him there. I'd expect him to get a lot of play time and interaction. During our swim visit I could hear a lot of dogs but none were in the exercise area. Like I said up front. The facility looks pretty great, but it's not run well. read more

I never write reviews, but after this experience felt compelled to share. I brought my 16 year old cat in for her bi-annual grooming. When I got the call she was ready for pick-up, the groomer casually mentioned she had accidentally cut off one side of my pet's whiskers, and in order to maintain symmetry, she cut off the other side to match. Cats use their whiskers for balance, feeling safe, and guidance; I understand the mistake but I do not understand the intention of cutting off the other side simply to match?? When I brought the issue to the attention of both the manager and then the owner both dismissed the problem as anything significant, offered no apolo and proceeded to tell me my bill was $90/full price. When I expressed my discontentment and gave the analogy of having one's eyebrows waxed and having the esthetician screw up on one eyebrow and then match the other intentionally with the same screw up just to make them even she decided to reduce my charge to a whopping $72. Completely dismayed with this business, their lack of knowledge about the animals they service, and poor customer service from ownership down. I don't recommend them for grooming. My dog went there for about a year maybe more, I used to like it but it got worse each time. This past time was the last straw. Previously they had chopped off a few of my dogs whiskers gave them another chance it happened again, but I looked at it as my fault I forgot to remind them to not do it and be careful. This last time I had him get "trimmed same as usual not shaved make sure you get the hair between his toes really well" he smelled like they didn't do a good job bathing him his hair behind eats weren't touched his chest hair had long strands sticking out all over his tail usually gets fanned out its all choppy so is his front chest area the rest didn't get trimmed his teeth were supposed to be brushed and I swear it didn't seem like that was done either! But fine so it's a bad cut, I can get over that what I can't get over is why was my dog crying and whimpering on the way home?! Anyways I called and complained and I didn't want to bring him back for a re cut because now I'm afraid of what he went thru there?! He's a very easy going dog and never acts like that after grooming, there's no reason he should've acted like that. So I complained and asked for a refund or partial refund after all he had half a haircut yet I was charged $65 for this hack job, nope they wouldn't refund me a cent I can only come back and have the same awful groomer redo it. No thank you I'll never bring him back. read more

We have been taking our two fiery female wire fox terriers to Bark-A-Bout since they opened and have always been pleased with the care that has been given. Sara and others at the front desk always greet our dogs by name when they walk in (even though they look the same), Linda does an excellent job at grooming, and Katie gave us great tips for training one of our girls. Very appreciative of the care and attention each employees gives to our girls when they are there for daycare, grooming, training, or extended hotel stays. read more

Macy has attended Bark About for day care needs, kenneling and grooming for at least a year or so. She attended almost everyday this week due to home repairs being done and keeping her out of the way of workers. She comes home exhausted! Love watching her play with so many other dogs. The staff never stops moving to pick up waste or keep the dogs in order. Staff at desk and dog handlers are friendly and attentive. I've never had a problem being on hold and have done the call back method which also worked fine. I appreciated the reminders to bring updated shot records! Macy has a problem with other dogs when she is on a leash and BarkAbout helps me with this issue in the lobby. I'm so grateful she's unleashed in the back because she does just fine with all dogs! Other daycare and kennels could not accommodate us. Groomers have done a great job on Macy! I know she's a handful but she's ready for the holidays! Thank you! read more

I have been taking my dog here for day care services and to stay at the hotel for 8 years, since he was a puppy, and I absolute love taking him here. He loves it when he gets to spend the day here playing with the other dogs and he really loves all the attention he gets from the staff. It is amazing to sit in the upstairs lounge and get to watch him play and interact with other dogs. He was diagnosed with cancer in January and had to have one of his legs amputated. Since the amputation I have still brought him in for day care and even a stay at the hotel. They provide amazing care and even tailor his care for his special circumstance. I am very picky about who I leave my dog with but when he is here I feel completely comfortable knowing he is in good hands. They make sure he is well cared for and safe and that he doesn't get too tired since he fatigues easier since the surgery. I can't say enough about how amazing all the staff is. I also love the web cam. It is such a comfort to know that when I am out of town I can still watch him play and have fun. read more

I would give this place zero stars if that was an option. Their dock diving pool was designed for humans NOT dogs. We took our dogs there to go swimming and no one told us to keep our dogs on the leash ( which I find bizarre to keep your dog on the leash inside a play area where there are many other dogs since dogs tend to be leash reactive in closed in places) and as soon as we walked in one of the ladies there freaked out and started screaming and picked up her dog. It was so unnecessary to react that way since our dogs did not even show slight aggression. Then we finally took the dogs up the dock to go swimming and the way it is designed our dog didn't realize how big the drop is and she fell in (not anyone's fault). After falling in she was freaking out because she couldn't find the way to get out. My Husband and I had to go down and direct her and help her find the way our. The way the pool is designed they did not have dogs in mind at all. And according to one of the ladies that was there with her dog you are supposed to run down after your dog jumping in the water and catch them and leash them immediately. That seems ridiculous to me and super hard to do since I am pregnant. read more

Bark A Bout is the worst boarder we have ever used! The entire experience was absolutely terrible and I strongly suggest picking a different boarder for the sake of your pets!! It is expensive too and not worth the money!! When I dropped off my dogs they were immediately taken to the back and when I was done checking them in I asked if I could say goodbye... and was told NO!! I of course wasn't leaving until I did and finally got to say goodbye. Upon pick up we discovered our one dog was bit twice, on the front and back leg. To mention I called every other day to check on them and was never ONCE told of any encounter where my dog was bit!! I was irrate and the explanation I was given was that "they just don't know what happened" and "it happened on the last day so that's why we didn't contact you". This is a blatant lie as the bites were already scabbing over. We called the next day to discuss this with someone and were told they had to look into this and call us back. We never received a call back!! I had to call the next day and demand a call back. We never received any paperwork at pick up not even a report card or anything. As soon as we got our dogs home we immediately bathed them because they looked and smelled terrible which by the way we were told they were bathed there because they stayed over a week so that's probably a lie as well. Than one of our dogs started to gag and dry heave so we took both dogs outside and both started throwing up pure white foam and a lot of it. They both are sneezing and continuously throwing up still. They both are sick which has been addressed by our vet and on medication but our pets are our kids and I am astonished by some of these reviews praising them. This place sucks and should be reviewed by the BBB. They need to let all their customers know that my dogs got kennel cough from their stay. My pets WILL NEVER SEE THIS PLACE AGAIN!!!!!! read more

I wish I would of read the reviews before I sent my Yorkie to this facility. I live near Shelby Twp. and when it came time to go out of town, I was looking for a doggie daycare close to my house. The building is very nice and clean and made me think this was the perfect new place to take my Yorkie.The 2 times I took my Yorkie he got Kennel Cough. I took my Yorkie (De'Ogge) to the Bark-a-bout in Shelby Twp., MI in September. The first time I took De'Ogge was for the Meet-n-Greet, when I picked him up over the next couple of days I noticed he had a very dry cough, so I called Bark-a-bout and they said he was playing outside in the rain and he may of caught of cold. So I took De'Ogge to the vet and they diagnosed him with Kennel Cough so I gave him the antibiotics. I already had a preplanned vacation for one week, so when the time came for my trip a month or so later, I decided to take him back since he was better now and I had already reserved a spot for him to be there that week. I dropped him off everything was fine for the first 2 days of my vacation, then all of sudden the vet at Bark-a-bout started calling my emergency contact saying rudely someone needs to come pick De'Ogge up he has Kennel Cough and he is very sick and he is barely breathing. I was in Aruba at the time and this totally ruined my trip thinking I was going to come back and my Yorkie was going to be dead. All the workers were very nice until the vet called saying come get him, then everyone became very nonchalant. I was totally disappointed with the customer service and how they handled the situation. read more

I recently enrolled my 12 year old golden retriever in their doggy daycare camp, and she is in with the handlers and dogs and entire experience. While she is very well socialized, she doesn't necessarily play with the other dogs, just watches them. But she LOVES people, and for her first two days enrolled in daycare, she has been so incredibly happy with going and when I go to pick her up. At other daycares she's gone to she would just lay in the corner and nap (usually in the small dog room in a very small room for the dogs of all sizes to play). But at bark-about she is walking around constantly, wagging her tail, and walking up to all the handlers and asking for pets and love. Every time I go onto the live webcam to check in on her, she's either walking around following a handler with some younger puppies in tow, or in between a handlers legs asking for more loving. I have yet to see her laying around in the play room. And she's with the big dogs!!!! A huge step up from being scared at the other daycare of all the commotion with big dogs in such a confined area!!! We will be going to bark about's daycare now until her time on earth is up. It's a pretty great way to spend your golden years/ months- instead of waiting at home for mommy/daddy to get home from work- now we get to watch the young rascals play and get so much love from so many new friends read more
