I wish I could give this business, especially Holly a million stars! We got our dog Poppy for free almost 2 years ago. We were her 3rd owner in her 3 years of life. It was also explained to us that she has been physically abused and dealt with abandonment issues. She was so anxious and fearful of us she actually escaped from us and was MIA for a solid 48 hours. Holly came over like we were old friends, within 10 minutes of her being in our home, our rescue Sampson responded well. After spending quality time with us we felt we were given the tools to succeed. We rescued Sampson during COVID shut down and he hasn't had a lot of exposure. He's very dog and people reactive and aggressive with barking and biting. Small, but mighty Chihuahua mix and he becomes uncomfortable. Basically, anything outside makes him triggered. This isn't a bad review about the franchise owner/trainer, it's a WARNING to STEER CLEAR of Bark Busters and their method. I should have known when the secretary charged me a non refundable $300 booking fee - mind you it's just a booking fee it's not for the first assessment/session - however, we are first time dog owners and she did a great job convincing me that they only teach positivity training, which come to find out isn't the case. So here's the breakdown. It's about $1600 for lifetime training, which sounds amazing, right? $300 up front and then the remaining balance at the end of your first session. I'm like "okay, it's lifetime, so I guess $1600 is worth it." I went with them because I hadn't really heard from any of the other trainers I called around town but funny enough once I booked, I got three callbacks and they all told me to stay away. I did a little bit more research on the Bark Busters method and the posts/reviews talked about spray bottles, clapping, yelling and throwing (I think it was some sort of a bean bag) to get the dog's attention. It worried me because those methods aren't positive methods to train your dog, so I called the secretary and she set up a phone call with the trainer. The trainer made me feel comfortable and again, I paid the non refundable booking fee so I figured I'd give it a shot and see how the first session went. Upon arrival our trainer seemed fine. She was unhappy in her old business and actually hired Bark Busters to help her with her own dog years ago - she loved it so much, she went through the Bark Busters training program and bought a franchise. I guess that's fine but anyone can buy a franchise and get certified through the training program. So they tell you that you have to be the pack leader and to use the word "bah" which I guess in dog language is a grumble or growl. We used it and it worked but my dog was shaking and frightened the whole time. Then they gave me this weird harness with a chain around the collar to pull in every time I used it. Our poor boy was so uncomfortable walking around in that thing, I think it hurt him. Even though we had some red flags, I still decided to pay the remaining amount and continue on with the program. Before she leaves she tells me that she wants me to work on using the word and the harness, to email her in a week and then our next session would be a month later. I thought it was weird but again, I went with it. So, the next morning I take my boy out to practice the word and use the harness. The harness is awful and uncomfortable and the word is scaring the sh*t out of him. My sweet, loving guy is terrified of me! I took him inside and looked up the word. Seriously, goggle it if you don't believe me. It's a word used to scare the animal. Immediately, I was like "this isn't for us", so I called the trainer and she understood. She refunded a portion of my payment but my issue is that I essentially ended up paying her $500 for about an hour and a half of her time and for awful training. She said she gave her secrets away so that why she had to charge me $500 but I would NEVER EVER use their secrets/the Bark Busters method on my dog, even though they did give me the beginnings of their playbook. It was awful. It also took about three days for him to get back to his normal self. I felt so bad that I treated him the way I did. We have a new trainer now who listens and trains positively and does not use adverse methods. Again, this is not about the franchise owners, it's about the method as a whole. This is my warning to everyone. Do not spend your money. STAY AWAY FROM BARK BUSTERS unless you want your beloved pooch to be afraid of you, it's not worth it. read more

Bahhhhh! Who says an old dog can't learn new tricks? I've had my Lola since August of 2012. She is a rescue and nearly 12-years-old. Holly came to my partner's mom's house to work with the new rescue pup, named Charlie. Lola was invited, so the dynamic between all the dogs would improve. I didn't think that Lola needed to or wanted to learn anything new. As soon as Holly came in the house, all three dogs were attentive and their demeanor changed...in the best way possible. I can not say enough good things about Holly and the positive change she has created in such a short amount of time.
