I brought my dog here and was very excited to support the business. I'm sad to report that before I even paid, I knew we wouldn't be back. Red flag #1: Bark N Bubbles is a crate free environment with no requirements to provide vaccination records. Crate free is cute for dogs who need to socialize, but providing vaccination records should be a must for every owner. Red flag #2: I dropped my dog off at 9:30am with DJ, described how I wanted him groomed, and she told me it should take about 2.5 hours; so I planned to pick him up at 12pm. I got busy and realized 12:30pm rolled around and I hadn't heard anything. I called and DJ said my dog should be done around 1pm. I arrived at 1pm and that leads me to... Red flag #3: My dog was on the hair cutting table unattended and whining while the groomer (who WAS NOT DJ) corralled dogs back into the grooming station. They told me my dog needed another 30 minutes. I waited for 43 minutes for a total of 4 hours for this grooming session. It has *never* taken my dog 4 hours at any groomer. Red flag #4: The groomer cut my dog. He said verbatim: "He did a really good job. The only thing is he got startled and the razor cut him a little bit. He didn't bleed and it only looks bad right now because it's stretched out." I'm curious to know what startled my dog, and whether it could have been the fact that the dogs are groomed in the front of the store where other dogs are free to roam, bark, and play. They also do it right by the front door, so literally anything could have startled my poor dog. I would like to add that when I arrived, I did not speak to my dog excitedly nor did I stay within his field of vision. I sat in the back, out of sight, and the groomer even commented, "I don't think he knew you were here" before telling me about the cut. Red flag #5: I dropped my dog off with DJ but when I came back to pick him up, DJ was nowhere to be found. I'm glad I arrived when I did because I had to tell the groomer how to cut my mini poodle's fur. I thought groomers knew to leave poodle tails a little fluffy but maybe that's my mistake for assuming. My frustration is really with the fact that I explained to DJ how I wanted my dog to look, and DJ wasn't the one grooming my dog. The other dogs in the salon were stressed out, which I was able to observe for the 43 minutes I waited for my dog. They are understaffed, which was clear by the way the front desk employee left a dog unattended on a table as well so that she could help another owner. I am a human and this entire process stressed me out. Imagine what our dogs could be feeling. Please do better Bark N Bubbles. The 2 stars is for DJ's friendly energy and that is all. I take care of an elderly handicapped woman's dog and I'm responsible for all of the dogs vet visits, dog walking, and grooming. My client tends to wait until the dog is long overdue for a grooming to ask me to schedule for her so I knew that she was in rough shape and acknowledged that she was probably going to be matted and need shaved down. After one too many negative experiences at other groomers I decided to try Bark N Bubbles Doggie Day spa. The mobile website was a little wonky but overall pretty easy to use and the lady I spoke with on the phone was super helpful in getting us set up and scheduled. I also appreciated the emails and text reminders. Now for the groom: I was expecting to pick up a naked mole rat due to needing to shave the mats, but instead they took the time and care and patience to shave the spots that needed to be but brushed out her tail and ears and face so she looks really rather fantastic! Let me start by saying when I entered this establishment without being properly greeted I should've known that things weren't going to go as expected. The groomer also did not bother to introduce himself just went straight into pricing which just rubbed me the wrong way because it just reads you don't care about the dogs or their owners but simply just about charging people as much as possible. I was told that it would take up to 3 hours for my puppy's cut and I would be contacted 30 mins before he was done. I did not receive a text or a call after 4 hours and I had to reach out to the shop in order to see what was going on. I was told 15 minutes after that that he would be done in 30 minutes which means it took almost 5 hours for his grooming. When I arrived to pick up my puppy the groomer only told me he did not like his face being touched he did not go over the process of how he did or everything that he had taken care of nor did he do that beforehand neither so I can have an idea of what they take care of since this was my first time there. My poor puppy has multiple cuts on him and I'm not sure what they did to him but now he doesn't even want to walk in that direction when I take him out for a walk he gets extremely shaky and begins to whine which tells me he had a bad experience there. I definitely will not be back and I don't think anyone should take their dog there if they want them to feel somewhat comfortable. People are dropping off their dogs and trusting this establishment to do the right thing and be professional and that is clearly not happening. We are also trying to figure out if they had anything to do with my puppy missing teeth because from the looks he is missing teeth at the bottom and has a loose tooth up top. I feel extremely bad I even brought him to these people and allowed them to do whatever they did to him. Protect your dogs people! read more

I adopted him almost a year ago and he always has a lot of separation anxiety when being dropped off at the groomer, so I was a little nervous to try some place new. Well, I cannot say enough about how wonderful the girls at Bark N Bubbles were! Bailey went right in and seemed very comfortable in their nice open space. He was immediately shown a lot of love from the staff and I felt instantly comfortable that he was in good hands. They did an excellent, thorough job and I love that they don't have any cages and my pooch could relax by the big windows while he waited for me to get there to pick him up. I should also add that it was super easy to schedule and pay. Bailey definitely has a new groomer -- I was so happy with the location and service that he is definitely going to be a regular now! I was very excited about supporting a black owned business but when I stepped foot in this place everything went down the drain. Upon arriving, the woman or teenager (I couldn't tell) was very bland and her communication was horrible while checking my dog in, she even yawned really hard in my face as if she had a long night. I was really annoyed when I came back to pick my dog up and there was dog hair all over her and the floor right after she just had a bath. That was my strike one. My strike 2 was when I observed the results of the service. My dog nails were not cut! I emphasized that I wanted a cut, a teeth cleaning, and a ear cleaning when I checked her in and the young lady at the front desk kept emphasizing that it would cost extra. I told the young man cutting another dogs hair that her nails didn't look cut. He then proceeded to tell another young man to shave down my dogs nails, this other young man looked and sounded very inexperienced in these areas of work. I didn't want to do this but our community should do better with customer service. The least someone could do is sweep the floor. The area near the bathtubs has wet dog hair all over the floor. It was disgusting. I didn't even want to pay 85$ but I could tell they actually did clean her ears. (Thankfully)! I have a French bulldog so all they had to do was clean her body and cut her nails. I have taken my dog there several times and each time has been a wonderful experience for my dog. She is a breeder release and scared of most people. But there she seems to have no fear of the groomers and they are always very gentle with her. Yesterday when I picked her up, I wanted the groomer to cut off a bit more hair and he was sooo accommodating. The other staff were wonderful as well. I love it there because everything is so open . You see all the grooming and washing of the dogs. And it's never crowded with dogs. The vibe is very calming. My dog loves it!! read more

Absolutely loved our experience with Bark N Bubbles!! I've been looking for a local, reliable groomer and I think I've found it! We foster dogs through a local rescue and decided to bring our recent foster Isabel in for a full groom (including hair trim, hair brushing, nail trimming, teeth brushing, etc). Being a foster pup, her hair hadn't been well taken care of and was very overgrown & matted down. She was of course gorgeous before, but the team at Bark N Bubbles hooked her up with a great grooming and deshedding treatment and now she is next level drop dead gorgeous! I'm not an expert with pricing on dog grooming but from my limited knowledge the prices seem to be similar to most of the local groomers in Chicago. The Owner called me at 12:39 pm (note my scheduled appointment was 10:00 am - 12:00 pm), notifying me that Cocoa was ready in 30 mins. I arrived at 1:04 pm for pick-up; the Owner added a $25 late fee to a $100 basic grooming bill. I was sure it was a mistake because I arrived before time for drop-off and pick-up. The Owner: According to our terms and conditions, if you are 30 mins late, we will charge you a late fee. My thoughts...WAIT: Bark N Bubbles; is always late; remember the appointment schedule is 10:00 am - 12:00 pm; the Owner called me at 12:39 pm to state she will be an additional 30 mins late, you see Owner you can't be 1hr 9 mins late and charge the customer a $25 fee when the customer arrived before time for drop-off and on time for pick-up. Ok, cool, your policy is your policy, but I was NOT late or notified of your policy, and if you, the Owner, called me, then state your NEW policy or policy. Don't try to slide and lie about a $25 fee. The Owner said she would reduce my next bill by $25; WELL, NOPE IT WILL NOT BE A NEXT TIME. This is our third visit, and each time Bark N Bubbles is 1hour or more late for pick-up. And my referrals have experienced the same LATE PICK-UP ISSUES. Dogs are left unattended on elevated grooming tables. Dogs roam free - no crates. They do not require or ask for vaccine records. If you are not Zoned for this type of business, try another business or get zoned. Soon a dog will get sick, bitten, or worse in your care. COCOA'S GROOMER WAS GOOD... I WILL PATRONIZE HIM. I suggest utilizing a land line as a business owner and forward to your cell when needed. You should have a live person manning the phones during business hours. If I could give this business zero stars I would. The owner is rude and shady. Don't waste your money or time. She nickels and dimes her customers for everything. My bad experience with this company began when the owner send me a text about a $25 rebooking fee if I didn't respond to confirm my appointment. Ridiculous. That should have been a Red flag but I decided to give them a chance anyway. A heads up, if you're "late" with picking up your dog, she will charge you $20 + $1.00 per minute. The owner called to tell me that my dog would be ready by 12:30 and a late fee would be applied if I didn't pick him up by that time. When i asked if she could give me a few minutes over that time, she told me that she wasn't there to "babysit" my dog. Totally unnecessary to say and unprofessional. I've tried to support this place but it seems to be ran by a novice owner. I have/had a puppy package and while the groomer did a great job for his initial appointment, it's the place's practices that's a concern for me. Upon entering the building for my pups 2nd appt. in the package, a young girl was coming out with a little dog behind her. I thought it was her dog and she just didn't use a leash. Nope, it was one of the dogs being grommed that ran out. She didn't even notice until I pointed to it because she was holding the door waving for me to come through. Once all the way in, I saw at least 5 dogs sitting in the barely fenced groomers area (not counting the 2 on the table). There was another large poodle looking dog wandering outside of the fence. It was a chaotic mess. They don't have crates, and do not ask for vaccine records, so the dogs should not be out like they were, it's not safe. I understand she's short staffed, but maybe she (the owner) should've canceled some appointments. I decided not to leave my pup there, I dont care if she got free money from me (he already opened the flimsy gate when he saw me during his 1st appt.) From making the appointment and bringing in my dog to his scheduled appointment to which the groomer informed us that even though we made a full groom they ONLY do shampoo on Saturdays. At his next appointment my husband was asked if a training groomer could assist with the appointment. Upon picking him up the OWNER distracted my husband with overly friendly conversation because the groomer had severely cut his nails TOO SHORT. The following day he called the vet because our dog was whimpering in pain ALL NIGHT. After getting him assistance and care we then noticed his ENTIRE BODY was covered in MATTS my dog is an aussidoodle (hair not fur) and clearly was groomed with the wrong shampoo and conditioner.
