I was nervous about getting my long haired cat, (Caesar) groomed for the first time. He does not always take well to brushing and he had several mats on his sides and legs that needed to be worked out. Michelle came right to my apartment building, which took some travel stress out of the equation. I was able to stay with Michelle and Caesar for most of the grooming process and it went better than expected. She was able to get all the mats out, trimmed him up, and days later he is still as soft as can be. Michelle does an excellent job grooming our 4-year-old Australian Labradoodle, Mochi. When I used to drop him off at a grooming establishment, he would shake, scream, cry and claw at the door to get out immediately upon entering. He also had to deal with long wait times in a crate which stressed him out even more and his cuts were inconsistent. Mochi does not react this way when Michelle's grooming van pulls up.The whole process takes less than an hour and a half and I can continue working while he is being groomed right in front of our house. Michelle is excellent at talking with you about the look you want for your dog and asks good questions if something is unclear. Mochi always comes out looking and smelling great and he gets complimented almost daily on our walks. Michelle is reliable and friendly and truly cares about Mochi. Michelle will not stop harassing me about my bad review of her service. she is being very deceptive with her responses for example, I never asked her to shave my dog. I asked her to trim up my dog's face tail legs and paws. She never touched her legs, and she did a very quick and uneven cut on her face she also fails to relate in her comments that I did send her a picture as she requested and have that in a text that I could post to prove my point I paid a lot of money for next to no service. That's what I'm upset about her definition of a full Grooming with a light trim is still more than the no trim that she did on my dog. She is unwilling to return any of my money. Michelle is a great dog groomer. We found her about a year ago, after adopting our dog Emmy. She's a weird mix of breeds (dachshund, shih tzu, chihuahua, and maltese), and her coat reflects that oddness (kind of all over the place and wiry like a terrier, soft and dense like a maltese, hair textured like a shih tzu), so she's already a kind of difficult groom. On top of that, she has pretty severe separation anxiety and is anxious to be groomed, and won't let me clip her nails at home. Michelle listened to all of my concerns, suggested grooming styles (including a time-consuming hand-stripping technique that works well on her coat), and consistently gives us back a happy, well-groomed pup. Her background in training really shines to put our anxious dog at ease and pairs fantastically with her grooming skills. The $110 price for our dog every ~6 weeks is fair, and comparable with other mobile grooming services - especially now that she's upgraded to a newer and even better vehicle! I texted Michelle because I was referred to her by another groomer who was out of town. Michelle was rude through texts. She told me $100 an hour for my two goldendoodles. I met Michelle through a ladies meetup group & I felt we really hit it off. I was piqued when she spoke of her business which is all about dogs. This obviously intrigued me seeing I have the most adorable dog on the planet who happens to be loved by all & was spoiled rotten. He was a Christmas present from a now ex who I firmly believe got him more for himself than me. I thought I was getting a laptop so to my shock & delight, Brickie came into my life & we immediately fell hopelessly in love with each other. I've gushed about Brickie-it's now time to gush about Michelle. She's fabulous!!!! Ultimate professional, no nonsense, knows what she's doing & loving & compassionate. We'd spoken at our ladies group & from hearing what she had to say & seeing her passion about dogs, I made the decision to do this for Brickie & myself. When we first walked into the store, Brickie knew life was going to change forever. He knew more than I did about the shifts that were going to occur. Had I picked up on that, I would've put some Valor & Peace & Calming on him! His eyes were bulging & his tail was wound tight. Michelle pointed the tail thing out to me. We proceeded to do our work, in class & do our 'homework' on a daily basis. What we both loved about going to school is that Michelle has a very cool agility kind of course happening. The dogs climbed a sort of ladder. Big dogs jump off the platform at the top. Even though Brickie can jump, she wanted Brickie to walk back down. It's pretty high up but Brickie did jump off the first time. She also has an A frame contraption that the dogs climb up & over. First couple of times Brickie was apprehensive but after that climbed just as well as the big boys. Of course, Brickie was the smallest in the class. Michelle also has a room divider which is about 4' high. She's put together something so on one end, a little dog can walk up to walk across the divider & at the other end of the wall she has a much larger ramp for the bigger dogs. Even though he was a little nervous at first, he walked the length of the divider & turned around & continued to do so throughout the classes with ease & grace. You could tell all of this is great fun for all 2 leggeds & 4 leggeds. We'd then go outside & work our sit/stay & down/stays so we could deal with the distractions of the big huge world outside. We'd go to the park & the dogs would walk on benches (Big dogs would hurdle the bench, Brickie would sit or go place on something somewhere). I can't tell you how much fun all of this has been!!! One really cool thing happened during week 5. Michelle's gorgeous, huge white husky, Lenin tripped out & became drama queen. Please know that Lenin is the most docile dog. He's incredibly well behaved & the perfect example of what obedience training looks like. No one knows spooked Lenin but he kinda went ballistic. It was so cool to see Michelle in action. She totally got him under control so he was once again calm & relaxed & in his down stay. Meanwhile, people & dogs just stood & sat there frozen with mouths hanging open. Yes, even all of the dogs had their mouths hanging open. Talk about impressive. I think everyone, 4 & 2 legged's gained even more respect after Lenin's hissy fit. I know we did! To finish the review off, I'm copy/pasting what I wrote on a Life Event I created on facebook. The event was that Brickie & I graduated from Level I Dog Obedience School. 'We had a lot stacked against us. I spoiled him way too much. He totally ruled the roost. I was treat training (aka: bribing) & was tired of that. He's also 4 1/2-considered an older dog when it comes to obedience school. Brickie's also VERY strong willed which is, I guess, indicative of Shih Tzu's. We can now successfully do a sit-stay, he 'places' wonderfully & just at the end of week 5 he began doing a down without a treat!!! YAY!!!!!! Albeit at first, I had to MAKE him do the down, but he's doing it. He's even doing it without the leash. I'm still apprehensive of dropping the leash for a stay outside. THAT scares the crap out of me, but we'll do 'homework' forever. He really likes doing 'homework' so that's a good thing. He now gets treats randomly-just cause. (He gets plenty of treats from daddy! More than I prefer to give as well as from our tenant & my gf who brings him bananas-one of his fav's. Like I said, spoiled!) I don't know if this is from training or because he's older, but he's started to get more cuddly. He's becoming a lap dog! Something I've always wanted. He'll just climb on my lap & just curl up. This just melts my heart. I've always wanted him to be a lap dog! This was one of the best things we've done!' I think I've already said this but I'll reiterate: Michelle's fabulous!!! This training was fabulous! It was fun! I do want us to do Level II & possibly Level III when the time's right. In the meantime, we'll continue to do our 'homework' on a daily basis. Because we live just a block over from K-9 Lovers, we got to know Michelle through (not-so) casual run-ins between our dog and hers (or the dogs with which she may have been charged). Every once in a while, she would gently offer my husband tips on how to handle our (then) unruly pit-mix -- all of which worked like MAGIC. When we had our son, she agreed to come and walk Abby, our dog, while we were in the hospital. I think it was just 4 or 5 times over 48 hrs (my husband was also making trips back to the house). When we called and asked for her help, she arranged a time to come over and meet us, as well as Abby, formally. She spent at least an (unpaid) hour with us, talking, observing Abby, and letting us get comfortable with her! Then she took Abby out around the block to get a feel for her. That was 10 months ago. Since then, she has helped us out MANY times, often on very short notice. Abby LOVES her. She goes into love spasm even when Michelle drives by in her car! This lady speaks dog. She's awesome. Have 3 large dogs that need grooming and it is such a hassle to get them to a groomer and I really do not like any of them in our area. Thought I would try mobile grooming to see if that would work. We needed a cat sitter to make daily visits for our three cats while we went out of town. After reviewing K9 Lovers Website we set up an appointment for Michelle to do a home visit and meet our cats: Smoke, Maya, and Shadow. Since two of our cats don't get along (we've tried just about every socialization method) we needed to be sure that whoever we hired would be mindful of keeping the cats in their separate locations. Michelle did an awesome job. She left us daily notes for when we got home and we visited by telephone several times during our trip. Be cautious if you decide to board or groom your pet with this company. In January, 2013, our dog was boarded with Michelle. While he came back ok, he developed white bumps on his coat. It turned out to be a yeast infection - it was cleared up with medication; however, in the back of my mind it came from either being in contact with other dogs or being in an environment filled with germs. I should have followed my gut and found someone else but for various reasons I didn't. In January, 2014, our dog was again put in Michelle's care. This time he "jumped" off her couch and landed on her hardwood floors. On our first night of vacation, we received a call from Michelle indicating the dog could not get up. When he "jumped" off her couch, she was in the other room. There was panic on each end of the phone - and I knew if he couldn't get up, we would be on our way home. Thankfully, after hours, he got up. Although the first few days of a "vacation" in Mexico were ruined worrying about my pet, we made it through the 10 days. When Michele brought our dog back, he was very, very thin. The same amount of dog food we gave her to feed him was brought back like it was never touched...which it probably wasn't. She mentioned he liked her dog's food, which consisted of raw meat. Michelle was aware that our dog has pancreatitis and was not supposed to eat any food but hit own. To get to the point, our dog was very, very sick....he stool was full of blood and so was his vomit. He was dehydrated. It seems he picked up a bacterial parasite under Michelle's watch. The medical bills were over $2,000.00; our carpets had to be cleaned and sanitized. She denies any liability.....the fact of the matter is that I gave Michelle a healthy, happy dog to care for - she brought me back a very, very sick dog and showed no remorse at all. In fact, her bill included an extra charge for massage therapy. One of the biggest mistakes I made was paying her for boarding - I did not pay for the massage therapy which never would have been necessary if she was "watching" my pet. All this post is meant to do is warn others to be very, very cautious if you are boarding your animal with K9 Lovers. There is a good ending to this story....all that matters is that after 6 weeks our dog finally did get well. We came very close to losing him. On a side note regarding grooming....there was a time she brought him back with a limp. Of course, this wasn't her fault either - it was ours for not giving the dog enough exercise. Again, if boarding, check out her facility and ask how many dogs she will be watching at the same time. Don't "live and learn" like I did. read more
