Gold Beach Veterinary Clinic - My German Shepherd - Baby

Gold Beach Veterinary Clinic

Just had our third visit and I continue to learn new things about my dog from this veterinarian…read more My German Shepherd has the beginnings of kidney disease and Dr Barke explained everything in detail. She explained all my options for dealing with it. This vet will tell you what you need to know even if it's unpleasant information. She honestly cares about every dog. The whole staff are real advocates for your dog. I highly recommend this veterinarian. There is a real vet shortage in our area now. But even though Dr Barke is usually busy, they will take their time and give you a quality visit.

I wish the same had been true at Gold Beach Veterinary Clinic. Two weeks ago we took him in for care. The staff was initially polite and ran numerous tests, gave fluids, cleaned his ears, administered an enema, Vitamin B, and an IV. The bill came to about $1,000. They told us he was in stage three kidney failure and made it sound like he would be fine. They mentioned hyperthyroidism but we had to ask about chronic kidney disease -- they didn't volunteer it. The doctor was unavailable for results. They called us two times asking for more information. Each time we provided details and they said they'd call back -- but they never did. They ghosted us completely. Instead of being upfront that his condition was advanced and the compassionate choice was comfort care, they prioritized procedures and billing over honesty. Two weeks later at Town & Country, the vet immediately confirmed stage four -- he was very sick, suffering, and couldn't walk. We had no choice but to let him go peacefully surrounded by love. Veterinary care is expensive, but pet owners deserve full transparency about terminal illnesses, not sugar-coating and poor follow-up. I feel we were taken advantage of during an emotional time. My cat deteriorated rapidly after the visit. If you want honest communication about serious pet health issues, look elsewhere. Town & Country did right by us at the end. Gold Beach Veterinary Clinic needs to do better.

I took both my girls today and the tech, vet and front end staff were kind, professional, and great with the girls. Dr. J was a pleasant surprise today. Yes, it costs slightly more, but I have access to emergency treatment if needed.

When my horse, whom they have treated and seen several times, colicked at 5:40 on a Saturday I called them. The Brookings office is open on Saturday and closes at 5:30. Their answering service did NOT contact any one, even though they were actually still at their office. I was told to take my 30 year old horse, colicking, put him in a trailer and drive him 3 hours to Central Point. He wouldn't have survived a half an hour in a trailer. Fortunately I was able to find a compassionate, caring vet to come out and humanely euthanize him. Because we had to FIND another vet to help it meant my horse suffered for 2-1/2 hours! After he passed, it took multiple calls to get the manager to call me back. Her explanation was that the answering service messed up. That was three weeks ago. To date I've not even received a sympathy card for the loss of my horse, THEIR patient! Not one vet has responded or contacted me to even say they were sorry. I won't take a stuffed animal back to these uncaring people.

I have been taking my dog and cat here since 2006 and they have received excellent care!…read moreI've had emergency appointments after hours for my dog a couple of times. I like that they are available 24 hours a day for emergencies. My dog has had 2 surgeries to remove cysts and had his teeth cleaned also. My cat had to have a few teeth removed and was in surgery for that as well. The Vet and Vet Tech kept in touch with me during these times and let me know how they were doing. I'm one of those obsessed owners with my pets and they were very knowledgeable and comforting. There are several Vets here. They get the most top notch Vets and yes some of them move after a few years. They relocate to open their own practices or raise their families. Right now our go to Vet is Dr. Jessie. She is the most compassionate Vet I've ever met and I've had animals my entire life. Dr. John is the owner and is fabulous too. I wouldn't hesitate to see any of the Vets on staff. They also have all the pet supplies you need. I buy Science Diet food there for both my dog and cat. I've gotten treats and dental chews, collars and toys. I have found the front of the house staff to be wonderful also. Highly recommend!!

That is no longer happening. They are only open 6 days a week with no emergency service. They are clearly aware that they are one of two vets available for all of Brookings and have jacked their prices up to the point of usury. $165 for a same day visit (after checking, it turns out that isn't out of line, if you can believe that!) That or book 9 mos out. I brought my pup in for high fever with the most likely diagnosis being a tick-borne illness with antibiotic treatment. They still managed to find a way of doing blood work (maybe arguable) and xrays (for what?), and my visit ended up being $950. The illness cleared up with the antibiotic. Expensive antibiotic. Most recently, a different pet needed assistance; they prescribed antibiotic (not having a clue if it was a bacterium or parasite, or which one), and never called. I called back when it was clear she was not handling the medication... and got an appointment for the next week. I asked for a call just to discuss it, never heard from them. I asked CHAT GPT what I should do given my provided description and history of the illness and the recommendation was borderline "go to the emergency vet" now. Chat actually defended the $165 as midline cost for same day visit, but the fact they they didn't attempt any follow up even though I called in and asked to speak with a vet was described as a "communication failure". The quality of their care has definitely declined. Must be nice having a monopoly. We need another vet practice in Curry Co. They would be booked overnight.

He was sick with an upper respiratory issue from a new Siamese kitten we'd gotten recently. Schumi is a purebred Siamese, gentle and loving, afraid of everyone but family. He was there for a checkup and a shot of antibiotics, they told me to bring him in between 8-9 am and they'd have him for the day. When I picked him up, I was told to never bring him back, I was told he was a vicious animal and it was too dangerous for the Dr. and staff. I don't know what happened to him in the back where they took him, but for him to act out in a threatening way as they accused him of something certainly did. He's "never" been anything but a loving lap cat who loves to eat. Schumi was sick, he hadn't eaten or drunk water for a couple of days, he was in bad shape, lethargic, just sleeping all day, and had lost his voice too. I was shocked, and still am two months later, something bad happened, and apparently, the staff and Dr. are lacking in the basic animal handling skills to safely give a quick look over and a simple shot. I will not be taking my now three Siamese cats back ever again. I would not reccomend Brookings Harbor Veterinary Hospital. Dr. Jeff seemed caring and nice every visit I was there with my cats, what happens behind your back, WATCH OUT!!!! I should have read these reviews before I got my cats started there, I see a pattern now after reading all of his reviews.
