Sunday River Goers Take Note! As new dog dads... what can I say? From my initial phone call to Cathy & staff regarding daycare for our 4mo old golden retriever to our sort of last minute decision to board him for a night, EVERYTHING about BBK was smooth, easy and comfortable! Not to mention our little guy Griffin was absolutely loving life. They clearly are playing and having a blast as his GPS collar was showing lots of activity throughout his stay! We dropped off (early as well) and regardless of my apprehension they were friendly at 755am, greeted Griff and led him immediately out to play! Without shame, he had a bag packed with toys, towels, food, bowls, treats etc and upon pickup everything was there and in great shape! I think the quote was "hes got luggage" :) Leaving after the first 48 hours, Griff whimpered as he didnt want to leave- not knowing he was headed back the next day. The staff was friendly, knew him by the end and made us feel completely comfortable to enjoy our ski trip. WITHOUT hesitation we would recommend Cathy & Staff at Barker Brook and hope we can see them on our next trip to Sunday River! read more

Recently, I had a really great experience with Barker Brook Kennel. Right along the strip going into Sunday River, Barker Brook is located conveniently for skiers and snowboarders, who are also pet owners, to drop off their furry companion for a day of daycare or overnight boarding. I planned on staying at Sunday River for 2 nights, so Barker Brook was perfect for my golden retriever puppy to stay for a night and have daycare the other days. Daycare is only $20 a day and overnight is $60, which I considered to be pretty reasonable given the location of the kennel. Each day, my dog was tired out and did not want to leave! He absolutely loved spending his time at Barker Brook, and the staff were also incredibly friendly. Drop off and pick up were incredibly easy and seamless. My only one critique is that they only start taking pets at 8am in the morning for drop off. 8am is also the time that chair lifts start at Sunday River, so selfishly, I would love if Barker Brook could open at 7/7:30 to make it for the start of chair lifts. Minor critique, but the friendliness of the staff and the physical activity that was provided for my dog are enough to push my rating to a full 5 star review! I highly recommend to others. read more

Pup had a great time at BBK! She was so excited to go back and came home tired each night. Staff is extremely friendly and caring, providing special attention to each dog. The pickup/drop off schedule is super convenient for skiers at Sunday River, and they're super accommodating if plans change last minute. Definitely will be back next time we're in town!!! read more

I decided to put my 10 month old puppy (lab) into doggy day care once a week so she can have consistent play time and social interaction. I heard great things about Barker Brook. My dog had a great first day. The staff was very friendly, and they made drop off and pick up very easy. I got a nice report on how my pup did, and she was super happy when I picked her up. She gave the staff kisses before we left. She passed out the second we got in the car to drive home so I know she was well stimulated through the day. Price was very reasonable too. read more

My pup ( 3 yr old neutered male ) goes to daycare about 5 days a month at Barker Brook Kennel. He cries when we go by there, even if it's midnight! But, I was still concerned to leave him for our 9 day vacation. I emailed Justine and she was very responsive. Overall we chatted 3 times during his stay. She was very well informed of his behavior and assured me he was happy and had no issues. This is the first time he's been away from me, even for just one night. I'm familiar with all the caregivers who work there and they know my guy very well. He was a very wild pup and only recently stopped acting hyperactive and nutty. They put up with him so well, and saw the good through his naughty behavior. Just recently after his 3 rd birthday he's finally calmed down. Justine commented on it and assured me he was happy. I'm so glad we boarded him there. It's over 3 hours from my home, but it was worth the trip for peace of mind as well as being a very affordable service. Thanks to all at Barker Brook. read more

This is no place I'd leave my dog! They have weird hours and no 24 hour staffing. I called to get info as I this would have been the first time leaving my 6 month old pup there. They said they close strictly at 6:00pm and when I arrive at 6:15 I can leave him in the lobby (through a door which they gave my the code over the phone without even knowing me.) and someone will get him at 7:30am the next morning to take out. He's a 6 month old puppy, he needs to go out around 8-9pm not sit in his own shit all night. No thank you! And when I would pick him up the next day he would be in the same "self service pickup room" since it's off the time they're actually there (4 hours total throughout the day you can drop off or pick up). This felt more like a cold transaction dropping off a package than leaving our puppy who we love like our own child at boarding/daycare. read more

Barker Brook Kennels is absolutely first rate. Justine is caring and professional. She is also a great groomer! My dogs love to go there. The facility is very clean and safe and Justine is very responsive to customer needs. I feel very fortunate that there is a place where I can leave my dogs with complete confidence. read more

Every time I come up to the Bethel area to ski at Sunday River I leave my dogs with Justine and staff at Barker Brook Kennels. Not only is it super convenient because it's right on the way to the mountain but the dogs love it and always come home happy and tired. It is easy to tell how much the staff care for the animals and my dogs always look great when I pick them up after grooming. Top notch facility. read more

I took my dog here for the first time while I went skiing. This was his first time over night for 3 days. I've called several times to check on him but the call always went to voice mail. I treat my pets as if they were my child-so I want to know how they are doing. I drive by 5 times the day to pick him up and went to the door-the sign said they were closed. My dog was kenneled all day! They are suppose to let them out to play but all I heard was barking from all the dogs on their kennels. Once I finally picked him up the woman was not friendly and rushed me out the door. Once I got my dog home-I went to pat him on the head but he coward down. This happened several times. I am not sure what took place but I am not HAPPY! I would not recommend taking your animals there. They don't give them the play time they say they do and they close their business and do not answer their calls. If you run a business you need to be available at all times, especially if you are caring for a living being. read more
