Terrible facility, out to get your money. Low professional standard of care. I went in based off of a referral and was told that they have time in the future weeks to perform a dental extraction on two dogs with their pulp and nerve exposed. When I offered to pay the $4400 upfront (after the consult), they told me I had to wait until their surgery day, six weeks out. This was not something that they had discussed with me prior to me scheduling an appointment with them. it seems to me as though this facility is eager to get you into their building, but will not discuss what their schedule is truly like two months out. Dr. Zoe Albee did not want to provide antibiotics for one of the two dogs that has redness, irritation, and swelling in the gum line of the broken tooth. three of my dogs got into a squabble with a nest of porcupines yes, I said a nest. They are covered inside the roof of their mouth and their couldn't take us in today. The urgent care couldn't take us in and I understand three dogs is a lot to take on. Norway got me in immediately and even though it's an hour away my new veterinarian. The staff is so kind, so courteous, and so polite. me updated on how surgeries are going. literally waiting for them in immediately. I've been in competition and obedience for Dog shows different vets, etc. and Norway is by far the best place I have ever taken my dogs. It was like the weight of an elephant came off of my chest. read more

Had to put down a pocket pet. Was pretty upset that they had lit a scented candle in the room, as this can cause my animals to go into respiratory distress, but i can understand why. for some people this would be a nice touch. what i cannot understand is why the vet techs thought it was appropriate to make nasty comments about my animal in the back room while she was being euthanized. "ew gross!" "just kill it!" "im so sick of these euthanasias im going to cancel all of them for the day" "oh ew is that a ___?" was something i heard every few minutes during the half hour they kept her back there. which, by the way, wasn't supposed to happen. i was promised my baby would be brought back out right after the shot so i could be with her as she passed. they returned her to me wrapped in a puppy pad, stiff and cold. I strongly believe they didn't sedate her first and just gave her the injection, and didn't want me to see her writhing in pain. I have not brought any other animals back here and never will again. it's completely turned me off small animal euthanasia. all of my other animals have passed naturally at home since this incident. the ONLY upside to this whole experience is that the cost ended up being $100 less than the receptionist quoted it for. I was told it would be around 250 and it ended up being 140, again, probably because they didn't use sedation and knew they had majorly fucked up. read more

Steer clear!!! When we moved to the Auburn area recently, I couldn't find a vet any closer so we drove the 40 minutes to go here. Had some okay experiences up until we had to put our 13 year old Shepherd down. The vet had administered the initial sedative and my husband and I were in the room saying our goodbyes and crying when an office person comes in with her tablet and credit card machine and MAKES US PAY!!!! I have NEVER had this happen - after putting down 4 dogs in 2 different states at 3 different vets. They always send a bill afterward. What would have happened if I had told them I couldn't pay that day - would they have sent me home with a sedated dog??? If we hadn't been in such a state that day my husband would have totally gone off on them. Then, as we're still trying to get into a new vet's office, our other Shepherd starts having issues with horrible anxiety. The trainer we got him from kept telling us he looked like he was in pain but, after 3 visits to 2 different vets, they couldn't come up with anything and just kept trying different psych meds. We finally got him into Auburn Animal Center and, within 5 minutes, Dr. Lehr said he seems to have a growth in one of his testicles because it's noticeably larger and that this is not uncommon with un-neutered dogs and is usually benign but can cause terrible pain which could be causing the anxiety. What a horrible place. Both Norway and Naples offices are bad. Steer clear. Brought my dog in with bleeding from the ears. Made me wait a full day before they would see the dog. Diagnosed dog with an ear infection and sent dog home. Dog became very ill so i returned to vet. After authorizing whatever the dog needed i noticed the tech seemed pleased each time i authorized a test or procedure. Spent over $2000 in the course of a few days. Nothing seemed to help. After a week of suffering I finally put the dog down. I explained i wanted a simple cremation and didnt need anything fancy. When i returned for the ashes they came in a fancy dovetailed box. Exactly what i wasnt looking for. I was so disgusted at this point that I asked to speak to the owner. I was told he was not available but he would call me. Fast forward over a week and I am awoken to a phonecall from the owner at 5:30AM. He claimed he reviewed the bloodwork from my dog and that the dog was extremely ill. I explained that I had spent thousands at this point and that a third party had informed me that many vets pay commissions of procedures. I asked if that was how his help was paid as i had noticed the excitement when procedures were approved. He refused to give me an answer. Long story short my dog suffered needlessly. I was ripped off and lied to. I would not return here for a million bucks. I hope this group finds themselves in equally incompetent hands when they medical attention. read more

Our dog tore his ACL and needed TPLO surgery. Dr. Gauger came highly recommended from friends and we were incredibly thankful. It's a costly surgery, but the cost includes all follow ups, including 8week X-rays and meds required, no random hidden costs. Dr. Gauger and his entire team were incredibly understanding, got us on the cancellation list and saw us earlier than anticipated. They called to check in, and answered any questions along the way. Two weeks ago we brought our much loved 18 year old cat Tobey to be euthanized at this hospital. Everyone that worked there was very supportive and kind to us and we appreciate it very much. We had our precious Tobey cremated and went there today to get his ashes. The ashes were contained in a very pretty wooden pine box that was inside a blue "velvet" bag, along with a paw print of Tobey which was very thoughtful and meant a lot to us. They also sent a beautuful sympathy card signed with a personal message from the vet doctor. I cannot say enough good things about our experience with them. They were awesome! My name is Luna and I had a destroyed cruciate ligament in my right rear knee. You see, even though I'm 10 I still enjoy chasing and tormenting squirrels and chipmunks. I'm never going to give it up. I'm old and fixed, so chasing small creatures and belly rubs are all I've got left. I'll tell you, my knee hurt so badly that I couldn't get upstairs to sleep in my master's room. Bless his heart, he would carry me up the stairs. Next thing you know, he took me over to Norway where I met Dr. Gauger. I was very afraid at first, but my master put me in his skilled hands. The next day my master came and got me. Dr. Gauger had some medicine for me to keep me sedated and relieve my pain after he surgically repaired my knee. Believe it or not, I was walking the next day. Every day I get better. Two weeks ago I took a little run in the snow. By the time the snow is gone, the few squirrels that the bobcats leave behind better watch out. I took my 100 lb malinois there for a torn ACL or in a dog a cruciate ligament. She had been limping for weeks and I was told it was probably due to anaplasmosis. When she didn't get better and I couldn't get it cleared up and took her to Norway veterinary Hospital where they took x-rays set up her surgery and she was done within a week. Dr Gauger what's thorough told me what the situation was and what the outcome he felt would be. She was in such pain but I said let's do it. On the day of surgery I dropped her off and she had to stay overnight one night. I called them so many times and they were always so nice to put up with me, especially Amanda. I went and picked up the next day it was a long recuperation but she's doing fine and back running normal like a dog should. We got a rescue dog in June of this year. He came with a fractured leg,. Rescue gets X-ray and an Fmo surgery is recommended. Surgery happens at Norway vet, usually a 6 week recovery. A few weeks go by, he doesn't seem to be recovering properly. Ask if he can come into get checked out, vet says send a video. We do, they say he is progressing normally. In the meantime we go to our vet in town to get shots and establish a relationship. They say leg doesn't look right, we should go back to Norway vet to get it checked out again. Call the Norway vet again. vet tech calls back and leaves a message says sometimes these surgeries take a while to recover from. We call back immediately to talk to the vet tech. We get receptionist who reads back note to vet tech left on voicemail. We say please can we see vet again, our vet says leg not right. Told no, our vet is not an orthopedic, and get hung up on. Very rude and unprofessional. We see our hometown vet again, they suggest X-ray and rehab. Xray says leg isn't growing right. We start rehab in Scarborough (wonderful place). The rehab suggest a a comprehensive X-ray and orthopedic visit. We do, leg is not growing properly. Probably never going to. Refusing to offer a follow up visit when something was obviously wrong was terrible care. We have spent over $2000 since that surgery on follow ups for the leg. So disappointed in Norway vet. spent thousands for an emergency surgery here in april 2022 they stapled my dog when closing the wound which was around 50 staples... which did not heal at all recovery did not happen the vet that was supposed to pull the staples literally slammed her on the floor manhandling her then started ripping staples out without even looking at the wound then realized it was not healed at all and the wound was reopening.. after 3 weeks...then they sent us home knowing the staples were not healing for over a week saying it should heal by then. then they had to do a secondary surgery when we did bring her back a week or so later where they literally had to cut the first layer of skin back open again which was great for her NOT "which we got a charge for even though it was completely their fault it was not done right to start with" they opened the wound and stitched it with actual sutures which did heal after but while they did this second surgery something happened to her during surgery something that caused a paralysis to her left face the paralysis is caused by blunt force trauma every other vets say.. so they did something to her for sure 100% caused almost complete paralysis of her left hand side face is not a stroke happens off and on since the day she got brought home. the best part "NOT REALLY" is they say this mostly happens when they get hit by a car severe head trauma. when they called saying she was ready to pick up we got there it took more than an hour for them to bring her out to us with many excuses... when they had just told us she was ready to pick up. after that she wouldnt stop crying for days after eyes were swollen for days as well which should not happen according to every other vet we spoke with because they caused permanent damage to our baby.. they also have amatuers putting in the breathing tubes for surgery she has had a cough and a really bad throat weezing that you can hear while she is breathing ever since surgery never had before being at norway vets because they damaged her throat either putting the breathing tube in or out. just another thing to add to the pile of things that were wrong with her after bringing her here..brought her for 1 issue she had 3 or 4 new issues after going here on top of the 1 issue...she has changed completely since. they do not care about your animals whatsoever just fleecing you with the way gross overpayment of their bill.. they literally caused her more damage than just doing the surgery... these vets can not and should not be trusted. she was saved but they caused irreversible damage to our dog they should be shut down completely......CAN NOT BE TRUSTED WITH YOUR BABY'S AT ALL... VERY SUSPICIOUS GOT HURT IN SOME WAY WHILE WITH NORWAY VETS.. unfurtionatly now that we know we can not trust these people that are getting grossly overpaid to care for our animals this will be our last pet ever. all because of lack of trust not a great feeling. they are not the only vets doing this as well almost a statewide issue here in Maine... Fortunately we had the money to pay the thousands barely... when you possibly dont have that life saving money though they just tell you we can euthanize them even though they in the same sentence just said we could save them but your too poor basically so lets lay them down instead when they could help and the vets office themselves refuse to take any payments just try to put you into worse debt with a care credit card makes me sick!! should be illegal for them "VETS" to do what they do to people no reason they could not except payments themselves for it other that their greed... red headed woman at the front desk has a horrible attitude problem and should be fired as most of them taking the money at this place should be all very uncaring people acting like taking your thousands of dollars is just to much work for them snobby acting for sure...nothing but money hungry greedy scum at this and most animal hospitals.... read more

We came here on an emergency basis because our dog chewed up a mouse bait trap while we were here on a mini-weekend getaway. Everyone here was SO friendly and helpful, including the doctor! We were expecting bloodwork and costly vitamin K injections (which is standard treatment with mouse poison ingestion), but we REALLY appreciated that the Vet was honest with us and didn't make us spend the money on unnecessary treatments. We got there quick enough that they just recommend to induce vomiting first to see if we can just get him to vomit up whatever he may have eaten (if any). After inducing vomiting, the Vet said she felt confident he barely ingested any toxins, if any, and that it hadn't gone through his digestive system yet so we didn't have to worry about internal bleeding. We were so relieved our dog would be okay!! ...and that we avoided crazy medical bills!!! Any veterinarian that doesn't try to push or recommended unnecessary treatments (which we have been in that situation before at other places, which we will gladly pay if our dog needs it FYI) just "to be safe", but really it's not necessary and meanwhile it jacks up the bill, gets 5 stars in our book! We read reviews while we were driving here to try to find a nearby vet, and others commented how this place is very expensive...my husband and I were both "pleasantly" shocked at how low our bills was!!! And we were seen on an emergency basis! If some of the reviewers think this place is expensive, don't ever visit Connecticut! This place was very reasonably priced, although for good,quality care for our fur babies it's worth paying for someone you can trust. We would gladly come here again if we are ever back in the area! We have taken our dog there for surgery twice with good results both times. They were also less expensive than another veterinary office by thousands of dollars. My only complaint is that we asked them to give our dog pain medication before we picked her up because we had a long drive home, and they failed to do so. I think she suffered more pain than she needed to because of this. read more

Dr. Jennifer Keaten is a wonderful and caring vet. She spent a lot of time with my dog and I. She never inflated the bill with needless procedures or test. She presented a care plan before anything was done. Dr. Keaten was more concerned that Bolt needed pain relief and medicated him before doing x'rays. The entire office is amazing and provided a level of service I never have experienced before with a vet or vet staff. A bar that no one vet has provided to me before. I cannot thank Dr. Keaten and her staff for the wonderful care they provided Bolt. The bill was more than fair. At no time did anyone demand payment before seeing Bolt. They cared about Bolt first and never demanded payment up front. They called shortly after bringing him home and called the next day to check on him. This is the best place for dogs. If I could give these pretentious money grubbers no stars, I would. Where do I start. I will start with pumpkin. Pumpkin was a cat that came to us from my mother. He had survived a horrific house fire. He had COPD and issues with his eyes. When his life was at its end and he was suffering and needed relief, my sister brought them to the vet to give that poor boy relief. My family have spent thousands with this vet, THOUSANDS! She had left her purse in the car. They would not give that cat relief until she paid them. This worker at the front desk just kept going on and on about payment. My other sister ran out to the car quickly coming back to write a check to the money grubbers. All the while this front desk worker could not shut her mouth even after the check was written and the cat was being taken to his last moments. My sister, bless her soul, said as she walked by the money grubbers shooting her mouth off, "Someone needs to shut her up". As judge judy said to a litigant once, "If I took my suffering dying pet to a vet and they wanted money before they would treat my pet, I'd find another vet". Which is exactly what you should do.
