Yabby Lake, being one of the closest Mornington vineyards to Melbourne with a great reputation for Chardonnay was therefor on our list and I'm glad we made the effort. It was a quick visit, but a delicious one. We settled on some bottles of the Single Vineyard Chardonnay and I had to be retrained from buying the museum release Magnums they had on display. The Red Claw range, at half the price were also a good buy but we were specifically in the market for special bottles we could put away so skipped them this time. The views here are lovely and I hope to return for cheese platters and wine overlooking the vines on a sunny day. Pro tip: If you're here early in the day or need an afternoon pick-me-up after a lot of wine touring, then grab a coffee. The beans are from Market Lane you know. Ooo, fancy!

The vineyard itself is gorgeous; you can see the vines out the big windows while you dine, and can sit outside on a nice day. However, I ordered the frittata (that comes with a side salad) and was not impressed. The frittata needed a bit more flavor, probably a lot more salt. The salad was fifty percent parsley and dill, which wasn't exactly appetizing. My meal was redeemed by my glass of Pinot Noir and the nice wait staff. It's important to note that I am a vegetarian, so there definitely could be better options for meat eaters on the menu.

Fear not, all that smell results in some delicious wines! Pro tips: - Apparently there are monthly Sunday lunches in the courtyard... and from the size of the woodfire oven I spied out there, I bet they're bloody good. - Ask about the whole bunch pressed Shiraz.

Moorooduc ...wow…read more The cellar door is nice and homely (home-made sour dough bread might be for sale if you're lucky), and the friendly Emma serving us helped make this a delightful stop, but the wines themselves stand on their own as the reason to get down here. We're not usually big white drinkers, often skipping them in a tasting, but we got our socks knocked off us right off the bat with the first tasting; a Pinot Gris that was so sprightly and delicious it would have to be one of the best whites I've ever tasted. The Chardonnays that followed also were top-notch, as were the Pinot Noirs. It's just all so good. The whole-bunch Shiraz might be a little different for some people's palates but well worth trying to see for yourself. To my taste-buds; this is home to some of the Peninsula's best wine, and a place we'll be introducing many others to soon.

Indeed, we took a bottle of the Tributo away with us to have with lunch and I enjoyed it even more interspersed with bread, olives, olive oil and anchovies. The cellar door experience is relaxed and friendly. Try a few styles and then visit the restaurant or sit outside during the day with a cheese plate and a bottle of your favourite. There's also jars of jams, chutney and the like to take home. Pro tip: check out the wine already chilled in the fridge for take-away picnic options. There may even be tins of ortiz anchovies in there. Buy some.
