I came to purchase a Kaplan G.E.D book. after being ignored because I couldn't find the book, I wrote it off as maybe they are just a little stressed. (yes, I am AA) . I get to the register with my two small children, one child who is too small for school. the red head employee says "we're just gonna skip school all together huh" ????? something like that. This Barnes & Noble has always been one of my favorite stops. The selection is excellent, everything is neatly organized, and there's just something special about holding a physical book in your hands before taking it home. I have had a very negative experience with this business. I've gone there several times and there is always two few people to help you find a book. I was also not pleased when I had to practically get physical with a man who was trying to talk to my 16-year-old daughter. I made a complaint to the manager asked them to call the police and nobody came if you're not gonna protect your customers and listen to them and take them seriously I'm not gonna spend my money in establishment like this. Sorry it's just a cold hard truth. And if nobody likes, it can take down the post, but the bottom line is it I should be able to shop with my kids and not be bothered by weirdos at wandering in off the street. read more

I was so happy to have them reopen and understand how to keep their staff and customers safe. They have an employee at the door to limit the numbers of customers so you might have to wait a short time and it clearly said masks are required. Because of the limits on customers, I didn't spend as much time as I normally do. Most of the shelves have been rearranged and moved so social distancing is easier. But the staff is just as helpful but it would be nice to have store map posted around the store. I was able to find a couple of books and another book bag. I also got a cupcake and a pizza pretzel to go. I left after 30 minutes to let others have a chance to come in without a long wait. I did run into another customer who wasn't wearing a mask (If you can't read a simple sign why are you in a book store). She left quickly once I stood up for the staff and the rest of us. If you care so little for other human beings that you won't wear a simple mask, it is so easy for the rest of us to know, you can't hide who you really are any more. See employees can't stand up to bad patrons so it has to be done by the customers to do that. read more

How fantastic a throwback Barnes & Noble! Remember those bookstores from the 90s and early 2000s that had a section for DVDs and CDs? Well this one still has that section. It also seems to be a little spicier than the one we have back home. I'm a big fan of Barnes & Noble wherever they are found all the way down to the wonderful scent of the place But this is a really good one! read more

This is one of the only remaining Barnes & Noble, brick and mortar stores in the entire state and it's a wonderful place. It makes me nostalgic for the days of hanging out at Barnes & Noble. It's a great place to see books in person and it has several sections that are dedicated for nonfiction books, biographies puzzles, children's books. It also features a bunch of license materials and games. They have a whole Harry Potter section which is pretty awesome and they have a lot of nice neat little knickknacks that you might not find at other places, such as the metallic gold ruler that I found that had shapes of different types of insects on it as stencils and it was really cool. My family member that I bought it for loved it and uses it as a bookmark/ruler/stencil. The only thing I do not recommend about this Barnes & Noble is the place that is Starbucks is not Starbucks owned it is independently owned, and unfortunately, three of us ordered coffees from there and specialty drinks and all three of our drinks were nothing like what they were supposed to be. They also do not take Starbucks gift cards and you do not earn Starbucks rewards points. The person at the register at Starbucks was nice. However the main reason I went there was for a caramel macchiato, and since it was snowing that day for the first time of the season, we rushed out to the car and Headed home and by the time we tried our drinks when they had cool down enough, we realize that they were not very good at all. So I suggest getting your coffee from a different Starbucks if you are looking for their specific flavor or trying to drink before you leave, but all three did not taste like they taste at other Starbucks that we were gone to, one bonus point is though that they do have a seating area where you can grab coffee and sit and read your books that you just purchased or bring in your laptop. All in all I would say this is a call location for booklovers students and magazine enthusiasts it's also great for its sheer nostalgic value. read more

Paper books are something of a novelty now a days. There are still people like me who like the weight and feel of a book. The whole primitive turning of the page and YES I do enjoy the smell of a printed book. We're here to hunt down a children's book to gift a dear friend of mine for her baby shower. So we were at the kids spot checking out books. I felt as if associates here are a bit dodgy. None of the "Hello! Welcome to such and such,, can I help you find something in particular today?" It's all good though since, we did know how to navigate around books and such. I just felt as if the person working the section wasn't very helpful. Although I did see her helping another lady, about an hour after we've already been going through the books. Is it us?? Is it because were people of color?? I highly doubt it, but things like that do go through my mind. Oh well right. If we never return, it would just be one less customer they have to help out. I'm just making their jobs easier right? Anyways, we get what we came for. We checked out and we were on our merry way. It's just too bad they're the only decent book store around. Came here before the holidays and getting this place was crazy. Going to the Hills has only 2 ways in a 2 ways out. Parking was crazy with people coming out of everywhere. But I am not gonna rate it on that. Walking into this place brought back memories. I have not walked into a Barnes and Nobles since I use to study there. There is not many out there because it is like a past time. However, there were several people in the store shopping for books and other things. I was going in there to find some sudoku books and the workers were out on the floor helping everyone out. I found someone and they pointed me to the right direction. My experience here was great and going through the line when checking out went by fast and easy. Everyone was nice and I would go back. read more

I just visited the store this past Saturday and I have to say it was one of the nicest stores in Michigan. Everything was so neatly organized and easy to find books that I was looking for. I was highly impressed with the cafe they have there. My mom and I got the raspberry chocolate cheese cake along with a Carmel frap and it was delicious. It was standing room only at first until a gentleman kindly got up and let us have his table. All and all I had such a great experience here, I will be back for sure if I am ever in the area again. read more

There is just something about this B & N... For one it's way too cluttered. Not sure if its because it's a smaller area or just poor organization, but I literally had to look for the registers ( should be somewhere toward the front, huh) and navigate thru a maze/obstacle course to get to them. No, it wasn't very busy at the time that I visited, but it was very late in the day (I'm trying to dig up some excuses, here). Staff was skimpy as well. I went to the customer service desk and the lone woman there told me she was helping someone else at the moment and disappeared. I stood there for a few, hoping someone would rescue me. It didn't happen. I wandered around for a few moments and never did encounter any more staff so I went back to the service desk and after a couple of minutes an employee arrived and assisted me in a very efficient manner. I know that online there is a way to search for books to see if the store carries it, but Perhaps they should invest in some type of customer-friendly kiosk that we can easily access, instead of waiting at the service desk... Forgive me if there are kiosks, but it very well could have been just too junky to find them... My tip: tidy up!!! One plus: they now offer paperless electronic receipts. I'm not a big fan of Barnes and Noble - only because i usually don't read hard cover books and everything is online. I was having troubles with my Nook device so i bought it in so customer service could take a look - she was nice but i hope she would've spoken to the manager before she informed me that i couldn't exchanged the device. I guess she tried her best - basically reboot the device and putting it back to the default setting which unfortunately it didn't fix. I came back a couple days to return all the accessories because I had no choose but to return the item. Before i left i spoken with the manager and he didn't have a problem swapping out the device. (This is the reason one star was knocked off) Other then that - the store was clean and lines moved fast. read more

After my previous experience at Borders, I can finally throw the book in their face and only patronize Barnes and Noble. Barnes and Noble offers: -plenty of seating -a variety of seating options -a spatial store -clean environment -a wider variety of in-stock books -competitive prices When I was at Borders I could not find a seat. They had mini step stools that customers were squatting on to browse through a book, and there were a handful of chairs at their small cafe. It was a cramped store, and had books in useless categories. I went to Barnes and Noble for some instant inspiration! I grabbed about 8 books and sat down with a lemon bundt cake and started taking notes! They had a bigger selection of books and I found it very helpful that I didn't have to lap the store trying to find a book category. Everything was self-explanatory. I walked out with a sugar rush, lots of inspiration, and only paid $7.31 for my bundt cake and healthy smoothie. read more

Staff are so friendly, all books are organized, and when I bring my nieces and nephews they have a little sitting area in the kids section. They often do story times with the kids on weekends. I love going to book stores and lounging around. This one is pretty busy especially on the weekends. The B & N starbucks is pretty popular with a lot of seating and like 4 couches. They are not like your regular starbucks place so they don't take the gift cards and whatnot here. They also have the Cheesecake Factory Cheesecakes. I do miss them banana bread. I love this Barnes and Noble! It's large so there is plenty of room to meet up with friends or hold a book club meeting. The ladies at the cafe are always nice and they might talk me in to the occasional yummy pastry. There are nice comfy chairs to curl up in. The stock is current and there is a nice selection of crafty and artsy books. The only downside is the location. It's in a massive strip mall on a hill and the area is quite busy. read more

I was here very close to Christmas, but didn't find it overwhelmingly busy. I found gifts for several people at reasonable prices - I'm loving the "complete this drawing" or "complete this story" journal-type books. (My brother-in-law did too!) Parking is convenient, the store is spacious, and the employee I asked for help was bubbly, nice, and competent (she also talked me into buying the membership thing, which I'm not sure I'll use enough to justify, but hey). They had a section for books specific to Michigan/Detroit with some offerings I haven't seen before. I ended up buying From Belle Isle to Eight Mile and am enjoying the commentary in it. read more

Always helpful staff, great selection, good discount racks (my favorite!) and the cafe area is not too small. It always smells amazing in there, too, thanks to the cafe. Let me start off by saying that I am not a Barnes & Noble fan because I feel like it takes away from the original idea of enjoying a book by trying to sensational the experience of buying it. Overall , the staff is lukewarm I guess it all depends on who is working and what type of customer they consider you to be. The coffee is always good and for the most part the place is nice and quiet. This location definitely has a certain "preferred" customer in mind which is clearly displayed by the staff's cold mechanical all interactions and the policies and procedures set by the store manager. read more
