The atmosphere of the store is fantastic. I've been going here since I was a child a couple decades ago, and it's always been one of my favorites to even just look around at all the toys and comics. Their selection is good, and prices are reasonable for back issues, and their new comics selection is also fantastic compared to other shops I've ever been to. They've been doing an occasional $1 comic sale at their warehouse location that I've frequented a couple of times, and every time I left very satisfied with what I got and the niceness and goofiness of the "big bearded man". This place is my home away from home. It has been for many years. I used to come here when I was a kid. Then my parents moved away. When I finally got my own place and moved back to the area, it quickly became my go to place. I know many of the guys there and they are very knowledgeable about almost any question I present to them. I occasionally ask them questions or make small talk just to see if they actually remember certain things and they almost always do. Considering how prevalent online shopping is, it is truly remarkable how many things I am actually able to find here. If there is an issue I'm missing or want to pick up I don't even call ahead. I just go and 9 times out of 10 they will have it. If not, it's ok anyway because I love just hanging out there. They have so many very niche things you would never expect. Anyways perfect place. Prices are usually fair. Great for comics, a little high for merchandise, but the guys down there are reasonable. read more

I was delighted to find the funkopop Harley Quinn that I did. There was also a lot of Star Wars and pretty much everything else I had an interest in. I have been hearing good things about Big Ben Comix Oasis for years. I had the week off from work, so I figured I would check it out. I walked into the store today, and the staff ignored me. I started looking at the dollar books at the front of the store. I was looking at the books when a couple of customers walked in. They must have been regulars. The staff had a full-on conversation with them. I started looking around the store looking for the back issues. Not one employee asked if I needed help. They seemed to be more concerned about ordering Jets Pizza for lunch. I was looking through the back issues, and the prices were insane. They wanted $15-20 dollars for Sonic comics. I finally made my way to the front of the store. Two staff members were working the counter. Not one staff member asked if I wanted to see a wall book. I ended up leaving the store when a female employee left. No one even acknowledged me leaving and said goodbye. Customer service could have gone a long way. I will not be returning to Big Bens. read more

I purchased a neca bat gremlin from big bens comix oasis and received a repackaged bat gremlin with a leg that had been superglued back on. I was told to contact neca or they would issue a refund if I sent it back and inspected it to see if its the one they sent me? Either they knowing sent a damaged one or store policy is not ment to protect buyers so im stuck with a broken figure because excuse me for not trusting the seller who had already sent me used item enough to make a correct decision regarding a refund.its a sketchy store policy and this experience has taken all the joy and excitement out of getting a grail figure. My "go to" spot if whenever I had a bad day at work or if I need to get out of the house for an hour to cool off. A big collectible nerd my stress level drops almost immediately when I start looking at what they have new. Have no idea what I am going to buy until it stops me in my tracks. I will always buy something, sometimes its a small for like $12 dollars or maybe something higher. They have items in the $500 dollar plus range if your into that kind of spending. The majority of stuff is well within most budgets which is good if you got kids and want to get introduce to them to the nerd world without having to get a second job. Staff will always talk to you and I noticed are always busy working, cleaning, stocking shelves or doing inventory. A very clean and well organized store, some-days I wish I had more cash flow as I could go nuts buying cool stuff. read more

I was pleasantly surprised at the mass collection of awesome collectibles, toys, lunch boxes and action figures. I love this place!

I will start off by saying this place is really cool. They have a huge stock of books and memorabilia that truly cannot be beat. It's like stepping into your childhood while also being offered cool, recent stuff. And it's not just comics, either. They have everything from Disney to Walking Dead to Magic to, yes, comics. Great variety. The thing I didn't like was the prices. Essentially everything was outrageously priced. In an age where I can Amazon Prime about 80% of what they sell with 2 day shipping for half of what they charge, I was simply not impressed. I guess that's just what you have to do these days to stay in business and make the cost of your overhead. I walked out feeling a solid 3.5 star review was in order... but then when I got home I opened the toy my son picked out. It was an original package from the 90s with a toy inside. Once I started to open it, it was clear that it had been opened previously (so what the heck did I pay all that money for?) And although this isn't the fault of Big Ben's Comix Oasis, the toy was covered in some kind of sticky pink fluid that I can only assume is battery acid because when I started to clean it off, my fingers immediately started to tingle and hurt. The whole thing is going to go in the trash after I paid $15 for it. So, they lost a star. Oh well. I do recommend going there if you are into comics or nerd gear. They have a huge selection, you just have to be a smarter consumer than I was. And yeah, we got some great ideas for our Amazon Wishlist. read more

I've never had a reason to go here, until today. I've never even been to a comic book store before today! Earlier I went to Toys R Us, which is 15 minutes away. That was a wasted trip. We are potty training or son, and he's been doing great! My husband promised him a Flo die-cast Cars, car. Of course, TRU didn't have it, so we were going to buy a couple characters that didn't really matter to him. We were going to settle. At check out, the guy ringing us up asked if we found everything okay. I said, "Not really. All the Cars characters are the ones he already has, or don't really mean anything to him." He then told me about Big Ben's, and how they had a whole bunch when he was there. It's closer to me, in downtown Allen Park, and they had all kinds of characters! My son was SO happy! He ended up picking out a two pack character set with Flo and a purple Ramone (he had the yellow Ramone at home already). Then, at checkout the man asked my son of they were for him, and my son was so happy to tell him they were, for going on the potty. He then took a couple bucks off. We will be returning customers. This is bar-none the one establishment I miss the most since I made my move from AP to Livonia. I have been going to Ben's stores in all their various names and locations for over 15 years. Ben and Gary are still holding down the fort after all these years in the best location yet ("downtown" where the old Hallmark shop used to be, near the theater). You feel welcomed at Ben's and I gladly make the drive down every Wednesday to get my pulls. This is the comic shop that all others in Michigan aspire to be like. The prices are low-to-fair, especially in comparison to other stores in the area (I'm looking at you Wonderworld. You fool no one with those prices). The books have a LOGICAL order (recent back issues against the wall to the left, all new books are on the back left wall, all other back issues are arranged A-Z in the middle of the store). They have a vast collection of comics, busts/statues, graphic novels, toys, movie memorabilia, card games, heroclix, etc etc. It is nerd heaven. In this age of dwindling comic sales it's hard to find a store in Michigan that does EVERYTHING right. Some have the selection, but only because their prices are too high. Some have good prices but no customer service. Ben and Gary just know how to get it done on all levels. It's not even a debate. I've gone to every comic book shop within 2 hours drive of Allen Park (Ohio included) and Ben's is simply the best. read more

Oh Big Ben's, you make me happy. This is by far one of the best comic book stores that downriver has to offer. The store recently relocated back to downtown Allen Park on the main street with alot more space than the previous store. You can find everything to fit you needs here. Tons of trades, golden age comics, figures, memorabilia, etc. There is always great finds in the dollar comic boxes as well. They have a loyalty card system that tracks your spending and gives out rewards when you hit a certain point. The service provided is A+ as well, everyone is very knowledgeable and always willing to help you out. read more

This is by far the greatest comic shop I've ever been in, and I frequent shops all over the nation! They have dozens of bagged and boarded longboxes of dollar comics, dozens more of 3 dollar comics, and another 20 of 3-25 dollar comics. They have isles of action figures, cups, statues, toys, clothing, games, star wars, and on and on. Every toy I had as a kid is there! I'm hoping I will come back again. Visiting Detroit with my son, I had a couple of hours to myself one day during our visit and decided to stop by. My first impression is that this is what comic book stores should look like and I've been to many that has that feel. I knew I would like the place the second I stepped in. Tons of back issues, great selection of toys, very helpful and nice staff. Lots of locals shopping around and having conversations with staff and others. It would definitely be a favorite of mine if I lived in the area. I opted to buy some cheap dollar books as I couldn't buy too much since I flew in from out of town. If I can't get back there soon enough, maybe this review will entice other out of towners to check it out. read more

Without a doubt the best comic shop in the Detroit area. Customer service is top notch, prices are very reasonable to the point where you can even barter if you think the price of what your looking for is too high, selection is HUGE, the store is clean and organized and overall everything you would want from a comic shop. I have never walked out the store feeling like my money wasn't well spent or going to good people. I love how the staffing is knowledgeable and accessible. My absolute favorite shop I have been to in Michigan! I have been going here for years and have become a weekly regular. The staff is nice, funny and are always helpful. Each week they have in new stuff including toys, figures, collectables and all sorts of other items. I have gone there with friends who aren't really into comics and even they have found treasures. It's a fairly large comic store and it is full of great merchandise. Even if you aren't in the area it's worth the drive to take a visit. The only bad thing about this place is that I always end up buying more than I mean to! read more

One of my favorite comic book store's. They have tons of back issues with some of the best prices I have seen. I have comic books store's right around the corner from me. But I will drive 20 mins out of my way just to pick up books that I know are at my local comic store just because this place is so cool. I always see something new when I go there. Selection is great and I get the impression that they would be able to get you anything you want, however the prices are pretty high...even for back issues that are only 2-3 months old the mark up seems to be at least 20%. I am a big acton figure collector. I was floored when I saw the selection at this store. I spent roughly an hour looking at everything and left with a figure that probably couldn't be found at any other comic book store in the state. I am not a comic book person and know little to nothing about collectibles. I've gone to Big Ben's with my son a few times to look at comics and wrestling figures. They seem to have a nice selection for what my son is interested in. The staff is always very helpful and available. I prefer to support a local business with great staff. My son recently purchased a wrestling figure and when we got home we realized it was damaged. They let him exchange it with no problem or hassle. I'll be taking him to get figures at Big Ben's again in the future and would recommend it others. read more
