We visited Book Tree half an hour before it closed on a Saturday, so when we walked in, there was a small group of people sitting around in a small group. The owner warmly greeted us and mentioned that they had a visiting author here, but if we had any questions or needed help, to let him know. A book shop that has author readings and lectures? LOVE THIS ALREADY. Book Tree is located on Market Street, up the hill from downtown Kirkland. There was even designated street parking just for this store. The space isn't the largest, so they're not going to have everything here. But there are so many treasures to be found! They have a first edition of many books that are affordably priced. Most of the books are used here, which I prefer. But if you're looking for a new book, they have a few of that. You mostly come here, scanning through the shelves, bending down and looking through all sections because some of the books will be misplaced and it's a little untidy. But honestly, I love book stores like this because the hunt for a good book makes it al the more appealing! And you never know what you'll find. I was able to find a book that's not as common and easily found at other stores of one my favorite authors. Score! Book Tree is a must visit for any book worm in Kirkland and beyond! My kid wanted to get a set of books and at first I was like, "I bet it's cheaper on Amazon and we can just get it online." I looked it up and it really was half price as the name of the store says. In this case it was more than half price. On Amazon, the same 6-book set was $35.99 but at Half Price Books, it was only $14.99. I get the convenience of ordering books online but at half price I should be getting books from here more often! There was no lines at checkout and service was great. We were in and out in no time.

It's one story of used books and a few new ones too. I ended up taking home some American Girl books missing from my collection and manga (Drama Con) from my childhood. The value is amazing here! They have tons of cool events posted on flyers and chalkboards that are worth checking out. I really liked their selection and it's organized really well. Updating my review since it's been a couple of years. This is a Mormon/LDS bookstore that has much…read moremore than just books. Deseret Book is owned by the LDS Church. Prices are reasonable. They have a book club like Barnes & Noble that you have to pay $25 to join with a yearly renewal. It's worth the cost if you are a frequent buyer but not if you rarely come in. You get 6 free digital downloads and some free items with membership, among discounts and other things they toss in. The temple clothing store is now part of Deseret Book. It's located in the back of the store. All of the clothes for the temple along with kids clothes for baptisms and blessings are sold here. They now let you try things on before you buy. This chain sells a lot of things besides books. They also sell the following as long as it's Christian or spiritually based: office supplies, art (prints, framed oils, sculptures), home decor, crafts, board games, DVDs, CDs, jewelry, sheet music, church classroom materials, scrapbooking supplies, and more. They sell some candies, snacks and beverages. They sell fry sauce for those from Utah who like it and can't figure out how to squeeze mayo and ketchup into a bowl and mix it together. ;) If you come in on a weekday, the staff is few so expect to wait for a bit for service.

Street parking will be your best here and there is a good amount of it around the area. Inside, they have a very spacious setup with books organized nicely by genre. Prices here are very reasonable and their selection is pretty diverse. You could definitely spend a good couple hours here just perusing everything. It can overwhelming but it was really nicely organized, I was looking for a specific book I just finished on my e-reader and wanted to get a trophy, I searched and couldn't find it so came up to a book buyer and they mentioned that didn't have any in stock. Everyone was super friendly and they even had a cute little cafe in the book store but I opted not to get anything, which was a shock for me.
