I didn't realize B & N still had physical locations open! I'm glad they do. I missing hanging out in them. Makes me feel like a high schooler again. This B & N was spacious, clean, and well-organized with a vast selection of books. There were enough employees around that I had no problem finding one when I had a question, and when I didn't need them, they left me alone to browse at my leisure. Walking into this store and smelling new books is one of the greatest smells! I love it here. The staff are all incredibly nice and helpful. I've never had a time that they didn't have the book I wanted or didn't have the ability to get it. I love going in and getting a tea or coffee. The warm drink in my hand as I browse the collections of books. They have a great selection of humor, travel, true crime, romance, cool books, etc. In addition to books, they have an awesome collection of toys and records. Shopping in the toy section is a lot of fun. They have a great kids/young readers section in addition to a teen section. They have kits to learn how to crochet, tie knots, make sushi. As an English teacher, book lover, and future book store owner (goals), my favorite pastime is the bookstore. This may be the nicest Barnes and noble I have ever been in. The set up was beautiful. The small touches--like flowers on all the book tables-- and just the overall of the store. They had a great selection of extra goods (I was thrilled when I saw my favorite puzzles), and their journals, notecards, you know! The staff was kind but other than smiles left me to my wandering. Was in the area shopping and my husband wanted some Starbucks, but hey that's ok because it gave me a reason to stop in to look around. The good: This location was very clean and well kept. I did notice that they had an out of date display with a May poster (it is August when I visited), but perhaps they wanted to keep the display up longer if the books were selling. The kids section is the cutest! They sell characters from some of the popular children's books, such as Winnie the Pooh, Elephant and Piggie, Dog Man, and more! As an avid Amazon shopper, I double checked and all of the prices for the plush animals were the same price here than online. Definitely surprising! I decided to pick up some cute gifts for the convenience. The bad: At the check out line, the employee asked if we were rewards member (I was not). We decided to sign up because she told us all these great things about saving 40% off best sellers, percentage off toys, etc. Unfortunately, the next day when looking at my receipt, I realized that I was charged $25 for this rewards program. I felt that the employee should have let me know that there was a cost associated with signing up. Never once did she say there was a cost to sign up. Very disappointed in their customer service! So shoppers beware if you aren't familiar with Barnes and Noble like me, then be careful that you don't pay for something you don't want. read more

I really love it in there. Although,I'm disappointed that there's never Canvas Art Coloring Canvas' in the crafts department. Plenty of books to color,but no Canvas Art to color. The coffee and food could be cheaper,but everyone is really helpful and kind. They actually direct you to sections,rather than to tell you they don't know where to find something. I appreciate that. The selection of t.v shows and movies could be broader. There's always something good to buy there,especially around holiday time. (Valentine's day,etc. ) They have a nice Travel section,as well as a nice Metaphysical section. I bought some really great Tarot cards from there. It's a very nice place to walk around and it smells really nice. read more

Not as big or diverse as the Flint location. Its a typical B & N. Service is so-so, on some occasions friendly, other times not. It has an okay selection of periodicals, not as eclectic as the Flint or Detroit area B.& N's. Its clean and laid out pretty well with decent service. Average selection of music, not quite as nice as other B & N locations. Their music department is smaller and not as diversified as I would like. I hope that improves for the better. We shall see... The cafe is smaller than average, but it's a Starbucks and it's competently run. I don't know why so many of the reviews seem to slam this location's cafe, with folks saying they didn't know you can't use your Starbucks rewards card or gift cards. Duh people, it's the same as every other B & N in this country. I've been to a lot of B & N's with these Starbucks cafes attached and nobody has ever complained about such trivial issues or acted as if they didn't know that they are operated differently from stand-alone Starbucks. I received a book for my birthday and needed to exchange it for the same book (just a different cover). First, the woman working at the front watched me get in line and wait for her. When I asked if anyone was working up front, she said "yes," and continued to walk around and straighten items before deciding she had enough time to help me. Second, when I didn't have a gift receipt, she repeated "I can't do a return" and "this is why we give gift receipts" in extremely rude tones while refusing to even try to help. I wasn't asking for any monetary value for the book, only wanting to change for the exact same book. I love books and haven't had an issue here in the past, but I won't be back while that woman is employed. I'd rather shop online. At least then I don't have to deal with rude staff. Also, the two stars are for the employees who are nice and the fact it's a book store. read more

One star because it's a real bookstore and there's not an option to give it zero. Their customer service is so bad they will probably not survive the long haul. BUYER BEWARE....their return policy is the WORST around. Not at all in keeping with other brick and mortar retailers in our area. NO returns without a receipt, not even for store credit. And in denying you, they try to push the "benefits" of their membership. Thought I was a member, but the manager couldn't find me in the system when I wanted to CANCEL it because I will no longer give them my business. They're entitled to set their policies in stone, just as I am entitled to choose to take my business elsewhere. Sadly, with real brick and mortar bookstores going out of business left and right, they are really not seeing the big picture. I'm not as disgruntled about the inability to return my plastic sealed obviously unused book, but more the complete and utter disregard for trying to satisfy the customer. I'm sure I can sell the book on ebay, or easily re-gift it. Their attitude just made me feel completely unappreciated and not valued as a customer. They don't care if I (or YOU for that matter, shop there), so I would advise you to choose somewhere else if you care at all about customer service. They have nothing there you can't get elsewhere, and get it with a smile and a thank you for your business. read more

I came here to study because I am a college student that needs to focus on school. I wanted to a find a quiet and relaxing place to study so I came here. The environment was awful, the Starbucks baristas inside the bookstore were extremely loud. I couldn't focus so I had to leave. I was disappointed as this is my favorite study spot. read more

I had to stop here to finish my Christmas shopping for my youngest nephew and had a great experience. We couldn't find "Where The Wild Things Are", and got help in just a few moments. I took one star off because two of their three copies had a rip in the cover. They have a nice selection of games, coloring books, kid's diaries, and craft items so we ended up finding some nice last minute additions to the gift we were going to give. Alright, this review might be a little slighted, however since their coffee station is not technically a Starbucks, it gets lumped into a Barnes and Noble. I came into this location around lunch time just to grab a quick coffee before heading out up north... Around 12:30, it was to much of my dismay (and the other 8) people in line that there was one person behind the counter. One person to take your order, make your drink, and to do everything else you were supposed to do. After the 25 minute wait, finally getting to the counter, we find out that everything they have is Starbucks... Which is great.... However since it is Barnes and noble, you cannot use your starbucks gold card for your purchase. What... The.... Puck.... How is it, everything in the coffee shop is labeled with Starbucks, but.. You can't use your Starbucks card? So why not label it Barnes and Noble coffee then? The reason for the 2 star review is because I'm sure its a great book store... But since the coffeeshop is 'considered' Barnes and Noble... I give it a blah! read more

Ok used to love this place but that changed. Brought some gifts in to be wrapped and was told they only wrap store bought items. Since when? Ok ask the assistant manager nicely about the policy and get major attitude! You would think with Amazon kicking your ass so bad you would try harder to keep the last of your base happy. The store manager was forcing my daughter to wear a mask while in the store. He handed her a mask. She is under age and not required to wear a mask. I explained this to him and he said "that's now how I understand it". I asked for another manager to speak with and the staff said he's the only one available. I put all of my books down and left the store with my daughter crying because of this unpleasant human. My children at 1 and 5. I will never support this business again. I can order my books from Walmart and pay shipping for cheaper than purchasing at this store. I thought my children would enjoy being surrounded by books and engaged learning. Mind you- no one was sanitizing anything in the store. No one was checking temps before people walked into the store. But yet my small child was the issue... read more

Me and my son were just in there tonight shopping for books for a good hour..... We had a handful of books and 9:00 on the dot I went to check out.... but before I could even gather my books they were up on me about putting the books back.... WHY WOULD YOU PUT THE BOOKS BACK???! Ok went to store today to have gifts wrapped (like every year) which is great because the money helps a charity, I buy something in the store and everybody wins right? Nope. Im told they only can wrap items bought in store. In the meantime the wrappers are sitting with nothing to do and I'm a little pissed. You would think with Amazon kicking your ass so bad and stealing your sales you would try and make your small pool of card carrying customers happy. The Brighton Barnes & Noble is a wonderful book store and cafe.They have an incredibly large selection of books which guarantees they have something for everyone. I can spend hours there! We enjoy desserts at the cafe for many of our family holiday meal gatherings. The staff there are Very kind and helpful. read more

My daughter and I went to the Starbucks today and I was deeply hurt by the level of unprofessionalism I witnessed. First I was greeted by a man with greasy hair and beady eyes - he was arguing with coworkers about how to make drinks and brought politics up to at least two other customers before me. I did not want to be greeted with talks about politics all I wanted was coffee. I left feeling violated and will not bring myself nor my daughter back to this establishment. read more

I suppose on selection and size they are "A-OK", but the staff I encountered are closer to worthy of a "Meh" rating. Maybe all of their energy gets sucked out just getting to work, since you have to navigate double roundabouts to get back there. Once you do, though, there is lots of parking, tons of room to walk around through the store and the Starbucks cafe you can read other people complaining about. My boys are obsessed with Star Wars, and this store had all kinds of SW offerings I hadn't seen before, from toys to postcards to books. Win! If they could improve their customer service, that would be great--I overheard multiple employees complaining about their jobs/coworkers/lives, and none of them stopped their conversations when I walked up. Definitely my go-to bookstore. They have a great variety of all kinds of different book-related things, so whether I'm looking for a gift, browsing music, picking up a book for school, or looking to get lost in someone else's world, I can always find what I need. I could honestly spend hours wandering around this store paging through books (and usually compiling a wishlist a mile long). Their cafe is a great place to sit and read or study, and all the employees I've encountered here (cafe or otherwise) were polite and helpful. DON'T BUY THEIR MEMBERSHIP!! I so regret getting talked into the membership! I was there buying a few things in November...I headed to the check out to make my purchase when the check out lady asked if I was a member. No I was not..then she went in with the HARD sell about how awesome the membership was. It cost $25 a year (Borders was free)...but the "$50" welcome coupons I would receive would make it more than worth it, blah, blah blah...meanwhile there's a huge line behind me and she's still trying to talk me into it...oh and also the free shipping you receive as a member was great too, yeah right! You can spend $25 or more online and you receive free shipping without the membership...well crap I gave in and bought it...only smart thing about that transaction was I paid cash for the membership because otherwise if you use your credit card they will automatically bill you $25 every year....we'll guess what I bought several items for Christmas presents and not ONE of their awesome coupons worked for any my purchases....seriously!!! What a scam! One of the coupons is take $5 off a SINGLE purchase of $50 or more...how many books costs $50+??....so in the end I spent $25 in exchange for promised "awesome" coupons that were completely useless....do yourself a favor & buy your books from Costco...less expensive and without the hassle! read more
